Excellent review Dave. From the time you have spent with the camera you've manage to touch on all the points of where this camera will excel. Your presenter voice is also easy to listen to and I would welcome more video like this.
Huh? My Sigma fp does have Face and Eye-AF. But thinking about this idea, its genious. Its just a modular camera. You can have a tiny compact camera for snapshots, but upgrade it to whatever you want. I've seen so many different handgrip exists for this camera, some are even made out of wood. I like this conecept of an extreme minimal camera that scales to whatever you want it to be.
Sigma joining the L-mount alliance is one of the most interesting plays in the camera world in the recent years. I've always wanted to have a Foveon camera but the idea of being locked in the niche FA mount always kept me away. Now lets hope to see L-mount Foveon!
Awesome, thank you. Good review and very interesting camera indeed. (I'm a walk-around art photographer and rarely need action capabilities.) (It seems the rumors of IR's death were exaggerated? I'm happy for that.)
Two thoughts about the Sigma FP. First is "system". I think the FP fits well in a Leica/Panasonic system. One might buy a Panasonic S1R for stills and carry an FP as a second body. Or a Panasonic S1H makes a great primary video camera, with an FP as an alternate. The second thought is "leaf shutter". The Pentax Q series camera bodies had no mechanical shutter. But that did not stop Pentax from putting leaf shutters in the lenses. Sigma could do that too someday. Actually, now that I think more about it, Sigma could put leaf shutters in lens adapters.
I don’t think they would do it. This camera is clearly a cinema camera and I don’t think they care about building a second line of lenses just to satisfy photographers who wont add to bottom line. Lenses with shutters in lens are harder and more expensive to build.
Enjoyed the concise review, Sigma has always pushed the envelope on camera style. I loved the Father Daughter(?) 'Western' shot, I literally laughed out loud!
You guys need a bit better lighting on your “studio” bits. The price point seems coming down. Hope to buy one and cage mount it for low dollar film making.
Nice review, I recently got one and Panasonic S1h and while the fp's body is smaller to actually use it in the field it requires so much rigging that it's not only bigger but so cumbersome to use, I really hope the upgrade the firmware so you can record 4k 60 fps without attaching an SSD and with no evf an lcd viewfinder attachment is required and the stock on costs $300!! There is so much to like about this camera but the need that new firmware and lower price piece of plastic and they would have really nailed it IMHO. With s1h all I need is a pistol grip and I up and shooting in 5 seconds not having to worry about any cables or attaching and un attaching that viewfinder. Loved your review just wanted to add my input as a pro DP
@@henrikwolff5081 How do you know that he doesn't live in a cave. Maybe he thinks it's a home, just like he thinks the FP is a thing of beauty. I've got one along with many other cameras, some of them actual cinema cameras. It's a very flawed camera that had promise, but as usual the Sigma Camera Division fumbled the ball. They could at least have hired someone that knew what a cinema camera was in the first place.
It's so rare and pleasant to get a mature, low-key production with real information one can use. Thanks!
Great review. I’m absolutely loving the images and video this little gem of a camera produces. Sigma’s color science is fantastic.

Excellent review of the fp!

Absolutely agree! A great camera.
This is certainly a great piece of hardware, even smaller pancake prime would be nice on it.
Voigtlaender 35mm f/2.5 is very small, and comes in M-mount and LTM. Also an update to it recently which is f/2, though probably bigger.
Only one thumb up is not enough for the beautiful review. Thank you!
Great work!!
Great review, I wonder how it performs with Leica M mount lenses
Bobby Tonelli (tech360) and Steve Huff have made videos with these on the fp :)
@@fellowcitizen Thank yu I will check them out
I am sure this camera will be on the short list of MANY indie filmmakers and not only them..It will fly of the shelf's.
Is in-camera charging different than charging while recording? Sometimes i feel like i hear conflicting things about this camera
Great review. This camera is very impressive, especially considering it’s small size, which is a huge plus.
great video have you tested the FP L ?
Very impressive camera and your review videos are great. Thanks a lot.
How does the Jpeg quality of this camera ? for people who doesn't shoot Raw.
About a gimbal - any suggested one especially for that camera ?
Thanks! !

I'm hoping for more compact FF lenses in the future, both prime and zoom. There has been a sad tendency towards enormous lenses in recent years.
@@garydmercer Awesome, thanks.

Is that possible? Would make sense if their flash works Normally
@@Chris-ey7zy It would take a firmware change, but I cannot see a problem. And again, Pentax has already done it.

interesting and heartfelt review. Will you consider comparing it to the S1H ?
Sandy Sandy Awesome how about an improvement to the electron shutter maybe that’ll help with more fast action work

Great tool! Revolutionary product!!!
Great review! thanks
I only wish somebody would make a flip screen for this like the ones made for the BMPCC 4K and 6K.
There's one out there www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/46256-sigma-fp-flip-screen-mod/
Done: ua-cam.com/video/oCaNpCX3c3o/v-deo.html :)
$1800 US /// On Amazon right now.. Thinking about it !!!
Im pulling the trigger as soon as I get my next paycheck!

Thanks for the review! Is it possible to shot 12 bit DNG with the flashlight at 1/30 sync speed?

No anti-dust shaker is a bummer ...
Do you live in a cave?
Quite an impolite remark.
