Hey Mitre 10, I'm a brickie from the Uk... And love what you do for the Nz ! Wish we had a similar service for people who'd like to do some chippy work. I took up a load of our t&g from a loft conversion I'm doing and put together this chest yesterday...!! Thank you for inspiration and keep it coming...!! Dave (from the uk)
Cheers mate. Overall, a nice job. A couple more hints. Always use a screwdriver to mount your brass screws. It is too easy to snap off the heads with a power drill. Second, I noticed you left many nails and screws above the board surfaces. Might want to countersink them.
I absolutely loved building home fireplace mantles, cabinets, u need it, but we had the tables and saws needed, IM SO LOST AT HOME, can I accomplish building this if I don't have a saw to cut angles for the top? I only have a hand skill saw, with no table arrg, it hurts me to watch all these great tutorials, when I know I don't have tools that r needed
Check out Paul sellers on UA-cam he uses only hand tools ... well until recently he started to use a bandsaw and a very funny looking air filter helmet thing
Thanks for the feedback Luke, you can find materials used on this helpful PDF guide here: www.mitre10.co.nz/guides-and-advice/guide/how-to-build-a-treasure-chest 😊
David As he said, the material was old floor boards. He is not building a high end chest and he is not selling plans. Plenty of online sites have plans for sale or for free. Can you not wipe your ass without instructions? What ever measurements you want and the material on hand can give you.
David It is a shop lap 'six' board chest, not a Saturn 5 rocket and this is woodworking not rocket science. Detailed measurements are not required by even the most amateur of woodworkers. No patience for people that ask first before even attempting to engage few brain cells. Intellectual laziness can't even make the effort to word search 'treasure chest' or cut up some scrap to test build. They need everything just handed to them. We need a war to clear out some dead wood.
@David Sharma no us australians call them biscuits, but if they are cookies in that case I suppose we use both those words: biscuits AND cookies 🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I love the way that you show the brass screws it very rustic and old fashion Nice work looking forward to more videos Good luck from Ireland
Great job. I'm from Brasil, and a History teacher, woodwork is my hobby, I'm go make this box for mine tools. Thank you
Very nice. I will be adding leather straps across the top to make it look like a real old treasure chest
Thank you

This looks so neat!

It Changed My Life :)
Renata was the one so adamant I lookup Woody Hyezmar in the internet. It's got quite a few good plans in there I had to admit.
Woody Hyezmar
Great explanation. Skilled tradesman.
I think this is great - well done Mate!
Great build mate
nice project..very simple and easy..
wish you would list the material needed along with measurements needed
I enjoyed the video
I love you 😫😫😫😫😫 I really needed this
Good sir
What is the width of the tongue and groove boards? What is the starting width of the slats for the top? (Before cutting the angle)
thats cool
Diy is life
How did you come up with 24 degrees for the top
super amazing working
can you DIY a coffin
tks thank you for inspiration
Great video. How about sharing the plans
Buenas tardes, a cuantos grados van las duelas de la tapa y q ancho tienen ?
Saludos de mexiko
Just an FYI in case you don't know. Pecker means something completely different in the US
superman4ever0311 I think he said packer, as in packing out the hinge.
*****
oooo001
Hope superman4ever0311 doesn't watch the video where he builds a raised "dick" in the garden! ;-)
Jesse Milligan people hear what they want to hear . Pecker on the brain hahaha .
"Some old floorboards" which look brand new haha
its the same process
how do you work out the right angle to tilt the slat?
you should have put a 3rd rib in the middle of the lid to make it stronger
Awesome chest! How did you decide or calculate the 24 degree angle by which to cut the slats for the lid?
The radius How many degrees in how many slates. Then the complementary angle. Grade 7 math.
@@MrBonners Helpful and condescending all at once!
You can find nice instructions on Wood Prix's plans if you like to build it
Where?
Thanks Randy. I love that
Did that pan head screw split the baseboard skirting?

Got a spare room ? Put a long bench in it first up ....then the rest will fall into place ...just buy the tools for one project at a time .
how about a shelf unit? with rounded shelves? for a corner unit?
Hi TJ,

The screws were countersunk screws, not pan head.
They're not "Panhead" screws. They're countersink screws.
Can you please list all the materials needed, as well as the measurements?

+Mitre 10 New Zealand great video
use screws for the sides (walls) and the lid, there alot better than NAILS, I cant believe I'm saying this to a pro
How do you pre-drill a hole?
r w With a hole predriller.
perfect for my daughters toys
hi. do you have plans for this chest?
!?
I mean finished measured drawings with measurements done using AutoCad or Sketchup.and available for download and printout.
I don't under what you're talking about. Here in the western world we pay money for well drawn up woodworking plans.

Easy as!
Can you make me one
3:00 ... Why that split makes me happy.... I do not know.
that box looks like shit
Did he say Pecker??? In the States that word means something else. We call these little boards cleats.
lovely box and then spoils it with panel pins
Then use something else. It's allowed you know.
doesn't know a panhead screw from a countersunk screw though!
Thief can easily remove the hinges and steal all the content , ha ha it's a fairytale treasure box...
i think i might make an actual wooden chest and then fill it with cheap jewelry and fake gems.
Lol thats cheating with the tongue and groove :p
build me one lol

@David Sharma no us australians call them biscuits, but if they are cookies in that case I suppose we use both those words: biscuits AND cookies 🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
