Just a quick note Alex, back way before you were born in the year 1985 I was a young kid who wanted to do what my cousin did. I spent a month with him on the road and I was hooked! I was 19, I worked my ass off for the money to go to trucking school in November I had a cdl permit, I drove manuals, I had the dream. I got my CDL at age 20 and for the next 15 months I was up and down the east coast. A friend of mine said Boston and Maine railroad was looking for engineers the pay was better, after a year of being brake man/conductor I got my big break. I was a locomotive engineer for 25 years, then before Guilford sold out to CSX 6 months prior I retired, but I still had a CDL! I moved to North Carolina to enjoy retirement. I got bored 6 years ago and did OTR again, a year later my friend Dave had just got his CDL, he wanted his own trucking company. I put in 1/3 of the money he needed to start it up. That's how I became part owner over the next year I taught him, today I'm 1/2 owner having trained him, his son and nephew I'm retiring when I turn 58 in November 2023, 38 years with a CDL has taken it's toll on my body. I will keep the CDL, and train my new guys myself, but like you Alex I still have dreams. In two weeks we get our 2024 Kenworths. The guys keep telling me I can't retire so early? We're like family though after all I was their teacher.
@@SinCitySinner I retired 3 times. Then I got called back yet again. So I asked my wife if I should take the job. She said that she preferred that I didn't. So I said, Okay, honey, but you're gonna have to support me! Now a widower, I really, really miss my wife. My point; if you can retire sooner rather than later, do it because you never know what tomorrow will bring.
During freezing temperatures and taking your 10 hour break, 2 things you can do before you park; drag the brakes a couple of hundred feet before parking or never set your trailer brakes.
There's a Schneider yard right around the corner from that truck stop. It's not gated so if you really wanted to you could get away parking there for a night. But there's no facilities so you'd have to walk to to the truck stop for bathroom or shower
Oh a little tip before you are all the way in a spot there dolly down till your a cpl turns away back up and then you only have one or two turns of the crank.
You gotta get out and smack those drums with a hammer or mallet man.. dragging like that will eventually create uneven wear on the tire, or damage the drum or the brake lining
The results of a physical last week are in my doctor was worried about my stress levels my bp is just a hair high. I explained I 1/2 own a trucking company, had to find financing for new trucks, getting more runs I dispatch and make sure every truck gets serviced regularly. I do runs myself and even team with the rookie. I want him to learn the N.C. to Mass run it's a big one for a 20-year-old rookie. My nephew is in CDL school right now to join my company. What stress? Alex if you could do 2 trips a week solo to Yankee Candle, I'd hire you but it only pays $2500 a week though after taxes and you get a 2024 Next Gen Kenworth T680.
Hey man are you hiring I’m a driving for a company that I won’t name, don’t have much experience that’s why I’m here, I’m a good driver but want to be in a better place, they treating me good, getting miles but the pay is just not there
32:22 "Get out of my truck!".."I want my space...." Said as if Alex was kidding, but you don't have to squint hard to see that this is not a sad parting of ways.
Got to be the worst trucking video I've ever seen. If you have trouble backing a single trailer and navigation decisions you wouldn't survive in Australia backing B Doubles let alone a road train.
Hell no 😭 even alex friend said he’s boring especially since he wasn’t driving. Alex should of allowed him to drive as well so tha both can have a good time their both truckers🤷♂️
Really? My guys and I have tighter schedules than Alex does, because we're locally based. Hey Alex, you wanna go nuts? Try the double 26 footers I had to do it twice last week and it sucks ass!
@@jasonruiz5644 that would get him fired since that’s not a team truck and I don’t know if his friend even works for the same company. 😂 I’m surprised they were cool with having a passenger most company’s don’t allow that unless you pay for the extra insurance. But since his buddy has a cdl I’m sure that helps a lot.
Yeah ge is a pain. When I was going you would check in have to turn around and go to dirt lot to drop. Yeah and those spots on rt are tight. Thats the usual way you have to turn around.
Check your airbags when it’s cold the airlines freeze, it’s a good thing to carry some rubbing alcohol you can add to the airline connection and the alcohol unfreezes the ice
Having a ride along friend is fun and all for a day and thats it. Any longer turns into a trainer ride along and becomes a head butting pain in the a** !! I had 4 weeks with a trainer and we just made it with no issues but we both had respect for each other.
You move to GP to make big bucks, take a 20 , talk to the yard dog. And he will be happy to get your trailer into a spot , why risking your mental health and patience. .

Stay safe Alex your videos motivated me to become a trucker I’m starting my CDL class this month
do not drive a truck by mile try to do hourly if possible
You are so happy when your friend is with you! Lots of happiness and singing! ❤️
Alex, November 2023 I'm finally going to retire. I might train a new guy here and there, but it's time to start enjoying life.
Good for you man, I hope you had a good career

Your a good guy and a funny friend Alex, thanks for sharing it was a fun week ✌
Close or after freezing never set your trailer brakes. Always keep a Map gas torch unthaw them. It's got more BTU's.
25:12 next time Alex, pick up the legs just enough to move forward to give you enough space to fully retract the legs.
22 degrees is a heat wave we’ve spent weeks here this winter at -40 lol.

As long as that homeless guy kept you company, that was the fun part of his visit. At least he didn't become a squatter. LOL Safe travels!
@GreenBay Packers You must be from Wisconsin. Me too. Hope the Pack is Back next year!
@GreenBay Packers I agree. They gotta get better next year!
Hahah I did not become a squatter haha.. however I wondered if some people thought I was homeless becuse of my long hair haha
I still love it when you holler at “ Norman”your so funny.
U get too scared while driving and too stressed when u arrive at a dock which is very tight… as a driver u can never get stressed

Fun everyone want to be a “ team player “ when it benefits them. But when you deliver late for the company it no big deal!
Hi bud once again a new great video
IL to MI, should be easy! Hope your trainee learned about cooking good food, and not relying on truck stop food!

Alex, as long as you are facing the correct direction in the one-way road, THAT is all that matters. Lmao 🤣 🤣
Never rode in a semi, but always wished I could be a passenger and experience a day in the life of a driver. Alex would be fun to take that ride with!

When you back into a dock like 114. Why don’t you drive into the docks then go into a 45? Makes like muchhhh easier in my opinion.

Aww, even if it was very boring to you guys. It was an amazing series!
i work for a transport company in the netherlands called GP-TRANS i work for about 4 year for them
In the end of the video That homeless guy was really funny😂😂😂
I have heard that GP uses brokers for some loads, and drivers at times get calls from them about loads. Is this correct? 🤔
