I don’t think people are giving Google enough credit for how much they’ve improved video recording on android. That was my biggest take away; aside from the comparison being closer than people probably thought it would be. iPhone still has the edge in this case of course (at double the price it should be expected).
About to say the same thing. I felt iphone video was marginally better particularly when transitioning from 1x to higher. 7a at half the price giving iphone 14 pro a run for its money.
While the majority of the videos out there on the 7a review brought me a feeling of regret regarding my purchase, even though I loved that phone a lot, this one video really gave me back that good feeling I had earlier when I bought this device. Thanks a lot!
The only thing people say is the Google pixel 7 goes on sale for around the same price, but compare it to other mid range phones for the same price the 7a is a really good phone
Sorry i don't mean to be rude but what kind of video did you see? Literally every smartphone camera test praises Google phones, especially the "A-series" because they're cheap, and the camera and the price are now the only aspects to buy phones for (the rest is now good in any model)
@@Tam-62869 I'm talking about the battery life, the heating issues and brightness of the screen etc. While battery life and heating issue now seems got better after few updates the screen brightness is not good enough as I travel a lot and click photos mostly in outdoors.
@@Tam-62869 price and camera are not the only things to consider. Sound quality - whether stereo, speaker phone, or call sounds; durability of screen and frame, emergency alert options, compatibility, memory, speed, battery life etc. Such things are not quite universal with all smart phones just yet. Though price and camera quality are certainly at the top of my personal list, I have to take the other things into consideration too.
I have a Pixel 6a. When I went on a holiday last month, I mainly used the main camera, even for vlogs. Seeing the improvement of the selfie video on the 7a, I now want to get one.
I much prefer Pixel photos. But iPhone videos are just so good. 2x Zoom isn't that great on the Pixel 7a especially when directly compared next to the iPhone 14 Pro.
lol the Pixel 7a doesn't just take good photos "for a $500 phone", it takes good photos, period, at any price point. It honestly took better photos than the 14 PRO in a majority of the comparisons in this video. Apple's dynamic range is still wonky. The 7a almost always had a better balanced exposure in almost every shot. One thing I noticed was that the iphone way overprocessed the brick road in the cityscape shots like at 10:12. I think the 14 pro got crushed by the 7a in this comparison for photos. I also don't think that the 7a is all that far behind in the video department either.
The Apple seems to push for much more aggressive contrast, sharpening and colour saturation, which is what most of the people want. For photographers, the Pixel images will seem more life like, in other words accurate. That being said, both phones do a good job and the IQ settings can be adjusted to your likings on both devices.
It's truly impressive what Google managed to pull off on the pixel 7a mainly by software tweaks. Daytime selfie video seemed to be more stable and less "stuttery" on the pixel, in general the iPhone is better in the video department, moreso at night. But the pixel is very close, especially considering it's half the price! And then in the picture department... Actually it looks like like many of the pictures came out better on the pixel (excluding the telephoto of course, digital zoom rarely will beat optical zoom). I'm not an iPhone /Apple Fan, but not a Google fanboy either I have to say, sometimes I thought about buying an iPhone just for the video quality. I did often buy expensive phones , but I'm not willing anymore to pay more than 800 euros for a phone in general. And I got to say, for the 500 euros the pixel 7a is actually crazy good and I'm now even more convinced that I'll buy this, instead of a Samsung s23 ultra, a honor magic 5 pro, or a Xiaomi 13 pro. The only phone that seems like a great deal in every way is the one plus 11, so I'm still a little bit in doubt, hesitating between those two.
I'm a #teampixel, but from this comparison video I think the iPhone is generally better in most scenarios. However, for half of the price (of the iPhone) the Pixel is absolutely the best in value.
Pixel is much better with daylight pics and tends to value green blue and cold colors as opposite iPhone better with low light video and with warm red orange yellow colors. That said here in Italy Pixel 7a costs 2,5 times less and is a big value for money.
Biggest difference seems to be in colour science and facial AI. Google has more neutral colours where the iPhone slightly oversaturates it. Low light iphone seems better. White balance seems that iphone is more reliable . That was the photography part. Video is a bit chicken and egg to me. I feel that the iPhone has better stabilization when walking. That stood out (back camera)
I honestly think pixel has caught up to the iphone in terms of video quality. It's a matter of time when pixel masters computational video graphics as well 🔥. For the price the quality is ridiculous
Google used to be the computational photo champ. I realize the price difference but this just isn’t the case anymore. Google has improved so much on their video though, it seems usable now.
WTF? When it comes to photos neither is better than the other. They are just different, and very slightly. Which ultimately comes down to personal preference rather than any objective criteria.
Agreed 👍 I own a few dedicated cameras, they all have their different styles and colour profiles/ science, translate white balance slightly differently. The same goes for camera phones . I liked the photos from both phone devices!
Indeed, the Pixel 7a is not bad in photo-video, but for me, a smartphone is not just about that. I prefer to buy an S21 Plus/Ultra or even an iPhone 12 despite the fact that I am very far from being an Apple fan.
They both took good photos and videos 👍 personally id be pleased if i had either device. My only personal niggle with pixels ( ftom personal experience) is they sometimes overdo the DR/HDR a tad or overexpose in medium lighting conditions. Google needs to tone down HDR a wee bit !
Iphone was better, but Pixel came surprisingly close. Some items the pixel had more realistic colors, while color on other subject matters got washed out. Iphone stayed the most consistent but I'm wondering if pixel would fit my needs at a better price. Still trying to see if you have videos that would give me a better idea of astrophotography and stage/auditorium recording. Also, video image quality is certainly important, but I'd also be interested in sound quality comparison of the same videos and devices.

I look at the Pixel 7a mainly being bought by non-iPhone users, probably 95% of sales will be coming from Android, so a pointless comparison for me. But in the UK the S23U is £1400 for the 12GB model so the £450 Pixel 7a destroys the S23U in value and probably as good on cameras than the S23U primary and ultra-wide, so Android users should save a lot of money and get a Pixel 7a over the overpriced S23U?
