- When a deal came up on Craigslist for a brand-new direct -replacement fridge for my Class B RV. I had to pull the trigger. The old one had been less than dependable. I dreaded the job but it was among the easiest fixes I've done.
Dometic RM 2354. Find it here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
I like how you thoroughly explain everything. Glad to see you again.
Yesssss! Steve is back........good to see you again, love your videos. This was a good one just in time for the summer. Can't wait for the next adventure of Xplorer Steve.
It's great to see you making a new video again. that was a very informative installation, thank you.
I have heard and seen that on the larger one's it can be extremely difficult for a single person to handle all alone.
looking forward to seeing more videos soon.
have a nice day.😀
Nice to see you again Xplorer Steve. Excellent "how to" video and good catch on that purchase!
Glad to see your video Steve. And will be curious to hear about the new direction. Take care.
Another good vid that I can use for my X. Just finishing replacing the window glazing tape and rubber glazing thanks to your old video covering that. May have to use this vid once I test my fridge. Looking forward to your channel announcement. Thanks Steve.
YAY...you are back!! Good seeing you! You made it look simple...thanks for sharing.
You always make your repairs and upgrades look so easy, although I'm sure there's a little more sweat and blisters. Love the vids that show the important things without being overly tedious. Thanks Steve !! Greetings to Cosmo, as well.

Thanks for doing this video, my Van has the Rm2333 as well and it has the problem of getting too cold so this video will be vey helpful if it can't be repaired. Well done Steve!

This was a score, for sure.
Hey Steve. Glad to see you. This was a great video, very informative. Looking forward to your next video. Take care.
Glad to see you're back and well Steve. I've watched all of your videos regarding the Xplorer, and have learned so much. Unfortunately for me, I don't have a workshop like you do, but will attempt to do it some other way. I hope that you don't have to replace your air conditioner, but when you do, that you'll do a video on it. All the best, and Happy Holidays.
Welcome back Steve. It's really long time no hear and see . Hope to see more videos from you!!! 👍
Glad that you are 100% operational.
It looks like Xplorer and Dometic both did a good job of making the products "Plug & Play".
Welcome back! You and your videos have been missed. 💫🇺🇸👍
It sure was nice to hear from you.... Keep coming back... It works if you work it... LOL
Nice to see you back
Great video Steve. Good to have you back on the tube. Congrats on your fridge score. Deals like that don't happen everyday.
Deals like this don't happen every day, you're right. I'm glad it happened though.

It's "movie magic." But seriously. I was VERY surprised at how easy this one was.
Nice to see you, Steve. Until the next video, drive safe!
Thanks! Your videos, as well as your perspective on how to do stuff, are appreciated.
Thanks for the feedback Rich.
Good information for me changing my refrigerator thanks Dave from Michigan

It was a lucky find to be sure. Like magic. Thanks for the feedback on the retirement video.
Steve, the Square Drive as you call it is actually called Robertson. Named after the Canadian who designed or invented it. ;-) Glad to see your back.
one thing in this channel for sure never changes (it's about damn time)
Looks great steve.😀 I like your channel because you show us how to do things the right way, even under supervision by Headley!
Headley just nags and trolls me to frustration.
Good to see you back Steve, nice upgrade and first class install! I noticed there were no new tools needed for the installation. ..gosh...I hate it when that happens. 😃
Ha. I know, right?
Great to see that your back and doing well ! Outstanding video! Now ya have to take a road trip to insure the refrigerator works!
yessss.
Well Well Well, welcome back sir...you were missed! Another fine video in the books! It doesn't matter to me what direction you take your channel is going to take, you've got a loyal viewer here! Cheers as always Steve 🍻🖖🏻
Thanks for your support all this time.
Thanks for the very timely video.
Good to see you back.
Good how video. You didn't have to make a tool run to Harbor Freight.......damn .....maybe next project. Looking forward to where you will take us next.
Harbor Freight video...tonight. After the game.
Welcome back Steve!
Aloha!
a fan from toronto canada, enjoy your vids, more please...
Steve you are a professions love to watch you at work
Thanks Alan. I'm actually Just an average Joe that got hooked on doing things myself because it's so cost-effective.
Cosmo just sits there and supervises while you do all the work! ;)
That is his schtick.
Hi Steve welcome back to YT....my nephew was bummed because your daughter wasn't there to assist. He has a major crush and even asked about going to the RTR next year so he could meet her lol.
I'm gonna need you to post more often this summer. if you could go ahead and do that, that'd be great, mmmkay, thanks. nice to see an update from you, take care. you mentioned your channel will change...on pins and needles here
Hey Bay! When are you going to escape the rat race for a couple weeks. You will have to stop by on your way through and maybe we can caravan a bit. You know, like friends.
great video very informative u made that look easy
thanks...boarding flight from NJ to Las Vegas now...then to bullhead to pu the xplorer..
respect - you're really a very good handyman with skills
I have a very similar refrigerator in my trailer - that plastic cover for the gauges is helpful as you bump the controls and accidentally turn off the refrigerator sometimes.
Just a quick note. You do NOT HAVE TO use plumber's tape on propane nipple fittings. In fact they advise you not to. They are built in such a way that you don't need to use the tape or anything else otherwise you can compromise the seal. Awesome vids. Just thought you might want to know. I do this for a living. Take care.
I work alone quite often... I find my planning stage can last 3 times longer than my actual working stage but that is how I like it lol
that was nice of you to take his inventory off his hands for him. smokin deal steve.
Sometimes I do charity work, yes.
Nice! What are the odds? Strong work! Can't wait to see what you do w/ the channel!
Hey, you will let us know when the Outdoor mag issue is out right?
Great job. I just ordered mine, it will be a like for like install.
Nice job . That's a honey of a van , man.....
My works too. Used Avasva handbooks and build it with no problems.
Hey STRANGER welcome BACK !
Steve great video, I do a lot of work on my rv myself too,
It is good to know all the workings of the RV. I think I have explored them all in the few years I have owned the X.
sounds good ...will b in touch ...send some pics when I pick her up..same configuration as yours...2002 with 33k miles....finishing up getting ready to leave...Ill be in Az tonight...pu tomorrow the 9th.
Steve thanks again for all ur great videos..
BW...Ken
I picked mine up in AZ as well. It was a fun trip and memorable.
I watched a video earlier today of element van life going through vegas and was wondering what happened to you. I guess that was answered quick, and good to see you back.
Btw, that was a big mud dauber nest in there. They aren't an aggressive wasp, but they are annoying. We get them all the time where I am in the Houston area.
Thanks for the info on the Mud Dauber. I will have to look that one up.
Another awesome and informative video Steve. You were missed. How about a video on what you've been up to and any future travel plans? Hope you and the family are well :-)
Upate to follow.
great video per usual :)
still amazed by heat from a flame cooling food. clap clap clap applause
great video
FYI. Mine stopped working on 12 Volt/Gas too. It's only 4 years old. Wasps made a nest on the flame/Igniter rod shorted it out damaging the electronic control box. it was about $90 for a new control box on Amazon. To avoid it happing again I bought and installed the Camco fridge vents. Spend a few bucks now and save more bucks later. Best of Luck.
This is the newest model. I like the Auto feature. It switches between the three phases all by itself. It also has a place on the circuit board to connect a fan (made by Dometic) Since I live in the desert, I will order it here shortly.
It looks nice in you RV. Mine switches automatically too. Just wanted to save you the headache of having to replace the control board. Those vent sceens are a lot cheaper. Best of Luck.
great informative video thank you.
Now I want one.
Steve, Great to see you. Thanks for another how to. Nice thorough job as usual. Any trips planned for this summer?
Video on that topic to follow soon.
the new one looks brand new :)
Great job mate.
Hey TF 21 thanks for your support and for subscribing all this time.
No worries mate.Glad to see you back :)
Hey Steve. Have enjoyed your videos, as well as those from Justin Credible with his old XPlorer, for yrs now. I'm 3rd owner of a 2001 Wide Body dually XPlorer, for 5 yrs or so. Same exact color and config as yours, so know a bit about them. Our original Dometic refrig worked great for us until this season; freezer great, refri zip. Local supplier sold us the last digital Dometic 2354 unit in town, same model number as you bought. Removal and install went fine, but the propane line needs some serious bending to support the new one. My concern is that most shops suggest going with copper propane lines rather tha flex as it appears you chose, due to vibration issues. As the bending of 20 year old 1/4 copper is not easy, I too would like to go flex. Have you had any issues? Many thanks; keep up the great DIY work you so generously share.
I have had no issues. Copper is easy with the flare tool and bender. Suit your conscience.
picked up the xplorer...staying in bullhead for a few days outfitting her for the way home..
It is time for a video? From you.
Great to have you post again, really great. I got a question. Did your old 'frig work on 120 and/or propane but not with 12 vdc? You really didn't go into detail as to what the "specific" problem it had. I hope you do clarify. Best wishes!
Old fridge was 18 years old. It was inconsistent in keeping temps. I made a exhaust fan to help it a few vids back. It was just time for it to go. The new one doesn't have trouble keeping a temp as seen on this 90 degree day.
Steve where did you get the yellow extension hose to connect your LP lines at also what is it called? Keep up the great work
Hi Steve, great video. What size gas line did you use and where can you purchase those?
I really hope this helps you enjoy a cold Bud Light on a warm Nevada morning. Cin cin
Very helpful for a couple of beginners. Thanks!
too cool ! thanks !
I was wondering about the gas hook up. If it was going to be the same as the old fridge. It looks like you installed a new flexible gas hose to make it work.
GR8 video thank u
So glad you are back. I too have a 1999 Xplorer and am replacing my 3-way with a 12volt Engel refrigerator, it's smaller so will have to modify a bit. Have you noticed some sway while driving? I put new shocks and idler arms plus alignment and still notice the sway. Just wondering if this is common among older vehicle. Love your videos...
I had some front end work done when I got it. It drives very nice. Don't get much sway. The wind does push these around a bit due to the 8'9" height. Mine had 27,000 miles when i got it and the alignment shop I took it to said the struts were fine. I will go with Bilsteins in the future.
Thank you
Dumbass like digital of no return...
well done Steve.
16 % humidity................those were the gooooooooooood ole days..............not happening here in Penn.
I can't handle the humidity either. Safe travels Joe.
Take care 👍
:)
Great Job !
Holy cow it is alive great job Steve how did that bathroom come out
Came out great. I will show and tell in my update video.
Steve, did you re install the fans for cooling the mechanics of the fridge?
Good to see you back...maybe I'm thinking of another van guy but weren't you considering a compressor refrigerator? Either way, was there a reason you would prefer the 3 way over a compressor. Since this is a newer model will it be more forgiving of not being level? That's my biggest concern with 3 ways and street boondocking.
I have enough solar for the newer compressor fridges and they are great. Most are top lid models. They are pricey as well. I like the 3 way propane fridge. If maintained properly they last. The do require a fairly level operation. I have not had a problem and prefer to be more or less level regardless. The Xplorer has rear air-ride suspension with a controller in the cab where I can accommodate some side to side and front to back attitude for street parking. That was a unexpected feature of that feature.
LOL, I’m getting ready to pull out the one you installed because it just didn’t keep cold enough. Hope yours worked out.
Ventilation can be key. A fan mod with thermostat can work to evacuate hot air from the vent and keep air circulating for consistent temps. Cheap and easy. I have video on it somewhere here.
Here is a link. ua-cam.com/video/fEQwReqJcMU/v-deo.html
Were you just incredibly lucky or did it take awhile to find that fridge on Craigslist? Great to watch you fix something again.
This one was luck. The planets aligned.
Great video Steve, thanks.
Maybe Santa will bring you a new camera with faster focus!
I'm using the canon G7X. It's supposed to be good. The focus falters a little in low light.
AWESOME!!!!
That fridge is a very nice score from craig's list.
Best score so far this year.
Good to see you back in the saddle. Didn't you at one time install a computer fan to help your fridge cool better? The flare fittings don't really need the Teflon tape because the pipe or tubing end is being squashed between two surfaces where as regular pipe threads are are a tapered compressing thread but it can't hurt.
I just followed the directions that came with the pipe. Yes I did install a fan to help keep it up to temp. although it helped, It was never really consistent. I think after 18 years, it was just time for it to go.
You are right on regarding the flare fittings. The threads are only there to pull the two pieces together. The flare on the end of the tube is like a gasket between the male fitting and the flare nut. The threads don't do any sealing. Nice work though Steve and nice to have you back!
nice. do you have solar to run the fridge on 12v dc? or just charge that green house battery while driving?
I have a 165 watt panel up top. Yes.
Steve what are you doing with the old fridge? Rumor has it that if your flip it upside down for 24 hours, something magical happens and the refer works better. I did that a while back but have not bench tested it yet. it's been sitting in my garage waiting for this warm Las Vegas weather. worth testing to see how it does.
At 18 years old (fridge). I grew weary of the fixes and the stress in checking the temp. The new one holds temps and switches automatically between DC, AC and Propane as needed. It's thought free. The price made my mind up for me. That will likely not come along again. I took it as a suggestion from a higher power.
Did you get your bathroom finished? Maybe a video in the future? I want to update mine in the future.
You can see it in my latest video.
