I've lived every moment of this. The look on your face after you landed from your first flight... priceless Trent!! Wow she sounds so different you can hear the extra power growling to unleash it's self. I wish you many hours of happy flying experiences.
Many years later and I still come back to this vid. The song that hits at 8:35 is great...and seeing Nik 100% is like a crystal ball into the past. Cherish what you have!
Trent, so incredibly happy for you! This by far is the best video you have produced. The pure organic excitement on your face was epic. Enjoy the upgrade, see you in the skies! Jay
Nice!
What a Great team of friends and coworkers you have! Amazing turnaround, how you got it all done and then #2 at Drag’s .Mind Blown !
Hey Trent, I was just reading the 915 installation manual on the oil system. Glad you have all the specialized help. That dry sump system is one serial set up!! Looks like you have got got such great Rotax and Kit Fox support. So happy for you.
These videos are almost too much for my brain to handle right now haha. I have to keep rewatching them to take it all in.
I’ve thought a lot about the this airframe/engine combination and it truly is a dream setup. So happy for you!
Your plane just gets better and better! I dont care who paid for what, just that the plane is crazy cool! Livin' the flying life. A big congratulations.
That thing climbs like crazy. Just your 1st flight not pushing it, you climbed faster than before. You turned a pickup truck into a Ferrari!
Wait til you see the real climb rate!
This is by far the best build video. New Avionics, New motor, New cowling. The Vertical power setup is pretty cool. The G3X autopilot is sick. It should be a allot nicer to fly long distances. Pickup truck converted to a Cadillac ATS-V
Just watched you and Mike square off at High Sierra. Great job. Draco is an untamed beast with huge mechanical advantages in thrust, engine power and a reversible pitch prop and you showed your skill by making it a near thing. Well done.
Congrats guys!! What you achieved in that short time is really impressing. Nick you are the man!!! Dying to see your future flights. Thanks for the last videos, bet we were waiting for them!!
Dude, Nick seems to be a fantastic aircraft mechanic. Glad he survived that crash last year. I hope that he is recovering well. Will keep him in prayers.
Amazing guys. I used to work at Boeing in Everett WA. I was in finance, but was always fascinated by the mechanics abilities.
Climbed like a homesick angel ;)
And that wasnt even at full throttle. Just wait til you see what it can really do!
I shed a tear for the passing of the round cowl normally aspirated ..... for a second or so ...... Im over it ...... Ill be danged if I aint like a kid in a candy store myself experiencing this new chapter of the FF with the 915 turbo through video ... Brilliant going on V log of the build and holy crap ... Ive done 12 to 16 hour days on a deadline project ... Its like being in a haze but it in itself has great memories .. You guys busted it out
I've seen footage of High Sierra already. Congratulations on getting into the final. You did great with this plane update.
Im very new to aviation, Im a college student getting degree as a professional pilot and came across your videos while cursing through you tube looking for aviation videos. You definitely made me want to get my tail wheel certification now, and hopefully one day I will be able to afford a plane similar to what you have. Keep up the great work man, you put out awesome content.
Look at that huge smile! The Freedom Fox looks amazing, sounds amazing, and I'm looking forward to seeing it do some amazing flying!
The sound to that engine! The turbo is the only way to go when it's high and hot. Can't wait to hear the results.
Just incredible! Nick and the team at Kitfox are Amazing. When you two started adding up hours. Not even close.. but every minute of talent and expertise, just so impressive. It's the airplane that brings us in but the people is what keeps you in. You have some of the best PEOPLE..
I love that the valve covers on the 915 are the same blue as the Fox.
Amazing work! Thanks for recapping all of the hours that went into such a transformation. It's easy to forget that it takes careful planning and work to pull off something that amazing.
Another great Trent Palmer video. It all looks so amazing. That cowling is a huge plus over the other one. I had not been able to keep up with the videos as I was without internet for a while. I am glad you made it to High Sierra.
Be mindful of your governor Trent. We had our hands full with them on the drones. Pay close attention to the governor/gearcase interface for leakage. Make sure the mount surface for the governor and gasket are spotless or leakage will occur. What prop have you selected for your installation? Also, make sure your torques are precise on this interface or leakage will occur.
I am SO 20th century in my thinking. My poor little mind still thinks of the PN-101 as cutting edge. SHEESH ! Man, it looked like you rolled about 10 feet before the Fox leaped into the air on that last takeoff. You have one super-cool plane, guy!!!
I KNOW! Thinking the same thing! I was just yelling "THAT'S CRAZY, THAT'S CRAZY"! SUPER COOL LIL JEZEBEL! Well done all!
Gonna almost give Draco a run for their money.
That aint going to happen!
Carbon cubs are going to be real sad though!!!
Sorry, I haven't been into broadcast radio since I was a high-schooler. Military cockpits didn't come equipped with that kind of stuff, Hollywood to the contrary.
Permit me a giggle, Kent: I felt the same way when I installed a pingpong table in our bird, a KC-97G, in 1955.
Thru the next three years, ev'body, crew and passengers, enjoyed trips across the pond. The bird's number was
52932, and it was OURS, based in Savannah at Hunter AFB, (which we all hated, natch).
Oh I am SOOO jealous! All that sweet HP! Loving the flat cowling too! Ugh... I need one for my paramotor! 😂😭
You made a beautiful plane even better, that’s what dreams are made of. Congratulations Trent. Spectacular
Awesome! Love your plane. I just started my private pilot program. It has always been a dream for me. I can't wait to solo.
Congratulations Trent! What an excellent project with amazing results. You are a lucky man! It has been much fun sitting here watching this unfold and I am looking fwd to seeing the future from your perspective and pilots seat. Keep up the good blog!
It is definitely a entirely new plane. Beautiful job and magnificent creation!
That plane is so nice wow congratulations.
I love your enthuisasm fr your plane and flying. Keep enjoying !
Damn congratulations Trent! Also, I never realized how much wiring goes into a plane, even one as small as the Kitfox.
There's nothing like that new toy smile! I've seen Trend smile a lot but I could see his gums on that one.
Trent is such a good content creator
My greatest regret is that I have but one like to give to this video.
Man that cowl makes that thing look so much better. I like that a little of the carbon was left peaking through. Keep the videos coming.
Damn this is motivating. I'm just finishing avionics and firewall forward. Sprayed primer on my cowls this morning. I look forward feeling the grin I saw on your face.
You are getting close! Stick with it Brian, can’t wait to see how yours turns out!
so glad you left some carbon showing, looks so good.
So, H4 turbocharged engine with top mount intercooler. If forget whether or not this is an STI kitfox, but yeah... it's basically a flying Subaru.
yeah but the old outbacks had H6
Robert Durbin The Freedom Fox has an STi package that was added later on if I remember correctly
Hopefully it doesn't chew through head gaskets like some of the old ones did.😂
Or worse... ringlands
STi for the kitfox is a couple of larger STOL inspired wings, it has nothing to do with the power train, but yeah thats what i first tought when I first saw it as well
I've had subarus for a while now, both turbocharged and naturally aspirated, and the old outback with an H6 is by far my favorite
Congrats on a fantastic job! The plane is looking and sounding good. I’m looking forward to seeing it in action!
that motor sounds incredible
as it did the fly by it sounded like some ww2 planes doing a low pass
Starting my commercial helicopter licence in September, but there will always be a special part of me for fixed wing. One day I’ll have my own kit fox and a PPL
This is my favorite vid so far. The new cowling looks amazing and it has every bell and whistle you could dream of. Also the music was perfect for the vid and overlayed super well. Congrats Trent!
Such a cool journey to watch unfold. I went back to your first video and watched them all to get to this point. For "Operation Cub Killer", you should create a decal that is a fighting fox on top of a cub on its back (tastefully done of course).
Can’t wait to follow along, off the beaten path of aviation.
Congrats Trent! Now to start filming my Sonerai build.....
Couldn't be happier for you Trent. Congrats. You have the best friends ever!!!
Major props on the editing!!! This by far is one of the best edits I've seen in a while with all the videos I watch on youtube. Definitely can tell you're a master at your craft! Always love watching your videos and look forward to them. You are the only channel I have the bell notification turned on for.
This is my favorite Nikk video. Not many guys give up 10-11 days of their time to work 150 hours so you can make it to the stol drag on time. So glad he has turned the corner. Operation cub killer was clearly a group effort. Well done.
So cool seeing freedom fox gettin the huge upgrades just loving seeing it....
A very pleased and happy Trent Palmer, the performance is outstanding and just look at that cowling, you have some good people around you.
Your first take off at least on video really impressive how quickly she lifted off the ground really like jealous impressive should be proud!!
Well done Nikk and all the guys.
I had a smile on my face watching her takeoff for the first time with the 915. Thatsone sweet setup you have.
AVIONICS!!!!! Best career in aviation!!! ...from one avi tech to another... Awesome Job Nick... A good avionics technician always keep their hands clean!
Well Trent. I think you’ve killed it. When you go you go big. Awesome job.
Love the open view of that canopy.
Trent, that literally is the coolest Kitfox! I have been a fan of Kitfox for years, and this one is so cool. I’ve been waiting for this video for weeks! Congrats on the upgrades!
I just LOVE IT, Buddy!! Congrats on your well-deserved upgraded #FreedomFox!! You have done so much hard work and long hours to get to this point and I am so excited for you. Can’t wait to see her in person!! 🤘🏻
So happy for you Trent, she is a little goer now, that take of was SO bloody impressive. Almost changed my mind on buying a super cub, almost.
Great vid, you inspire me.
Now to get Scot Palmer to start posting again. Looking forward to the comeraderie or High Sierra.
Probably just me. Yet to me the outline reminds me of "Spirit of Saint Louis"
pretty amazing transformation. Looking forward to seeing video of you flying it.
Wow, that cable management is epic.
Also that Plane is extremly cool, looking forward to flying videos with it.
I just watched your drag against Draco. Sooo much closer than I thought it would be. Reverse thrust and I think you might have him next year.
Great series of videos on the Cub Killer, Trent. Thank you for sharing these and for the effort to get them out. Thoroughly enjoying this series, even more so than the Oshkosh series because this series really gets into the nuts and bolts of some of the features available in the experimental and Kitfox markets. Cheers.
I like to old-school bump cowl on the Kitfox, but I have to admit the new red one looks mighty slick.
very nice!!! its come along way and looks amazing, shows that hard work pays off
Well done guys, gorgeous Airplane Trent! I'm glad you left some of the carbon showing, too pretty of work to completely cover up with paint!
Right on Trent..I been anticipating this very moment for the last few weeks. My hats off to you young man. It's great to see enthusiasm in aviation like this. Thanks for the videos....
old A&P from Montana
What an achievement in the time you had, good job guys and thank you for sharing Trent!
Trent, can you take some time and go over how you planed out you panel and how you simplified it? The vids are awesome! Keep it up
Well played guys! All that hard work paid off. I got so excited just watching, I cannot imagine how you must have felt at the time. Really can't wait for the next upload!!! Hi from the UK :)
Their attention to details excellent they really take care of you.✌
U are amazing. Your explanation is so detailed. Wow!
I love the look of the small wheels
Great work, everyone! I was smiling right along with you, Trent!
Excellent build, gentlemen. Wow, new plane, Trent. Congrats! I love all of the engine data, the turbo and the programable prop pitch. I am happy for you. Cool stuff!
All I can think about is "Useful Load." With all of this additional weight, how close are you moving towards GROSS weight for this air frame and wing combination. What if you, while dialing in the Wt and Bal you exceed the factory Gross weight? I mean, would you be restricted to the amount of fuel, now, that you could add to the plane? I think it might be close (?)
Trent your video was excellent and the music fit it perfectly. Really enjoyed it.
It was an absolute joy to see such master craftsmen at work. Personally, I'm sorry to see your steam gauge panel leave. I just like them better, mostly because I'm more use to them. However, that new engine management system will, it sounds make your life a lot easier
It's cool that Kitfox is taking care of you! This is very good publicity for them. While I may never be able to afford to get into flying something like you do, if I ever did, Kitfox would be at the top of my list. Maybe I'll hit a lottery and buy one someday! One can dream. For now, I'll just keep flying my paramotor!
Keep up posting these great videos. So good to see a strong community around healthy habits! I wish we could get more of our young people involved in aviation.
So glad I found your channel mate! The new freedomfox looks and sounds amazing! Can’t wait to see all the crazy adventures you get up to in this thing
hi Trent - well done to you and your team. makes me happy to see people achieving their goals.
Hey Trent, congrats again with another mention on AOPA live, coming in second to Draco at high sierra
Engine sounds great!, Tell us about any break in requirements. What kind of oil? How soon do you do your first oil change out etcetc
Really cool to see the process so quickly progress to completion. Being that Im just finishing my SS7 and preparing to run the engine, it was neat to see what Im to expect with the 912iS that I have.
Wow Trent you do some great work! Plane looks amazing!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is next level badass Trevor!
Dude congrats! Cowl look fantastic! Can’t wait to hear more about performance numbers.
Congrats on the plane! Seems amazing! You are very lucky to be able to build it yourself and with friends. Seems super cool. Enjoy!
Looks like she goes like a rocket. Super stoked for you bud! Looking forward to the ride along at the drags!
the Rotax 915is is an awesome looking engine. The caarbon fibre cowls look amazing.
First flight reaction... so perfect.
Great video Trent. Wish I could have been at HSF to watch the outcome of all this work. Look forward to your vision of HSF.
Been really looking forward to the next episode in this series. Awesome job and results you've managed to get there Trent. Regards from the UK!
Congrats on the project. Looks, sounds, great. Safe flying. Can't wait to be a wingman.
Awesome, I knew it the day you posted the video of you test flying the turbo, it wouldn’t be long before you upgraded. So cool...
Glad to see all the hardwork and money workout in the end. That's a real accomplishment guys.
