EAA has technical advisors that will come look at your project to see if there are any obvious problems while it is under construction. It is free and they have people familiar with many different airframes. All that is required to use this service is being a member of EAA.
One heck of a way to get to know your plane as well! I'm doing darn near the same thing with a motorcycle at the moment. Good work!! Can't wait to see it fly!!
Trent, definitely keep the updates coming for Nikk's build. For those of us interested in the mystery of building a plane, this was a great demo video. Keep up the good work dude.
So Glad that Nikk is recovering ! What a tough dude and that Trent is such a good friend to Nikk. Both you guys rock. But Nikk if you see this or to his family. Know that we are all very supportive of you making a full recovery and hope to see you flying asap. Take care of yourself and get back into the air soon !
At 9:56 Trent to Nikk "I swear to God if you go an ground loop or hit your wing or something Im gonna be mad at you" I nearly cried - so sad to see all the work that went in to this beautiful build given Nikk's crash and knowing that she is no more, get better and build again Nikk! I built an RV7A but still really want to get stuck into a fabric airee, it looks like a time-honored and rewarding experience.
He's doing a great job. It will fly just fine. Looks like he has everything nailed down. So many builders start adding and changing stuff once they begin and that can add years to a project. Trust me, I built my fast build Velocity in only 12 years...
It is so good to see some young guys doing this kind of work. All I ever see are old guys that are retired and really have not much more to do than mow their yards and build the plane. Cannot wait to see this kit fox in the air. Thanks for sharing.
Most young guys are doing the 9 to 5 and chasing kids. That's why its usually the old, retired guys. Not getting on Nick and Trent, we all have different blessings.
Great video. It’d be great to see you check in with Nikk on a regular basis to watch his plane come together. Building a full-size aircraft is my ultimate goal. I built a stick-build 2M RC glider when I was 12, tore down to nothing and rebuilt a wrecked sportbike when I was 20, and built a garage when I was 35. Building is what I do, and aircraft are the ultimate construction. I figure I’m on track to build an airplane when I’m 60, so another 15 years to go. Oh well. At least I have great videos to watch in the meantime. Thank you. 😎
Sweet video Trent. Having spoke with Nikk on the phone last week its cool to have a face to the name now. As fast as he is building he wont have questions of me anymore thats for sure. Eddie
Just go back and give me a slow tour of that mans garage! A Africa Twin DCT, a KTM 1290, I think a KTM 990, I think I spotted a KTM 625(?) way in the back, a CAN-Am side by side....the list goes on! I wanna play at his house!!! 😁👍🏼
Hi Trent, Love watching your stuff man. You reminding me of my high school dream. When I was in 8th grade, my physics teacher introduced me to Fluid dynamics. I thought I should study physics after HS and build my own airplane. 7 years later, now, I got my master degree in physics. But damn, I forget why I study physics in the first place. Your videos have inspired me to make my HS dream a reality. And now I'm ready to put my lab coat off. Would love to see more video like this, Trent.
I did a complete rebuild (down to bare metal) of my Avid Flyer that I had bought second hand years before. Gives you a completely different feeling (and pride) of the airplane. I also used Oratex and it is really great to work with (there are some videos of using Oratex on my page for anyone interested). Hope you are planning to follow up on this film as he progresses!
Like your Tucker Gott tee- shirt..... been watching his stuff for sometime, and will one day fly a para motor( own one) but your bush plane rocks. Both of your videos that you guys do are awesome and inspire not only myself but many others to take to the sky’s. Nothing against Tucker love his stuff, but you have a very good eye when it comes to videos, of course this what you do for a living. Building your own plane looks so gratifying. Once again thanks.
Nikk's shop is pretty damn clean - I can't even imagine keeping myself that organized. I think the scary thing about homebuilding (in a good way) is how approachable it seems. If you have the time and take your time it seems like the bar is really low to build something airworthy and awesome.
Trent. As you did not build your Kit Fox, do you have a "Friend A&P Mech" who does your Annual Condition Inspection, and signs it off? Your friend, Nick, will be able to do his own, as you know. Saves a few bucks there. Plus! As a builder, you know EVERY nook and cranny of your plane. I built 3 EAB's - all wood and fabric. My last build, an EROS Minimax I flew for over 750 hrs before retiring it. Still beats flying GA planes. With the exception of the Piper Arrow, which was my favorite. Like your videos. Thanks, N-6395T (now retired.) Another build in the mix? Don't know, I'm thinking. At 81yrs of age I know I have to "get with it" to get another plane finished. :)
Love your videos! I was getting ready to ask how you acquired your Kit Fox, and I saw this video and a few others that answered my question. Definitely thinking about building my own....but its sure scary when you think about the cost and chance for mistakes. ...then again...that's probably what makes it awesome too! Look forward to seeing more videos on this build!
Trent: “how much longer do you think you have?” Nick: “uhhh...it’s up in the air but...” me: “no Nick. It’s not in the air. That’s why you’re still working on it.” 😂
Great shop he has there and why not indeed use your original wings if they save time getting his Kitfox flying, what is apparent is although this is a kit plane there is still a lot to do,surprised that channel sections are supplied unfinished into those brackets, the Ororcover has bilateral pull when heated its a technique easily learned but if you have not done this before then that was a good start,I bet that you can tidy up the seams by carefully cutting into them and applying heat with the iron then adding some capping over the top just a suggestion for you,I like the comradship of you guys sharing and learning from each other in this way you have a great aviation community, just looking at what you are doing makes me want to be helping hands on with this project, please keep us updated Trent on Nikks progress,I think perhaps he is a bit optimistic in his time to complete as there is still a lot of the time consuming detail stuff to do,another great video and insight into this wilderness workhorse, thank you for uploading it on our behalf.
Trent.... you can make anyone look good on camera. But this guy has mad mechanical skills, and the brains, too. Will we ever see your old 6 pack dash again since you went glass and EFIS?
The most intimidating part for me would be the covering. I would end up with glue and wrinkles everywhere.. BTW love the shirt Trent! Say hi to Tucker and Eric Farewell for me at KOSH!
I spoke with the Rotax people at SNF yesterday, and the guy was telling me how easy the EFI was to service. He even said that he took out one set of the injectors while the engine was running and, after a few moments, the computer took over and automatically fired the second set twice, which kept it running pretty well. That was impressive, to me.
Trent Palmer on another note, I sat in the Speedster yesterday at Sun and Fun, and that thing was way comfortable. I also talked with Rob Rossiter from Aerotrech...trying to decide...
Trent how much does a bush plane just like yours cost? And how easy is it to mantain? Can you make a video about that? I’m very sure a lot of people would be interested! You’re awesome man I also fly quadcopters, RC planes and looking forward to be a pilot🚀
When you say building a plane is on your bucket list would you have a look at planes other than the kitfox? I'm looking at a zenith CH750 super duty at the moment.
They are PC fans on an additional radiator inside the cockpit which functions as the heater. Mine has the same, works great, just runs off the hot coolant from the motor
Now this is an awesome video. Love the dyi approach he's taking. Nothing like being able to brag about putting your own airplane together. Looks like Kitfox has a fantastic kit there... Btw, is that an old B body Mopar I see lurking under that cover in the back ground? Looks like possibly a 68-70 Road Runner? 👍
every time when i watch any of your videos that has Nick on it .. I unconsciously go.. thank god he is alive and recovering,, bless him.
what
Yup n wonder how he is
Yep! It was the first thing I thought, And then I saw the shirt that Nick was wearing.
You need a weekly check in in this build. Awesome
Of course, you follow Tucker... XP
Ever tried PPG? I'm a paramotor guy, but my dream is to do what you do someday!
Kitfox is love, Kitfox is life.
You just keep noticing cooler and cooler things in the garage as the video goes.
Justin Manship me too! Drooling!

That picture of the Duke on the wall made my morning!
One heck of a way to get to know your plane as well! I'm doing darn near the same thing with a motorcycle at the moment. Good work!! Can't wait to see it fly!!
Your videos are not only entertaining, they are educational and inspiring! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Justin!
Agreed, can you please post the progress regularly.
9:50 was ominous. I can't wait to see Nick's new plane.
thanks Trent so good to see nick really enjoying building the Phenix Fox!!
I take it the Kit Fox airframe is already welded and ready for assembly. Excellent video, very informative.👍
Trent, definitely keep the updates coming for Nikk's build. For those of us interested in the mystery of building a plane, this was a great demo video. Keep up the good work dude.
Great build.....Please Trent keep up with updates if you can.......RC to pilot way to go Nick
Top quality and info as usual Trent. A one man army.... much respect....
"It's a bush plane" when talking about imperfections ... priceless.
True. You know every imperfection.
So Glad that Nikk is recovering ! What a tough dude and that Trent is such a good friend to Nikk. Both you guys rock. But Nikk if you see this or to his family. My goodness I didn't know it was possible to have such garage envy haha! My wife would never see me again if I had that set up!!
He's doing a great job. It will fly just fine. Looks like he has everything nailed down. So many builders start adding and changing stuff once they begin and that can add years to a project. Trust me, I built my fast build Velocity in only 12 years...
I did my EROS Minimax in SIX months. Rolled it out and arranged for my FAA inspection. (no DAR)
It is so good to see some young guys doing this kind of work. All I ever see are old guys that are retired and really have not much more to do than mow their yards and build the plane. Cannot wait to see this kit fox in the air. Thanks for sharing.

All these amazing toys in one room :D Life goals right there!
Sweet video Trent. Having spoke with Nikk on the phone last week its cool to have a face to the name now.

Eddie
Awesome! Wanna see more videos on this plane coming together.
Great video. Keep us updated. I enjoy the mechanics of the build.
Just go back and give me a slow tour of that mans garage! A Africa Twin DCT, a KTM 1290, I think a KTM 990, I think I spotted a KTM 625(?) way in the back, a CAN-Am side by side....the list goes on! I wanna play at his house!!! 😁👍🏼
Great to see!!, also the Tucker gott shirt 🤘
Great video especially the picture of the Duke

Would love to see more video like this, Trent.
I hope you keep us updated with Nick and his build. It’d be cool to see that thing airborne.
I like the bikes in the background! KTM FTW:)
Congrats to Nikk. After looking at your videos, it looks to me that he made a GREAT choice.
I did a complete rebuild (down to bare metal) of my Avid Flyer that I had bought second hand years before. Gives you a completely different feeling (and pride) of the airplane. Thanks man! And yeah, I’m a big fan of Tucker, he does some awesome stuff in that paramotor
I noticed your shirt.. bought a jacket just like it from the merch site. Love the videos!
Thank you trent. I have been looking for a video like this for a while now.
Great video, but what a garage! Kitfox, 990, Africa Twin, 1090, Colin Edwards and John Wayne posters, CanAm...Nikk has quite the place.
Always enjoy to watch. I learn a lot! Shout out from Vegas!
The contents of that garage are worth more than my life.
Great vids! Be great to see an update with this project.
Nikk's shop is pretty damn clean - I can't even imagine keeping myself that organized. I think the scary thing about homebuilding (in a good way) is how approachable it seems. If you have the time and take your time it seems like the bar is really low to build something airworthy and awesome.
When you build your own kitfox please make a series with it. this is very interesting
Love your videos Trent! You're living my dream man lol. Keep giving us this awesome content.
-What's your friend doing?
-Just building a FREAKING PLANE not that deal bro..
I love this channel

Get better soon man
“If you go and ground loop and hit your wing on something...” Oof.
Even as a joke, I thought that was a "bit cold."
Quite the man cave! Love it. All you need is an expedition truck :-)
My favorite lquote of this video, (mostly because it would be ME) " God I hope it flies!"
That garage is nice! Very cool build. I’m on the east coast and seems like there isn’t many places to do bush flying over here.
I live in Florida, and was thinking the same thing! Then I realized, I live in FLORIDA, land of a 1000 lakes! Float Flying anyone?
cortney krusz haha there you go! I wonder what the rules are on that.
This is one of the best videos. Hope you follow his project! If not he needs to start a youtube build page.
I would definitely build a rotisserie for the frame. Looking good.
Yeah, it would be a little bit of a daunting undertaking but would be so awesome to fly a plane you built yourself!
great build, great garage full of toys....
this is cool keep posting this build plzz. oh and the rc planes awesome I just ordered me another rc plane last week.
I enjoyed this video. It would be nice to see progress updates!
That garage! So jealous
Good video. Must be great having a hangar sized garage !
4:30 that Tucker Gott shirt though
Trent: “how much longer do you think you have?”
Nick: “uhhh...it’s up in the air but...”
me: “no Nick. It’s not in the air. That’s why you’re still working on it.” 😂

Trent.... you can make anyone look good on camera. But this guy has mad mechanical skills, and the brains, too. Will we ever see your old 6 pack dash again since you went glass and EFIS?
This is still probably easier to build than a piece of ikea furniture
You can say that again
Daniel harman your so right
at least kitfox gives good instructions on how to assemble the dang thing
@@Newberntrains kitfox way to much money
Love that shirt you gott there!
I've just gott to commend you on that comment
you've Gott-a love it!
I've gott to say he needs to tucker in that shirt.
Let's see if Tucker gott a shirt from Trent
Noticed that too! Wish I had picked one up myself!
That RC collection tho!!!
I may need to get Nick's number. My STI kit gets here next month. Doing oratex as well. Good job. Always nice to see other builds
I've been using Oratex in R/C for years and can only recommend it!
I see your friend also has good taste in adventure bikes as well.
Very nice, can't wait to see flight video.
RIP Kitfox, get well soon Nikk
That garage 😍
Looks like a lot of work. What is the advantage in building it yourself? Just savings or is there some sort of regulatory benefit?
Oratex is pre tinted the color you want for finish on your plane.
Place for cheap stuff is called (the yard) in Wichita ,ks has all kinds of end mills drill bits aviation tools and other stuff check them out
That's a beautiful garage.
I have to admire those who can keep their shops neat, tidy and organized. Mine always looks like Godzilla rampaged through it.
The most intimidating part for me would be the covering. I would end up with glue and wrinkles everywhere.. BTW love the shirt Trent! Say hi to Tucker and Eric Farewell for me at KOSH!
Great job guys !
Awesome video Trent!!
Great vid, Trent! Thanks.
First of all, I think your opening is really good. Secondly, you’ve got some neat friends.
Yeah, the EFI is impressive for sure, just harder to troubleshoot in the field should anything ever go wrong
Trent Palmer on another note, I sat in the Speedster yesterday at Sun and Fun, and that thing was way comfortable. I also talked with Rob Rossiter from Aerotrech...trying to decide...
My vote would obviously be for a Kitfox, but flying anything is better than not flying!
loving the ktm 990 in the back
I'd love to go a build from scratch. Start out with a pile of parts, and then end up with a completed airplane.
Trent: Say hi, Nick.
Nick: Hi.
FAIL.
Sweet! New planes!
Hey trent. Coming up from Sacramento to ride dirt bikes out of Minden at pine nuts. Should come out and film us. Oh wait, yours is down. Bummer.
Godspeed Nick!
At 01:24 am I seeing this right? PC case fans used for on the oil cooler?
They are PC fans on an additional radiator inside the cockpit which functions as the heater. Mine has the same, works great, just runs off the hot coolant from the motor
Now this is an awesome video. Love the dyi approach he's taking. Nothing like being able to brag about putting your own airplane together. Looks like Kitfox has a fantastic kit there...

Updates would be sweet😋 favorite UA-camr btw keep it up👍🏼
Nice video! How many hours in this build?
I m praying for Nikk.
why?
Greg Plaka he was in a nearly fatal crash in late 2018. Watch some more recent videos where he talked about it.
Question,..on your Plane you have a firewall blanket. Do you think it helps much with sound, and/or cold?
We are waiting on a firewall forward kit to put a 912ULS on our Kitfox 4 and was wondering about a blanket
Fabric looks the hardest thing to do.
Do they ship you that frame pre welded? Love your channel!
Yep. Shipped pre-welded.
Do you have a video that includes context for the roll in your intro?
How much is the Rotax engine and the prop? You guy`s have me thinking, which can lead to doing things,....
