Love Nikk- many prayers headed his way for a speedy recovery. His quick smile, his humor, his obvious love of flying- I hope his down time is short, but, glad that he's still among us- a great addition to your wide and varied group, Trent. Obviously, the accident was caused by hypothermia. It must've been hard to fly in the cold and imposing shadow of TRENT PALMER, heating vents would've helped that scene. Thanks for the numbers, and, the insights of the 915 iS. It's easy to forget all of the FADEC tech, dual alternators, engineering and planning that went into the design/build of that motor. I agree, it's super well considered from all aluminum construction to dual ECU's, programming, etc... I will admit that I'm a little sad that it lost some of it's zippy, fighter characteristics, but, the slight forward C of G will have that stabilizing effect, the increased weight (inertia) along with no modifications of wing or tail feathers will net out a little less responsive overall. It looks friggin awesome (love the carbon V on the front cowling!), it climbs like Draco -OK, almost like Draco, and, I adore the teddy bear in the mouth of that rangy fox... I sense a purchase in my near future! I enjoyed the cub vs. fox ribbing, but- let's be honest- they're BOTH great planes! (Don't tell Cory or STOL Pilot Quinn I said that tho!) Hey, we need a house update soon. Can't wait til you're flying out of your driveway... Thanks for the info, we've all been waiting! Dave P.S. Thanks for the Garmin G3X input, I found it very insightful. I like the way it integrates firewall forward, it seems to mate up well with the Rotax engine, which seems to be well planned in case of failure...THEY seem to work well together...
As an A&P, and a pilot, I have to say it’s nice to hear a pilot speaking fluently with a clear understanding of this type of stuff. It kills me when I hear people say insane stuff like: “carb heat reduces the effect of gravity so the fuel can flow easier” because they don’t understand the machine they’re operating thousands of feet in the air. Anyways nice work as always, and sorry to hear about your friend.
Nikk, don’t let injuries get you down. If you survived, you can recover, and you’ll recover with an outlook on life, a second chance, that many don’t get. You will come out galvanized, you will see clearly what matters in life. (Not that you don’t already) Thanks for sharing your stories with us Trent, Nikk, and the rest of the fliers. P.S. your motor/engine rant was perfect 👌🏼
baychevy right on the money. This is exactly how I felt after being hit by a truck when I was riding a motorcycle 20 years ago. You will heal Nikk and you will go back to what you love. Sorry you got hurt and sorry you lost your newly built plane but at least you have your life. Speedy recovery and we'll see you back in the skies
I'm quite impressed with the performance. That cub killer sticker is so sick I just ordered some merch!! It was cool meeting you at HSF and seeing the Freedom Fox in person. Real sorry to hear about Nikk but glad he is doing well and nice to see a smile on his face in the pictures of his status updates :) Thanks for another awesome Vlog. can't get enough!!
Praying for Nikk to have a quick recovery. Trent, full details of the crash would be good to put out there when you are ready. Many people following your videos and your exceptional flying (you make it look easy) have no idea how close to the limits you guys are flying and how quickly something can go wrong. I hope Nikk gets back in the air soon. Keep up the great work!
Like you said Trent, it can happen to any of us. God speed to Nikk, sending good mojo his way. Hope you keep us informed of his recovery. He seems like a really nice guy.
Thanks for the update on Nikk. Happy he is recovering and making progress. there is a whole world of people, who follow you and the Cowboys, and are pulling for his speedy recovery. Best to Nikk, and to you for being there for him.
Been thinking about Nikk and his family, both physical and flying families, since the news of the crash. Hoping for a full recovery and thank you for keeping us updated.
First off, Prayers to Nikk for a speedy recovery. I lost my mother this past week and her father was the one that had everything to do with my love for all things that fly. The brevity of our lives is one thing that we really take for granted. I can see the passion that you guys have for flying and for living your life to the fullest! As for now, I am an RC guy but events of the last couple of years have made me realize how much I miss flying. Your videos have steered me more towards getting back in the air than any others. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your passion, experiences, and insight with us all ,Trent. Fair winds and safe landings to you my friend and prayers to Nikk for a speedy recovery and return to the air.
Congratulations on the Second place finish at High Sierra Trent! No small thing considering your competition... well done! Great numbers and extremely impressive... thanks for the update. I am terribly sorry to hear about Nikk! I will keep him in my prayers and hope that he recovers quickly...
Watched you guys for a long time now. You've inspired me to get my ass out of my couch, and I'm 10 hrs down the road for my pilots license! I wish you all the best and hope Nikk gets better fast, and that the accident won't put him off flying... Stay safe :)
Prayer to Nikk. Thank you for posting these videos. My sons are in elementary school and watch your videos over and over. I know they have learned a lot more from this than if playing video games or watching some wasted of film cartoon. Thank you for keeping it classy and mostly interesting for them.
Glad Nikk is recovering. You and nikk are my inspiration on flying so much i ordered an S7 STI and cant wait to get it together. Hopefully be seeing you two at high sierra for 2019. Good luck to you. And speedy recovery for nikk.
Trent you are an inspiration to all who aspire to make a career in aviation. I have been flying for over 46 years and over 20000 hours of incident free total enjoyment flying aeroplanes. Your views and attitude to this fantastic pastime you should be very proud of as they mirror the true passion I have for flying. Please keep these stories coming and all the best to your friend, get him back in a plane as soon as you can. Boydie,Sydney Australia
At some point down the road, I'd love to see a comparative cost analysis of maintenance between the new 915is and what you were used to seeing on your old 912. Keep at it! Great vids.
I'm glad Nik made it to hospital, I don't do prayers, but I certainly wish him the fullest, speediest recovery possible, and note that technology and medical care has never been better than it is today, so thanks to the hard, unceasing work of good people at universities, hospitals, laboratories and so on, chances of recovery from traumatic injuries have never been as good as they are right now. I'm no pilot, but I work with high-voltage electrics where things can also go bad in an instant - my advice is check that you are shitting yourself every time you do it - as long as you're still aware enough to be scared, you'll stay careful. One thing I do that some think is weird, is I vocalise my checklist as I'm doing it, hearing my own voice is somehow like hearing someone else ask me, and I'll double-check and answer myself as I'm writing it down. Keep checkin' those filler caps, Trent. (PS this second paragraph is just general comment from someone who regularly works in an area with great hazards - I do not mean to imply that a lapse in procedure had anything to do with the particular accident Trent described).
Said a prayer for your boy Nikk. Hope he has a swift recovery. Y'all be safe out there. Congrats on the new motor, also you are right on; the engine/motor pedants need to chill.
Prayers for Nikk, you and all fellow pilots & families. Trent, you're so good, organized, concise and relaxed in your presentations on the Vlog. Hats off to you. Love to see some more drone BTS on the work side of things. Thanks for entertaining all of us.
Trent I'm very sorry to hear about Nick. My heart aches for him and you all. I know the pain of losing a plane but not the tremendous physical pain on top. My airplane was recently damaged in the wind. Now I have a full winter project. Prayers and safe flying to all. Great vids keep em up.
Thanksfor another great video, Trent. I agree, it is good to hear somebody who knows what is going on with what on the operations of things mechanical. Now for the important part: I saw the news the day the accident happened (we live in SE Arizona,) and knew immediately who it was. I was so releaved to hear that Nikk is alive and recovering. I can't wait to see him up and flying again, and our prayers are with him for a speedy and full recovery!
Sorry to hear about Nikk. I hope he as a speedy and full recovery. I am sure with good friends and family he will have a lot of support to moving forward.

Glad Nikk is OK prayers for a speedy recovery, Awesome video as always Trent - thanks for the numbers. That turbo is most impressive but I got to say the avionics gets me the goose bumps.

Thoughts with you Nikk. Stay strong mate. Make sure you get back into the pilots seat as soon as you can and don't be afraid. I'm sure you will get back in there. Good luck ing your recovery.
I waved at you and Nick as you overflew my house northbound on the day of the accident. I was outside loading up the car.
