I was concerned about the breaking in period after reading countless reviews. The iron rangers felt good on day 1. No issue whatsoever. Wore the boots for 10+ hours on the weekend at the archery range and I had no issue. Love the boots - will be my daily wear for a while.

Mine are 8 years old and as soft as cloth at this point. They are so patinated and thrashed that they are not recognizable as IR anymore, almost a dark purple from all the mink oil. I’m not a huge fan of the clodhopper shape of the toe, but it’s an excellent motorcycle boot with that genuine capped toe. I replaces them with Whites MP, so I wear the IR as an after ski boot nowadays, they get a lot of compliments in that setting and they are super waterproofed with mink oil. Check back in in 5 years lol

If you like them now wait till 6 months of use or so, they'll get way softer.

Im breaking in a pair of Grant Stone Brass Boots and my feet are shredded. The quality of the boots are the best Ive seen and once broken in Ill wear nothing else.

Congratulations Nate. Bought my first pair of Iron Rangers 3 years ago and within 4 months, I had a second pair. I wear them all the time year round and once you break them in, they're incredible. They patina really well after a year.

Regular updates would be nice. My pair are 14 years old, Amber Harness. Still great boots.

Oddly enough, I didn't need a break-in period for my IR boots. I wore them right after purchasing them during my trip to Tokyo and walked for at least 5 to 6 hours a day for 2 weeks straight. I suppose if you measure your feet accurately with a Brannock device and get the right boot size, you won't experience any discomfort. Many people either buy boots that are too big or too small.

I had a no pain break in. Before wearing them, I conditioned inside & outside . I also put in Saphir insole....

I just purchased my first pair of Thorogood. I’ve had them for approximately three weeks. No breaking.. I use red wing mink oil. We’ll see how long these last. I wish they would use a Vibram sole. Great video. Thank you.

My right foot is also a bit shorter. I believe that is quite normal.

CRT is a lot faster to break in than the amber harness, which is what most people gauge off of. That's just the leather though. The insole is what really takes months and months to break in

I have both and the CRT is harder for me

I never get heel slip while breaking in my Red Wing Heritage boots. I live in San Diego, California I wear black crew socks. Way too hot in winter to wear wool socks. I size down 1/2 size down from Brannock device size.

My feet are the exact same way … had my 8085s 4 years now still going strong … the break in process on theses are easy compared to the other leathers on the other rangers there all different leathers some more ruff to break in then others !

How do they look now? i really hope they darken, as i'm regretting not getting the 8111s rather than 8085s

Hey man, just a quick question I already have 8084 and I'm planning to get 8085 Copper so what you recommend go for 8085 or 8111 Amber ? Please assist:)

If you need some cushion in your shoes will these work or should I stay away? Thanks.

Get some orthotics with cushion underneath. Super Feet has good ones. Redwing stores sell them. Try on boot with cushioned insole. 🤌🏼🤌🏼

If they don’t feel comfortable on day 2, you’ve got the wrong size…:go back and get a bigger size

Never wear cotton socks. You will open yourself up for blisters.
