Sorry for the long and uncut video! I enjoy this kind of videos so I hope you do as well.
I've owned my Red Wing Iron Ranger for awhile now and never really cleaned and conditioned it. I am noticing small stress cracks on the surface of the leather so I decided to clean and condition it. I wanted to do it right so I researched the correct conditioner and found that the Cobler's Choice is it. It is available on Amazon.
I love these boots and want to make sure it last for some time. There is no reason not to wear the Red Wing Iron Ranger everyday because it "fits" my lifestyle perfect.
Some people are into basketball shoes or tennis shoes and I'm all about the Iron Ranger boots.

Thank you for your support.

That's absolutely true. As you reach a certain age, you begin to appreciate workwear and heritage style.
Nice. Good thing is that your leather cream doesn't darken the leather very much. Mine did and that's a bit pity.
Great video. They came out looking really nice and by conditioning them you give them a life. It’s nice when you see someone giving their redwings the right preventative maintenance, which also makes them look great too. Jeans and red wings it’s the way to go! Stay safe and look forward to future videos.
Thanks, more to come soon! Stay safe as well.
Nice looking boots! Very similar to my 8085s.
Thanks! I love them!
This is a great video! I was planning on doing something similar for a video with my boots. Always great to show some maintenance and conditioning tutorials!
Thanks Josh as always! I’m glad I did this. The leather feels so much softer and hydrated now. I’m also going to do the other ones this weekend. We have to take care of our investments for sure!
Hey Man, we all make mistakes. No biggie. Love the show
Thank you! That means a lot!
Good and informative video. So have they lightened up or darkened since this video?
Thanks, they have since darken in spots especially the area around the cuff of my pants.
Cometiste un error que nunca se debe hacer. Después de haber aplicado el jabón, la bota está húmeda y debes esperar a que ésta se seque y ya después aplicar el acondicionador.
It turned out alright but yes I agree!
Nice one. Thanks.
Hey thanks!
those kept their color amazingly well. i have 1 year old 8085's and they are really dark in spots compared to yours. not sure how mine lost the copper color so quickly .
You wear yours more
I’ve had it longer now and yes it has gotten darker spots from my jeans rubbing on it.
Look great! I'm wanting a pair of these in amber harness and black.
Red Wing Leather Cream will condition and not change the color of your Orange Rough and Tough boots. Bickmore Leather Cleaner and Conditioner #5 (spray bottle) is the best conditioner for frequent cleaning/conditioning of leather boots I have used.
Thanks! I’m sold on Bickmore conditioners as well. Red Wing products are good as well and will incorporate on my next cleaning vids.
Fun Fact: today i bought a pair of Iron Ranger Amber Harness in a local shop, but i noticed that they are the previous model, the ones with the "flat" sole.... guess they don't sell much of those boots around here since i discovered that Red Wing uses the Mini Lug since 2016... hey man don't beat yourself up, excellent video IMHO keep doing what you enjoy doing... i bought those iron ranger to ride with my Harleys too BTW :)
Congratulations on the new purchase! No worries, I love mine no matter the bottoms. Thanks! I’m glad you ride with it as well. I’ll make more videos of the IR and my Harley soon.
Be sure to condition them
The year of fabrication is printed on the Red Wing label inside of the boot.
I just bought it from Shibuya last week. It was 46K yen here but i am really happy with those 😊
Congratulations! I noticed the price hike on Red Wing products while I lived overseas (Japan/Korea). A good indication that it is certainly valued out there. 😍
@@StylishGreaseMonkey offcourse it is
The beckmen are 50k yen.I guess its not just the style but also the fact that it is almost impossible to find a leather boots with such thick leather that age so beautiful.Loving them
Great video but I'm curious as to why you went with the Cobbler's Choice Leather Cream for the 8085, which is a Nubuck leather. It states on the can that it's not recommended for Nubuck leather.
Thanks! I’ve always been a rebel when it comes to cleaning products and per my discussion with one of my friends that works on leather I decided to use this product because of the natural way it was made with beeswax. I think it’s not recommended for suede, rough out, or nubuck (in my opinion) is because it will change the color of the leather if it’s not treated like most shiny surfaces leather. I didn’t mind it getting darker. The beeswax gave it a really soft and smooth to the touch finish, but not too thick. Beeswax protected the surface as well. I have also used the cream/conditioner on my leather watch strap and I like the results.
Red Wing has made videos on how to care for their Copper Rough and Tough leather.
If you are going to re oil or grease them then the saddle soap is fine
I use dish soap, a soft bristle brush and obenaufs on all of my boots. People baby their leather too much. It's skin, get it clean then oil it... The oil is just for lubrication the skin cells are not going anywhere you just need to keep it from wearing itself out. You're not giving it oils to make new skin cells your giving it oil to make it soft and pliable.
Like I say to everyone who's getting into leather "keep it clean, keep it oiled."
I agree with your method. I also agree that if you already have saddle soap then use it. I beat my boots up really good now that I’m back home and working in my garage. Sometimes I stop to look at the new scratches and think to myself how crazy I am to work on these expensive pair. Oh well, more stories to tell down the road.
I just bought my first iron rangers today 8085 what would u recommend to keep it clean and conditioned
I like to keep the original Copper Rough and Tough look of the leather. Once you rub anything on it, that look is gone forever.
Good work, those boots didn’t do much miles or you must be walking on grass and sand all day. I have mine for 3 months and the stitches on the sole are already gone.
Thanks, I had these while in Busan when I lived there. All city and no dirt. It doesn’t look like this anymore since I’ve been back home. 😊
What is the strap on your Casio?
Custom by yours truly! I mess around with leathers here and there. Thanks for noticing!
@@StylishGreaseMonkey I love my Casios . Love the videos man.
Awesome! Me too, this calculator watch was a throw back from my 1980s years. I have other watches but somehow this one is being noticed lately lol.
@@StylishGreaseMonkey I hear that.
What's wrong with saddle soap it's the best
great video, what size are the boots?
Thanks, they are 11.5D.
Suede cleaner would have been better
Maybe…I’ll have to try.
Come on get on with it
Great video, you should check out some PNW boots, Nicks, Whites or Wesco. They’ll last a life time and my Nicks got way more comfortable once the arch support molded to my feet.
Thanks! I sure will.
Red wings rough and tough is a total gimmick..mine turned black in 1 month..and they can't return them back. Total bullshit
You definitely can’t turn it back. My 1907 is almost black but I made a mistake of using the wrong conditioner. I also use it for work outside and it gets wet and oily. With all that lessons learnt, my Iron Ranger remained light by using Bickmore Bick 4 conditioner. There will be areas in which it will rub and turn black but that is okay.
Going into to much already known details just get into how you care for them
Right on.. thanks for watching anyway. Sorry for the long video.
