I was at Nicks getting fitted the same time you were. Got the notification this morning that my 1964 Brown Americanas shipped. Really excited, they are my first top tier boot. I've been into Iron Rangers for work and field for years. The minilug is perfect for my downtown concrete, asphalt, gravel, waxed tile environment.. Black minilugs leave marks on tile, but I find the brown minilugs are far less prone to that. My two oldest pairs, a mule skinner and a copper rough and tough were recently sent into Drews Boots for full lug honey conversions and I absolutely love them for field use in the sagelands and lava rocks. Iron Rangers are durable, supportive, and nimble. Society lost something when it switched to cheaply made glued sneakers.
That’s so cool you saw us filming!!!! Man I bet that honey lug is going to be legit, I love that look! So happy you found us and hope we meet again in person. I’ll be back in the PNW this coming summer. 🥾🥾
Bro, appreciate your earnestness and how genuine you are. Love your approach and the fact you are remaining yourself. My next boot purchase will be blacksmiths as I have the Thursday captains already.
I have the 8085 copper amazing boots top of the line quality and actually pretty cheap for as long as they last and how many times they can be resoled and MADE IN THE USA!!
The super nice lady you speak of in that store sold me my 8111’s too. I liked her and the Iron Rangers so much I went back and bought 8083’s and the 1907 Mocs a few months later. I will be going back soon. Super comfortable boot and just the best location and sales woman there. McKinney Red Wing is the best!!! Great video!!!!
Awesome review brother, I love that you actually took them out on the trail and not just leaning up against a brick wall with extra skinny jeans lol Just ordered a pair in black one half size down. That seems to be my sweet spot. Keep up the great work!
After 3 years of walking on wonderful moc toe mohave olive I just bought the 8111 iron ranger and oiled right out from the box. They are just starting to break in. Went a full size down from my usual size.
Just got the copper rough & tough a couple of days ago. Sized down a half because of their magic size machine. I was afraid they would HURT, but so far so good. Wear them and hour or so at a time right now and will gradually increase. I haven't worn boots for a few years. They feel good. Wish me luck!
I went with the Blacksmiths in copper rough and tough. Love them. However I do use an insert as I like the extra padding under foot. The insoles are leather with cork filler and the mini lug outsole is harder than I expected
Just got my 8085’s they have been comfortable since day 1 (yesterday)😂 I just broke in a pair of Nick’s builder pro’s so maybe my feet are tougher now! Great video!
I picked up a pair of iron rangers about a year ago. I was surprised how well they fit, the heel is slim which I like and there is room in the vamp area for my toes. My only negative is the sole, it took about 2-3 months for them to get more flexible (i was only wearing them about once a week, sometimes twice). The Iron Rangers are a great looking boot but because it lacks a midsole, it doesn't offer much shock absorption.
That’s the problem man, I think they got with the tobacco companies to put some addictive chemicals into the leather! Sounds like a legit collection you have. Cheers man 🥾🥾
I just ran into your review and would just like to say thank you. It's a very refreshing and genuine approach. I just bought my first pair of Red Wing 875s and will get a pair of Iron Rangers next, thank to your vid. Subscribed. :)
Great video! You did a great job talking me into the IRs. I have been on the fence, only because I am wondering what this really is…I mean, I love the look and hint at history, but practically these are not really for hiking (not weatherproof), not really able to be dressed up either. We have to accept them for what they are, and that is an awesome looking boot that you can do ‘some’ outdoor stuff with, and that you can do ‘some’ dressing up with. Maybe that is good enough…a real trail boot can’t do business casual, and a real dressed up boot can’t do even a little outdoors…so these fill in that gap between the extremes. If I get a dedicated trail boot then I still need a dedicated casual boot, so I still need at least one more pair anyway. I am hoping that these will be warm for winter with heavy wool socks.
Thanks so much for watching! I’ll be putting my “my boot collection 2021” video out soon and talk all about my different boot for different purpose. However, I really think that these boots are every mans boot and are well rounded. Thanks for the comment!! 🥾🥾
Great review! I have the same boots and they rock! I also had an issue with regards to my size, but I solved the mistery and it works with all of my Goodyear Welt boots. I make sure the ball of the foot aligns with the flexing point of the boot, I don't pay mucho attention to the front space between my toes and the tip of the boots... That works for me. I am size 8 D in all my GW boots. Cheers!!
Great review. Just added a pair of amber IR to my collection. Took a while since size 14 is hard to find. I found new, old stock with the smooth sole. Very happy, and the break in was easy. Keep up the good work.
Yeah that’s a big one for sure, I always try my best to keep guys like you on my good side!! Stoked you found the older outsole. Appreciate ya watching and taking time to comment! 🥾🥾
Almost 2 months into my iron rangers and I love the sole and the comfort of the boot. I didn’t notice a rough break in but I’m a lineman and used to wearing WESCO highliners. All that said I really wouldn’t call these a work boot, traipsing through the woods (we dont get nice trails) has lacerated the leather in a couple spots. Mine are aging fast and hard and I clean them and oil them weekly, but they get soaked through in sweat and dew from wet grass so I care for them very often. Comfortable is about all I can say for them, but most guys that are used to modern boot cushion are probably gonna hate them. The shank I was told they have is nonexistent. I carry my wesco boots for when it’s time to really work and use my iron rangers for easy days.
Sounds like we wear our boot about the same, love it. I gotta have boots that are ready to take me where I want to go. The wesco boots sound great! I didn’t notice a hard break in either and certainly feel the arch is lacking and the transition between shoes and these could be tough for some. Thanks for watching
@@shannonandsheila1403 let’s put you in a set of hooks and see what you think about the shank compared to boots that have a substantial shank. I have experienced wesco, nicks, Hoffman, halls, even the Ariat power line series has more shank support than Redwing Iron rangers. Stomping on a shovel with these things isn’t much better than a tennis shoe. Buyer beware, fanboys will make you believe these are the end all boot to justify they money they spent. They were the end all the year they were created and they are still great for someone that does light work. If you need a steel shank support for being on a ladder all day, or climbing trees or poles in hooks then don’t waste your time on Iron Rangers. If you already have a boot for that and want a more comfortable boot for just your general wear then they are great.
@@uscorg You do realize nicks and a couple of the other boots you mentioned only have a leather shank i used to be a logger on the east coast until i got to old

Sound like you are going to have a good thing going! Appreciate you watching. I was surprised to go down pretty much a whole size from my tennis shoe size. Catch ya on the next video 🥾🥾

The soles are great for Gravel, pavement ext. But wet wood like decks or stairs they are actually dangerous lol I love my 8085s and wear them daily over a year old now and they are beat to a snot . I will be resoling them with 100 lug in the next year or so and can't wait . I have change my opinion about use after owning them this long .first I wanted a rugged boot for work /outdoor use but now I wear them daily as a casual boot for style . At their price I think there are better BEATER boots out there for hard use . Keep the content coming . Have a good one !
Beautiful boots. You are so lucky. I still love my Thursday captain boots. I was going to get a pair of Wolverine 1000 mil . I think they will be better for me .
I just bought the blacksmiths. I went down half a size. I find my heel moves and the rough leather inside causes problems. Ive now used a lacing method to lock my foot in but I don’t find them comfortable and am struggling to break them in.
I’d be curious if they are still too big 🤷♂️. Sorry you are going through that mate. Hope they break in soon man! A little heel slip is sometimes ok but not a lot. 🥾🥾
Fantastic review and I enjoy your content! I own the Charcoal Rough & Tough (8086) model and love them. I use Bick 4 as my conditioner of choice, that way the color doesn’t get too dark. I have leather laces in them from Guarded Goods; a nice upgrade IMO from the stock laces. I agree, these are amazing boots! Oh, and that’s neat that you purchased in McKinney, TX. I live up the road in Plano!!
I’ll have to look into Guarded Goods, I see guys doing a lot of neat stuff with laces. At least you have the extra pair now! I found Plano to be a beautiful area. I took these on a walk through Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. That charcoal color is out of sight mate!! Thanks for watching. 🥾🥾
great review. sizing was weird for me as well. 11.5/11 in almost all tennis shoes and I went to a 10D in IR’s, Blacksmiths, and Moc Toes. sucks a little a first but man they eventually fit like the best pair of gloves money can buy
Sure helps when you can go in to a Red Wing store and try them on, glad they have a good return policy though since I’ve had to go both routes. Cheers 🥾🥾
@@GentlemansJourney I tried them but honestly they felt very tight. The guy that sized me up has been working there for over 30 years and told me that toe room is okay and always to shop comfort/feel. Said if it bothers me just throw in insoles and wear thicker socks. Just don’t like how they crease but apparently shouldn’t worry about that stuff.
I consider the boots being unlined a plus. The leather will form around your foot and ankle better. I have a pair of 875 moc toes from 2016 and I would hate a fabric lining.
Hi. Good review. I actually bought some saddle soap and don't personally have any experience using it as of yet with any of my boots. Just curious why you said people have been going away from it before I use it for anything? Thanks
They feel the ingredients are not good for the leather, however about as many are saying its good. I try not to over complicate it. These boots are expensive but not like dress boot leather. If you give them any care at all, you're above the other 99% of Gentlemen out there. I have not had issues with saddle soap and still trust it. Even talking with Cobblers Choice, they have their own cleaner that I like but they talked about running a saddle soap down the line. Hope that doesn't muddy the water, but I say it's just fine to use.
Must admit is very complex to size on Red Wing, as they are very inconsistent regarding boot internal length in comparison to the size printed on the label. To give you an example, I've got several pairs of Moc Toe or Iron Ranger labelled all as 11.5 D and the internal length of the boot varies about a 1/4 of an inch, some of them being 29.5 cm long and some of them being 30 cm long. That 0.5 cm - around a quarter of an inch difference, represents in fact a half size. So what's printed on the boot label in regards to the internal boot length might confuse a lot of people and made them think that they are a full size down, but in fact you are wearing a pair labelled 11 D, which in fact is having the internal length of an 11.5 D, as simple as that...!
I mink oil my iron rangers every single time before I wear them, and then when I get home I hit ‘em with the Bick4. Then I put boot trees in em and hang them upside down in a special humidified room I made that has zero sunlight or UV that could potentially dry out the leather. I’m thinking of moving to SE Asia actually, just for the natural humidity. People think leather is made to be tough on its own, but it’s not. You have to apply massive amounts of product to it, or it’s essentially worthless.
Thanks for sharing!! I’ve been in the south the past couple months and plenty of humidity fir me coming from Colorado at 7,500 feet. It’s pretty dry where I’m from
Yo GJ, I have the mocs 8886 and the iron 8111 as my every day boots. The Mocs I have are 11s but like you I should of got 10.5s. I have put insoles in them and after having them for nearly a year thay are the best boot for every day wear. So no problems for me on sizing account once you figure it out. The iron 8111 I have had for just over a month and I've used them about 7 days of wear during this time for about 7 to 8 hours wear.im not sure it because in 56 years old but my feet must be worn in as I have had no problems at all with wearing the boots in. I sized down to a 10.5 for these boots so no insoles needed(as of yet). Nice channel you have, well done. Gazloc, UK.
Cheers from the US mate! Glad you got it sorted, I may need to try a set of insoles in my roughnecks! Thanks for taking the time to watch the video. Catch ya on the next one.
Hey man, appreciate the video. In my country the E width isn’t available so i ordered the D. Would that be an issue ? I measured 11 cm in width at home
The D is pretty roomy, I can't speak for your foot but its seems to lean toward a one size fits most. Hopefully you have a good return policy with the company you ordered from. Try it on while standing on carpet and you should be able to return to most companies. Cheers and really appreciate you watching the channel.
I have 8085 for one year I thought the boots the break in process was done … WRONG 😑 I walked 4 miles yesterday and my feet hurt so bad and new blisters after that …. Damn
Bro just a quick tip: shouldn’t wear them everyday. Need to let the leather rest (like every 2 days of wear let it rest 1 day). Need to let the moisture from your feet out of the boot. I’ve seen cases of rot because of this.
I say that in most every video that’s why I run boot trees and have a couple pair. I recommend guys to have two sets of work boots for that very reason. Glad you see this too!!! Appreciate you watching and sharing this important tip
Funny you say that as I ALWAYS alternate my boots for no specific reason other than like clothing, DON'T like to wear same thing CONSTANTLY. Does make sense though, now that I think about it. Good thing I have LOTS of boots in my arsenal to choose from...
Just a word of warning be careful because they're scrupulous dealers out there that are posing that they're selling Red Wing shoes really cheap and it's a scam so be careful. Their site looks just like Red Wing.
Oh no, that sounds terrible. Always someone out there trying to get ya one way or another. Any specific website or shop? Cheers mate and thanks for the heads up.
An advice for those who are about to buy the black Iron Ranger. Think twice. As I have many tan or brown color boots, I wanted the Black Iron Ranger. Unfortunatly, they are transparent in black, and if black technically goes with any color, the Iron Ranger in black can't match the brown color with blue jeans or any type of Chinos (I have sand color chinos, dark green chinos and a blue one...the brown is nicer on all) in terms of association. This is why you don't see much Iron Ranger in black. It's because they must be brown.
I guess the argument would be how often does a guy buy cheaper boots compared to more expensive less often. Certainly not for everyone though. Thanks for watching!
Old adage applies. Buy once, cry once... What that means is you'll ACTUALLY spend less in the LONG RUN. Also, have a QUALITY product throughout. FYI, you can find some very good deals on aftermarket "slightly" used for a very good discount...
Should have gotten some whites or nicks boots and I would have gotten my whole family to subscribe (I’m Hispanic) like 450+ people on moms side and 1500 on dads side..lol..jk bro get what fits you!
Haha that’s awesome mate! I’d make the trip over to get somebody’s for those subs! 😆🤣 hope you caught our nicks video NICKS BOOTS | Factory Tour and Fitting!! 🥾🥾
Absolutely the most uncomfortable boot I ever wore.. No mid sole so everything-every rock/ bump/ hard surface is transmitted to your feet/skeletal system. Even after break in they will kill your feet. I suggest any other boot that includes a mid sole.
@@GentlemansJourney 1907's. In Rough and Tough. Wear them for six months letting the leather shape to your foot, then put in the leather insoles. Night and day comfort compared to I.R.
Iron Ranger boots look amazing. However between the uncomfortable loose/tight not fitting right fit and the dangerously slick sole these iron ranger boots are about as functional as a screen door on a submarine. What a complete fail in my opinion. $350 for something that is going to be painful for a very long time....not interested. $350 and red wing puts I these absolutely shitty laces. Kinda tells the whole story for me. People STOP paying for things that are uncomfortable, painful, and overall misleading.

Going Saturday to local RW store to look at either IR or blacksmith. Hope they have them in stock in my size?
Can’t go wrong either way! Good on ya man! 🥾🥾
nice boots man, good luck with them! awesome that you are rocking some redbacks!//all the best troutbumandsam
Man good eye! I’m wearing them as we speak. 🥾🥾
great review. sizing was weird for me as well.
Cheers 🥾🥾
I pity the fool who doesn't size down enough and ends up with a sloppy mess of a boot. I'm 10.5 sneaker, 9D Ranger. Same size down as you.
I’m a 10-10.5 in tennis shoes but they sized me up at redwing with the machine at a 9EE. They fit but I got lots of toe room 🤷♂️
You think the 9regular width would have been the go for you? Certainly better than being too tight! 🥾🥾
Glad you got it sorted!! @@eazy_e.7153
I consider the boots being unlined a plus. The leather will form around your foot and ankle better. I have a pair of 875 moc toes from 2016 and I would hate a fabric lining.
That’s great feedback and I’m happy you found the channel. 🥾🥾
Congratulations! Nice video and very informative. Iron Ranger 8111 was my first Red Wing Boots/Heritage Boots. Keep it up.
Thanks for stopping by with a positive comment mate! I hope those 8111’s are treating you well. What else have you added to the collection? 🥾🥾
Great boot have 8085 two pairs love them break in was a little tough but worth it🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing man!! Love em 🇺🇸👍🥾🥾
Only wear them on weekends when I'm out so not fully broke in but I don't know how manyone could hike in them .
Hope you get past that soon! Thanks for watching and I’ll catch ya on the next one. 🥾🥾
Really enjoyed this review and your overall positive vibe. Enjoying your channel!
Thanks a ton! 🤙 quite a few good ones coming soon. 🥾🥾
It’s pretty dry where I’m from
No. You are over conditioning those boots buddy.
I've used combat boots for years without doing anything to them and they are still in one piece
@@c4my819it’s depends on environment
Good video the sole is what puts me off the most being to used to my v100 Nick's lol hard to wear any with less grip
That's exactly it man!! and to think Red Wing missed the boat by coming out with the wedge outsole option and not the v100 option... lol Cheers man
Yo GJ,
I have the mocs 8886 and the iron 8111 as my every day boots.
I sized down to a 10.5 for these boots so no insoles
needed(as of yet).
Nice channel you have,well done.
What pants were you wearing with them?
Levi’s 511 in green! 🥾🥾
Dude are you really asking another man what pants he's wearing?
Great vid! I have to order online. I wear a 10.5 in Thursday Captains. What size would I most likely be in these?
I'd try the exact same size. I think that should be the go for you.
Any discount codes for new customers? 😊
Not on these boots, I wish I had but Red Wing hasn't opened up for that. I have some on other boots.
Just got mine ❤️
Congrats!! 🥾🥾
I wish they brought back the old sole which is more rugged
You're not alone!!
Keep them coming! Thanks brother I love your content; you’re a genuine boot hermano
Really appreciate that mate!! Catch ya on the next one 🥾🥾
Is the copper model and the amber model the same leather?
Different

Man good on you, enjoy and thanks for the sub! 🥾🥾

Iron rangers are great boots so are redbacks own both
Love it man! Happy to say I have them both now 👍👍
Good review as always.
Really appreciate that, gotta love the Iron Rangers! What boots are your go to boots?
I dunno man, I have 6 pairs but after a while (year and half) I only wear my 875 everyday now
I hear ya mate, I have a Red Wing 1907 video coming out soon!🥾🥾
I’m not sure these are really good for winter, my feet get cold in them even in fall sometimes since they are unlined
I’m with you there, I did a review on some L.L. Bean been boots be sure to catch that one!
Bro just a quick tip:
shouldn’t wear them everyday.
Sounds like something a boot manufacturer's marketing team might say. Anyway I will use this when my wife asks why I have another pair of boots😅
Congratulations mate!
Oh mate it was so hard not telling you about these! More to come soon but still on honeymoon mood with these. Hope you are well. Blessings.
I feel like I’m your my friend now 🤪
Without a doubt!! 🤝
Nice work.
Thank a lot mate! What boots are you rocking? 🥾🥾
Great review.
Had a lot of fun on this one, my top boot for 2021! 🥾🥾
I am hesitating between iron and balcksmith
I’m a sucker for the toe cap
I have exactly this type. Great boots, but…no amortization. I hurt my right knee badly. So, put decent insoles to prevent this from happening.😊
Good recommendations! What insoles did you go with? 🥾🥾
hallo, bagaimana saya cara pesan nya ?

What type of oil Mate?
Red wings can be resoled, but they'll never fit right! I've had 3 pairs resoled and each time they were about 1/2 size smaller.... Throwaways!
That's great info and at nothing else something I can emphasize to a cobbler when being resoled. Thanks for watching.
Have a pair of oxblood rangers broken in get a fake tounge to protect original
Heck yeah! Thanks for watching 🥾🥾
Thanks for sharing
My copper Red Wings turned black after 1 month. The company doesn't care. The original color does not last.
What’s your go to boot now?
@@GentlemansJourney was gonna try Nick's, but Drew's is very tempting.
9EE for Me please….
They are great boots 🥾🥾
I don't know how all you guys can afford so many different boots. At $350 a pair these are way out of my reach.
Better jobs maybe ?

My rough and tough boots won't stop shrinking...worst boot ever and the company doesn't seem to care.
Oh no that sucks man, did you get them soaking wet or something?
@@GentlemansJourney no. I live in NYC, ride the subways,..maybe its the ink from my selvedge denim jeans, but it's all over the whole boot.
Did you use trees?
Meh leather, no midsole, very narrow, no wide widths
Fair points! Thanks for watching, head on over to nicks for sure. 🥾🥾
Absolutely the most uncomfortable boot I ever wore.. No mid sole so everything-every rock/ bump/ hard surface is transmitted to your feet/skeletal system. Even after break in they will kill your feet. I suggest any other boot that includes a mid sole.
I’ve had a bit better experience but I’ll admit my Thursday Captains are more comfortable. Thanks for watching! What’s your go to boot now? 🥾🥾
Thanks for your take on these
