Of all car makers that no longer exist, Saab is the one i miss the most!!
same😞
Damn here in Sweden everyone knows not to mess with old Saabs. The tuning potential is huge.
Indeed, I have a pretty rapid old BMW and there is no way that i'll try to roll race any old SAAB or old Volvo either for that matter. They can be very very fast and embarass quite a few cars..
Saab sold out when they were just restyled Vauxhalls sadly. I'd love an 80's 900 Turbo S though....
We're living these on the East Coast from NYC to DC to RVA to NC To ATL to FL
@@toku30 What does this even mean? 🤣
@@tjallaballa If only the transmissions where as strong as the engines.
He has to be the most chilled person to ever drive the ring
Exactly my thoughts. Most laidback ring drive ever.
Aka boring
He is right that once you experience a Saab, your impression changes. It's a fever. A couple years ago I needed a cheap car, quickly. I found a '95 Saab 900S convertible in my price range. I bought it. Since then, I've bought two more--a '00 9-3 base and a '01 9-3 SE. Now I have what I call a Swedish full house: 3 Saabs and 2 Volvos. Love.
Yeah deffinetly right, i have always been a hardcore Volvo fan but when i legally could practice driving on public roads i got to drive my parents 9-3 and since then i became more and more interested in Saabs and ecpecially 9-3 wagons😀
My mother personally have never liked Saabs, my dad was the one buying her the cars. A few broke often and a few were the most reliable car ever, hehe.
She doesn't talk positive things about them, but, the one thing that she loves about them is how damn comfortable they are to drive.

Wonderful. I have a 2005 9-3 Aero with factory Hirsch Stage 2 upgrade; ecu, injectors, downpipe, full stainless exhaust, intercooler. It makes 252hp and 380Nm and is ridiculously fast. It’s now on 157k but runs like clockwork. A wonderful car.
My factory hirsh 93 made 274 bhp on dyno with read out
Are you talking about 9-3 aero 2.0T
Lets GOOOOO Saab Gang Represent. Saab's are slept on
True
I have a 07 Saab aero 2.8 t. Have a stage 1 tune on it. Super fun car
I have a 08 9-5 2.3T fully forged, Aut with paddle shift

Top Gear made a good tribute to Saab where they explain about the history
and as usual with Top Gear, it is inaccurate :-P
@@tocsa120ls there was enough truth to be informative yet entertaining 🙄
Top Gear... its even worse than wikipedia
That review was hyperbole at it's finest.
I own this exact year and model, had it high-end tuned, not even all they way, got new shocks, rotors, tires and breaks. All aluminum exhaust and expanded intake. It’s a rocket. It’s an Audi killer. Makes them really, really mad, muscle cars too. Fits me like an iron man suit. I LOVE IT. SAAB FOR LIFE.
Had the previous model to this one, 9-3 Aero. It had the most amazing seats, so comfortable and the mid range punch was awesome.
Back in the day people kept crashing into my dad's Saab 99 while it was parked or stopped at lights etc, and each time the other cars were seriously damaged or written off, but the Saab hardly suffered a scratch. Then he explained it to me "when you have an accident with a Saab, the 'crumple zone' is the other vehicle 😄
Saab always a misunderstood and underrated brand here in England. Shame because they made damn good cars. Tristan seems like a really sound bloke, excellent racing team mate. His chat about taking it easy reminded me of driving very long and heavy vehicles (double decker coaches), every braking and turning point as crucial as when sending a go kart round track. It’s all driving. Smooth is fast but slow is a great way to perfect your smoothness. Looking forward to more chats with Tristan. Thanks for taking us along on the ride 👍🏻
What? In Saab's largest European market the cars were, "a misunderstood and underrated brand"? I don't think so.
I bought a Saab 9-3 Aero last Saterday. I'm also in love with it.
Some guy was selling a 9-3 in my area on marketplace. After all the positive reviews and the fact that it was fully loaded for 3,000 because he was moving, I tried everything I could to get I contact with the guy. To this day I still shed a tear and put my hand on the window of my new car with every 9-3 I pass.
Great cars until they have an electrical issue, which is almost every day lmao. My buddy had a 9-5 and that thing spent more time on a back of a tow truck than the actual road. But god damn was that an amazing car
Saab... Man I miss the engineering of Saab.
Quirky and curse filled but awesome at the same time.
isnt this car basically vectra c? I would buy this car but myb diesel for every day. Its fiat jtd diesels, and turbo petrols are like in vectra 150, 175 and 200hp?
@@BJN87M In some ways yes, they share a platform but only about 1/3 of parts. Engine is also a Saab design (trionic 7), not sure if corsa has the exact same engine but they are very different cars anyway.
@@BJN87M Don't say that ever again, its a much nicer and a safer car than Vectra althoguh they share some components
@@wrongwheeldrive9605 This generation only used the ecotec engines (unless the V6) so T8, not the proper old Saab engines.
Well Saab AB is still bring some of that in their military products :)
I always wanted a Saab top gear did a great piece on them years ago. How GM got annoyed because they were given a Vectra told rebody it and they changed so much of the car because it wasn't to their standards. They even bought parts off GM competitors to make the 93 better.
I always try to drive one last lap right before the track closed. Admiring the view/sun that the Nordschleife gives you. It's just great!
As if your saying the most by saying nothing; a heartfelt goodbye.
It's amazing how much of a thrill a Saab gives. I have a 9-3 and I had to have a 9-5 Aero too! Love them!
I just got a 9-3 all stock , any recommendations for upgrades?

Back when I was 21/22 I had one of these and everyone would ask if it was my Dads car, but I loved it!
Nice video. But all facts were wrong :) Saab 9-3 is based on Opel Vectra with rear axel from Astra. But GMs plan was to just re-badge the Vectra but Saab changed almost every part.
Yeah, last 9-5 was Insignia based.
Thanks, someone else pointed out the holes in my memory. Thanks for fact checking, honestly these things I had to bring up from memory. Now we know!
This 2004 9-3 has front and rear axels from a Vectra-c. And there is nothing wrong with that😎 astra’s from that era don’t have Independent rear suspension.
@@Gummers1982 the rear axle is not the same as in the vectra, the vectra never had the re-axis system (basically a steerable rear axle), it was saab engineered
The thing about Saab is that they were way ahead of the times. They had little quirky features and options which no one was thinking about back then. Saab sensonic transmission for example. Numerous other things.
Loved my 9000 turbo. 3mpg at worst 21mpg overal. Tyres every 6000. Loved it.
I went form Maine US to Indiana, loaded with 4 rim/tires in the back with the air compressor chairs tools etc etc .. Track Day at Putnam Park for the Saab Owner convention... that was a hellofva trip... 32 MPG doing 70-90 mph the whole way out and back... 14mpg on the track and cooked those tires I brought... ;) ... let alone the poor boiling brake fluid..
I am a Saab owner and have been waiting for a lap in a Saab! Thanks very much!!
I actually own 2
A 1999 9-5 SE SEDAN
A 1976 99 EMS COUPE
When I got married I drove a 96. Had a 99 planned but the owner mistook some dates and wasn’t able to lend me his 99. Had to find a different beauty asap. The 96 was gorgeous.
@@Tristan.R.J.M those early Saabs are so nice. Great lines and as always wonderfully quirky. I am hoping to get a Sonnet III some day. So glad to see the lap in your 9-3. Thanks for sharing!
@@davidsmall7676 thank Misha. He kept insisting I should do one.
@@Tristan.R.J.M I had to rewatch the lap. What is so wonderful is the lack of drama. You could sense the speed but without any whoopsies. You weren’t fighting to keep the car’s momentum working for you.
Can’t wait for your summer setup and the next lap.
@@davidsmall7676 now you’re making me all excited man. 😂
I have been driving a 2006 saab 9-3 since 2016
I have been using my vehicle with the same excitement and pleasure since the first day I bought it. I have also used different vehicles during this period. but none of them gave the excitement and pleasure of Saab. I think that if Saab was producing cars today, we would be driving marvellous vehicles.
I just got a stock 9-3, any recommendations for upgrades?
My sister's friend, very spoiled girl, driving in her fast and powerfull Infinity. Sister said once she came over wery upset. She said some little ugly car overtook her from the traffic light so quickly, she only memorized wierd model name: "9000"...

I had a 2001 Saab and a 2008 Infiniti ~ guess which one could hit (GPS verified) 155mph
I miss my old 9-3 Aero convertible 😭. Thanks for the awesome video
I own a 9-3 convertible from 1998. I’ve owned it for 10 years and probably spent more on fixing it up to a state this is close to new and then some than what I bought it for. I love it to bits and someone will have to pry it from my dead cold hands. Will.never.sell.it.
Wow, that’s a lot of knowledge about Saabs Tristan. He definitely need to get some new tires mate. And I loved the bit about the yellow headlights.😂😂😂 great video guy’s.
Thanks Andrew!
I have a 2006 9-3 Aero 2,8t and I love it, great car. Big fan of Saabs in general. :D
I also have a 2000 9-5 i use for trackdays now, it was my first car so don't want to get rid of it, i really care for it tbh, special place in my heart since I've always loved cars and it was my first one. What better way to keep it around than upgrading it and enjoying it on tracks :-)
Real shame they're not around anymore but oh well. Fans keep them around and will do so for a long time.
Every time I talk about cars with my dad, one of the companies my dad talks about is Saab and I show him the sale of Saab cars on Cars & Bids! I have to show him as he really liked Saab.
I miss SAAB - the real one, before GM.
can tell one loves his saab when he has iceblock lights swapped in.
I swear sometimes the most boring cars can be the most interesting, amazing video, and pretty cool car if you ask me.
Always had a soft spot for this brand. Before everything was turbocharged they surprised quite a few with the midrange.
Impressed with the Saab; more impressed with Tristan however, dude is a 'Saab' himself. Seems a genuinely nice guy that one can count on 😸 (loved his self dig and general approach). Some say Tristan lapped the GP track in his Aero and set a 04'20 though this did include his signature 360 on track 😎
haha thanks Mike
My buddy has a 2004 Arc and he sits the exact same way in his saab when driving. He is also attempting to make it to the moon and back (in miles)
I had a 1980 Saab 900 Turbo, it did everything well. A fantastic winter car. 😀👍
YEAH love saab ! we want a flat out lap with this one ! Thanks a lot misha for the work !
You have the same goal as me, million km 👍Saab has always been a well-respected brand in Finland and there are still a lot of cars on the roads. Hopefully from this forever.
Love the Saab brand . Had a 95 and it was a superb car . Good video. Thanks
Man I miss Saab so much
I hoped that Tristan will finally floor it till the very end :)
I wasn't d completely disappointed :))
True sleepers especially when tuned
Here in America, almost everyone in the tuning scene thinks Saabs are just slow and for old people. I think if they knew about the huge potential for tuning you would see more Saabs out on the street racing, and as being a Saab owner I can say that they are pretty quick and are not o be messed with.
Well they are slow for american standards where there are more and more 1000hp cars cruising around
i loved my saab named paul from the first time i test drived it before buying. it is just a special feeling from the first moment.
In fact Saab even reworked all the stuff they got from vauxhall and GM since they never thought it was good enough.
That's a great video. Thanks for sharing. he's such a chill guy.
Nice vid! I have a Saab 9000 turbo in my garage and I enjoy it every time I drive with it.
The 2003 to 2009 9-3 sits on the GM’s ”vectra” chassis and i think its one of the best fwd chassis ever on any sedan and with that gorgeus B207r it is the best fwd ever.
I agree with you. b207 L/R are Saab's best engines. they do not fail. spare parts are easy to find.
Ahh the SAAB- episode from the good old Top Gear. I'm so gonna dig it up now!!
Thats so fun to watch. Its like watching myself in the video. Got the same car. Different tune and parts but yes, saab is just different. Here in switzerland i feel like i'm the only one that modified his saab. But its fun watching them bmw drivers face when they recognize this saab is fuck them up.
I also have a maptuned saab - they are an absolute pleasure to drive, and they were ahead of their time! RIP!
Fuck yes, literally yesterday I brought a Saab 9-5 estate, and I love it so much
Can't wait to get started making it MY OWN!
Congrats! Have fun!
I miss my 900S. That engine note takes me back.
Very cool episode. We would like more SAAB action, please.
P.S. I totally agree, BMW used to be much more "analog"/involving in driving back in the day.
A few years ago I had to do body repairs to a lot of Saabs because a local gentleman loved them and also sold them, I had the pleasure of driving a few of them for like 5 kilometers to his property but in those 5 kilometers I was pleasantly surprised, although they arent that exciting looking cars to me they drive fenomenal and are among the most comfortable cars I've driven so far. It's a shame they arent made anymore.
LOVED Tristan's "It's so zen" 😇🥰
thanks a lot 🙏🙏🙏 and the impressive Cupholder Trick. Please more content
What a wholesome lap!
Same as mine - remapped to 260bhp
with Maptune exhaust 👌
There used to be a guy in my area who had a Saab 9-3 diesel estate. It was definitely tuned/modded because it was fast AF
My neighbor has a 1000hp saab😳 and there is other guy in my area Who has/had a Saab 9-3 wagon with a viper v10🙂
From what I understand NEVS is doing pretty well. It's 9³ is considered to be very nice. The lack of info seems to come from it only being available in China so pretty much none of them get out.
I am at my 5th Saab now. And I came back to the brand also because it invites the driver to be civilized. Even if you have plenty of power to enjoy, which you'll do in the right moment.
Please do another video with the Aero when you have the new tyres and on it. They are torque steer monsters 👍
Hehe, hahaha! Especially with 400Nm
It was such a shame when GM purchased Saab. It’s like they bought them to crush them 😥 ammiright?
Lutz, was the last real CEO of GM, before him, and after him with O's administration forcing them to accept bailout money and overhand control. GM, has been solely profit driven, and a union labor cash cow. Without Lutz, or Bowling Green, or the people that was hired under Lutz? I believe that GM would of continued to push the entire world of automotive into a soulless oblivion.
Saab pretty much crushed themselves.
Tires are the OG BeNeLux spec😂 nice, chill lap!
Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
I own the same car.
This car needs grippy summer tires and then it will be difficult not to fall in love with it.
They’re in my garage. But german laws combined with freezing temperatures at night made me not want to change them yet. Wich tires did you run in the summer?
What a nice guy to go for a lap with :D
Totally get the Saab love.
A good friend let me drive his lightly tuned 9-5 Aero Wagon on a long trip a few years back, while he was driving his motorcycle.
Of course I couldn't quite keep up with him, but I was way more comfortable for sure, and it definitely cornered better than his bike :P
For sure wouldn't mind owning one!
The Saab 9-3 2.8 V6 Aero is a wonderful car. I have an esstate car. It's fast, good looking and has a lot of features. With it's passive stearing axle in the back the Saab is very quick and safe in corners. I love it. 👍🏻🥳
Oh no, this is opening old wounds. I had two 9-3 ( one Aero, both tuned ). and I miss them.
Nice to see the 9-3 on the Ring! I recently bought a 2004 9-3 Aero for $750.00 USD with 185,000 miles on her. Everything still works well (except OnStar of course) and I drive her daily without issue. I am so impressed with how well the car is engineered, its really something.
Great car, great lap! Owned two 9-3's myself, really nice cars even with high mileage. Now driving a digital ;) BMW. Looking forward to do a relaxed lap like you this summer. Misschien tot dan!

Wait til you drive a tuned v6 2wd stickshift, a tuned OG9-5(2.3) or a Viggen!
The ecotec 4 has great pull, but the others are progressively better.

Tristan - a smooth criminal - scratch that - a chill criminal
I have never been able to drive a Saab Aero with out rubber marbles being left behind ... but I lay on the Volvo side of the Swedish tracks ... so there is that ... Look forward to the ZEN Noris Race Team Logo ... “never drive in anger ... things will get broken” Staying Tuned!
Hahaha! My summertires at the front usually don’t last for a bit more than one season. Might do 1.5 season. This thing(let’s blame the car) eat’s fronts. But hey, smiles per gallon....
The guy there ovned Spyker.
Sold Spyker in his attemt so save SAAB.
And after he lost all, someone made The Electric version to The Chinees market.
It’s also true that Koenigsegg were close to buy it, But The Sweedish gorverment would not garantie for The sale.
The Americans ruined The brand with putting SAAB signs on there own models, But The SAAB ingeneers would not accept The bad quality.
If they have developed a new pure SAAB, it maybe have survived.
Sorry my bad spelling, i dont feel good today and are to tired to translate a lot of words.
Are there please a Sweedish there will tell The full storie.

Nice one for bringing one of the nicest brands ever, GM just got very pissed of when they saw the last 9-5 because to be honest the insignia just looks light years away. It was mentioned that they went to a detail that very few even dare to go there, but the problem was GM property and they had to justify some absurd costs, especially when the group had financial problems and plus in a recovery situation wanting some solid results which didn't happen. A real shame they didn't find a proper investor like Volvo did, I reckon it would be better in nowadays. However they failed with Opel again, which is PSA so I wonder if that strategy was really good 🤔. They drowned completely in Europe and went back to their home country.
Great SAAB story!

I drove the SAAB 9000 Aero. I did haded a compitation with a Porsche 911 turbo 3.6. In all speed situation was my SAAB 9000 Aero (Original) faster than the Porsche 911 turbo. Until the on top speed is breaked from a speed limiter by 255 kilometer to a hour.
My father in law has got one. Unfortunately it is automatic with lpg, so it is more boring than death. However you can drive it a fortnight non-stop. So if you want a living room with wheels and decent handling/braking it does the job right... 😊
I love my Saab 9-5, but unfortunately the rust from all the salt and brine we use has taken a heavy toll. 200k miles and just regular maintenance and wear items. Never any recurring problems draining my bank account. Amazing cars.
One of my life regrets is that I was not able to get the 9-3 when I was getting the car. I love my C70, but still. That was probably the last chance to really do it at a realistic time... I have considered getting the 9-5NG recently, but... It was great when it came out, but by now, I need things like adaptive cruise control - which, if I am not mistaken, they managed to put in a grand total of 17 cars...
Maybe one day I'll get a 900 turbo...
By the way, the 9-3NG was based on Vectra, the 9-5NG is Insignia base. Also, between GM and NEVS, it was briefly owned by Spijker. They are actually who brought out 9-5NG, but GM was being difficult. If they weren't, Saab could have done a Volvo...
PS. Rituals... Nice.

jajaja, I still have 2 saabs.... one of them similar of this, Saab 9-3ss 2.0t MY2003, Maptun Stage 7+, 325bhp, 450nm, AP racing brakes, quaife LSD, bilstein shocks and other goodies... really really good car to drive and enjoy, I love the car and no intention to sell it, instead I do not use much now, due my daily being a c43 amg 2020.
The 9-3ss used the Epsilon platform, developed big part by Saab, and the Epsilon II developed for the Insignia and the last 9-5, for instance big part was also developed by Saab, for instance all the Hiperstrut design was a Saab development. All turbo tech it's been always a huge asset in Saab. It's a big shame that nowadays what Saab always worked hard and was well known, like turbo, safety, environmently etc.. that no everybody looks at now the brand it's gone.
The Infotainment system plus, Is the top of the level from 2003 to 2006, it was so expensive to manage and mantain with the fiber option it was changed in 2007 model with a generic GM one with no fiber optic cabling. The whole electronic units connects to the Infotainment system in the back, it acts as a Hub, if you want to change the radio you must mantain that unit, the radio unit it's below where the CD changer is.
Not much of a problem for us in America.
Hi bro good to know that you still have your Saabs. It's been a long time. How is it in Spain?
I miss my 9-3. I had the full Abbot Racing package on it - suspension and steering. I got an E36 M3 after that, and it felt really wallowy - plus it had no room in it.
Would have never thot I’d see a Saab being reviewed by Misha lol
