When I was 16 Aldo bought a house near me and one day he came into the little pizza place where I was having lunch and I knew who he was and asked him to sit with me for a slice. He was very polite and talked to me about guitars as I played guitar as well. I will never forget that day. Cheers Aldo.
Interestingly (and true), my friend's uncle gave him guitar lessons to improve his playing early 80s. It was in Montreal where I am from. Aldo made it big, but not his instructor.
My cousins friend sold his girlfriend’s friend weed, and then she sold it to Aldo !!! He was cool about it, loved his big pyramid bong he got from his buddy’s nephew’s stepsister’s uncle.
Same. You just didn't have songs that opened with sci-fi movie sound effects back then. Aldo really created the possibility for a whole new genre with this song. I can only remember this one and "monkey", then he just kind of disappeared. Great to see him back up there melting faces.
One day in the 80’s, I turned on MTV and saw this video. Then I saw it like every 28 minutes for like 3 weeks. Not that I’m complaining. It was certainly better than Video Killed the Radio Star😂😂
Is true. Not just this song, but on most of his albums with just a touring band when on the road. Along with his solo career, Aldo Nova is a respected studio musician that can play about any instrument there is. He continued to find steady work even after his solo career cooled off as he is just that talented of a musician. This was a pleasant surprise when it popped up as recommended. He still looks and sounds great!
"OHH HELL YEAH"!!! I can still remember the first time I heard this killer tune on FM rock radio, and I immediately went to my local record store called Butterfly Records (which no longer exists these days, so now I go to Ft Wayne Indiana, about 30 minutes away), but anyhoo, I bought this album, and yes, on cassette, it was during the 80's, but I still think that the whole album kicks ass, and so does the one that followed, Subject, Aldo Nova!!! And the other couple or so I thought were good as well, but the first two were definitely his best!!! And that dude can definitely play some mean killer guitar too!!! A lot of the best rock and metal music comes from Canada people!!! Ernie Wilber 🤘👹🤘✌️
I was sitting in the opposite endzone in The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA back in the summer of 1982. I was stationed in San Diego for school in the Navy that summer. Some friends and I caught a bus to Pasadena to see Journey on the Escape tour. When the show started, I heard that familiar helicopter sound and all of the keyboard FX. It was so loud and crazy. I knew exactly who it was. It was of course Aldo Nova. What a great show! I will never forget it!
My band Crossmember opened with this song in 1984 at most of our gigs. We even used it when we opened for Motorhead that year. Fun times. We're on You Tube
1980ish … Saw a triple bill at the Paramount Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Missing Persons, Aldo Nova (wearing a ridiculous leopard print cat-suite w/ tucked-in white boots) and headlining was an Aussi band called Angel City. Rockin’ good night!
Ha lol that leopard skin spandex must of had a profound effect on your young mind son, here it is 45 years later and you can still recall it vividly ..well terrasculp?? Did it effect you deeply?? Man I miss those days where artist were free to express themselves freely...we had great music and movies at that time .
I was there as well, Missing persons was just weird, robot girl....I saw Angel city 3x, they were great! Now the " Howling Schnauzer" which is not very nice to call Arlene Schnitzer but the old paramount days were awesome!
I also saw that show. I saw them at Bader Field in Atlantic City. It was BOC, Aldo Nova, and the Dixie Dregs. It was so freaking hot that day, people were passing out left and right.
My very first ever Rock Concert way back in 1982 in high school was Aldo Nova, Cheap Trick and AXE on the same ticket. So, Aldo holds a special place for me! Love all his albums.
If you notice his Les Paul has an explorer neck with 6 tuners on the one side, he got Gibson to do that for him to fix the tuning instability inherent with the 3 on 3 headstock.
@HelmutHare they built that guitar using an explorer neck blank that was likely shaped similar to the radius profile of a Les Paul and they cut the fret markers in like an LP. You don't just change the headstock. I can't recall if it was an article I read or a video I watched. Gibson made this for Aldo Nova as his signature Les Paul back in the day they are very rare Rick Nelson from Cheap Trick has 2 of them. If memory serves me I think there were 6 in total made however it's been a long time since I knew about this.
I like his Les Paul Standard with the Gibson Explorer headstock. He chose this headstock because it wound stay in tune better that the traditional Les Paul headstock. The strings go straight to the tuning keys without any sharp turns from the nut to the keys. The only others Aldo Nova signature guitars like this, Rick Neilson, of Cheap Trick, owns them all.
I think the reason why he did it like that was because it looks cool. I own both Les Paul's and explorers and it is not true about the tuning stability. Especially to make a custom guitar around it. Rick wants his guitar because he thinks they're cool. It has nothing to do with tuning stability. Keep the nut cut properly and lubricated and you will never have an issue. Also lower angle on the explorer headstock has a much lower string tension and can cause the string to stick in the nut more often.
@ I’m only comment something that I hear from the actual owner of the guitars. There is an interview where Aldo Nova himself, mentions the tuning issue. But you’re right. With the correct methods you mention, you will not have tuning issues. 🎸🤘🏼👍🏻
@@luisvillarreal5262 its all good! they had one on reverb for sale. someone bought it for $14,500 USD. there must be more made cause this guy says it was not ricks or aldos.

I' was station in ft Carson Colorado and I' heard this kickass guitar song Fantasy by Aldo Nova it was playing all over in the summer of 1982 then i' bought the album the whole album it's awesome!!! Kicks ass but fantasy became a global mega hit!! But the disappointing sad thing about it is that he never got the recognition should had and deserved!!! For!!! It ain't fair!!!
Whoever arranged it and kept extending the guitar solo did a horrific job. It sounded good not great but once the solo should have went into the pre chorus, it was the same as showing up for a date and your date looked like it just came out of the grave and you wanted to scream and crap yourself. PS throw the toilet paper at the band. This was beyond bad. This was worse then weird Al covering like a surgeon.

Love it, hard to believe at his age he still has the energy, chops, and vocal ability. The USA loves you Aldo.

He married my mom’s friends daughter….dedicated a song to her on subject album. Met him once. He was cool.

When this song came out, I was blown away! Today, I'm still blown away because in 2024 it still maintains its heavy groove and superior level of cool.

I have listened to this song since it first came out! Aldo Nova wrote a classic!!

Whats so cool about Aldo,That he played all the instruments on the recording and engineered it.
I wasn't aware of that. Like Wolfgang Van Halen . Learned something new thank you.

Well, they’re not using backing tracks and this is what a tired touring band’s voices sound like. It’s real people.
How crowded was the Whiskey? They sound good. This guy should have been much bigger IMO.
