      It took me back 25 years, almost felt like I was sitting at a console when I first learned about it back in 2010. They've come quite a way's to Mixbus 10 pro. Lots of folks didn't believe it sounded different but that's been proven wrong. If I want to get a quick mix I'll throw it in Mixbus 10 have everything staged, level balanced, compressed and eq'ed in 10 to 15 minutes, giving me way more time to be creative with my mixing and 3D sound scaping of the story.
      Oh wait, I meant song!

    Great video - thanks!
    Your export from the ProTools session - do you export the raw (no FX) audio…?

    • @musicalthingsstudio
      @musicalthingsstudio  7 місяців тому +1

      That particular session was exported from Pro Tools meaning raw. Sometimes I get sessions that have been bounced which preserves the plug-ins. I'll bounce after final approval and to mastering. Sometimes I'm asked for both exported and bounced files.

    Thanks for the video. The demo is unlimited but you will hear some white noise every few minutes. Glad you like the software and looking forward to more videos.

    Really like the console style look & workflow of Mixbus. And it does sound warm and full of analog character!

    I use Logic Pro . Will this be useful for me? Will it enhance the tone of the tracks? Does it have its own built in effects?

    • @musicalthingsstudio
      @musicalthingsstudio  3 місяці тому +2

      Logic Pro is a very good DAW! Look at how much music is produced with it.
      How useful for you is entirely in your hands with the skills you have for producing. You could be in the finest studios in the world with the best of everything at your disposal but if you don't get tracking right nothing will help.
      Will MixBus 10 help enhance the tone of your tracks? That's a slippery slope to climb, so many variables to navigate.
      I use MixBus as a tone monster on certain genres. Some artist swear it sounds like a real console and request MixBus. Their inspired and the juice just flows. Maybe it's a visual thing, Maybe they are hearing subharmonics that MixBus might have? Honestly I couldn't tell you. I know they like it and it helps the project track easier.
      Yes MixBus 10 Pro has plugins and effects that come with it, they work and sound good are simple and I have used them with no issues. One of my most used EQ's is Harrison Mastering EQ totally awesome!
      Get the tracking right and you can coax some great tone from any DAW.
      I hope this helps.

    why would you put the effects after the fader?

    • @musicalthingsstudio
      @musicalthingsstudio  5 місяців тому +2

      Really depends on effect and how I'm dealing with the track in the mix. Compression I usually go pre fader, most of the time I'm compressing on the way in then I'll usually go post fader with EQ another compressor if needed. Pre fader allows me to have some control of effects if I'm going to do parallel processing of that track. EG.. I have a send to a reverb for the track and I don't want the EQ or other effects I have on inserts of the track to be sent to the reverb effects send,
      I would go pre fader pre effects and that would only send the clean channel to the send reverb. About 90% of the time any reverb I use has an EQ after it.
      If I'm post fader all inserts on channel and any sends I have for that channel will have everything on that channel being sent. On a vocal track I might want to use a reverb post fader on the insert of the track to use early reflections to bring vocals forward but I would want that early reflection reverb going to my reverb send so it keeps it's place in the mix.
      Hope that helps.

      You can use plugins (or sends) in the post-fader that would behave consistently with the balance you have already established among the tracks.
      For example, if you want a plugin that saturates more the more loudness you feed it. So if your lead vocal is louder than the backing vocals the plugin will saturate more on it. If you put the sends pre-fader you would have to redo the balance in the send amount. Sorry for my poor English. I hope I expressed myself well enough.

    is there a way to re-name your i/o?

    • @musicalthingsstudio
      @musicalthingsstudio  8 місяців тому

      Great question. I've been told in their forum it was something Harrison is working on for all their supported OS . If using macOS you can create an Aggregate device and rename I/O labels. The labels appear in Mixbus. Some folks use Jack in macOS to rename I/O's.
      I haven't found an OS based solution in WIN. I use a lot of RME gear and Total Mix FX allows renaming all i/o's but it doesn't show in MixBus as the naming scheme I use. I have submitted a support request to Harrison about this when they answer I'll post it with a reply here. If I find a way I will do a video on it.

      Received a response from Nathan at Harrison You can rename inputs on the Rec page by clicking on the input number and renaming it. Renaming outputs is not possible at this time.

    Mixbus is a fantastic DAW. I also use Nuendo 13, Studio One 5, Samplitude Pro X 5, Reason and Abelton Live 12. I have spend most of my time in Mixbus. Not just mixing, but doing entire projects. Some people have complained about doing this in Mixbus but I have had no problems doing so. I have had incidents where I've stared in Studio One or Nuendo because I've wanted to use ARA 2 with Melodyne or Revoice Pro as Mixbus does not yet utilize ARA 2 but I'm sure that's coming as well. Mixbus 10 Pro is a fantastic product. Keep it going, Harrison.
