I literally had this conversation in my head yesterday, except, I want to quit my corporate job. I used to think that I could fully focus on youtube only once I had an income that could be considered sustainable (at least for rent) but I slowly realized that my tolerance to put up with institutions and people who are not aligned with my vision is closer to zero lately and I am entering my "f everyone I am doing what I want and I will make it work" era. Also, I believe people really like you for who you are so having a niche can help you with coming up with content ideas but ultimately, YOU are the reason why people are coming back, don't overthink it. Excited for this new journey of yours! Can't wait to see more 🌟
Corporate feels financially secure until you get laid off twice in a row 😅 going out on your own is scary, but at least you get more control in the long run. If you ever decide to leave I'll be the first in line to congratulate you hehe
I quit my corporate job last September and it was the best decision I ever made. I was procrastinating with my copywriting course because I had my corporate job as a back up plan and wasn’t putting enough time and effort into my copywriting business. I decided to quit and jump into copywriting full time. My body was rejecting the corporate route and it took me 2 years to find the courage to leave. Over this last year, I started my copywriting business, improved my copywriting skills and got my first paying clients. I’ve learned a lot about running my own business. Found the courage to start posting about my journey on LinkedIn and I’m happier than I’ve ever been. Congrats on your engagement Wesley and enjoy your travels! Excited for your channel next year ❤
I've been laid off 2x as well. Every corporate job I've had since graduating college, I was laid off from. It's triggering, I never feel safe. Glad you're turning your lemons into lemonade bc yeah it really sucks sometimes. I think you'll do great! Never seen your channel before this video but you seem great!
And old people wonder why we're not having kids. It's crazy b/c I always thought I was unlucky as a Millenial, but now I'm looking at Gen Z and they look like they have it even worse!
I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for your content, transparency, vulnerability, honesty, and courage. It's truly refreshing to see someone who is unafraid to share their genuine self and experiences with the world. I'm so glad to have discovered you, and I find your authenticity incredibly inspiring. In a world where so many online personalities present themselves as gurus or flaunt material wealth, it's a breath of fresh air to follow someone like you. Your willingness to be open and real is a rare and valuable gift, and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to watch some of your videos on this first day of the year. Thank you for being a beacon of authenticity and for sharing your journey with us. Wishing you continued success and fulfillment in all that you do. Warm regards, Alex
you are so talented, I have absolutely no doubt you'll continue to flourish no matter what direction life takes you and this channel. as cliché as it sounds, everything happens for a reason. can't wait to see what's next for you in 2024! and congrats to you & Alby!! ✨
Thanks a billion for making this video. This is my first time seeing your channel and it just randomly popped up on my feed but all of your points hit home. You spoke so eloquently about your fears and feelings and this is so relatable. Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing. It’s not easy to go out there and say these things to the masses. I’m excited to see your channel grow and you’ve got yourself a new subscriber! 🖤 Lots of love to you
I'm looking forward to seeing your channel grow. I'm also on the same path and I'm going to go all in with my UA-cam channel (not this account) in 2024 while working on the side. Don't let any self-doubt slow you down. I remind myself all the time that there are UA-camrs who could have started a channel 10 years ago and have gotten a large following by now but they waited. We're not going to wait until 2034 to go all in! The time is now. You being laid off is a blessing in disguise. Also, your honesty and candid moments are the best parts of your channel... so you should definitely harness that in the future. Best of luck!
you got this!!! I really resonate with this internal conflict...everyday I think of how much I hate corporate America and my job lol but I'm not sure what to do about it. I'm glad you have that little (but getting louder) voice in your head pushing you toward a clear interest, passion, goal, etc. have so much fun in asia -- yes to muy thai vlogs -- be safe, eat good, and have fun! always rooting for you, even from 3k miles away
Thank you for sharing all the vulnerability with us and walk us through your thinking process. It takes so much gut to do so. I have always been inspired by your content and courage and hope your new journey will go smoothly. Sending mental support from Finland❤.
No, this is literally me right now! I also have ADHD and comment issues. That said, I always think of UA-cam as a part-time job or procrastinate most of the time to create content. I've been unemployed for 6 months now. It takes so much effort to create content and its processes. I'm also trying to be more consistent and post once a week here. Good luck to us!
I’m so happy I stumbled upon your video. Thank you for sharing your working journey. I can relate to much of your frustration. I’ve been laid off several times from sales jobs in banking, none due to performance. Corporate America isn’t where I belong, but earning a living took priority over happiness. I’ve taken at least two jobs I wasn’t enthusiastic about, and paycuts, just to stay employed. I lost a flexible recruiting job last February and still can’t find work. I just turned 50 and recruiters always compliment my experience, but still pass. I’m struggling terribly and feel that the rejection is a push to start my own business. I decided to become a broker for the state. I’m constantly doubting my decision to stop looking for work, because getting clients is a slow go due to hippa laws. I have faith this will work out, even though it’s not a fast start. You are never too old to reinvent yourself.
It is so interesting, I almost feel like the traditional corporate job market as we know it is slowly going away. My parents called me this week saying 'we read about lay offs, you should really look for a job' - which kind of makes no sense to me, if corporate jobs are so uncertain, maybe we are right to seek stability somewhere else.
Literally my biggest fear right now is being laid off since I'm pretty much all on my own and don't have much to fall back on but this made me feel better and reminded me that I should still push forward with my dream of being a full time youtuber. Thanks for sharing!
I got laid off from tesla 4/15..had 2k subs, then posted 1 video about being laid off and now have 20k subs! And now i work FT at GNC and do UA-cam part time fully monetized!
I’m excited to see your growth both personal and the channel. Hopefully it will inspire me to pursue paths of my own and go astray from the ones I’m on now!
sounds like the universe is fully supporting you into diving into your next path and to getting more connected to your true self. thanks for sharing this and how awesome that you made the decision to choose YOU! happy new year!
Wesley !!!!!!!! When you said "lifestyle design"... I got chills. You are clearly on the right path and have a VERY valuable skill set. To be able to integrate design and apply it to everyday life like that?!?!?!?! Priceless. I found your channel when I was searching videos on how to use Notion, and your tips were literally *revolutionary* in me reorienting my life and how I approach my goals. I'm very excited for you and inspired by you and I mean that with all of my fire sign heart 💛🔥🌟✨️⚡️you're so down to earth too, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you're doing next! 💛 ken (she/her)
I found your channel last week because of your notion videos and I loved your way of talking and the vibe of the videos. I really think you have an incredible job to make on UA-cam and wish you the best luck! ❤
hey girl, sorry to hear about your lay off but i think its definitely a sign for you to pursue content creation because you're killing it! without looking at your sub count, i would've thought you had 500k+ ; anyway good luck & rooting for ya ✨
Congratulations on saying 'yes' - both to carving out your own business and to your future husband. It's always nice to see people's lives taking a turn for the better and their hopes being realized.
Had the same thoughts. I left my job for a very big offer in another state in July 2021. I quit my last job I had worked for 4 years that was recession proof to start this new job…I got laid off January 2023 from the tech bust, in the process I stayed a business. I ended up getting another job in April 2023 and lost it in October 2023. I have now moved back to my home state and considering going back to my old job I left and feeling so ashamed. I have been unemployed ever since and just focusing on my small business that has been moving slowly and growing and I want to start content creation about my business. I realised that the road to success isn’t a straight path, learned a lot in 2023 about this and no longer ashamed. I really do wish you the best.
I really struggle when I am in a job, working for someone. It’s just so hard because it makes me feel stuck in a box and I don’t want to be in a job for 20 years especially if someone else will be able to control whether I am in the same position or able to grow and progress.
I'm in a super similar place in life as you and have been watching you for the last year and your videos have been sooo relatable and valuable to me!! Wishing you luck on this journey.
Wow, if we aren’t the same person, at least we have the same mind, because you literally spoke so many things I was afraid of and why: pursuing YT full time, lying to myself and who I was with corporate life, niching down, business building. 2023 was literally such a struggle though it didn’t seem like it in the last few months, so just know that getting over the bump is just a couple videos away, Wesley ❤ super excited to see where 2024 takes you and I’m almost sad you’re in Asia so long cuz we gotta hang soon!! But I know you’ll have the best time ✨ happy New Year!
Congrats on the engagement girl❤ I am a new subscriber and I look forward to see where this journey takes you. I became a subscriber because I love your spirit and sense of humour. I would love to see content about your trip to Japan and Muay Thai training! And also because I am a Christian (recently welcomed the Lord into my heart and feeling very blessed), I would love to hear more about your spiritual journey. Losing your job was just Gods redirection. And even though it sucks, it must because He has other plans for you. 2024 here we come❤🎉
I feel you on this so much! It is scary and it is okay, I wish you all the best and I will also do my best for my channel this year and I really hope that you are able to achieve all your goals with your channel! It gives me so much inspiration to work on mine as well! 🥺❤️
What about family planning, relationship building since you have more time with it, like finding a partner who can support your work. You are pretty enough ❤❤
Wesley congratulations. He's a lucky guy. I was laid off when I was a lot (lot) older than you but it gave me the chance to go back to university, get a new professional qualification and start a self-employed practice in a completely different area. I know too of Brits who have gone out to run their businesses from Thailand so it will be interesting to know what you think of that country and Japan. I am enjoying your Notion videos even when I feel a bit overwhelmed. Zaney humour appeals to us Brits and keeps our attention so keep up the good work. ☀
I’m going through this too right now. I still haven’t told my partner or parents but it’s a big mindset shift. I just want to be a musician and a painter and I’m at the point where I can no longer afford to give a sh** about anyone else’s opinion of me- I just want to be happy ❤️
Hearing it out loud, it makes sense. There is a lot of “fear of failing publicly” but who cares! It’s your personal goal, success and failure in this realm are personal benchmarks, public perception is secondary. Excited to see what full-time UA-cam will look like for this channel. 🎉
I am watching lots of part Time utubers going full time. The market will be saturated with the same content over and over and burn out. Good luck. You truly are an intelligent young woman. I also follow many others exactly like you.
Why would you expect others to bet on you when you aren't? Such a dope line. I got laid off back in November for the first time and it was an experience. However, like you, I took it as a sign to move in a different direction. I've designed my life but not sure where it's taking me. It'll be worth it though. Wishing you well on your journey as well :)
thank you so much for sharing this. I needed to see this. i feel the same way in that it is soo hard for me to work full time and pursue my youtube. i lack focus and motivation, even though I have the desire.
I love this video! Going through a similar experience now with my side project and job hunting. It's super hard to deal with identity questions. You touched on a lot of threads I relate to :)
I lasted 2020 layoffs and now I'm about to get laid off due to company contracted out whole department. If I stay at a job for more than 3 years, I get really nervous as something might happen like layoffs so at that time I would apply to other jobs.
Honey! You GOT THIS! Don't fear the trolls, Look at it as they add to your responses. Employers are very interested in people with things like content creation on their resume. Even if you are a UA-camr and working for them, if they find out, Unless you are raising a stink online, they will not care, OR they will want you to show them how to do it too. All in all, THAT is no longer an excuse you will need to worry about. MAJOR Congrats on the new path your life is taking! 2024 is going to ROCK OUT LOUD for you!
I found you from your unemployed vlog while I was unemployed.. I’m watching this unemployed vlog currently unemployed..again. 🧐 omg.. at the time of me writing this comment you mentioned betting on yourself..I was debating doing a promo shout out for my channel that I’m refocusing on while unemployed. Guess I’m doing it ✨ Edit: Just finished the video and I wanted to correct my past self above. hello fellow full time content creator. thank you. 💛
Love you! I've been with you for the whole 2023 and honestly started to miss your vlogs when you were busy with your new job. Glad it didn't work out (sorryy) I'd love to see Asia and Muai Thai and the wedding/ You look so natural on camera, hard to believe it's still scary for you)
This video showed up and I do not know what algorithm decided to show it in my feed but I'm glad it was there! Loved the video and appreciate you putting yourself out there, very genuine and resonates with me. Me? I'm just a Gen X who has been there done that with the corporate life for decades - now working for a smaller company close to 10 years now and enjoying it. Do NOT miss the corporate life even though I still deal with corporate folks at corporate companies and reminded on the daily I'm not missing corporate life. I know I am on the downhill side of my career in IT and don't know what the future holds, especially as I age out of the workforce but I will say as I get older I realize there is no better time than yesterday, second best time is right now, so good luck and looking forward to your videos - and yes, please post lifestyle videos of your trip - looking forward to the content. Best wishes!
It's crazy. I'm a designer and doing a day job and i really want to get serious about content creation and i finally started posting once a week on instagram 😭. Its so amazing to meet people in similar boats. Good luck
You’re amazing Wesley I haven’t finished the whole video yet but I already know it’s gonna be a banger like all your other vids. Commenting for the algo first ❤❤❤
I appreciate your honesty and I’m so happy that you’re doing what you want to do in life! I’m sort of stuck in a similar boat except I work as a cleaner and am trying to make my way into UX design! Looking forward to future content and good luck! Also congrats on being engaged yay!👏✨🥳
After 29 years, I was let go right before Christmas 2023. I feel you!! Trying to put more emphasis on my YT channel but it's 10% of my (or was) job income. So would have to grow watch time and subs by 10x over LOL ; I believe that sometimes these things happen so we can go find better jobs and do greater things elsewhere. 3 months after I'm still interviewing (overqualified is the word of the day), but it will come. Thx for the inspiration!
I just left 9 to 5 this year to start a online business (not YT) and tho hard, I'm also trying to convince myself it's fine if I fail. I wish the best for you ❤We can do it
Everyone I know seems to be getting laid off and sadly industries are being destroyed by Ai, horrible management at these companies and poor government economic decisions that dried up investment and destroyed the economy. I don’t see any of these jobs coming back. Brace for an ugly impact. Good luck to you.
You should do a paid zoom call where you explain to us more in depth about your notion templates. I bought them but I realized I don’t use it like I’d like because i don’t understand them to the fullest
Might be working on something new! 😳 But if you have trouble with the current one email me at hello@wesleyanna.com I can answer any questions you have!!
I'm 53, but when I was your age 20plus years ago this was me. I built up skills over the years and now I run my own business. So you just have to endure and get valuable skills. The world is neutral and doesn't care about you. You must get valuable skills and do your own thing. And take care of yourself. Good luck.
Just subscribed after only seeing a single video. Hoping this helps encourage you to keep making content and chasing the YT dream. You're super relatable and I can't wait to see more of your content 😊
Lol, don't blame yourself, it is meant to be, you have a choice but it is difficult because it wasn't meant to be... don't worry, you're doing great and is very smart and pretty, cheers.
I am 65 years old and whilst there is so much of my youth I would not change with your generation you have so many more opportunities available to you to create a number of streams of income. I wish you every success for 2024
Love this! I can relate to you 💯 on the “backup” that is actually just sabotaging other goals. You’re speaking directly to my own experience. I’m sorry you lost your job, which is hard either way, especially as a perfectionist/go-getter, but I’m glad you’re living your best life right now. Congratulations on your engagement and upcoming long travel ❤
08:09 Yes that is me, I'd be so glad to hear more from your experience. I'm very torn right now between taking on a corporate job (marketing - psychology - design field) on the side and trying to freelance fulltime and making videos on it to help others and also show potential clients. Earning money from a corporate job also sounds nice but i'd be afraid that my company somehow manages to find out about my own work and thinks I'm not loyal ^^ so.... anyway, I'm still figuring it out. I just gave my notion a new structure thanks to you :) Excited to see more of ur content!
I wonder why she got laid off? She is focusing on making UA-cam videos instead of refining and upgrading her skills at the office so she can provide more and greater service to the company. She is focusing on building relationships with UA-cam subscribers instead of building relations with upper management. She is lazy. look at her. She probably told people at work that she has outside projects. Which is unwise!! Don't bring personal life to your career! Who wants a worker like her??? Of Course she would never admit it and will blame everyone but herself..... I have worked in the corporate world over 25 years and have never been laid off! Company bosses appreciate " Perceived" loyalty and if they think you have outside projects going on they feel as though you are distracted and not fully vested in the company!! ... Just look at her talking about the last job she failed at!... she doesn't even admit the role she played in causing the company/firm to be less interested in her... look forward to more layoffs buddy!!!
My entire org was dissolved soon after. Can’t really impress your CEO when they don’t even work there anymore. 😬 But more importantly… Sometimes companies do use layoffs to terminate workers without having to give reason-and it’s totally possible this was a sly way to get rid of me. I’ll never know. So can’t really take responsibility for something that was never communicated to me if that’s the case. The larger issue here is blaming employees for layoffs. Attack my character all you want but I know plenty of hardworking and dedicated people have lost their jobs due to no fault of their own in the past year, and telling someone that it’s due to their own laziness and not corporate greed is damaging, unfair, and frankly untrue. And FWIW, the hours I’ve spent building up an online presence is exactly what’s allowed me to keep paying rent. I personally know someone who worked in the corporate world for 25+ years without a hiccup, had stellar reviews at the world’s most coveted companies, and spent their entire life dedicating 80 hours/week to work. Guess what? She was laid off. No one is immune.
I literally had this conversation in my head yesterday, except, I want to quit my corporate job. kudos to that! what copywriting course did you take?

How;s that voting Dems been working for you? The economy is more important than mean tweets.
To get laid off that much is a reflection of you. Time to be better
@@MB-xv7er You're clueless. This is not on her, it's the marketplace, the outsourcing and Biden's inability to do anything productive for Americans.
@@MB-xv7er Not really, its a sign of the times
I feel you.I'm 32, unemployed, and since I have a lot of time, I'm focusing more on my mental & physical health.Love your authenticity 💕

You got me blushing!! Ty for the kind compliment. I've been loving your videos lately and hope you continue down the right path for you as well.
"Corporate as a side-hustle and YT as the full-time job" is 🤯 Will be thinking of that today 💜
Thanks a billion for making this video. This is my first time seeing your channel and it just randomly popped up on my feed but all of your points hit home. it is very unwise to rely on youtube or any other social media company for income. you can get cancelled at any time

This is what I love about the internet!! makes you feel so much less alone in your struggles. good luck to you as well.
super excited for the new content to come! Would love to see Thailand and Japan through your eyes, Happy New Year Wesley!
excited to share more travel stuff again :,) happy new year!
Never subscribed to someone so quickly. Thank you for your transparency and rawness, it’s really refreshing.
Wow ty
You’re one of maybe 5 UA-camrs I subscribed to this year, so I’m one of the many looking forward to more of your content!
Wow tysm!
2024 is gonna be amazing for us both I just know it :,)
YOU GOT THIS! STAY STRONG!
I see myself in you when you talked about you want to give your 100 for the things you do and its hard and confusing sometimes, wish you the best❤
This is a sign - needed this! Thank you! ☺️
What about family planning, relationship building since you have more time with it, like finding a partner who can support your work. You are pretty enough ❤❤
Great attitude….true to yourself….persue happiness and success for your heart and soul.
Rejection is just redirection! :) Thailand is wonderful for remote work, everyone is kind and more importantly, good food for cheap haha
good thesis and declaration. wishing you godspeed
I’m going through this too right now. I still haven’t told my partner or parents but it’s a big mindset shift. I just want to be a musician and a painter and I’m at the point where I can no longer afford to give a sh** about anyone else’s opinion of me- I just want to be happy ❤️
Congratulations on your engagement! 🙂💜
UA-cam is definitely saturated with ordinary content-the challenge will be standing out! :)
you're such a beautiful soul and honest person

Congratulations on the engagement, just found your channel and love it.
I’m so happy you’re here 🥹
Will always be here consuming your content 🫡🤍
Why would you expect others to bet on you when you aren't? Such a dope line. I got laid off back in November for the first time and it was an experience. However, like you, I took it as a sign to move in a different direction. I've designed my life but not sure where it's taking me. It'll be worth it though. Wishing you well on your journey as well :)
thank you so much for sharing this. I needed to see this. i feel the same way in that it is soo hard for me to work full time and pursue my youtube. i lack focus and motivation, even though I have the desire.
My girlfriend and I are traveling next year too, super excited for you and your future husband!
Eek! Exciting! Hope you have a wonderful time abroad
Thank you for your candidness ❤
I loved this vlog ! Can’t wait for your new content, and congratulations 💍🎉
Tysm :)
You are a creator. Pursue your passion. Go all in. You got this.
🥹
I love this mindset, rooting for you!
Keep going!! You got it!! 🎉
Guess I’m doing it ✨
Edit: Just finished the video and I wanted to correct my past self above.
hello fellow full time content creator. thank you. 💛
Let's go! Let's got! Your attitude is an inspiration and bet on yourself!!!
Go for it! I pray and wish you much success GOD BLESS YOUN😊😊😊
Love you! I've been with you for the whole 2023 and honestly started to miss your vlogs when you were busy with your new job. Glad it didn't work out (sorryy) I'd love to see Asia and Muai Thai and the wedding/ You look so natural on camera, hard to believe it's still scary for you)
Can't wait to make more content this year :,) thanks for sticking around through my commitment issues! haha
good luck on your next journey!
Good luck
A.I. will keep replacing office jobs for sure. And you tube already has a million channels.
Your story is inspirational! Thanks for the share.
You’re amazing Wesley I haven’t finished the whole video yet but I already know it’s gonna be a banger like all your other vids. Commenting for the algo first ❤❤❤
Best supporter as always 🥹
I appreciate your honesty and I’m so happy that you’re doing what you want to do in life! I’m sort of stuck in a similar boat except I work as a cleaner and am trying to make my way into UX design! Looking forward to future content and good luck! Also congrats on being engaged yay!👏✨🥳
you are strong woman . you got this .
Ooof that’s rough but I have faith that no matter the path you’ll pull through 🙏🏼 thanks for stopping thorough!
@@WesleyAnna Thank you -- your encouragement means a lot! Many blessings your way, too!
I want to zig and the world expects me to zag! You said it ❤😂
bonne chance sache que tu a le soutien de beaucoup de monde
I relate to you so much!!! Thank you for sharing your experience.
I just left 9 to 5 this year to start a online business (not YT) and tho hard, I'm also trying to convince myself it's fine if I fail. I wish the best for you ❤We can do it
Yes to muay Thai content! Was in Thailand recently to do some kickboxing at Tiger Muay Thai and it was 🔥
Everyone I know seems to be getting laid off and sadly industries are being destroyed by Ai, horrible management at these companies and poor government economic decisions that dried up investment and destroyed the economy.
Good luck.
6:55 "How can you expect others to bet on you if you never even bet on yourself."
Yea, get it girl! And gratz on getting engaged!
I totally relate to that & really enjoy your sit down videos!! Huge congratulations on getting engaged!!!!💗❤🌷
Just subscribed after only seeing a single video. Hoping this helps encourage you to keep making content and chasing the YT dream. You're super relatable and I can't wait to see more of your content 😊
Wow tysm!!! I hope I can live up to expectations
Lol, don't blame yourself, it is meant to be, you have a choice but it is difficult because it wasn't meant to be... don't worry, you're doing great and is very smart and pretty, cheers.
just wow, I understand you so well
Wishing you the best in your new path ❤❤
Subscribed. If you can, try uploading 2 x week to get the momentum going 💪
I am 65 years old and whilst there is so much of my youth I would not change with your generation you have so many more opportunities available to you to create a number of streams of income. I wish you every success for 2024
Happened to me twice in less than a year, too. Both jobs were office jobs in the construction industry. It’s one of the worst feelings
This is so relatable, thank you for sharing! Excited to see more of your videos & congratulations!! 💍😊

Always so true
Literally my life goals this year and lets be honest for a long time
08:09 Yes that is me, I'd be so glad to hear more from your experience. I'm very torn right now between taking on a corporate job (marketing - psychology - design field) on the side and trying to freelance fulltime and making videos on it to help others and also show potential clients. Earning money from a corporate job also sounds nice but i'd be afraid that my company somehow manages to find out about my own work and thinks I'm not loyal ^^
so.... anyway, I'm still figuring it out. I just gave my notion a new structure thanks to you :)
Excited to see more of ur content!
😬 But more importantly…
Sometimes companies do use layoffs to terminate workers without having to give reason-and it’s totally possible this was a sly way to get rid of me.
@@WesleyAnna Got it!
It's OK to disagree...have a great day.
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Congratulations!!!
