Yes, I know, I did a video of Dr. Greger getting the award. And in the beginning they mentioned previous year recipients. That may have been the first time I heard about you! The crowd got a bit excited when you were mentioned ;) ua-cam.com/video/-AZVPziricM/v-deo.html
It would be an epic awesome honor get the infamous Chef AJ in the mix! As soon as I get caught up and can make it out her way I would love to see if she's interested. I'm driving 16 hours to Texas next weekend. Just got back from Iowa, Chicago, and Detroit where I shot this and a bunch of other interviews, many I still need to edit. I'll be in Texas two weeks. After I get back I'll have two weeks to edit everything before driving about 7 hours for a handful of days and nights in Richmond for a interviews at a summit, then I have to go back again a week later to get a few more interviews and I may drive up to Boston after that for more interviews there and in route. Then when winter comes in I'll start looking at Florida for interviews. Then hopefully California sometime next after that. It's hard to say. To justify a trip to a location I have to find enough people to interview and schedule it all. All this traveling, interviewing, editing, camera gear, computer gear and software is extremely expensive and has been consuming my entire life for a while now. I do it all alone and pay for it all so it's hard to no for sure where I'll end up and when. Thanks for watching and commenting :) I hope I can keep this going and get her in the mix :)
thanks for sharing! There's a lot of athletes I want to interview it's just hard to coordinate timing with them as they all seem so busy and elusive...
This was by far the most interesting "vegan doctor interviews ever and he's on point the whole time. I've learned so much and this doctor reignited my passion for diet. Im already a whole food vegan since 3 years now but this doctor on whole different level. This ydeo is like the holy grail of interviews .Thanks for this. Sending love from Sweden ❤
Awesome, thanks, I would have loved to have done better and dove deeper but he only gave me 30 minutes, showed up 15 minutes early, so I had less time to setup but I was able to at least squeeze in a little more time...
I have been Vegan (living on Plant Based Diet) for few years now. The only regret I have that I have not been eating Plant Based since birth. They fed us all these lies about Protein and Calcium... I am glad that I woke up.
My mom just turned 91. Her MD has her on a low sodium diet and no caffeine. She somehow survived cancer and heart disease which were side effects from medications and second hand smoke for forty years. Her plant based diet is probably why she is still alive and walking on her own.
I read Dr Kahn" book The Holistic Heart Book, seven years ago after a heart attack, it was one of six books on heart disease I read, but is the very best of the bunch. It simply made the most sense to me. Now, I work out Three Days a week one hour in the Gym, 45 minutes in the pool and one Hour of Yoga each time., plus I go for long walks with my dog as well as work outs at home (TRX, Nordic Track) and more Yoga. NO Issues with my heart. I have recommended his book to friends and family, I can't thank you enough Dr Kahn.
I'm 54 and went vegan in 1985 mostly raw food the whole time ...i dont eat grains or beans just fruits and veg and coconut and Sea weeds and some nuts and lots of avocados and juice ....im healthier than I was as a child. My pulse rate is around 53 and BP around 110 over 60....theres nothing that ever made me feel as good as a raw vegan diet...
@@dawn8542 beans (legumes) are the only thing I would label a superfood at this point. why do you feel you need to change your current approach? eating mostly/exclusively raw is unnecessary. if what you're doing is working for you just keep doing your thang.
I’m 61 and and vegan for 6 months, no meat or dairy. About 85% plant based. I’m still learning. I’m still trying to figure out processed foods. I still eat peanut butter sandwich’s (love them) Spaghetti with marinara sauce with mushrooms about once a week. I keep pasta to a minimum.
That’s great! Keep up the learning process, I’ve been slowly transitioning and I’m now at about 90% daily and some days 100% WFPB Making new dishes is very inspiring and keeps me on track. Variety of foods is key..🤗👏🏼👏🏼 keep it up..🙌🏼🌱💚
Yes, everyone dies, but not everyone has to be the reason why they die prematurely. And animals don't need to be forced into existence to be abused and slaughtered as basically children.
Great interview 👍 I have been WFPB since 2018. Every now and then I need some new inspiration...this doc nailed it for me. So matter of fact and sincere. We need more like him out there! I am a nurse in a Cardiovascular Operating room...trying to convince the surgeons that diet really matters is like pulling teeth. I live in Toronto area..would love to have a health consultation with Dr. Khan. Does he see new patients?
Nice! I dropped mine from 263 to 200 in 7 weeks of an imperfect transition to plant based. Plus, I was able to avoid going on statins! That was 5 months ago. I know it will be even lower next time I get it checked since I'm eating even healthier now. I'll also note I haven't had to take allergy or asthma medicine in 5 months either. I used to take them almost daily. It's GREAT!!
This is inspiring i needed to hear/ read this today. Wish me me im in the 200s right now and just started my sos- free diet… been vegan since 2015 but not really healthy foods you know? ❤ 🎉 congratulations to both of you!
I love to read true stories of hope and courage and change, and i love being vegan for the past nearly 13 ys. I feel at my best ever at age almost 69yrs. We need all the education there is about the horrendous animal farming industries and the best places for it is are in schools and in the home. When we know better, we can live and be better, and also create a better world for the future.
This interview was marvelous. He talked about many important things people need to hear about. He's very knowledgeable. Also I liked the fact that he had a very neutral stand point without emphasizing his own opinion on some aspects. He remained on the logical and reasonable side, focusing on the real scientific facts. Science always win! And science proves eating fully plant based diet can be the healthiest when it's conducted with proper plans and information.
I was vegan for a few years on and off. Found it challenging to stay on because I had to cook two separate meals. My husband who is a cardiologist wasn’t on board so unfortunately I gave in. I’m am looking to go back on no matter what and stay true to what I believe is healthiest. Thanks for sharing
⛳️Agree.. you can mess up if the family members are not onboard. I was such a healthy Vegan eater but my husband loves food, though he is vegetarian ( but eats junky vegetarian food)… and I slowly messed up my eating with him.. today I am repenting and correcting my body with intermittent fasting, juice fasting, all homemade plant based food ( no outside vegan junk food) and more importantly loving the lightness I feel inside…. Plz continue your own journey… and your spouse will see the results and join you as my husband is making changes after seeing me getting better. No talk.. just your action in right direction can move people around you!
Thx for these very encouraging and informative videos. It can really be lifechanger/lifesaver stuff. You folks should be proud and encouraged. Love to y’all from Downunder 🇦🇺 🦘
I attended the University of Michigan 3 years later than Dr. Kahn. I did not become a vegetarian until 1985, and a vegan until a handful of years ago. I am impressed he went straight to vegan in 1977, because I know first-hand there was not much information or resources on it that early. (The only book I recall seeing in the early 80s was Frances Moore Lappe's "Diet for a Small Planet", in which she pushed eating dairy with plants to "complement proteisn" -- now known as unnecessary). After Lappe, John McDougall's work seemed to hit the mainstream market next, but it took many years for people to take him seriously outside of college towns. Super impressed that Dr. Kahn was personally on the leading edge in his own life as early as he was.
I throughly enjoyed listening to this doctor. I learned so much, thank you! Plant diet is the way to go. By the grace of God and eating an anti inflammatory, high cruciferous veggie ,no oil, high omega 3s, 64 oz green smoothie and a gallon of water day diet, reversed lupus.
Yikes, a gallon is probably twice the water you should drink, normally anyways. The more raw you eat the less water you need also... glad you're doing great! I may be interviewing Dr Brooke Goldner soon. If you have any questions you want me to ask let me know!
@@Starfish2145 there is a talk by Dr Tim Radak on fatty acids on my channel. By eating a variety of whole plant foods we may get all we need. And one serving of walnuts or flax seed has all omega 3 we need, I eat Sunflower seeds too for omega 6 and vitamin E. Easy peasy. When in doubt test. The more people eat like this the more they will be able to convert to long chain fatty acids.
Wow, he's great! And he's living proof that he's doing something right, did he say he was in his 60's?? He looks amazing! None of the vegans I've known look this good! Thanks for this informative video.
@@johnambrose1995 I have been moving in this direction since the late 80's, really most of my life. But, I came to understand "veganism" and committed to not exploiting animals in 2011. Some kid like 16 said He assumed I was 40 too, but I’m 65. I’ve been doing intermittent fasting over 3 years now. A funny thing happened, I was using chicken breast as a part of my diet(lifestyle). After about 10-12 month, meat didn’t taste well. I thought I had picked up bad meat. I tried another day or 2, new packages of meat, same feeling. I decided to stop just watching Vegan/whole food diet. My weight was dropping slowly at the time, as I went 100% vegan had me shocked getting on my bathroom scale, 5 pounds, 4 pounds in a week, it slowed down to 2 & some weeks .9 pounds. Was 270, fast forward I am 168.7 lbs. I will slow down, since I’m returning to two meal a day. My goal was 155/160, I’m pounds away now of this goal set in 2020😊
Stopped all red meat quite some time ago. Next was poultry, then dairy and eggs last. Still confused on olive oil? I do eat Salmon or Albacore Tuna one meal a week. Eat lots of dark greens.
I had a similar progression. Hopefully you'll be able to remove fish too because they are sentient, gravely overfished, not sustainable, and full of bioaccumulated environmental toxins like PCBs, Dioxins, mercury, etc...
I’ve been on a journey myself for the past few years and this year I’ve ramped it up.. after listening to Drs Esselstyn and Ornish, I’m convinced. Watching FOK and Game changers.. wow!
@@rosetulip1231 and there are two others Seventh Day Adventists who practiced medicine till in their 90’s in Loma Linda CA. They were plant-based exclusively for 50-80 years.
This isn't a science-based conversation...it's rhetoric. Sugar/wheat and starch are killing us...not Saturated Fat and protein. Study the metabolic effect.. and what starches and sugar does. Fat and protein are necessities...carbohydrates are not needed exogenously/in foods...due to gluconeogenesis. Period. Why don't you debate DR. CYWES or Dr. Berry, or other pundits/ "White Papers" on carnivore vs. Carbs. You never debate any carnivores...but they interview "sugar-eaters". Sugar and carbs cause the "metabolic effect", not fat/protein. Lies about the microbiome being fed best with vegetarian...utter nonsense.
Dr McDougall is the plant based doctor I trust. His entire works can be accessed for free on his website. I'm always suspicious of anyone recommending supplements, when they also sell supplements.
Dr McDougall also recommends supplements. He takes B12, he switches between cyano and methylcobalamin. It's very logical to sell something if you believe in it. But, yeah, we have to be careful about those that sell things, but that alone doesn't make what they're doing or selling wrong :)
I’m back after 15-20 yrs vegan plant based- I’m still alive and almost died from inflammation and obesity and switched sided and heading from plant based 265 down to carnivore 190 heading where I should be 160-170. For some of us plants just don’t work my motto now save the plant life!
Sounds like you didn't know what you were doing. But I understand it's easy to be addicted for some people to salt oil sugar flour. But it's very sad and unfortunate you didn't learn how to properly eat and now you're doing something that's tragic and has zero science to back it up but instead has science clearly indicating meat is a risk factor whereas plants are protective against chronic disease that developed over time and shortens healthspan and lifespan. It doesn't sound like you were eating a well-planned vegan diet which is comprised of a simple and proper variety of whole plant Foods. If you're worried about plant life then stop eating animals because they consume more plants than we do and those animals are forced into existence so people can consume their body parts organs and secretions needlessly while tragically over-consuming resources/plants. It doesn't sound like you got proper guidance which is understandable in a culture where misinformation is so abundant and most people grow up not knowing not being taught properly how to eat.
There's no way the most anti-inflammatory and most effective way of obtaining and maintaining the perfect weight didn't work for you. You're obviously just a troll.
Didn't eat any animals since 1973 and stopped eating cheese in 2003, so vegan since then. I am 67 and never took a pill besides maybe ibuprofen or antibiotics for some tooth infection

Lately, (last 2 yrs) I'm into: Smoothie: dried beets & matcha or hemp with water/tart cherry & apple juice/banana/wild blueberries Steamed banana peels/lentils/curry spices, & after cooking: olive oil or coconut oil & amino Snacks: are a major in my diet. My trail mix: raw nuts & seeds: walnuts, peanuts & almonds, pumpkin & sunflower seeds, inca & goji berries. Avocado wrapped in raw kales. Snacks: Truffles: 1-2 a day: raw chocolate, coconut flour, coconut oil, monk sweetener, apple or pear juice, trail mix, rolled into balls, & kept in freezer. Other Snacks: carrots or apples, with peanut or almond butter* (heavy, yet wanted). During summer: cantaloupe, mango, melons max. 1 piece of seed bread a week. & 3-5 bowls of popcorn with nutritional yeast Supplements: b12, stinging nettles, beta carotine or bilberries, melatonin Everyday Hot Drink: Raw Cocoa, coconut milk powder, monk sweet, cinnamon There's no thin here, not a diet to lose weight, only maintain, reducing the smoothie to more water vs juice helps lower calories. Fabulous to find you, I'm a fan, excellent information offered on the free.
No need to supplement melatonin either. Anchor your circadian rhythm with a dose of early infrared sunshine before 9 am. Then get a dose of uvb mid day and more infrared in the evening. Let your body do the work in cooperation with the sun. It's not good to bypass pathways. There's a really great video on this I'll try to share later ❤ thanks for watching & commenting!

I've tried vegan, paleo, carnivore, ketogenic, and others. Now at 61 yoa. I am on a mostly meat diet. My digestion, energy levels, skin, muscle mass are healthier than ever. I know that meat made the biggest difference. I feel fantastic.
For optimum healthspan and protection against the leading chronic diseases and premature death (thinking big picture) consider eating a whole plant food exclusive diet of beans, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices and a variety of each. Otherwise you're just slowly hurting your potential while needlessly killing and being unsustainable
Meat is literally death, and it taste better because your parents brought you up on it. You've been desensitized to it. All taste are acquired except human breast milk so you can learn to love something that loves back, you can learn to love plants, which literally are life. They are the most abundant and natural source of nutrients. This is why there are more long term vegans and no long term carnivores or lifelong that you would want to emulate. The totality of evidence over the last half of a century at least points at a whole plant food exclusive diet being best for optimum health span. You have nothing supporting your side except blood, death, and some youtubers.
Not necessarily. I was a former Essyltyn fan for a few years and was educated in the national "CHIP"program twice. I watched my CAC Score go from 299 to 660, and now, with the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol, I am watching it reverse as fast as it progressed, even eating meat dairy and so on! After just 20 months, that score went to 458. Better think again about a statement like that!
Grains and legumes cause blood sugar spikes. Eating raw foods with living cells is the best way to health. As a raw vegan/mainly fruitarian, leaving out grains, starches, cooked foods made the biggest change in my life even though I was already whole food plant based.
Not when they are in the whole food form. You clearly have never looked at a glycemic index chart comparing different foods. Beans even have a 2nd meal effect blunting the glycemic load of the next meal making you double wrong. There is a reason why so many successful physicians treat diabetics by putting patients on a whole food plant exclusive diet. Insulin resistance causes glucose spikes as well as processed foods. Insulin resistance comes from intramyocellular lipids, saturated animais fat blocking insulin receptors making you triple wrong. Look into "Mastering Diabetes" or physicians committee for responsible medicine who have been extremely successful for decades at reversing diabetes with non invasive lifestyle changes like eating whole plant foods exclusively. The Ornish program is so effective at treating cardio metabolic diseases & demonstrating this, scientifically that medicare funds the program even making you completely wrong. I have 2 videos on my channel talking specifically about diabetes you should watch.
Have you done sprouting of these healthy foods? I love that you're going in the raw direction so don't get me wrong. And to be honest I'm multitasking so I didn't see your whole comment before I responded lol. That 1st sentence sounded like it was leading into a typical carnivore comment. But nonetheless these foods are some of the healthiest foods you can be eating. However they could be healthier on a raw diet. But the problem wouldn't be the glycemic load. Cooking destroys enzymes enzymes and Water soluble vitamins like C and B vitamins.... Do you do any sprouting and/or fermenting?
It is just crazy that Doctors do not get nutrition training in Medical schools. Every doctor visit should include some nutrition discussion. The majority of the population is over weight or obese leading to high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer. Schools and hospital cafeterias should be leading the way to good health by setting the example of what is a healthy meal and teaching people what to eat and why.. Every person in the hospital for heart disease should have a nutrition class before being checked out from the hospital with follow up education and training in nutrition. Medicare and Medicaid should require patient nutrition education as part of their standard of care. Nutrition information should be run on the hospital TV channel.
I did it and I love a whole food plant based diet. But I can’t tolerate FODMAPS…. So I get extreme digestive distress from legumes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Im 99.9% plant based whole food , however, I do eat 1 can of of sardines in water daily because the plant sources of omega 3's didn't raise my omega 3 levels but them sardines did other than that whole foods are the obvious best food.so basically plant omega sources wasn't for me I had A LOT! of the stuff I put 3 tablespoons of whole organic flax seeds and 2 tablespoons of sea moss gel in my morning smoothie daily.
Were you eating two tablespoons ground flax daily, a serving of walnuts, along with various other nuts and seeds? You would have to do this consistently for several months or half a year to test for efficacy. Did you try algae like chlorella or seaweeds? They may have preformed. When you say low, what was it exactly? 0? 1? 4?
I do can of sardines a week and am clearly sharper mentally than I was without them. For me a can a day would be too much. Otherwise, I follow a starch(70%) based McDougal style vegan diet. I do brown my onions and garlic with a little olive oil and do eat some walnuts and pumpkin seeds.
@@skylarderthick142 actually, plants are a perfect source of alpha linolenic acid and 1.6 grams a day are easy to get with plants. Just on serving of walnuts or flax can get you there. Animals, including fish, get them from plants. If I was a person who is for a fact dealing with a rare genetic anomaly or living a lifestyle up to this point that has disrupted my metabolic pathways to elongate fatty acids to DHA/EPA then I would supplement algae based and/or eat oysters and claims since they are the least likely to be sentient, most sustainable, and also a low on the chain to limit bioaccumulated environmental toxins.
My Grandfather eats all meat, dairy, sweets and a shot of Jack Daniels here and there. He's 95, walking around healthy for a man his age and sharp in mind. Go figure.
Exceptions to the rule are common, nothing new, just not the rule. It would be way cooler if he was vegan, it sucks that he spent 95 years needlessly having animals abused and slaughtered. Hearing about some random old person who did unhealthy things makes me think of all the people they negatively influenced who were probably not as lucky to live so long. If only he would have been a better influence.
@@markcredit6086 Literally the scientific consensus among nutritional scientists is that regular consumption of meat significantly increases risk of heart disease and a WFPB is among the healthiest longterm diets a human can eat. Facts don't care about your feelings snowflake.
Hospitals and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided . It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care.
I sliced my tendon in my hand about a month ago. They brought food round and it was all processed meat, cheese, and eggs. Not a single healthy meal. Health care costs are out of control. Going vegan can save money, pain and suffering from disease. Lower your chance of high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer by going vegan.
if you look at many people who are recorded as living the longest( to 117 years) most of them ate eggs, even 3 per day. if it was really so bad, they would have kicked the bucked very early
@@toms8879 The oldest women in the world in Japan basically lived off of sweet potatoes and rice. There is nothing good about eggs. They have the highest cholesterol of any food and are high in methionine. I'm not sure where you get your information . The egg industry poisons the information well and bribes the American Heart Association through donations. I can tell you some people have genetic traits that allow them to do well despite eating bad food.
Eggs are not a food staple of the Blue Zones, where most centenarians are. If someone ate 3 eggs a day and lived that long they probably lived that long for other reasons, not the eggs. But, I have never heard of anyone living that long and eating that many eggs. I'm sure there's plenty of people that may have, but none I've heard of. The people living the longest are the most plant based.
Variety is important, spinach is great but in moderation with more of other greens. Romaine is probably better to eat more of, butter lettuce, mixed greens, arugula, red leaf, kale, etc. Spinach is high oxalate. Baby leaves have less and steaming/cooking them will reduce oxalates, but really, get less spinach, more other greens, and variety is best. Variety of beans, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices

I began my vegan journey in 2015, and never looked back. Question?? I made so many mistakes, one being no B-Complex, B-12, Vitamin D and Omegas. I only added egg whites, then egg yolk (B-12, and more)...Are Grain-fed Eggs bad for vegans?
Eggs are not vegan they come from an animal and vegans do not exploit animals. There are healthier, safer options than eggs that are more sustainable without exploiting animals. They're high in cholesterol and have dangerous bacteria on them. If you just ate the whites that would be healthier but you're still displacing even healthier whole plant foods that are more sustainable and profoundly more compassionate. The male chick's are ground up, the females bred to produce 30 times as many as they naturally can and each time they lay eggs is excruciatingly painful, and they're crowded into horrific living conditions that are breeding grounds for zoonotic diseases. This video sums it up nicely: ua-cam.com/video/utPkDP3T7R4/v-deo.html And this video as well: ua-cam.com/video/JRpgSvzZNcI/v-deo.html Because there is absolutely no need to consume eggs there is absolutely no reason to exploit chickens for this. They have engineered these birds to produce an egg every day instead of their natural rate of one a month. Imagine having to endure a period not 12 times a year but now 365 times a year. This of course results in a drastically shorter lifespan. Male chic's of course are ground up alive because they are of no use. Second, they're unhealthy compared to healthier vegan options and even dangerous. So not only are they unethical and cruel and unnecessary because we can eat plants instead, they are even risky to consume. nutritionfacts.org/video/eggs-and-arterial-function/ nutritionfacts.org/video/eggs-and-diabetes/ nutritionfacts.org/video/who-says-eggs-arent-healthy-or-safe/ nutritionfacts.org/video/whose-health-unaffected-by-eggs/ nutritionfacts.org/video/debunking-egg-industry-myths/ nutritionfacts.org/video/how-the-egg-board-designs-misleading-studies/ nutritionfacts.org/video/eggs-and-cholesterol-patently-false-and-misleading-claims/ In summary nutritionfacts.org/topics/eggs/ nutritionfacts.org/questions/why-are-eggs-bad-for-you/ nutritionfacts.org/2020/05/12/what-meat-and-eggs-do-to-our-microbiome/ Flash back nutritionfacts.org/video/flashback-friday-who-says-eggs-arent-healthy-or-safe/ nutritionfacts.org/video/egg-cholesterol-in-the-diet/

I take 2500 μg a week of cyanocobalamin. Doctor McDougall recently recommended mixing it up with methylcobalamin occasionally. I like that idea. I get the sublingual kind. There may be some really good toothpastes out there that could be an alternative as well and you could take a smaller dose once a day, etc. Do a Google search for nutritionfacts.org supplements for more details
The RDA is 1.6 grams of ALA, this is found in ground flax, walnuts, romaine, etc. If you're eating a variety of whole plant foods you may simply get enough that way. Otherwise one serving of flax or walnuts may get you there. Purslane, green algae like chlorella, seaweeds, have preformed elongated fatty acids DHA EPA
Also - can you address in a future video about what this guy just said - vegan junk food diet. It's soooo hard to figure out how much processed food is ok. Like tofu. It's processed. Once it's fried, it's delicious and so very junkie but is it bad?
It's all about how frequent you eat that sort of thing, you're overall health and lifestyle in general. If you're healthy and it's just a rare occasion it's probably totally fine. When I go to restaurants I usually just have them cook it on a grill top without deep frying. It's not the same punch in flavors but I'm use to it and I like feeling good beyond the movement, in that regard. Instead of fried or white rice I substitute with cabbage, it's usually easy until I get someone who no speak English very well ...
@@VeganLinked our lives are so very different. I eat a pretty bad diet I guess. It's all about "safe" foods for me. So fried tofu is a regular, along with ramen and kimchi. Pretty sure ramen is one of the worst things you can do to your body, but it doesn't hurt to eat, sooo. No, I wouldn't say healthy 😂

Yes, everyone dies, but not everyone has to be the reason why they die prematurely. And animals don't need to be forced into existence to be abused and slaughtered as basically children.

Yes to olive oil!!!! You made my day Dr. Kahn! This is the only added fat I need in my plant-based diet :))
Olive oil has a lot of fat (14% saturated) so it is caloric dense. All foods high in any kind of fat should be limited.

I dropped my cholesterol numbers from 265 to 190 in four months by eating plant base. My Cardiologist was impressed.
Nice! I dropped mine from 263 to 200 in 7 weeks of an imperfect transition to plant based. Plus, I was able to avoid going on statins! That was 5 months ago.
Plant based is the way go for real, your body will love. Thank you.
Solid interview with a most knowledgeable doctor.
I enjoyed this valuable discussion.
No oil? You need healthy fat like olive oil avocados and nuts
I don’t think she would recommend a gallon of water if it’s too much.
Only avocados are allowed on the protocol.

Continue to listen and the doctor now says EVOO study shows it is good for us. That is great news because I love some oil on my salads.
Watching FOK and Game changers.. wow!

Very Impressive - I appreciate your science based approach.

This guy is a genius and you wouldn't even believe what he knows. Diet, and besides diet.
This is the right way. Meat is life and it taste better too
Meat is literally death, and it taste better because your parents brought you up on it.
So, what are you doing over here? Still secretly want to be vegan?
@@VeganLinked Well said!
As the writer George Bernard Shaw said, "The downside of being a vegetarian is that you go to all your friends' funerals."
Sta fat causes insulin resistance, leading to blood sugar spikes. Grains and legumes are amazing for healthy blood sugar levels.

Is there any food or supplement that controls RLS? I am plant-based.....love my food.
I did it and I love a whole food plant based diet. But I can’t tolerate FODMAPS…. So I get extreme digestive distress from legumes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
slowly acclimate, consult a nutritionist or dietitian that practices lifestyle medicine! Or maybe PCRM 21 day kickstart can help or vegan outreach.
@@spoudaois4535 no flax?
Plant based omega 3 is not bio available.
My Grandfather eats all meat, dairy, sweets and a shot of Jack Daniels here and there. He's 95, walking around healthy for a man his age and sharp in mind. Go figure.
That's great but outliers don't invalidate statistics.
@@VeganLinked do u prefer die in hunger as long as cow lives ?
Figure what?
When I went back a week later the nurse said I was healing twice as fast as most people, wonder why that might be...

Health care costs are out of control. Going vegan can save money, pain and suffering from disease.
Lower your chance of high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer by going vegan.

He does not look like he is in his 60's
29:47 I remember this study
I think he means the egg whites raise the TMAO. Its from the methionine. The yolks are bad because of the cholesterol.
he said yolks... that is what accelerates TMAO .. not whites
if you look at many people who are recorded as living the longest( to 117 years) most of them ate eggs, even 3 per day. if it was really so bad, they would have kicked the bucked very early
@@MakingworldBetter88 He got that mixed up. Thats my point.
Can you steam spinach, if you eat a lot of it to avoid kidney stones formation?
Variety is important, spinach is great but in moderation with more of other greens. Romaine is probably better to eat more of, butter lettuce, mixed greens, arugula, red leaf, kale, etc. Spinach is high oxalate. Baby leaves have less and steaming/cooking them will reduce oxalates, but really, get less spinach, more other greens, and variety is best. Variety of beans, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices
Thanks, Doc. I'm PB too, though I wish for longer. I began 3 years ago when a CC Score revealed CD. I'm 67. Meat and dairy are gone, but I'm confused about nuts. I like them in my salad, especially pecans. Are they okay? Is a little EVOO okay in a salad, and can I saute a little cauliflower-rice and broccoli in it? Thanks so much.
If you already have a condition you most likely need to consult a medical professional like a nutritionist, dietitian, or physician that specializes in Lifestyle Medicine.
Dr. Esselstyn recommends against nuts, seeds, avocados when there is a heart or bloodvesselcondition.
Thank you. I see an interventional
cardiologist every 6 months. He's satisfied that I have listened and transitioned to a PB diet. But he doesn't have time to discuss specific foods. I am trying to reverse the arterial plaque. Not sure I can do that. But I do aerobic and strength training 4 days a week.
@@thomasc4777 If you already have cardiac disease, oil, in any form, is not your friend. Dr Esselstyn is the foremost authority on the question of whether nuts and oil hurt in the case of patients who already have heart disease. He headed the Cleveland Clinic intervention study on heart disease. Moderation kills, to be blunt. See also Dr Baptiste, a cardiologist, who also says moderation kills.
Check out youtube Spain on a Fork. He has a vegan play list. The dishes are so easy and taste fantastic.
Spoudaois - Does Spain on fork fry in olive oil? heating oil not good, specially smoking hot?
@@susibul5320 he does use olive oil. I reduce the amount that he uses to keep it light. Modify as you see fit. Just have to pick and chose which ones you want to try. I like the lentil stew with potatoes, vegan paella, fidua , bean and potato dishes.
@@spoudaois4535 thanks, I like plenty of olive oil, just not heating the oil too hot as it changes the oil to a toxic substance. The lentil/potato stew etc sound really delicious, thank you Spoudaois, I’ll go looking for Spain on a fork.
Flax oil?
Compelling and confusing. Dr Esselstyn, Dr Klaper and Dr Gregor continue to say NO OIL - specifically Dr Esselstyn’s lectures discussing in detail what happens to the endothelial cells when one consumes any type of oil. 🤷♀️
A few drops for someone that is healthy is probably fine. A lot of doctors don't feel the same. The science isn't totally clear.

This video sums it up nicely: ua-cam.com/video/utPkDP3T7R4/v-deo.html
And this video as well: ua-cam.com/video/JRpgSvzZNcI/v-deo.html
Because there is absolutely no need to consume eggs there is absolutely no reason to exploit chickens for this.

On the topic of B12, a lot of studies and articles have stated that you can get it in nutritional yeast.. is including nootch in your diet regularly enough to not need a supplement? Thanks.

Good job Dr.What are some of B12 supplements for a vegan to use. Thanks and eagerly waiting for your feedback 😀

How can I get enough vegan omega 3, excepting supplements? Thanks
I landed in hospital a few years ago and now have to avoid anything high fodmap, highly processed or difficult to digest. Which leaves a diet that looks like hospital food. Mostly white and mushy. So fried tofu is a regular, along with ramen and kimchi. Pretty sure ramen is one of the worst things you can do to your body, but it doesn't hurt to eat, sooo. No, I wouldn't say healthy 😂
