      I've noticed a similar effect recently as well. I' had been running the old 531, but I just started doing big but boring with it (5x10 after working sets) I just lower the weight by a little and throw on a sling shot. Results, +10 lbs body weight and about an inch on the arms in just a few months.

    You never dissapoint brother, this is solid advice and makes perfect sense. I especially liked when you mentioned varying the reps on presses. You always hear guys talking about going below sets of 5 on board presses, but for big arm goals you could hit the low reps and then do backdowns with sets of 10-20

    You're right Alex, using bands definitely helped a ton. Buying a pair of bands was the best buying decision I made for lifting, other than the gym membership. I use them the most on Z Presses and when I take the bands off, the weight FLIES off of the pins as I do as many reps as possible. It's INSANE! Once you get bands and use them in a workout, it's going to be nearly impossible for you to want to go back to only straight weight.

    • @PermanentHigh
      @PermanentHigh 7 років тому +6

      Minewire Fitness Dude you're barely a beginner, you dont need all that extra shit to make gains. Just stick to the basics and you will gains. Leave bands, chains, slingshots and any other complex shit for when you reach an advanced stage in your lifting career. Right now you're still getting basic noon gains.

    • @TheEditorJosh
      @TheEditorJosh 7 років тому +7

      With all due respect, you have no idea what I am. I'm a 17 year old early intermediate lifter. I know for a fact that I am not a novice because I can't make gains with linear progression. I couldn't for a couple of months. If you watch Alex's videos at all, you'll know that this means that you are now an intermediate, definitely not a beginner.
      I stalled at a 345lb x 7. Squat and every other lift and could not get past it until I switched to an *intermediate* program called Naturally Enhanced. On that program, he recommends bands, so I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing. I don't use slingshots or chains either. Thanks for the suggestion though!

    • @DavidKFZ
      @DavidKFZ 7 років тому

      Minewire Fitness how long were you stalling at that weight before you decided to move onto the intermediate program?

    • @TheEditorJosh
      @TheEditorJosh 7 років тому

      Two months. It sounds like a long period, but I was increasing on some of my other lifts slowly, so I didn't realize how long I had been stuck on the big lifts. Before that, I could add 2.5-5lbs. to every lift every single workout. Even when I switched to 5lbs. a week I stalled. I was getting sick of the Madcow program and lifting wasn't fun at all anymore. Then, I tried Naturally Enhanced and it shattered every plateau and I'm DEFINITELY not going back lol.

I like that your a regular dude thats jacked an has said fk genetic an grew, my advise to any one is do whats right for you an not to hate on people. Im 43 an my training has changed alot, the only exercise I go balls to the wall is rack pulls, most of my training is chasing the pump like the golden age, just cant bench 500# anymore , im like you tho freaky strong an people say no way a guy your size can do that, but glad u have the video proof to throw in the naysayers faces, keep it up...

    Alex do you think your increased arm measurement could simply be a result of your bulk though? Do you think you'll still keep your arm size when u cut down to around 15% body Fat? On a side note, how much of an increase of waist size do you think is acceptable during a bulk?

    • @AlexLeonidas
      @AlexLeonidas  7 років тому +5

      My arms will definitely lose a bit of size when I cut.
      But to answer your question, no it's not the bulk because I lost weight. I'm only 186 right now.
      As far as waist sizes go, it's hard to say. I think it should not go past 36-40 inches

      Jack K should be a day or two with good nutrition and recovery . Or if you're still a beginner you're likely just sore. You work UP to the heavier and heavier weights over time . You don't jump head first into them because you will injure yourself. Train for years and you will have to go quite heavy to make more progress so there's plenty of time for the real heavy lifts .

      It's all genetics bro but I can tell you that I went from 11.5s to 13.75's in about a year of on and off training using ghetto weight set ups with no actual plan, just random benching and curling. lol. With a proper program you'll probably see the first two inches quickly, (newbie gains) from there it will slowly down significantly....maybe an inch to an inch and a half per year? Again, it's gonna vary widely based on genetics, proper training, proper sleep, and diet.

      I believe curls are necessary for OPTIMAL bicep development, and especially for those who do not have elite genetics for arms.

      AlphaDestiny Brian alsruhe CAN close grip bench 450 and do 185lb weighted pull ups while weighing 240lbs. Of course his arms will be huge.

    best arm advice on yt. Guys like Jason blaha who got small arms, guys on Juice acting like they got their arms natty or guys like Brian alsruhe who have elite arm genetics giving advice on how to get big arms. Alex has shitty arm genetics and still now got those guns. Listen to this guys!!!

    What if you are a novice? Will curls and weighted chins be enough untill you hit intermediate stage?

    What is the best way to keep your shoulder or shoulders from wearing out before being able to get max reps when doing bicep curls? My problem is mostly with my non-dominant arm, my shoulder gets sore before i can get a really good bicep set. Great video like always.

    Hey Alex so I recently bought NE and my high school wrestling season also recently started. For now we have one conditioning a week where we do like legs, or back, chest. How would you recommend for me to fit NE into wrestling? Thanks

    Can you confirm or deny the rumors claiming you would yoke carry a thousand pounds 100 feet in celebration of 100k subs???

      Denied, no access to a yoke and there's a high chance of snapping my shit up if I ever attempted that.

    Hey Alex, great vid as always, I just have a question.
    I'm 18, 5'4, about 136 or so. I played sports throughout high school and lifted on and off, I think I milked my newbie gains.
    I can bench let's say 145 x 5, OHP 110x 5, Deadlift 225x5 (limited by recent thumb surgery Grip strength) and Squat 225 x 5.
    Should I run your novice program? For how long?

    Alex if I'm doing weighted dips/rows & chin ups, what isolations would you recommend? I'm doing fullbody 3x a week. And as for the overload could I do like slingshot dips and such?

    Hey Alex, about a month ago i injured both shoulders. Left recovered fast and the right one is now in a lot of pain. Its so bad that taking off a shirt is painful. It seems to be really rotated in. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks

    Bro problem is not knowing how to train for a certain muscle group or anything... The problem is when doing full body workout, if I focus on one particular muscle group, the other muscle groups fall. For instance I have lagging chest and traps, so I focus on them. Even though my arms are strong point, they fell backwards during my workout routines where I benched and rack pulled firstly. My question would be how to have high strength and energy during the WHOLE workout even in the last sets ? Usually after mid workout I get very exhausted and cannot put enough effort to my last sets. Therefore, first bodyparts progress while last ones fall backwards or lag.

    • @AlexLeonidas
      @AlexLeonidas  7 років тому +1

      Lack of work capacity bro. Or you can take a 10 minute coffee break, then resume.

    • @trbossdoggy
      @trbossdoggy 7 років тому

      Wow actually never tought of that way. Taking 10 minitue coffee break sounds so old school-vintage type of thing to do, and it will still be a full body workout and actually I will recover a lot in 10 minitues, will give it a try man :D
