Mgla aren't angry.. they're just disappointed
Touché!
This universe is full of disappointment..pain..and misery.
Friend much!??
I think it's the opposite: the disappointment leads to angryness.
@@guilhermedaselva4046
Close.
Expectations are what leads to disappointment. Because of our blindness to see the world as it is. Instead we see the promises we give to ourselves and none other can fulfill.
This disappointment leads to frustration which we cannot accept that we are it's makers. And as it burns we grow resentful of those who forced us to endure this pain. Who failed our expectations. We throw burning coals to hurt the others only to burn ourselves in the process.
And this is the anger.
This dudes cymbal work is out of this world
I have no idea how he does that. I can't even do that on air drums :D

Indeed.
"Blessed be the stonecutters, it took a quarry to bury their dreams."
That line hits me in the hardest way.
Yes; and it's different from the first three "Blessed be" lines. There's objects (masks, cross', spikes) in the second lines; here we have dreams.
That's the one that got me too
The simplest true, hit the most! Cheers, from the "Mist" land!
Yes, I`m a stonemason too!
I hope it's "their dreams" and not "the dreams" as other comments and on-screen lyrics indicate. The line is so impactful and horrifying with "their"💪

@Raven Lightwalker what do you need explained?
@@poncho_x4410 Yup. But the thing is I've been following Black Metal and extreme music in general since the 90's. Mgla is a great band, to be sure. But they haven't reinvented the wheel of extreme music, so to speak. It's just that they're one of the few bands these days to release material whose quality reminds us of the good old days. But that's all there is to it. They're really good, but certainly not the best thing since sliced bread. Lol. It's just that people are not really used to high quality Black Metal these days.

The level of the fucking lyrics on this record is beyond any transcendence... I've listened to a thousand metal bands and nothing pierces my soul like this - it's a shame only a few people get to truly understand this. Such an underrated band.
Okay meepo
The lyrics are pretty dark, standard fair for black metal. The difference is he's actually singing notes along with the melody. Whereas other vocalist sound like they're narrating a scene.

I'm so amazed by his work! Killing it!
Not a black metal fan, however I stumbled across this band and have to say this song absolutely froze me to the spot. The chilling and despair of the melody and lyrics are jaw dropping.
Pure nihilism, entwined with hate, vitriol and aggression. Without using to much hyperbole, but this song seemed to let something dark and foreboding slither in the dark parts of my psyche, I didn’t even realise was there.
Horrifying yet exhilarating.
What these guys did was put melody ,harmony and composition of the song over just having strict black metal elements. So yeah, it jams like a symphony of war hammers crushing the undead.
@@violent_bebop9687 melodic black metal is an established genre of black metal
@@alexvermaak1759 - I dont think so, the vocals with many other bands are not in melody with the music. Often sounds like an evil demon speech.
Here the singing is with the melody and in tune, like a rock song.
"Pure nihilism, entwined with hate, vitriol and aggression" ... thats black metal talk right there ;)
I also find it a very mature black metal. How it's supposed to be. No clown stuff or edgelord satanas. Just pure emotions and art coming straight from the heart and soul. This music and especially MGŁA illustrates the loss of faith, nihilism, despair and aggression and lifelong disappointment.
in my experience, when no other music hits, black metal always does the trick
Blessed be the misery, the filth, the discord and the horror
Blessed be the lies, the guilt, the fear, the woe and the betrayal

For these ones come from within

one of the best black metal songs out there, pure awesomeness :)
exercises in futility album it´s one of the best for me!
Iiiiikam
Totally agree, 100th like is from me...
yeah, this song another level
This song takes you places that are transcendent and paradoxically motivational in spite of it's dark fury
This lyrical style, which fousses on despair, negative emotions and evils that are harder to comprehend and more intrinsic in nature is very refreshing, compared to the pure satanic themes that are much to common in the black metal scene.
Of course, satanic themes are not bad per se, and are also fitting for black metal, but to be honest, they are overused, and also often done in a lazy, uncreative way, which relies just on repeating the same keywords and cliches over and over.
Yeah for real. I'm already getting sick of bands that being like: OH LOOK BABY WE ARE THE SATANISTS! SATAN MY LORD I AM YOUR CHILD. On the background of these bands Mgla is a pure jem
I mean, those lyrics are really only common in raw black bands that are going for that whole 90s, 2nd wave black metal gimmick, a lot of newer black metal bands deal with way more than just satanism when it comes to lyrics. Panopticon, Xasthur, Shining, Peste Noire, Midnight Odyssey, just to name a few, deal with society, depression, drugs, nature, countryside life, space etc. See how much variety there is? And these are the more known bands, I didn't even want to start with underground stuff. If you only listen to black metal that deals with boring satanist lyrics, I suggest you search a bit deeper lol
This seems to be focused on a sense of existential "cosmic" horror and despair
You reminded me of ua-cam.com/video/nKS1WTM6fzg/v-deo.htmlm2s ^^
We're all going to die, and our names will be forgotten :P
Ive always felt that darkness and despair pair better as lyrical themes with black metal than the whole Satanist deal. Cold music, cold themes.
The deepest black metal song i've ever heard. The lyrics are genius and the drumming omfg unbelievable!
"It took a quarry to bury the dreams."
Oh my god...
It's been a while since a band has left me speechless...last one was dissection back in day

I'm a metal fan since the early 2000s, when I was a teenager. I started with Nu Metal, moved on to Heavy Metal, on to Thrash Metal, then Metalcore, Deathcore, and Death Metal, but I never liked Black Metal. This band, and this song specifically, opened my mind to Black Metal. I decided to give it a chance, and now I enjoy dozens of Black Metal bands. But these guys, and this album specifically, and this song in particular, will always be my favorite. It's a masterpiece.

One of the fines not just black metal song, but metal songs ever!
This album and espacially this song, is a all-time masterpiece in coldness and melancholy!
its spatial, like the stars speak. I know this band yet, but his sound is like only sound a great band
It is about us man. No melancholy here pretty straight forward message. No surrounding of emotion, emotion is enemy of man.
Not really melacholic to me or im so used to listening to doom.
@@Hellenicheavymetal thats why it sound so genius. Its the blackest of metals. Emotionless.
And here I am, 4 years later, still amazed about how good the lyrics are. So much symbolic, so many messages. So much is told in mere 8 minutes of a single song. Life itself is indeed an exercise in futility. Everything we are comes from within and most of it is bad, really bad.

Great music and great lyrics. Not that ordinary "horror, satan, blood, evil, demons...." shit, but real lyrics with meaning. And this picture fits so perfectly with whole atmosphere of music. Absolute perfection!
Great description and so true!
Couldn't agree more! I adore them. Raw and pure.
This is pure satanism. Especially on their early records (Groza etc.)
whats wrong with "horror, satan, blood, evil, demons...."??
Well nothing, there are just way too many bands who base all of their lyrics on that same mentioned topics and to be honest, it is really boring. Satan, demons etc. are all too well mentioned enough in classic Norweigan black metal and endless bands that copied or followed that style. I find it refreshing when new bands come with new toppics, like Mgla and Batushka, since they base their style and lyrics on eastern (anti) christian (orthodox) and pagan motives that are quite different from western christianity (catholic). For me it is especially interesting since I live in part of Europe where people practicise hard-core orthodox christianity.

I find these men not only Extremely talented. But I find them intelligent as well. I mean read these lyrics. This is wisdom put into lyric unlike I personally have ever heard.
