    Formed in 1985 the Pathfinder Platoon was created to infiltrate hostile territories, gathering vital information and intelligence on the enemy. As well as scouting out safe routes for allied forces, creating Temporary Landing Zones (TLZ) and Drop Zones (DZ). They're the elite reconnaissance regiment of the 16 Air Assault Brigade.
    Similar to the SAS and SBS, Pathfinders are experts in Close Quarter Battle (CQB), High Altitude Low Opening (HALO), High Altitude High Opening (HAHO) and Static Line Parachuting. They're capable of being completely self-reliant for months at a time and can perform sabotage, kill-capture and reconnaissance operations deep behind enemy lines.
    Music: Zack Hemsey - "Mind Heist: Evolution"

    Pathfinder’s radio call sign is Mayhem. Learned this from an ex-Pathfinder Steve Heaney MC who wrote a book with Damien Lewis about his mission in Sierra Leone where 26 of his team were deployed to a remote village to protect it from being over run by an estimated 2000 drug and blood crazed RUF rebels. Captured by them would have meant the villagers either being killed or having limbs chopped off.

    • @artnull13
      @artnull13 4 роки тому +3

      @awi - if you’re using US definitions then in the US Military the only ‘special forces’ are the US Army Special Forces colloquially known as the Green Berets. All other units are SOF - Special operations forces.
      Whilst RM and Paras might be as proficient as fighters compared to Green Berets, the GB’s have a far wider skill set, as they are designed to designed to deploy and execute nine doctrinal missions: unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, direct action, counter-insurgency, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, information operations, counterproliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and security force assistance. I guarantee you a RM or Para don’t do all those things.

    • @PaddyInf
      @PaddyInf 4 роки тому +2

      @@artnull13 Para and RM don't claim to be SF (almost outside the US says SOF). They are simply high readiness infantry forces. The whole question of who is equivalent to whome is bollocks. The UK doesn't have an 'equivalent' to the US Special Forces.

    • @artnull13
      @artnull13 4 роки тому +2

      @Groucho - guess the UK government has been lying to everyone when they claim: The United Kingdom Special Forces (UKSF) is a directorate composed of 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, 21 Special Air Service Regiment, 23 Special Air Service Regiment, the Special Boat Service, the Special Reconnaissance Regiment, the Special Forces Support Group, 18 Signal Regiment and the Joint Special Forces Aviation Wing lmao 😂

    • @PaddyInf
      @PaddyInf 4 роки тому +1

      @@artnull13 And where in there does it mention The Parachute Regiment or the Royal Marine Commandos?
      There's a difference between being under the UKSF umbrella and being a SF unit. Being under command of DSF does not mean you are SF. 18 Sigs Tac Med, SFAW etc are not SF units - They are support elements attached to UKSF. They don't do the UKSF selection course. Therecare some fat knackers running around Hereford who fall under DSF just because they are posted to the support units.

    • @artnull13
      @artnull13 4 роки тому +3

      Groucho - For starters the person I replied to their comment has gone, secondly he had specifically mentioned that the RM and Paras were equivalent to US Special forces specifically GB’s. Thirdly your reply clearly stated that the UK has no special forces equivalent to the US, which isn’t the case. Keep flexing buddy.

    A few facts in this are now actually untrue the pathfinders are no longer joined of purely paratroopers and other members of 16 air assault brigade, selection is open to all serving members of the British army who if they pass selection will re Cap badge as part of the pathfinders unit. As for there selection they carry out the exact same hills phase as the UK special forces so many who chose this do so to be part of this elite unit and never even look at moving on to any other special forces group. These men should be considered as special forces and nothing less as in reality with there selection and level of training that is what they are.

      - nonsense; they do 2 weeks of hills phase (UKSF is 4), and even in that 2 weeks, the marches are not everyday
      - their selection and level of training is far below that of 22 SAS/SBS; 2 weeks of hills, not 4, no jungle whatsoever (often considered the hardest phase), UKSF is 6 weeks of that
