I heard 21st century digital boy on the radio, went to the Rasputin near my house then had to make a decision. Get Against the Grain? Or the All Ages compilation. I got All Ages and it introduced me to not only the back catalog but the artwork inside with all the concert posters introduced me to many other bands. All Ages was my gateway into punk as a kid

Great book, but i do feel it's a bit soulless, like a 300-page wikipedia article... I connected more with punk paradox, and also anarchy evolution (greg's second book). I guess i'll never forgive Hetson's absence in DWYW...

@@Maddhatter22694 I haven’t heard of that one, might check it out if I can find it anywhere! I would definitely recommend Punk Paradox too though, from what I’ve heard the writing style is a lot more personal than Do What You Want, and it’s generally a super interesting read even if you know the history of the band decently well.

Bad religion was one of the bands I knew of because of Tony Hawk soundtracks, growing up in the 90's. Loved all of it, and quickly became one of my favorites. But then, later, Sublime was introduced to my musical diet thru 40 oz. It took me forever to recognize "We're only gonna die" was a cover/reimagining ig. And I loved learning Epitaph's rise to being one of the predominant labels of the era. But now? I never knew that BR had a prog album? Of all things... Imma go listen to it now. Thank you oh Wise Jack for this enlightenment. I can't wait for the rest. Bad Religion is a group that will always stand the rest of time. 40 or more years, just like Rush. Thanks man ✌️

I was a freshman HS staying at my new friends house when I first heard the original ep. It'd just come out. Damn, that the Dickies white vinyl gigantor, and banana splits 10 inches and Code of Honor/ Sick pleasure we the weekends soundtrack. Oh, Id brought black market clash and a cassette of what would become walk among us. This was so fortunate as a farm boy from the boonies I was smart enough to get accepted to hs outside new hope pa. Which is weensville and Regressive aid territory. The think I loved about the bad religion was how rapid fire they were putting out material. It was so common back in the early 80's for bands to release 2 45's, an EP and a record or two in the same year. And it kept going until the early 90's. In the 50's an 60's band had muti record deals so no one blinked at the stones or Beatles hammering hit after hit out. The I remember digging on the RHCPs early stuff, reminded me of NY no wave approach but there were no singles and it took years for them to put out uplift after freaky. That became the norm. At least grunge bands kept the singles rolling. Bomber tried to get us on Epitaph in 91 when he did his Slang, RkL reactivate record. Brett was cool but too many Gilman street, bay area punk PC Nazis yelling at you to put your cigarette out while still in diapers. After 12 years of going to shows and rnr shows before these kids were even able to prax their Gilman PC boo hoo and celebrate themselves, the last thing I wanted was Tim from Rancid looking down his nose at me as I killed a 40 before playing with the Judy bloom, and NOFX. I was all over so many scenes but I'll give Epitaph credit and esp Brett. He had the balls to sign Thelonious monster when Jane's was still unsigned.
To this day I still sing frogger often. It's important to stay true and hang in. Loved watching shows where no two bands were alike. Even at the IBeam and Screaming Trees opened for Rollins. Two bands that shouldn't even be in the same room. Esp lanagan and Rollins egos were about to peak. I look at 90's" punk" as bubblegum pop but at least it put coin in several bands that had been there early on and could now cash in. Jesus I need to focus.

what's up ! I love your videos, and since I'm from Argentina I wanted to tell you about one of my favorite bands from here, their name is fun people, it's really interesting since they were the first positive hardcore band in Argentina, because of their independent way of management and their messages!!
sadly, they no longer play since the 2000s, but their latest members still remain in the singer's (nekro) solo project, which is called boom boom kid.

Its hard to convey the reaction people had to the logo t-shirts n '82. America was still by and large Christian so wearing this shirt was the equivalent of taking a crap on the alter. People were violently opposed. Kids used to get jumped which is why we used to go everywhere in a group at night. It could get very violent. Great video thank you.

I have been a BR fan for the last 30 years (I'm 43 now) and I consider them to be my 2nd favorite band. BUT, dude, their 1st album..and the earlier recordings are absolutel awful. The seeds were there..but they still couldn't write or play and the production was atrocious. It just shows that skills continue to develop when the potential is there. Look at them now. You can't get any better. Getting Brian Baker was what really put them over the top, imo. They had the songwriting of Graffin and Brett, but the musicianship just wasn't there until Baker joined.
