Hi, there is no coding clinic that I am aware of that addresses this issue. I would recommend a query to have the provider clarify the CKD Stage specifically as this documentation is ambiguous.

Hi im new to ur channel and was wondering if u can give me an auditor perspective on how to code the below plz.
If the provider documents ‘dm with ckd stage 2 & dm with microalbinminuria’ would we code E11.22, N18.2, E11.29, R80.9 or because the microalbinminuria is integral to nephropathy which codes to E11.21 would it be accurate to only code the dm with ckd? Appreciate the help in advance 😊

Hi! You would only code the diabetic ckd. As you said, microalbuminuria is inherent to diabetic nephropathy, and the ckd is the specific type of nephropathy, so no additional code is needed.

Hi! ICD 10 CM is used for diagnosis coding. ICD 10 PCS is used for inpatient procedure coding.
