I believe this song was written over 100 years ago. It is a beautiful ballad, and so many singers have covered. My grandfather would sing this every St. Patrick's day as the sun set. We are Irish, and this is very much related to Ireland. Great reaction, and glad you loved it!
My Dad used to sing it too! Every St. Patrick's Day, after the parade people would go bar to bar and they'd make my Dad sing it so many times that he'd lose his voice. It makes me think I should find a way to record him for a great memory to look back on.
Dave - Austin gave us a wonderful rendition of this classic (ironically, written by a Brit, not an Irishman as most folks assume). So glad you recognized the piano player for his most beautiful playing - supporting musicians deserve occasional shout outs too.
This song was the backdrop when they honored all the NYPD & NYFD that perished on 9/11 as they showed every profile picture of those amazing men as the song played ….. Truly chilling. Lest we not forget.
The Lyrics for this song were written by an Englishman named Frederic Wetherley in 1910, from an Old Irish song named 'Londonderry Air'. Like Greensleeves, the actual composer is unknown. But this song has been recorded by more than 1000 performers World Wide, including, Frank Sinatra, Luciano Pavarotti, Barbra Streisand etc.
I really wish Austin had done more verses, but I'll take what he did give us. Which was such a gentle, emotional verse. This goes beyond goosebumps. It gives me full on shivers along with tears and goosebumps. And, I understood "all of that" that you were saying with your hands and facial expressions while trying to verbalize what Austin made you feel. Such an overwhelming feeling in the very best of ways!
Amberly Hall is Austin's queen (soul mate), she does the camera work for lots of his videos. Austin has such a warm, smooth, velvety voice and Sebastian is just great with his piano playing. Yes, is it way too short. Thanks for the reaction.
My one complaint about this is that it's too short. I love the use of silence and anticipation in this arrangement, and that Austin chose to use his natural Georgia accent instead of suppressing it.
Dave, this song is about as Irish as it gets. At Duffy's Tavern, the best St Patrick's hangout ever, at 9pm sharp the crowd sings this and it is glorious, more than 1,000 folks singing this in chorus
This song always makes me cry because it's always played at our extended families' and friends funerals...saying good bye to our loved ones (we just happen to be Irish). It's also played at Fire and Police funerals, especially in the Northeastern U.S.
So good, so pretty. This song gets me everytime. Love the lyrics. I think it’s a very old song. Loved Austin and Sebastien’s piano playing was wonderful. Great reaction Dave.
Danny Boy is a traditional Irish (I think) song. I’m not certain who wrote it. Sam Robson has a nice acapella version of Danny Boy which can show you a different, more traditional style. I prefer Austin’s but it is still excellent
Amberly is Austin's girlfriend and she's doing the filming. This is a very old Celtic song and very well known. Your reaction is always great. I can't believe how well he is able to sing the older songs he's been doing.
I know what you're saying, it left you speechless. Did you catch the hush sound when he sang hushed? Such beautifully painted! So much soul, so much heart. Those highs, those lows. And how about Sebastien on keys!!!? It makes me want more, so much more! Thank you for a great reaction! 🥰🙏
This is one of my favorites from Austin. Sebatean (sp.) accompanies him on several songs and is an expert at bringing out Austin's vocals. If you haven't heard it yet, you should check out Austin's cover of Bring Him Home. It really shows his musical theater training and is absolutely amazing!
This song became popular in America during the Irish potato famine. It's about a mother lamenting he son emigrating to America and she would never see him again. It's possible that it's older than that, but that's when it became an Irish-American anthem. The famine was from 1845 to 1852. The population of Ireland dropped by about 25% due to starvation, disease, and emigration.
This is a very ancient Irish/Scottish folk song. I am not sure if anyone really knows when it was written. You will hear several interpetations of the meaning, but the pipes that are calling are Scottish bagpipes. So the origins are somewhat fuzzy, but it is an absolutely beautiful song. I have heard it covered many many times, but this is by far the Best, Austin voice has everything. Thanks for a wonderful emotional reaction, you have always been one of my favorite reactors.
Beautiful! I love Austin’s voice. As everyone has already told you, this is an Irish ballad. If you’d like to hear a beautiful Irish tenor sing this song watch Emmet Cahill. He sings it live with just a piano player. There have been 852 thousand views of it. I hope you’ll react to it. It’s only fair to listen to an Irishman sing an Irish song😊
The song was written from the perspective of a mother saying goodbye to her son as he left for the Battle of Culloden in Scotland

You definitely should record your Dad!! What an awesome legacy for him to leave his loved ones ♥️
A beautiful rendition of this song. Austin has such an incredible voice
I can never get tired of listening to Austin
"Danny Boy" is a ballad, written by the English songwriter Frederic Weatherly in 1913, and set to the traditional Irish tune "Londonderry Air".
I love the expression on your face. It's priceless
A touching song of grief. Austin did well. Excellent reaction for an excellent song.
Austin definitely makes you feel the lyrics!!💗

I just go into the ozone when Austin solos! Bring Him Home brings me to tears! 💖

Austin does memory songs so well, it comes packaged with feels and emotions.

Great reaction!! My favorite version is the instrumental by Glenn Miller from 1940, but my dad sang a wonderful Danny Boy.
Delicate up to powerhouse! Our Austin!
So beautiful. Your reaction was perfect too. I thought I was going to cry.

Watching you let that beautiful voice surround you like a warm blanket was great.
I watched the video and I can say that it definitely was an awesome video
I was early again! Also It was an awesome video!
love the feeling in Austin's singing and your reaction!
This is more of his show tune style. I have been waiting a long time for more like this. Love it!!!
All I know is ai believe it’s an old Irish song. Austin sang it beautifully and perfectly!
You need to watch this video … God Bless Americans….So sad. Thank you all for your sacrifices 😔♥️

He did a beautiful tribute to this song.
Perfection!

My first reaction..... So pretty.
Danny boy is one of the most famous folk songs ever, if not period.
Amberly is Austin's girlfriend and she's doing the filming. This is a very old Celtic song and very well known. Your reaction is always great. I can't believe how well he is able to sing the older songs he's been doing.
If ya listen to the words...the pipes meaning bagpipes. It even feels Irish 🍀
I know what you're saying, it left you speechless. Did you catch the hush sound when he sang hushed? Such beautifully painted! So much soul, so much heart. Those highs, those lows. And how about Sebastien on keys!!!? It makes me want more, so much more! Thank you for a great reaction! 🥰🙏
Love to hear you sing

His cover of Unchained Melody is beautiful

Your hands waving, I pictured pompoms! A very appropriate reaction - this is one of the best renditions of this song I've heard, and I'm Irish *lol*
To the tune of Londonderry Air, a song played by a lone fiddler. The song was sent to a friend who needed music to a beautiful lyric
❤❤❤
It's a traditional Irish song written in 1913. It's a great song!

There is no original, at least not recorded, it is an ancient Scottish folk song that everyone knows and sings, it’s one of those that everyone covers
hey dave could you react to home free's brothers in arms? it didn't have a music video but I think it is one of their best.
Peter Hollins has a cover thats good as well
Peter hollers has done it along with many others
I know the medley because someone set it to a hymn as well... I cannot remember what the hymn is called though ❤🙏
Ps. It is called "I cannot tell"
Please always play Austin's video to the very end as he usually has a message to share.
Noted.
It’s on the same level of hallelujah
Amberly Hall is Austin"s girlfriend . Danny Boy is a Irish Folk song use to be my Mothers fav. song
Now you just need to read Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series and you'll be an expert on Culloden!
Austin has a beautiful voice but you must listen to Elvis the King
Yoy should listen to Jonn McDermontt’s version. In my opinion the absolute best rendition of this song
The pipes he refers to are bagpipes
It’s an Irish tune. Very old song
Harry Bellefonte does it best
