- In this video, we will show how to safely remove the interior ceiling console in the 2019, 2020, and 2021 Toyota RAV4 Trail / Adventure (other trims may have a different ceiling console, therefore removal steps may be different). We will also replace stock Halogen bulbs with brighter LEDs.

is there a way to change the bulbs with out removing all the console, and only the semitransparent plastic cover below the bulbs?
Thanks for this, but FYI I found an easier way.
For the front 'map' lights covered in this video (these are the most difficult by far): When I was pulling down on the assembly on our 2020 RAV4 Limited (U.S.), I found that it's easier to remove the plastic 'frame' covering the head unit WITHOUT pulling down the entire assembly (and potentially damaging the clips). This frame is attached to the assembly by clips all around, but once that's off you can get the clear light covers off with a screwdriver (there's an interior tab that can't be accessed w/o removing the frame), and simply pull out the bulb. Once the new bulb is in, be sure to check the polarity before reassembling.
A few other tips for the other lights:
I only needed to swap out the following interior lights (total of 6, 5 were standard plug in, 1 festoon style):
(1) 2x 'map lights (front seat): See above
(2) 2x vanity lights (front seat): These covers pop off, but you can also pop out the whole assembly. If the latter, pull from the inside edge and you'll see the white clip holding it in place.
(3) 1x dome light (rear seat): I found the replacement bulb is a little too big as it's a non-standard bulb. I still got the new LED festoon bulb to fit (a little bending), but it isn't as solid as I hoped since it doesn't have the little locking ends the factory one does.
(4) 1x trunk light (cargo area): The whole assembly pops out, but the back cover to access the bulb is a pain. Basically you'll need something like a small nail, screwdriver, or drill bit to wear down the round pin-like protrusion holding one side of the sliding assembly in place. After popping the two mini-clips near the center, you'll need to push and twist the mini-toll of choice on the other side to get the back cover to slide off. There's a UA-cam video about this elsewhere ('replacing trunk light on 2020 RAV4' will find that video).
The other interior lights I found (front seat trays, footwell lights, cupholder lights) all seem to be LED already. Also, the license plate lights also seem to be LED already.
The lights I purchased were from eBay, 10 x Xenon White Interior LED Lights Package For 2016 - 2020 Toyota RAV4 + TOOL fro seller rbautolighting. There are more lights than I needed, but it comes with a bone tool (a necessity to avoid damaging your interior). You'll also need a flathead screwdriver, scissors to cut open the package, something to help pursh out the cover of the trunk light assembly, and a headlamp is helpful.
How did you pry the plastic frame off without removing the entire unit?

Just got a full kit for my brand new Blizzard Pearl Rav4 hybrid limited and wow, its a huuuge difference with your leds on the inside and outside! I can see easily inside the car and the turn signals are so bright they are blinding!

The part number for the clip is 90467-09240.
You can remove the lens covers with a trim removal tool. No need to remove the whole panel assembly to change the bulbs.

A buddy of mine has a '20 RAV4 and the rear design is different.
If a clip breaks, you can NOT replace the clip. You have to replace the whole unit and that is not cheap.
SO BE CAREFUL ON THE '20'S.

A buddy of mine said the dealer told him to be careful on this, since the clips were not replaceable.
The four clips must now be molded with the unit.

Btw.. Helpful hint. You don't have to remove the whole panel to change the courtesy lights. The plastic light covers easily come out with a trim removal tool.
Yes, the map light plastic covers can be removed by using a trim removal tool on the inside edge of both covers. There are two plastic nubs that need to be popped out of position for each cover.
You can just pry out the clear plastic cover instead, saves a lot of time
Don’t rush to upgrade to the brightest bulbs! Remember, these are often turned on at night, while driving, and can make it very hard to see out, while also making it hard for your eyes to re-adjust back to the darkness.

I have a Toyota corolla 2011 conquest, and I used trim tool and try to pull the console off from the front as you demonstrate, but it seemed really tight and I did not want to use too much force to break it, could you give any hint? thanks.
I'm surprised on this design that you can not just remove the plastic lens cover to replace the bulbs.
So were we. It might depend on the trim level as well as the release date. Since this car was purchased shortly after its introduction. This one for example doesn't have towing eyelets, even though it is trail/adventure trim.

@@MorozovAutomotive Can you please do a tutorial on how to remove the entire headliner? I'm trying to replaced my flush roof rails with the raised ones from Adventure trim but that require the removal of the headliner to get to the bolts.
I was able to get the console down, but also broke the clip. I went to a Toyota dealer. The parts guy said the clips are only available the with console and not sold separately. I will try another dealer of on-line. The clip I got from AutoZone was close, but there is a slight gap between the console and headliner.

You do not have to remove the whole console. The lights covers pop out from the sides. There are many videos on UA-cam showing this.

How do people do the map light panel led chipset that comes with that certain kit?
People pry open the cover underneath the bulb. The problem with this way of doing it is that at least in our trim there is a plastic pin that blocks removal of this cover. If you do, it will break and the cover won't be as stable as before. Because of this we decided not to do it this way.
Those bulbs are too bright. I recommend using 168/194 led bulbs instead.
Меня бесят кнопки включения/выключения света водителя/пассажира, почему не сделать как на старых рав4 жмёшь на стекло и свет включается/выключается. Рука постоянно жмёт стекло лампы)) Пересел с 3го поколения рав4, осталась привычка)

Вопрос от непонимающего в электрике - заменив салон на лед, возможно ли что-то напортачить с напряжением, в результате чего что нибудь перегорит, и машина слетит с гарантии?
Нет. По хорошему должен перегореть предохранитель.
Да, напартачить можно, у обычной лампы только - 1 неисправность, это обрыв. А у ЛЕД возможно КЗ. Если выходные ключи ЭБУ напрямую управляют такими цепями, то ключи эти (выходные транзисторы) сгорят.

I assume you don't take into account the fact that they can make different consoles for different trims and markets. It's clearly explained in the video that in our case there are black blocking pins that prevent removal of the covers.
Unbelievable the buttons don't light up at night same as the window and door lock buttons on the doors! How cheap and embarrassing of Toyota to do that
