Hey all, I know we are a little bit behind the curve on this, but we thought this lens was worth talking about and we had this in our production pipeline before we got sidetracked by the C400! Quick kit will be live Sunday, and again thank you for watching! Jake
I’m at dinner right now with my assistant (wife). I shall play this on the big screen when we get home and make sure we are both paying attention. Brb.
I can't believe sigma hasn't released something akin the the 18-35 for mirrorless aps-c. They've had 11 years! I'm even more amazed that Fuji hasn't released something similar; they have a million reason to make one, unlike Sony/Canon/etc who concentrate on full-frame.
@@bbrunorochaThey could make it smaller, lighter, since they don't need a retro-focus design due to the shorter flange distance. Faster focusing (linear motor) and making it for mounts that didn't exist back then (like sony e-mount); using it with an ef-e mount adapter isn't exactly the best autofocus experience. I'd say that's some pretty worthwhile changes. Not needing another inch of adapter on the front of the camera alone would be great, and hardly small things, in the modern competitive lens market.
Thanks for the detailed video. It would not be wrong to call it a new FF 18-35 f1.8. The smooth aperture movements are impressive. I think there is no need to worry about the Art series, which has proven its optical success.
Such a cool lens, but sadly the focus by wire is a dealbreaker. I dont know why they did that compared to the 18-35 at least having it mechanical. Now using a follow focus is impossible. Having no hardstops was a little anoying on the 18-35, but by wire makes is unusable in many situations
I'm surprised nobody talks about or even mentions Sigma 24-35 f/2, which is actually Full-Frame EF mount and has much better value than 28-45. I picked one up used for $400 last year.
If I'm buying a zoom lens, I'm buying versatility and flexibility. And the compromise I make are the aperture and bokeh. But if I buy a zoom and compromise on versatility and flexibility, what's the point? Not sure why you would want this over the 24-70mm. The impact of having 1.8 over 2.8 on fullframe, in the usual context of using a zoom lens, wouldn't add anything over the ability to reframe more extensively.
Ehhh...at least the 18-35 was ROUGHLY a 2X zoom. This doesn't even zoom that much. At that point, you might as well just buy two primes. If it were 28-56, then it could get interesting. But, really, Canon has thrown down the gauntlet with the 28-70mm f2 and the 24-105mm f2.8. Yes, they are expensive, but they are extremely versatile.
With the E mount both on the still/hybrid cameras (from the NEX to the current Alpha lineup) and professional cameras, to their cinema line... With your lens testing I would be interested in seeing how their 14mm f/1.4 performs. There is also the new 50mm f/1.2 Art. The lenses are getting brighter!
I really REALLY wish they made an EF version of this lens. Many of us prefer the versatility of using an RF body (C70/Komodo) and having the option of using a speedbooster with FF lenses.
The tamron f2-2.8 is eating this lens up If it was 24-50 it would have been the perfect full frame lens for videos Then you would only need a wide angle and tele prime lens to couple it for shoots
Full frame 18-35mm interesting. 28-45mm not so much. How are these lenses actually related? And why does the thumbnail list the first lens when the video is about the 2nd? (Yeah, I got the APS-C connection but that’s not in the thumbnail. “Full Frame” is.) I don’t get it.
the sigma 18-35mm had three basical lenses in one, 14mm, 24mm and 35mm. With this 28-45mm, i am seeing just one; 35mm. Had it been it was 28-55mm, fine and good!!!
Hi CVP! Love your videos. Just a bit of constructive feedback: I had seen a bunch of videos about the 28-45mm f1.8 -- how it's their successor to the 18-35, etc -- but because of the thumbnail on your review -- I actually misunderstood and clicked expecting to see a new lens, an actual full frame 18-35, not just the 18-35 equivalent. Nothing major, and honestly, it's probably more my dumb ignorance than anything, and the review was still spot on, but perhaps that data could be useful next time when you title something.
I think this lens is going to sell terribly. The 18-35 was useful because apsc users needed the extra light because of unforgivable high iso noise in apsc sensors. Full frame users just don’t need a f1.8 zoom with a limited range. Sigma should have just updated their old 18-35 for e mount, l mount, and rf mount and they would have made a ton of money.
I don’t see this as a success to the crop 18-35…. Considering the full frame equivalent would be 27-52mm f/2.7… which 28-70mm lenses already exist…. This to me is simply an additional masterpiece that stands on its own as it has a short range yet faster. I would by this as a companion specialty lens, not replacing my trusty 18-35… On yountests can you measure the furthest practical distance to talent for critical focus…. In most cases The 1835q performs best at short distance of 15m or less without hunting. Thanks for all the great content…. There’s another one for the shopping basket…
RF version for what? there is a better one from Canon and as of today Sony has it's own version....Priced at max 1000euros vat inclued and might sell....
Listen man, I don't know who controls the amount on this but there has been two sets of two 15 second ads within the space of 2 mins. Please look into sorting this out. Your business doesn't need the revenue from UA-cam

The only thing sharper than that lens is Jakes haircut
I kinda wondered the same thing lol
Can't believe how sharp it looks.
...the lens is cool too.

Haha
Reviews a full frame but his hair is cropped

It would wreck their dc dn sales
despite the age, the 18/35 is still an awesome lens, there is little to no change to it, it's an awesome lens at a great price.
@@bbrunorochaThey could make it smaller, lighter, since they don't need a retro-focus design due to the shorter flange distance.

@@SCrowley91 oh i see, i use it on ef cameras and don't use auto focus, so we have different uses.

nice haircut jake
This probably will be less popular, because fullframe cameras struggle less in lowlight. I'd probably choose a 24-70 2.8 over this.

그건 니 생각이고😂
The 24-35 is even more useless
@@JJARCHIE But for 1/2 to 1/3 of the price, it's pretty useful as two f/2 primes.
For me the main thing I like about the new 28-45 is the internal zoom, if the 24-35 had the same, I'd agree with you.
@@JohnDoe-me6vm ffs plz google. 24-35 f/2 is internal zoom. 24-35 T2.2 is the cine version.

Those canon lenses are garbage though. Expensive plastic fantastic lenses
CVP continously blesing us
Deng Jake must pull a bunch of baddies
No GH7 review? This lens is very interesting at the price point but would've been a no brainer if it went to 24mm on the wide end.
They should do a 35-70mm 1.8. Thats more like it.
Theres the 2870 f2
35-85 f/2
i love the haircut jake!
Amazing colors

Now we need a C70 + 0.71x adapter + 28-45mm VS standard adapter + 18-35mm!
The 18-35 is 11 years old now, hard to believe. I think for Canon, the 28-70 would maybe outshine it a bit but at a cost.
I really REALLY wish they made an EF version of this lens. Many of us prefer the versatility of using an RF body (C70/Komodo) and having the option of using a speedbooster with FF lenses.
Sigma EF 24-35 f/2 is the closest you'll get.
The tamron f2-2.8 is eating this lens up

Sigma is more than we thinking about it. Bravo!
Picked it up and I love the lens. I also love the haircut.
Man that size is a killer. Looks good but damn!
I still use the original F1.8 EF. When I changed to Sony, I bought an adapter for E-mount. I am thinking about the new one.... let's see☺
How loud is it in AF with a close subject? The old art lenses were so loud that a shotgun mic could still pick it up.
It’s quiet when I tested it

Sigma 24-35 f/2 completed ignored by these reviewers.
I wish it came in an EF mount.
Same. Maybe we’ll get lucky with an EF cine version
Patiently waiting on the Ursa Cine 12k review
I want it and the new 24-70MK2 😭 thanks for the great video as always.

People have been ignoring Sigma 24-35 f/2
outstanding trim young man
No EF is big sadge. From the photos it appears that the rear element is pretty recessed, so I do not think it would be impossible …
Ef is a dead mount

and now 50-85 f/1.8 and we have a set!
35-85 f/2 would be my pick.
get shocked by how the technology are crazy now day
I do think they will also release an 65-100mm 1.8 like the 50-100mm 1.8.
Also why not dream about a 16-25 1.8 :)
I know the E mount is more popular but Sigma needs to also take in consideration Nikon Z mount.
Probably a licensing issue with Nikon. Same with canon holding back the RF.
can you use it with the recent Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K without needing an adaptor?
Yes
looks like you could bludgeon someone to death with that thing. gonna be a bit front heavy if you try putting it on a little mirrorless body

Ok who kpopped Jake’s hair?
I like your cut G
Focus by wire on e-mount is a bitter pill to swallow!
I love you guys. That is all
1.8 zoom is nice but the range is not here nor there. I would take 24-50 2.8 over this one.
Too wide in my opinion.
28-105 f2 would be a fine one
