Thanks for the play through... I have video suggestion for these type of card games... have a camera on Dave's cards, so we can play along with him and get more out of the watch through. On Dave's turn you can show his cards to the camera, while he makes a decision. It would give us a better feel for the game/strategy/struggles/fun. Thanks for the game!
I had the same thought. May be a little tricky in terms of the tech (and annoying for editing) , but in a hidden information game like this, it would really be nice to know what one of the players is holding so we get a better feel for why our "featured player" is groaning and cheering when a card emerges. Sometimes a really useful card is played and the player rushes to scout, but they don't scout + show, and may wait 3 turns to reveal why they were so excited. By that point, you've forgotten the moment when they grabbed that key card. Makes it hard to track the clever plans and strategies people are deploying--or when they abandon Plan A for a new Plan B. Still, this was a really fun video.
Woot SDJ nominee content - and a wild Murph has appeared! Love Dave’s honesty on being great at shuffling but struggling when sleeved. I really enjoy watching the video closely for the first 20 minutes then I’ll often cook or do gardening while mostly just listening as these are so good for getting the “feel” of an actual play. Thanks BGG 👍
This is an interesting trick taking game. It almost seems like someone should have come up with this concept before...either beat the hand or take away a card, which makes the hand weaker for the next players. So simple, but such a great concept.
Thank you all for this playthrough! It was fun and useful to learning the game and seeing how it plays. From this I think I like the game and will try playing it on BGA.
I've gotten to play this a couple times and I love it. I love old classic card games like Spades or Cribbage. This is basically just one step higher in complexity with the double sided cards but it's very simple and clever at the same time.
Thankfully, the Oink collection of games on the Switch eShop released Scout in their game menu. Got the game for only $5 and it was a steeeeeeeeal. This game is so much fun. I don't win much in the Oink games because either the computer is super cut throat, or I'm just terrible at Oink games in general lol. Thanks for the upload. Watching this play physically makes me want the game a second time
Super excited to see this one played! Been interested in it. Also, it took me a good 20 seconds to figure out what Daves hand was doing holding up the box. Haha.
Played it with my game group and it went over really well. It's weird though, this is a reprint but the original Scout-game never got the attention and play that the Oink-version has received.
Have you tried the app? It's pretty fun. I just wish there were more players online because it is much more fun to play against other people than against the computer.
In the rulebook there is no rule about 2x 2s are stronger than 2x1s. Only more cards can win the trick. Update: only in text but no illustration with this situation 😀
This game looks great. These playthroughs cost me a fortune as I often find myself wanting to buy them afterwards. Just waiting for it to become available in the UK There's no talk about the theme though. Not sure how this links in with the big top artwork?
The theme is supposed to be you are "scouting" potential members of your circus and each card is a member, one number is their rating on one event while flipping is their rating on another event. For example - Kenneth may be a 6 on the unicycle but he could be a 9 on the trapeze so that card is a 6 one way and a 9 the other. When they are played and you scout a card you are recruiting that member to your show so you could scout that 9 and make a great straight that makes your show unbeatable. The theme is very thin but doesn't take away from the fun of this game at all. We've almost worn our copy out because we are against sleeving trick taking games.
When hearing the how to play, I was a little hesitant on it as there is no arranging. Aft watching, actually seems interesting though it kinda depends on luck sometimes
Random question, that I don't think anyone mentioned: Isn't the choice of shapes on the point chits as well as the names/items on cards make it easier for those with issues with readability?
Are those sleeved, or laminated? The cards look perfectly centered in each one, I’d have second thoughts about sleeving a game where you flip the cards back-and-forth so much.
Based on watching this video, I feel like it should (like dominos), add cards same no on both ends (maybe put a double stripe to indicate it is same no.)
I played this at a local con a few weeks ago. While I can see the appeal, it felt more luck-based than I like. If someone got a strong opening hand, they could go out in just a few turns, which happened about half the time.
"I didn't get a 'harumph!' outta that guy." r/unexpectedblazingsaddles XD Really enjoyed this. Y'all have great chemistry and I love how Dave teaches a game. Can't wait to play my copy!
Matthew, in the past I have purchased their stuff on Miniature Market, Amazon and the local store when we are in Dallas. Miniature Market has a lot of their stuff on sale right now because they are moving to a new warehouse. I really love their stuff and consider ourselves fortunate to have them as our sponsor.-Thanks for the note and for watching-Lincoln
As a lefty I don't get Lincoln's complaint. Most standard card decks only fan one way as well so I learned to fan my cards so they work. Where are these people who grew up with bidirectional cards?
It's actually not my complaint. This was what the SdJ jury folks were saying was an issue. Nikki does graphics for board games and we have thought about it a lot and I am confused as well about that complaint. If you don't see what you want fan them the other direction. Thanks for the note and for watching.-Lincoln
I'm also a lefty who only ever fanned my cards the "right" way. I never thought of the card design being left or right because you can fan them the same way no matter which hand you use. -WEM
It could be that if the numbers were on both corners the player could switch the order by fanning either way throughout the round. Either by accident or intentionally. Great show!
I think it's important to consider accessibility issues like this for people who might learn or think differently. Good point to bring up, whether or not it affects a lot of people.
In my version of the rules, it's under Show, Rule 1, "When playing consecutive numbers, the numbers can either be in ascending or descending order." There's also examples, showing a 56, a 43, and a 321.
I think that they went through all of their copies quickly, especially once it was nominated. It's not even available in Japan. I did see the original edition is available on Amazon.co.jp for $16 plus shipping, which is cheaper than the Oink Games version. I've ordered stuff from there many times and the stuff gets to the US pretty quickly. The one really nice thing about the original version is the cards are very nice plastic but seem like they might scratch from lots of use. Thanks for the note and for watching-Lincoln
Oink Games has mentioned that the game is out of stock in the U.S. at the moment, and another print run will be coming. Oink does plan to attend Gen Con 2022 and bring over supply from Japan for that show. -WEM
I hope y'all continue to keep these ads simple! I like them so much better than ads in other channels. I might have missed it, but do yall have a code to use on their website to show that we learned about them from your channel??
Thanks for your note! We don't have a code because Gamegenic does not have an online store. We are working on something that would be awesome if it comes to fruition. We will let everyone know if it does. Thanks again for your note and for watching.-Lincoln
@@boardgamegeek oh, I was not aware of that. I hope they get an online store! Their products look amazing!!! Thank you for responding and thank you for the videos!!!!

There seems to be an inbuilt design flaw in this game. The fact that most people play cards sitting opposite each other makes it too easy to mistake which number on the card is the side "up" and in play each round. It would be easier to play this game with all players sitting on one side of the table, looking at the cards the same way up. Apart from that, it looks like fun.

Gosh that Nick Murphy guy sure is handsome!
Just wait till you see his brother
Awooga
Gotta say, the Gamegenic ads interest me and are short and well done, not breaking the flow.
This game is so good!
The fact that comes in the oink games size box is just an additional bonus!
I wish the box was a tad bigger.

This looks like a fun easy game.
In round 3 didn’t Nikki have negative 1 point? I believe they gave her a +1 point token.
was going to say same thing
The tokens are double sided. Every plus one token has a negative one token on the back
I think Scout is absolutely amazing, but i may be biased haha

Seems Dave forgot to wear a hat, lol
Are you aloud to scout if there is only one card in the middle I thought you couldn’t
Absolutely. The rules say "After Scouting, as long as there is at elast 1 card remaining ..." clearly indicating that i can also be 0 remaining.
You can't Scout (take) one card because if you did there wouldn't be "at least one card remaining. "

My suggestion is you make it nice & clear who scored what each round & what the running scores are.

Jake, dang it's in the description but I put a period and not a colon. Thanks for pointing that out-Lincoln
I don’t think you can “scout” just one card.
That wasn't a trick taking game. A trick is where each person plays one card, like bridge.
Correct
UNO more fun than that! 😅
