What's worse is when TDS infects a mind that should know better. My ex-friends are Christians, she hated Trump so much that it came to a point where she threatened to divorce him if he voted for Donald. That is a microcosm of why the friendship with him didn't last. He and I got along, but he's married to her, so I get it, he has to side with her, in effect, but it's still just sad and ridiculous how all kinds of relationships divide over politics or religion. As an acquaintance told me the other day, he being a Conservative and his brother being Far Left, they don't argue politics: Family First. Some people are doing the right thing, anyway.

I wish I’d never been captured by leftist ideologies, which consumed me for more than half my life. You bet, sometimes if not most times evil isn't easy to see, it disguises itself as "doing good" and I understand the attraction, but it's now becoming obvious to any thinking person with, if you have the will, all the info out there that the left has become not liberal but evil division. Welcome to the team from a former "liberal" myself, although for personal reasons seeing the machine up close it was a long time ago. Keep your eyes open and your chin up.

You aren't a victim though, you rose above being a victim and fought one of the single worst Americans on a very public stage and won. I feel a pride that, while perhaps odd and not deserved for me to feel, is very real and very strong. You've become one of my favorite commentators due to your calm demeanor and willingness to attempt to bridge the gaps in our fractious society. 2010 is when social media really took hold with the youth of America and they reduced in person socializing, and when they arrived at college they were shocked at the ability of other people to say things that offended them they begin to demand changes in culture. There was a kind of unexposed naïveté to that when they got to college, they were exposed to so many different points of view and they decided to try to snuff out half of them. Also youth mental health and happiness went really wrong at that same time.

And Mr Shellenberger, I am quite conservative, and having you and Matt Taibbi (who's substack I subscribe to) are very important to have on the periphery to keep an eye on the Right's worst tendencies and to have the respect of the right to call us out when we go too far. We ignore it when the left calls us out because they hate us. But if you or Taibbi were to say something, very many of us would listen.
