  • We replace a scale on our badly worn Makita cordless miter saw. The stock scale is worn and badly needing replacement.

It seems easier if you pull the top parts of the miter fence off, clamp a square on then place the scale, maybe? I'm gonna try on mine.

Not sure what the best way is yet. Purchasing a truing blade with no teeth would probably be the best. The fact is the saw has been put to use constantly since making that video. I fully intended on getting a true zero but haven’t made the time. Appreciate the comment.

How are the secondary fences? Do they line up with the lower fences and are they square/90 to the table?

There are definitely better ways to check calibration.

OK, now I'm worried. The cover was still bungeed back the blade was fully exposed. Then you proceeded to cross your left hand to hold the board. Slid the saw and did the cardinal sin. Maybe if you would have even said hey kids don't do this at home I would have probably still commented. Everyone please use your left hand to turn on the saw and use the right hand to hold the board. Crossing over your hands is a sure fore way to get you to the ER. Have a turnacit ready.

I really don’t know what to say. 1st I’m sensing sarcasm here but since I don’t entirely remember what’s in the video maybe I did do all these unforgivable actions. I do appreciate the turnacit offer when I need it in the future. Appreciate the comment 😀.

No sarcasm. I worked in a lumber mill for twenty years I have loss of hearing to prove it. Lol. I have seen horrible accidents and this one seemed to be one that I hated to see. God bless ya man. Working with power tools we must know where our hands are at all times. It's at 8:45.

Thanks for the info though. I just bought a used one and wondered why there was an extra slotted dial Guage. Makes sense the extra one is aluminum and I will be discarding it.

Apparently the new saws are coming with a better quality indicator gauge. Not sure if their cross compatible.
