i had this awesome speaker set-up paid 200$ refurbished back in 2007 crazy bass , best little set-up i ever bought, used to shake pictures off the wall
I just bought a set of z5500 speakers. really good condition from what I can see for only 75 bucks. can't wait to hear them, I have heard lots of good stuff about the z5500.
Been using Z5500's since early 2005 and so far Ive only had to replace the main fuse a few years ago (easy fix) but lately the volume level is erratic when using the knob, the knob itself still turns smoothly with the usual "clicks" being felt but sometimes the volume level will jump way up with just a small turn, hoping it just needs to be cleaned internally.
Yeah right, that potentiometer needs cleaning. And this set was totally neglected by the owner, after restoring its working great again. Owner is happy now. Thanks for watching bro
Hey there, I know this video is from 4 years ago but I just wanna let you know the satellite speakers doesn't all sound the same.... so uh when you putting it back on their casings be sure to put some kind of labeling.... thats all for now
What a great work repair 👌👌 congratulations! Fortunately I found your video, and I will repair my setup. Two questions: where do you bought the rubber membrane to replace the old popped? And what are the inches of new membrane? I found some sellers in aliexpress, but I don’t know the right measure… And what kind of glue did you used to paste the membrane ? Thanks in advance for the advices, and keep the good work 🙌🙌🙌
Totally agree... Mine are from like 2005 or 2006 and are in way better condition than this, only my rear speakers the rubber is a bit cut but nothing like that, the front ones the rubber doesnt have a single cut either and its not anywhere close to that dirt... And I have even played on parties all night at max volume and they are still working awesome... Anyway I already bought the 3 inch rubber replacement for the rear speaker, but I glued the original one and still havent really put the new rubber in which doesnt also have the quality of the original, when the original rubber gets completely screwed then I will change the rubber for the new one, but still don't know what glue should I use. I used contact flexible glue to repair the cuts and seem to be working kinda good even though not perfect...

Remove all the inputs & check the buzz noise. Change the inputs from the remote & check it. Its a minor problem, that may happen for few reasons. Mainly the inputs, faulty wires, then grounding the amp is one of the reason too. And bad capacitors can be the cause too. Only a technician can tell you the exact reason.

Thanks for the video. Mine has started switching off after a few seconds of use, as though I've turned off the master switch (no red light on controller). After a few mins, it comes back on. Could this be a fuse problem?
Is there any fixed time to turn back on? Fuse could be the problem or maybe the power connection that came from the main unit to the controller. Check them both.

Those led dies after a certain time of use. You can check the connection & connect 2 normal leds both side of the screen by yourself if you can. Or you have to get it done by proffessional.
@@karolisys6780 the LEDs got burmlned you just need to measure the voltage across their terminals it should be arround 2.5 to 3V on each LED if you dont have that voltage present on the LCD board somenting is wrong in your control pod or is just a burned LED wich is more likely to happen than something else breaking in the control pod

This shows cleaning plastic, not repairing speakers in any way. Those speakers surrounds were absolutely destroyed and not a single moment was spent on a supposed restoration of that?
Repairing was the last word which you are interested in. But i am sorry. And those speaker surrounds & cone were completely destroyed. And reparing those things are so costly here. Owner asked me for cheaper solution & he was happy with the restored product. Thanks
After watching this video I’ll definitely try to take my set apart to get rid of crackling noise in one of the satellites I guess the issue is somewhere in the subwoofer I just need to build up my patience
Try to press on the satelite cone and see if it crackels of if it crackling on junst one satelite it could be a bad capacitor on the tda input for that specoific output chanel or a bad op amp either in the console or subwoofer
You could’ve re-foamed the satellite speakers, I guess? They would be more original looking. How did it get foam rotted anyway? I got a free z560 and it was pretty old but not foam rotted.
@@TheOnlymPy on mine only the rear speakers have some cuts... The link I provided, I put that rubber above the speaker driver and the measure seems pretty damn good, I think they will fit 100% well, however the quality will probably be much worse than the original rubber, they seem softer to me, since I still haven't used it I can't say if they will sound the same with that rubber, but at least the ones from the link look like they will be a perfect fit for the Satellite speakers. I think you will just have to remove the original rubber, pass a bit of acetone very carefully to remove the old glue (don't pass the acetone on the silver part, I think it removes the aluminum coating), then you re-glue everything and to center well I think you can put a piece of paper in the middle of that hole in the center that has a metal spike to keep it centered, there's tuts on youtube for other speakers, but I don't have a single clue what kind of glue do they use...
You just need to buy new 3 inch speaker suspension and glue them on your speakers but cut a plastic bottle in to 4 10 cm long rectangular pieces and insert the between that big pin in the middle of the cone to prevent the speaker voice coi rubbing against the magnet you cand take the plastic pieces out only when the glue is dry

Hello. I have the same set. Center speaker don't make any sound from my pc. It makes sound when I press test button from controler. What's the problem? Does anyone knows? Thanks.
Actually may be your settings and audio inputs. I have mine connected from my pc via Auzentech 7.1 X-Plosion audio card with DAC. That's plugged directly via Toslink (optical jack) into the z5500 unit. When you set your settings in Windows make sure you have it set accordingly. 5.1 surround, 7.1 surround etc. Then try to get a good audio software suite. I have X-Ear 3d that came with Dolby Digital standard processing and DTS Direct Theater. Make sure you're setting your processing through Dolby Digital or DTS on the z5500 units settings. With my cable box it won't feed the center channel no matter what I mess with in settings. But it off balances higher to the satellite speakers and bass just fine. Hope that helps.
Hi. I am Mexican so excuse my writing and general expression if it fails. I have Been using this speakers since a lot of time. I love them so much. Right know I am watching this video because after all these years somehow I wanted to watch a review of these beauties... And after made the search in you tube I notice there is only a short amount of videos of this particular speakers. And most of them aren't like " fancy reviews" like those of this days... Far more, most of them are from ( as what I can hear) like European guys... Any way. I noticed most of the if not all used the speakers with electronic devices like PS3, DVD players and stuff like that used like 10 years ago. And to be honest the sound is mediocre. It's odd to see how average they work when they are working directly pluged in to those devices. To be honest they works like 1000 % better when you connect them in to a pc to a proper sound card. That way you don't even need to go for that secret boost volumen twik I watched in the other videos... Personally, I can't even go for a 75% volume up because everything in my room vibrates. Have you ever tried that setup ???
Use the green socket for stereo input. Select dolby pl2 music. Put panorama on. Set cwidth to 0. Use this setting & you will have awesome sound experience

The problem on you might be the op amps in the control pod on in the sub try replacing them to findout wich are the op amps just google their part number with is written on them and you will find the datasheets of the particular part that you searched or the capacitor between the amplifier chips and control pod they usually are situated on the small board inside the sub where the control pod connector is there should be 6 capacitors wich are the same just replace them ind see if it works but try the capacitor method first than just loosing lots of time trying to replace the op amps
my z5500s took a shit on me finally :( Cant get the "mute on over tempetaure" message away. I tried putting my ac unit on the pod nothing works. I tried to buy the z906s. Theyre so bad compared to the z5500s, would probably make an average consumer happy... but once you have the z5500s... nothing logitech makes now compares.
Does anyone have an idea about repairing of this unit. Sounds of my unit being interrupted after 2 3 minutes of switching on. When I change the mode, it becomes normal again and same prb after few minutes. What would be this brblm
What kind of interruption? Check your all input connections properly. Try different connection port. Reset the setting from the controller. If still doesnt solve the problem that means the decoder chip in the controller is going to die very soon.
@@technoboy-allinOne thanks for the response. Within 2 3 minutes...sounds like non tuned radio station and goes to mute suddenly. Then I change the input source, it becomes working properly and occur same problem If chip get die, should I change the whole controller or can I repair it ?

Me again :) This time it's different problem. I hear thumping sound coming from my logitech z5500. I tryed everything with cables and nothing works. Also I opened the sub and didn't noticed anything wrong. And it's strange, because it happens everyday only in the evening. I have everything plugged into surge protector. It just drives me crazy. Z5500 are more than 10 years old. Anyone have any ideas? Someone told me about Ferrite Core Cord Noise Suppressor. Do you think that will help? Ty all.
Thats due from the input cables not being shielded or protected from unwanted electromagcetic waves that might be in your house,at the moment you hear the try to change to optical input and see if it still makes unwanted sounds

Hi, Is it still worth buying this set of speakers at the moment ?
Yes it is. If its available
This video does this system injustice...the Z-5500's are totally worth getting but you have to be careful what you are buying. I have three sets of these and one set is mounted inside an arcade game and they all sound freaking awesome...if you want to destroy things with sound these babies are for you.
@@ChadLuciano Then which set is worth buying?
One of the best speakers. I replaced z906 satelites to my z5500 much better sound
Why my screen light not working ? Any ideas?
Those led dies after a certain time of use. You can check the connection & connect 2 normal leds both side of the screen by yourself if you can. Or you have to get it done by proffessional.
@@karolisys6780 the LEDs got burmlned you just need to measure the voltage across their terminals it should be arround 2.5 to 3V on each LED if you dont have that voltage present on the LCD board somenting is wrong in your control pod or is just a burned LED wich is more likely to happen than something else breaking in the control pod
Тоесть звук сателлитов z 5500 лучше, чем z 906?

This shows cleaning plastic, not repairing speakers in any way. Those speakers surrounds were absolutely destroyed and not a single moment was spent on a supposed restoration of that?
Repairing was the last word which you are interested in. But i am sorry. And those speaker surrounds & cone were completely destroyed. And reparing those things are so costly here. Owner asked me for cheaper solution & he was happy with the restored product. Thanks
Such a GREAT job...a pleasure to watch and re-watch!!!...I loved it💕

How to re foam the satellite speakers
where i can buy refoamed set? can you give me the link? my z5500 sattelite have save problem.
@@TheOnlymPy on mine only the rear speakers have some cuts...

I still haven't refoamed my speakers since they are still playing good, but I removed one of the rear speaker and glued the cuts with contact flexible glue for now, when the rubber goes all away then I will pay someone to glue the new rubber...
Thats owners choice.
but wait? u put 10W speakers into the housings of 63w speakers ???

@@technoboy-allinOne how can they work good when the channel is suposed to output 63W per speaker and the replacment speakers are 1/5 of the original size of the speaker

I have error with controller no digital data what do I do to fix it
check the cable, change the input
what is the replace speaker model?
Local brand speakers selected by the owner of this system. Though they dont sound like the real ones but they sound good.
My optical in the controller not work. Is it easy to change it?
Yeah you can replace the port
One of my speakers has this annoying buzzing noise. How do I get rid of it? It's only one.
Remove the inputs then check the noise. If its there then you have loose/bad components in the amp kit or groundloop fault in that amp section.
@@technoboy-allinOne If by remove the inputs you mean detach the cables at the back of the speaker, I did that and the noise stopped.
@@travv88 then just replace that cable with a new one, that cable may have broken wire inside
@@technoboy-allinOne I'll swap the two front speakers around and if the problem stays on the same cable it's the cable.

Hello. I have the same set. Center speaker don't make any sound from my pc. It makes sound when I press test button from controler. What's the problem? Does anyone knows? Thanks.
Maybe your input is the problem. Connect only one input. The green one on conetroller & on pc as well. Then select dolby music from controller.
And most of them aren't like
" fancy reviews" like those of this days...
Use this setting & you will have awesome sound experience
flood damage???
Yeah kind of. Owner was too careless of this beauty
Someone alse hear quiet squeaking from those speakers?
Nope
What size are the speakers in the satellites?
3 inches driver
@@technoboy-allinOne they are a little bit too low on the maximum power the ones that you out in the satelites dont you think so?

I have a Logitech z_5500
Set problem is volume very low.
And center speaker off
The problem on you might be the op amps in the control pod on in the sub try replacing them to findout wich are the op amps just google their part number with is written on them and you will find the datasheets of the particular part that you searched or the capacitor between the amplifier chips and control pod they usually are situated on the small board inside the sub where the control pod connector is there should be 6 capacitors wich are the same just replace them ind see if it works but try the capacitor method first than just loosing lots of time trying to replace the op amps
I got teared up watching this.... the question is... how long will they actually work after all that neglect?
Well after restoration its still working more then 3 years
Hi all, does Anyone knows how to solve the Mute on symptom when sometime the alimentation cable is moved ?
I have also another problem on mine. The blue led (screen + led button is out if order. Do hou know how to repair it ?
Thanks for your video.
need to replace them
my z5500s took a shit on me finally :( Cant get the "mute on over tempetaure" message away. I tried putting my ac unit on the pod nothing works. I tried to buy the z906s. Theyre so bad compared to the z5500s, would probably make an average consumer happy... but once you have the z5500s... nothing logitech makes now compares.
Your problem with it overheating is the load on the sub amplifier plate try putting a fan on the sub radiator and see if the error occures again

Then I change the input source, it becomes working properly and occur same problem
If chip get die, should I change the whole controller or can I repair it ?
Yes its repairable. But first reset the setting of the controller.

Thats due from the input cables not being shielded or protected from unwanted electromagcetic waves that might be in your house,at the moment you hear the try to change to optical input and see if it still makes unwanted sounds
