I look forward to these videos every year. You’re so good at telling us exactly the info we need to get interested in each book. I actually have e-arcs of Death of the Author and Notes from a Regicide that I’m planning to get to while traveling this week. Also, dang, John Scalzi is busy.
Thomas? Awesome, and im giving you a standing ovation .... I don't know how many times I had to pause to add said books to my TBR. I'm so looking forward to the other videos. You are appreciated. Take care!
These are good picks. I've decided that my goal for 2025 is to read more books than I add to my TBR. My TBR is already so long that I need to figure out how to become immortal to get through it all.
Hey hey!!! I always look forward to these videos :) i havent found many new books I’m interested in so pumped to see what you found. I do agree with you about changes i’ve seen in publishing lately
Well…I feel like an idiot. Where has your channel been for all my booktube life?! Ngl, I just got hooked after looking up reviews for Certain Dark Things, which you did a review for oh-so-many moons ago. It was great by the way. So, I guess better late than never? I hope you’ll continue putting out content, cuz I’ve never gotten as excited about an anticipated book release video before as I have with yours.😂
Thank you so much for coming by and sticking around. I do plan to keep going and hopefully will be producing much more content you’ll find just as enjoyable.
Thank you for all your effort on these videos about anticipated releases. I look forward to them all year and I can't wait to watch the other two upcoming videos on Horror and Fantasy! I'm really excited for Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor. As an English Lit student, when I saw the Roland Barthes reference in the title, I immediately had to preorder it.
I went into a B&N for the first time in a while, and wow what a change. A large chunk of the store had been turned into a toy/game section. And they actually separated out the fantasy from the science fiction, and the science fiction section was tiny in comparison. It was depressing. And most of the fantasy book were hardcover, while the scifi was a blend of hard and soft cover.
I always look forward to this video and your video on upcoming fantasy reads for the year. Your perspective is always appreciated and I love hearing about upcoming projects here that I wouldn't hear about elsewhere. Especially because many booktubers cover the same projects that fit more into the latest trends (romantasy, cozy fantasy etc.), that are fine, but not always what some readers are looking for.
I didn't realise you were back and active again! I'm so happy! I hard agree there is a lot of literary sci-fi recently (looking at your goodreads choice awards) and it makes me sad.
I certainly don’t have a problem with literary sci-fi, being the child of a generation who was constantly having to defend sci-fi from preconceptions that the entire genre was innately juvenile and unserious as literature. At the same time though, it would be nice to see the actual SF shelves in bookstores once again filled with as much science fiction as I remember seeing in those days.
This is one of the best channels for Sci-fi recommendations !! I placed a few books on my list thanks to this video!! Happy Holidays!! "Project Hanuman", sounds very interesting!!
25 in 2025 😊 All the water in the world just reminded me of New York 2140 by Kim Stanley - I’m so looking forward to reading When the Moon Hits your eye!
Demon Queen by Martha Wells, the sequel to Witch King, is due out Oct 10th. This is one I'm looking forward the most. After that, I'm really looking forward to Okorafor's new one.
"We're a quarter of the way through the 21st century..." No Thomas No SF is a hard sell at the editor level these years. Indie has kind of taken over that space. I do remember rolling my eyes at older folks complaining that the genre had changed and no one was publishing "real" science fiction any more. I guess I'm the older people now...
So why read anything in that vein? Life’s too short to read stuff you don’t like. I hate the “woke up without a memory” trope so I don’t read books which feature that. Seems like a form a masochism..

Thanks very much! Yes, he definitely is.

Another great list, Thomas! The Tchaikovsky book sounds excellent...might have to try and import it early, if the tariffs don't ruin that...🤪
Yeah, maybe getting that pre-order in would be a good idea. 😅
I was eagerly waiting for this video!🔥 Will be adding books mentioned in my TBR list!
That's the spirit!
I was only thinking today that it would be nice to have an SFF180 Discord!
Thank you for the list. You have some of the most comprehensive sci-fi coverage on youtube!
Wow, thank you!
I just want to raise my hand as a big fan of all things cozy sci fi and fantasy. And thanks for all your great videos. Keep em coming. 😊❤
I definitely will, and hey, at least there’s something out there for just about everyone.
The Martian Contingency and Death of the Author were my most anticipated 2025 releases, but this has added at least 10 to my list.
Look forward to these videos all year! Thanks Thomas
Thanks so much!
Amazing kist as always. Thanks and i look forward to seeing rhe rest. These are some of my favorite things each year.
Thanks Josh, I really do appreciate it.
Many thanks for these videos Thomas.
I am so excited for The Unmapping!

Yeah, it’s a sad trend.

Yay books!
Awesome list. I look forward to these videos at the end of every year!
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the generosity!
Amazing list , thank you so much, adding so much to my already giant tbr
love your videos. Always awaiting your uploads.
Thanks very much!
This is one of the best channels for Sci-fi recommendations !!
I placed a few books on my list thanks to this video!!
Happy Holidays!!
"Project Hanuman", sounds very interesting!!
"Where The Axe Is Buried" sounds so good.
I clicked SO fast! Thank you for your good work 🎉 Brilliant list 🌟
You are most welcome!
15:34 bookmark.. gotta pause for now and come back in a bit when I can continue writing down all the ones I want to read 😄
That’s what I like to see!
Thank you for this great list!
My pleasure!
Hope fantasy and horror are just as big if not more.
Orbital was barely science fictional, not that I disagree with your point. Thanks for the video. Definitely some interesting ones in here.
I'm looking forward to Shroud by Adrian Tchaikovsky.
Excellent list!
Thanks Dev!
Really excited for Doctorow, Tchaikowsky, Kowal and Scalzi books. But I also added a few unknown to me books/authors to my TBR, thanks!
25 in 2025 😊 All the water in the world just reminded me of New York 2140 by Kim Stanley - I’m so looking forward to reading When the Moon Hits your eye!
I agree with your shirt 😂
At last ❤
Love these announcements videos! The background music makes it hard to process what you are saying.
Will keep that in mind. I try to keep it very low.

Martha’s book goes under fantasy.
Speaking of indie published books, did anyone else here read Torche Tombante: Kamiumi? If you want hard hard sci-fi, give it a look.
"We're a quarter of the way through the 21st century..." No Thomas No

Out of curiosity, if you want “stakes” why read cozy fiction at all? No (or low) stakes is literally the point of that type of story.
Yes I’m aware.
So why read anything in that vein? Life’s too short to read stuff you don’t like. I hate the “woke up without a memory” trope so I don’t read books which feature that. Seems like a form a masochism..
Where did you get the idea I’m seeking out material I don’t like?
… and they don’t stop coming.
