Thank you very much for spreading all that knowledge, it's really super helpful. I value so much that you show a broad variety of tools that can do the job for us DIY warriors, as we have the one or other tool already in possession and don't neccessarily go and spend money first to get started on our boat repairs. I love also the little tools you make for yourself, like the little sanding blocks out of wood.
You are Very Welcome! I'm glad to help all the DIY warriors out there! I truly appreciate the positive comments and support that we are receiving from everyone and love to hear suggestions for future content. I'm excited to see how far the channel can go, and look forward to making lots of quality DIY fiberglass and gelcoat content for you all. Thanks so much for watching, and I wish you all the best with any future projects!
Joe I hope you and Logan know how much we appreciate you the videos with all the details and then you put links were to get it all you put a lot of time in to it and I truly appreciate you both
Hail hail
Joe, you are doing such amazing things here!! I had a pretty mechanical dad and learned alot of these things but there are so many who did not have that. In this time where these skills are dying out I cant express how much this means to me and so many others for you to pass on what your dad taught you to all of us!!!
Wow, thanks! My dad passed away before UA-cam was a thing, but I think he would love it! It's amazing what can be learned, and I think he would be very proud to share what our family has learned over the years with the UA-cam community!
Hi Captain Joe!
Good Lord man! You are spitting out videos like watermelon seeds this week! I Love it! Thank you so much!
All the best from California!🧡
Agreed, its great!
The man is on a mission. What is it exactly? But he is putting out a LOT of information almost every day.
It sure was a lot. Great info and made a lot of sense.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting on the videos!
Thank you for sharing so much knowledge. I'm a DIY'er with a small sailboat habit. Your videos are incredibly helpful and I appreciate them!
You are very welcome! I'm glad to help, and I appreciate you watching!
Capt Joe I can honestly say that I have learned so much from you guys THANK YOU so much for putting out this information y'all are appreciated for your time Fish bump family!
I'm 48 and I rebuilt my first boat when I was 16. I got it finished when I was 18. I taught myself a lot over the years. I never think I know everything and you have showed me a few tips that will be useful. Mention your DeWalt da can connect to a shop vac.
I'd like to add something. Using the Hook and loop(velcro) paper is more cost effective. The adhesive back paper you will use far beyond its usefulness because you know once you pull it off it will be trash anyway. With hook and loop you can throw say a sheet of 40 on. Use it for a few minutes. Yank it off and use an 80 or 120. Then work on a new area and start back with that same sheet of 40. It saves you money and lets you work smarter.
Wow you have so many tips and tricks i never thought of amazing
I'm glad there was helpful info in there for ya! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I actually used a dye grinder with a conical bur to grind deep cracks in my gelcoat out and filled them with a gelcoat paste I am currently sanding down the patches so great timing. I'm going to be rolling on a coat of non waxed and a coat waxed gelcoat after. Then wet sanding and buffing. Toughest thing I was trying to figure out was getting where the boat sits on the trailer bunks. I need a couple boat stands. Then I can lower the front of the trailer and support the back of the boat and raise the trailer support the front of the boat then drop the trailer just below the boat so I can paint the area where the bunk sit. The nightmare of the home boat repair 😂
Very good info. Thanks...
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I like your style to explain all that stuff! On point, so that I can use the informations and put them into my repertoire. Thank you!
Very cool! Glad you are enjoying the videos!
So great videos !!
Lot of thanks from French Island Martinique
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching all of the way from Martinique!!
My kids and i love watching you're videos, you have helped us a bunch with our formula 233 rebuild thanks!
That is awesome! Glad we can help with your formula 233 rebuild!
What do you prefer to remove material quickly? Random Orbital, or Rotary.
Awesome!
Thank you very much!
Well done ! you covered a lot in a short time
Haha, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Joe as a small time boat builder myself..
A thing I use quite often to get down into the corners where the bulkhead meets the floor for example is a socket on a adapter for either a impact driver or a drill. I wrap sticky sand paper around the socket. Choose whatever size you need
thats a bad ass idea. i never considered the socket set for sanding a radius
Just checking if you and yours are OK after Helene moved through. Sure hope so!
Yes, we are all good! Thanks so much for checking on us!
Love the videos, extremely informative and helpful!!!
First time boat owner here, I bought an older sailboat the I will eventually work on cleaning and restoring the gel coating. But also needs new cushions. Curious if you have any experience with cushions or any kind of upholstery refinishing?
Awesome, thanks! Sorry, I don't do any upholstery work. I have a local guy that does my work for me. Maybe next time I need some upholstery work I can do a video for you all. Wish I could be more help. Appreciate you watching!
that hutchins board is orbital...they make straight line and that 3100...love the orbital long board..
Yep, I love my Hutchins air tools, they are the best! Thanks for watching
thoughts on belt sanders Joe ? my little orbital is not cutting it. and my grinder is just crewing up pads
I don't personally use a belt sander much, but some folks like and use them. My favorite material removal tool is a high-speed 4.5 or 5 angle grinder with 24 or 36 grit paper. But everyone has their personal favorites, as far as tools go. I wish you all the best and I appreciate you watching!
Another great video Joe
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic video 👏🏼
Saludos Joe, I’m about to embark on a stitch and glue 14’ skiff here in Puerto Rico. I follow your UA-cam channel and looking to use epoxy for the fillets and gluing and polyester resin for the hull and deck. Here in PR the temperature avg is in the 80’s and was wondering which of the west system catalysts I should use normal or slow? Please let me know. Same for the poly resin?
Thanks in advance.
Capt Juan
Sounds like a great project! I would suggest that you consider using epoxy for the entire project. You can have bonding and compatability issues when trying to apply polyester or vinyl ester resin over epoxy. I have built several stitch and glue skiffs, and we always used epoxy for the entire project. I know it's more expensive, but the results are going to be better. You might want to look into using peel ply as well, especially if you are using epoxy. We recently did a video on peel ply. It can save you a lot of time and effort, especially when working with epoxy. Of course these are just suggestions and I always recommend everyone to do plenty of research before starting their project. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
excellent video. Thanks
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
Can’t get enough!
Awesome! Glad you are enjoying the channel!
Great ideas, mahalo! Btw, do you have a link to the velcro that you used to cover the bottom of the sanders so that the circular sanding pads could be used? I feel like I could make a flexible hand longboard sander with some 1/8" plywood and some cabinet knobs if I could find the velcro used to cover the bottom....
I purchased a couple FlexiSanders and spreaders for fairing, so far I think it’s worth it but I’m still chasing pockets, any suggestions?
I have not personally used them, but i have seen them in use. Looks like it could be a nice option to have around the shop. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I’d say you could pour some of that 2 part foam and make some of those .you think you could Joe
💪💪
Thank you!!
L I K E 👍👍👍👍👍 😻 ❣ 😻 ❣ 😻💯💢💯💢💯
Awesome, thanks!
