I've never ever given a bigger LIKE to any GG videos than to this one. So immersive, rich in context, respectful, and also well presented that I haven't even looked at the comments before watching the whole video. Sven's best ever decision was to incorporate you, Preston, in GG. Please keep it up, keep us educated the beautiful way you do!
My grandmother knew Fred Astaire many long years ago when they both had shows on Broadway. Astaire as a performer, my grandmother as a songwriter. He was always one of her favorites and was my mother's top choice, Mom said that he personified style, wit, taste and class. Not to mention elegance.
When I was 15 many long years ago I asked my older brother who was a sharp dresser and a hit with girls if he would show me how to dress. He answered by saying: " If you want to learn how to dress watch a Fred Astaire movie." Good advice even today.
Fred Astaire is my biggest Hollywood crush! His style, even to this day, is impeccable and timeless. Wish the style he, Grant, Kelly, Crosby, and Martin would make a comeback for men and the style Rogers, Garland, Gardner, and Kelly made popular for women.
Fred Astaire: what's there to say that isn't already obvious? For many, an ideal model to follow, both in passion for dancing and classic style (both art in their own way). Thank you for this video, it really helped me appreciate his legacy even more :)
Love this! Fred Astaire's style and charm will intrigue and be admired by fashion enthusiasts and classic film lovers for years to come.😚 My thanks for putting Fred in such an aspiring light for men who want a vintage snazzy dress. I'm a lady but I appreciate fashion all-together, especially from the '30s...my favourite era for music, fashion, attitude, and dialect. That period and this video, as Fred Astaire sang in, "Top Hat, White Tie and Tails", "Simply reeks with class"!😁
Pastel pink shirts with blue blazer is one of my favorite combinations, and I always wear pocket squares and boutonnieres, and I got it right from Astaire.

This is perfect for Christmas!!!! Fred Astaire is a true icon... Lovely!!!
A sophisticated sensibility was at the heart of Fred Astaire's success. Perfect timing and impeccable taste informed everything he did - including, of course, the way he dressed.
An extremely interesting video. I loved the history and explanations of the various articles of Astaire's clothes. Preston, you are a perfect slim build for the Astaire Style! You don't mention it, but I think Astaire's clothing looked so nice on him, no matter the style, was that he was so slim. Just like runway models of today, a slim build allows material to drape nicely and show off the clothing to its best. And of course, he did have to have more roomy clothing because of his dancing, which at times was quite athletic! I think his dancing obviously influenced how he dressed in his "civilian" life and his clothing choices probably just became one in the same. Again, thank you for such an entertaining and informative video! Well done, sir!
A sensational, extremely informed, and sensitive video. Also one of my favorite men of style. Simply naturally classy. One of the great men of the mid-Atlantic era. Also Preston's diction is absolutely on point as always. So lovely and clear.
I was thinking that Preston should do a video on Fred Astaire. Even though he doesn’t dance like him, he is a similar build. What you always notice even though his clothes weren’t close fitting he seemed to always accentuate the waist therefore giving him a nice v shape. In my opinion his style is the best of that era even blowing away Cary Grant. Like you said he had this ease and a bit panache.
Well, Preston, you’ve made my day! Thank you for the video portrait of one of my heroes, the magnificent Fred Astaire. He exudes class without being stuffy and makes everything he wears look like a million. You yourself cut quite a figure in your own interpretation of his style-love the necktie belt! Also, thanks for teaching me the correct pronunciation of “insouciance”! Wishing you and the GG folks a Merry Christmas/Happy holiday!
Please make a video on history of evolution of menswear!! How men's fashion chanced thought the decades since the Victorian Era till present day. And maybe even make different videos on these individual decades and comparing the fashion with that of the previous and next decade. Since Preston you're so knowledgeable about classic menswear in the past century, I think you can make an amazing series and I'd be hooked! A lot of videos talk about evolution of women's fashion in the last century, hardly any good content on that of men.
Hello Gentlemen’s Gazette Staff, I thoroughly enjoyed this message on dressing like Mr. Astaire! Just excellent! Thank You for the research you conducted in order to present this beautiful UA-cam message! I love watching the young Man who presented this message! Thank You So Much!
This was one of the best videos I've seen from you guys! Looking forward to seeing similar videos on Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, as well as some other more formal style icons such as Prince Charles .
I only just found this! Why is it unlisted? Fred Astaire is an absolute legend and spectacular dancer. PS. I just noticed the Top Hat, White Tie and Tails in the background!
We have a specific release schedule for our videos, and they get uploaded to UA-cam before going "public" in order for embedding to work smoothly on our website. Don't worry, Carl--it's never our intention to withhold content! :) Thanks for watching. - Preston
Can you make a video on how to dress in the cold winter like in Siberia or Canada? I can't find any neet hat that could cover my ears. This will be very appreciated.
Well done video!! Cary Grant should be next. Perhaps compare him to George Clooney. Most everyone else does. Dean Martin is uber ideal as is Steve McQueen. Consider.
Astaire's totally effortless and playful manner, while still being a gentleman, set him apart from all others. His impeccable clothing and dancing skills weren't enough.
Astaire may have introduced more songs, but as a singer, he was completely blown out of the room by Crosby. Astaire was a dancer who could sing. Crosby was a singer who could dance.
You don't have to sell me on Crosby's vocal talent! He is and will remain my favorite singer, unquestionably. But where Crosby (and Sinatra) put an indelible stamp on each performance that made a song his own, there's a certain "truthfulness" to Astaire's singing that lets the song itself take center stage. Both were masters of their craft(s). Thanks for watching! - Preston
Der lachende Vagabund, Billie Holliday's voice was "thin," too. Louis Armstrong wasn't exactly smooth. Lotte Lenya was, shall we say, "eccentric." But all were a delight, and irreplaceable. Astaire's voice may have been "thin," but he sure could put a song across. You should live so long to have such panache.
Thank you for posting the footage from Funnyface (1957). Hepburn felt she didn't belong in the same room with Astaire when it came to dancing despite her ballet background, but she acquitted herself nicely with the grand master.
Some other specific people to make videos on could be Winston Churchill, Franklin D Roosevelt, of course Edward the Duke of Windsor, and more recently Akihito, Emperor Emeritus of Japan
That [horse] ‘bit" pin briefly alluded to may have been a favorite of his and was worn by many of his characters. If you can find a copy, his sadly seldom seen film, The Pleasure of His Company, is a fun watch and showcases his insouciant style. Remember, too, that he studied and learned from Edward VIII’s fashion sense.
A nice, informative video. I enjoyed this. You missed a trick in that Fred has a pocket square fold named after him: the Astaire - a puff fold. 😊 For a future style icon, how about Humphrey Bogart?
Look at the way he holds frame when he moves. His movements are smoothly punctuated. Of course that has nothing to do with clothing style but it is essential to his overall style.
They said that when he would be getting a suit made at Anderson and Sheppard, he would dance in front of mirror with one eye glancing towards it to make sure that as he danced, he would never have a gap between his jacket collar and his shirt collar.
I read that Astaire didn't like wearing new suits, so he would bash them against a wall to get a worn in look and take the "stiffness" out of the fabric. Also, he could play the drums!
I've never ever given a bigger LIKE to any GG videos than to this one. agree with every word!
Thanks for your kind words, Matyas! We're glad you liked the video. This one was a lot of fun for me to put together! :)

Yes, more Preston! Wonderful addition to the channel.

Well, your brother certainly gave great advice!
Your brother sounds like a legend.
Could you make a video about Frank Sinatra's style?
Im still waiting for that...
That would be awesome!
Yess plsss
Yes pleaseeeeee
Fred Astaire is my biggest Hollywood crush! His style, even to this day, is impeccable and timeless. Wish the style he, Grant, Kelly, Crosby, and Martin would make a comeback for men and the style Rogers, Garland, Gardner, and Kelly made popular for women.

Fred Astaire had true class.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone
Do you have, or will you have a 'How To' video on storing your suits, socks, ties, pocket squares, etc. for everyday use?
A sophisticated sensibility was at the heart of Fred Astaire's success. Perfect timing and impeccable taste informed everything he did - including, of course, the way he dressed.

Great episode on Fred Astaire and his style of dress. Love the Fred Astaire inspired style on Preston.

He was elegant and light like a butterfly, thanks for this video and Merry Christmas to you all and your dearest ones!
Mr Astaire has always been my idol, since I was a pre-teen. I still watch him on a regular basis and he is my main inspiration as a dancer.
"Even if you don't plan to dance like he did and really, who can?"
15:23 LOL!!!

Incredible dancer ,singer and style....pure gentleman style. 👏
Excellent! Great person to pick as an inspiration.
What a wonderful video! I love Fred Astaire!
What a great video. I’ll be looking at Fred Astaire’s films with new appreciation of his style and outfits.
I've been waiting my entire life for this video.

Happy Christmas 🎄 guys

Excellent work. Thanks for this.
I was never a fan of Fred Astaire, now I am. Very informative and entertaining video.
Brilliantly crafted video for a style icon! I really didn't want it to end. Well done Preston... well done!
9/10, amazing video, but expected our dear Preston to dance on the ceiling with white tie on.
Haha, just kidding! Great video!
Hollywood movies capture the essence of the classic gentleman attire🎩🎥
Looking amazing Preston 👏 😍 👌
I adore him
Great video! I am a big fan of Astaire's outfits. Also, this style suits Preston well.
Please Preston, do a video on Bing Crosby's style!
Oh, by the way: your style is always superbe.
Excellent video! Thoroughly informative and well researched. Kudos!
I've seen two of his movies. Funny and fun.
Like the tux in the background
Thank you for this great and inspiring video!
Simply awesome - thank you for sharing!
Would love to see a style icon one on British fashion with Ronald Colman. Such class!
I only just found this! Why is it unlisted? Fred Astaire is an absolute legend and spectacular dancer.

@@gentlemansgazette , took me longer to notice it, but nice addition of the top hat, white tie and tails in the background!
Hello 👋
Another great video...
Thumbs up 👍
Thanks Preston great vid & I've seen shoe chaps worn again on da dance floor bak in da late 80s when we all wore suits 👍
Thoroughly enjoyed this.. would love to see a video breaking down the style of Nat King Cole
Hope do more videos from old Hollywood
Hi Preston, Can you please do a video on just English suits and fashion.
Hey man, just wanna say I love the flower in your suit today
Well done Preston, I have long been an fan of Fred Astaire, so the biography information was really cool!
Merry Christmas 🦌⛄🎄🎅
Thanks guys for another year of useful and and entertaining suff....
very interesting and inspiring. thanks preston!
Can you make a video on how to dress in the cold winter like in Siberia or Canada? I can't find any neet hat that could cover my ears. This will be very appreciated.
People back then dressed so classy.
Merry Christmas everyone
A very interesting video as always, very enjoyable.
Well done video!! Cary Grant should be next. Perhaps compare him to George Clooney. Most everyone else does. Dean Martin is uber ideal as is Steve McQueen. Consider.
They did one on Cary Grant.
Tim Crowe oops. Ok. Dean Martin.
I guess we'll need yet another video on "How to tie a tie", when the tie is used as a belt!
Astaire's totally effortless and playful manner, while still being a gentleman, set him apart from all others. His impeccable clothing and dancing skills weren't enough.
Even in the movie, Ghost Story, his last film made when he was quite elderly, he was a dapper dresser.
Yes he always looked good
Please do one of these for Alain Delon.
How about a video covering Bing Crosby's style? Thanks!
I am trying to dress more like you and Rafael! You guys always look so good and dapper. BTW you are so cool man!

Astaire‘s voice was thin

Simple, but accurate.

@10:47 that outfit and vest fits Fred like
🔥 🔥 🔥
Great video thank you ❤️
I enjoy Preston's "How to Dress Like" series.
Any advice on how to fill out a made to measure properly so it can fit the best it can, I know it won't be bespoke but again, just the best it can.
Hello could you make a video about Bing Crosby style because i think he has his personal style,i think its can be a good video.
Love your outfit in this, Preston. Especially a fan of the tie dimple! Also, that is another great Austin Reed poster, where do you find them!?
Preston’s ensemble looks like the suit Astaire wore from ‘Isn’t it a lovely day (to be caught in the rain)’.
Suggested to make video on safari suits
Preston, You remind me so much of Bill Evans
Anderson & Sheppard made me a navy blue lambswool db suit that they said was a copy of the last suit they made for Fred Astaire.
The Grey Eminense , good episode.
White tie by Fred Astaire was best white tie.
A nice, informative video. I enjoyed this.
You missed a trick in that Fred has a pocket square fold named after him: the Astaire - a puff fold. 😊
For a future style icon, how about Humphrey Bogart?
Preston, does this camel sportcoat feature a draped chest style?
Great video gentlemen, perhaps you could do a "how to dress like Humphry Bogart" sometime?
Please continue with your great work.
My favorite fashion inspiration
Also, please do Bryan Ferry
Please steal Bing Crosby’s style next (preferably both his causal and formal) thanks 😊
Rest in peace Fred Astair, singer, dancer, actor and a style icon of a wonderful time, long past.
Cool, I share his B-Day
"If Fred Astaire is the Cary Grant of dance, I'm the Marlon Brando." Gene Kelly (quote from IMDB)
Suggestions on required reading for a gentleman? Not menswear books. Classic novels are a given.
Parisian Gentleman blog has a nice article on this subject: "ASTAIRE, COOPER AND GRANT. THEY DON’T MAKE THEM LIKE THAT ANYMORE."
Do I have to be able to run up walls if I want to dress like Fred Astaire
I read that Astaire didn't like wearing new suits, so he would bash them against a wall to get a worn in look and take the "stiffness" out of the fabric. Also, he could play the drums!
Do a style video on Sean Connery? OG agent 007
Astaire's style is here to stay...
EXCELLENT!....?SINCE WE INTO OLD HOLLYWOOD STYLE HOW ABOUT GARY COOPER? Peace,
Curiously enough I was watching Sant Claus is Comin' to Town last night.
