I find the "plant based" filter on yarnsub super helpful btw! It helps me so much when looking for subs! :)
This was such an incredibly informative video! I started learning macrame back in November 2022 and when I started crocheting this year I was so confused because in macrame you really only look at the physical thickness of yarn + the length in meters. I've since learned a lot and your video sums up the most important points! Thank you so much! Will definitely save this to share with friends! :)
Great informative video! I too am learning about yarn characteristics, not only the play between gauge and fibre weight but how the interplay of these 2 features plus how it’s spun, yarn “bloom”, drape, how it blocks out, wear (ie does it pill if you look at it) etc
I have found that, although I want to love superwash merino, it often appears quite characterless and bland in a project and I am yearning for unspun yarns which another whole chapter!
Thank you for the comprehensive review very good for beginners and everybody!
i just love this video it have really opened my eyes in terms of choosing the perfect yarn for the certain project. Thank you so much for sharing your experience wih us!♥️
thanks for watching!
Anna! What an incredibly informative video! I have been looking for this information for the past few weeks and am so glad I came across this video! Thank you for taking the time to create this resource! I took tons of notes and will be referring back to them & this video in the future!
I'm so glad you found it helpful!
Great video. My only suggestion is to hold the yarn up longer so the camera can focus. They didn’t come out clearer 😢
Thank you for ideas to substitute the mohair strand!!!
Such a great episode - thank you!
So informative! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I always love your content. You are amazing!❤️
You're so sweet, thank you!
thank you for this video - it really helped me a lot!! you're so kind :)
Amazing amount of information! I am sure I will be referring back to this video. Thank you so much!
you're so welcome! thanks for watching!
thank you so much Anna, it was very interesting. Could you tell us more about how you know which project goes with yarn recycled from a frogged sweater from a charity shop ?
I use the meterage / 100g system! you can use a swift, a chair, or a knitty noddy to skein the yarn (you just need to know how long one full wrap is) and estimate the meterage you have and then weigh and do some simple math to estimate your yarn weight.
Great work, so informative , Thank you
Thank you so much!!❤ it seems like yarn weight is a secret code! 😢only to be revealed to the elite 😎 😂. I've searched and searched and have felt quite inadequate! Finally, I get it! Such a great resource!!
This was so much information I had no idea so many types of yarn existed! I wonder if you ever worked with Turkish yarn which is the most popular one in my region ( even if we have many sheep the Turkish purchase the fleece and process it into yarn)...
Really great video - I live in Scotland and drawn to Aran weight projects - where and how would you place that in your yarn weight chart which i found extremely useful.
I would say Aran falls betweeen worsted and bulky, but closer to worsted. Probably like around 140-180 meters per 100g, or a gauge of 15-16 stitches over ten cm
Can you tell me what yarn weight would you get if you used Briggs and Little roving but only used one strand of the yarn? Thank you so much for your podcast, it was very informative and answered so many of my Yarn Questions. I really appreciate these teaching podcasts.
I've knit it up at a 19 stitch gauge! I've also knit with plotulopi single stranded at a 21 stitch gauge. It's pretty versatile --the unspun nature of the yarn allows it to bloom and fill in gaps at a larger gauge or compress without getting too dense at a tighter gauge. I would say you could comfortably sub it in for a sport or dk.
Thank you so much for all the insights on yarns! :)
I haven't I generally try to stay away from man-made fibers, but from a cursory look at it on the website it does look like a blown yarn!
@@apt.atelier Thank you for checking it out for me, I appreciate it! :)
I also heard about bamboo yarn, is it something you have used? Is it more environment-friendly ?
I haven't used it but I've felt it in store and it's super nice! It is more environmentally friendly, as bamboo requires less water to grow than cotton. Bamboo is almost like a nice hybrid between cotton and silk, it's lovely!
@@apt.atelier interesting!
So much great information however you are out of focus when you show the yarn BECAUSE a you are too close to the camera. SIT BACK
Great job!!!! Lots of things to think about when substituting🧶.
