    Plum would be lovely for the hat! Also, I appreciate your resourcefulness in knitting -I've never seen a knitter take apart a thrift store sweater and use if for a project -that's a good idea. And the Sandnes Garn sweater collar looks fine.

    New subscriber - UA-cam suggested you, watched this video, and will now go back and watch some of your older videos. Love the idea of a project vlog of one project. I´ve been knitting for years and year, but only simple projects. Stitched my first set of socks and am now obsessed. Hi Anna, I’m glad I found your channel. I love your style choices and you knit beautifully. The Norland hat would look great in a berry color. You don’t need to redo the collar on your favorite cream colored sweater. It’s not noticeable, unless it drives you bananas 🤣. I get that! The sweater surgery at 8:18 just confirms knitters are lowkey badasses. Thanks for the info on increasing the armhole(11:25) on sweater no 11. Your spot sweater looks beautiful. I have this at the top of my queue and would like to start this, but it seems so challenging. Maybe I watched their KAL at the wrong time because my brain was not computing. So many beautiful knits. I would definitely dye the hat in a darker color, a darker brown or maybe dark blue navy to go together with the Spot Sweater? I just finished my Sweater No. 11 and the Spot Sweater is on my list next. I will be doing it with unspun. And I am absolutely in this oversized, dropped shoulder team right now, so nice to find your podcast ❤

    Your makes are all so gorgeous! And I especially want to say that your knitting with second hand yarns is so inspiring to me- I was considering preordering hand dyed yarn and have completely put it out of my head thanks to seeing all the beautiful things you create.
    Do you have any tips on unwinding a cake of Country Roving? Carefully, I suppose. I am curious to try this yarn because I love Briggs and Little but don’t want to knit a bulky weight anything 😂

    • @apt.atelier
      @apt.atelier  Рік тому

      Hand dyed yarn is special in a different way! There is a lot of artestry that goes into those gorgeous skeins. Definitely carefully! I end up splitting the plys in half and then half again, and make very delicate piles all over the floor until I can ball them up. It's a process but it's worth it!

I would love to see a video of the process you do to harvest yarn from old sweaters. I’ve always wanted to try it but I find it intimidating. Do you have to wash the yarn to get all the kinks out? What type of sweaters do you look for? Etc. I would love to be more sustainable 😊

    I love your spot sweater! So classic and wearable. I may have to look into it, but I have never done color work. How difficult is the color work?

    • @apt.atelier
      @apt.atelier  Рік тому +1

      It's pretty simple! The longest float is only 5 stitches. The only tricky part is the beginning, and there are support videos, but it might be a little overwhelming to work the flat part if you haven't done any color work before. I'd say start with an accessory like socks/hat/cowl to get comfortable working with multiple strands and then you could take this on no problem.

    That spot sweater is gorgeous!! I think you may have inspired me to make one for myself. Do you find that older yarns need more care when knitting with/washing them? I’ve always been told that older yarns can be more delicate but have never actually tested it out for myself.

    • @apt.atelier
      @apt.atelier  Рік тому +1

      The spot sweater is slow going but I'm hoping it will be with the work! I haven't had any issues working with older yarns. This yarn in particular has a lot of spinning oil in so it needs to be washed well when blocking, but there are plenty of modern yarns that need that extra rinse too. I haven't had a problem with them being extra delicate

    Watching this video again as I'm putting away the yarn I got from Hillesvag...I think the unspun would be perfect for the Guernsey sweater. I made the Ingrid using wool and it's heavy as expected. Hillesvag's unspun is surprisingly soft and would make a lighter weight sweater. I believe you have their unspun - how do you like it? Would you suggest using it double as is or with mohair for strength.

    • @apt.atelier
      @apt.atelier  Рік тому

      I love it! It is very soft and light weight. I have used it single and double, and both were fine, although you have to be careful when using it single because it is delicate. I've never used mohair with it, but Inga from knitting traditions has, and she also talks a lot about it in her channel.

    Hi Anna your videos are so wonderful to watch. I learn so much from them. I had a question for you, how do you separate the 5ply county roving yarn? Would you be able to makes a short video to show how you do it? or let Me know how you do it? I don’t have any tools ( ball winder or swift). Appreciate your response. Thank you.

    • @apt.atelier
      @apt.atelier  Рік тому

      Hi! thank you so much! It has 5 plys, so I split into two piles (one with 2 plys, one with 3) and then split it again until I have 5 piles with 1 ply each. It takes a lot of floor space and there's always a little breakage but as long as you're gentle it's not too hard. Once you have the piles, you can wind them into balls by hand from there. Hope that's helpful!

    Is drops ripping off other designers, or are the other designers using drops as a base for their own designs? I don’t really see anything wrong with that’s because they’re both different patterns but still. Just clarifying. Good podcast! ❤

    • @apt.atelier
      @apt.atelier  Рік тому

      Interesting thought! Its hard to draw a definite line because you can only do so much with knits and purls and there are bound to be patterns that look alike. I have heard from smaller designers like Fiber Tales that drops came out with free patterns very similar to their paid patterns. I don't think it's always the case, but when in doubt it's always better to support a person or small business than a large company! I'm actually abandoning this hat project because it's too small, but I think if I were to try it again I would choose a different pattern.

I think it could easily be boiled down a little. I really think your content has potential for a lot more views and that’s the only reason I’m commenting. So maybe try out a shorter format and see what that does? Also thought it would be nice if you could make sure to get your close-ups well in focus as the patterns and texture of your knitting is really interesting to see.
