as much as i love all natural varnish wood on boats you can't deny that the right color paints totally open up the space and gives a much needed airy vibe and when living on a boat that is so important , my boat was all varnish interior but the minute i painted it it became so less claustrophobic , this is one of my fav youtube sailboats !! the headliner also gives the boat a much more elegant look too tons better than fabric
Yes we agree! We love natural wood but the pain really opens it up and makes it feel clean as well. Aw thanks so much Anne! Means a lot to us. Looking forward to hearing from you Monday! Have a great weekend
That headliner makes the interior of this boat, I think it rivals the million dollar boat interiors like new Amel’s, the whole colour scheme and trim is one of the best I have seen, you guys did a great job, totally transformed light and open 👍😁
totally love this design, approach and execution of a normally forgotten job (we call this "pearl edged" boards here - just as ur boat is a pearl,,, kudos
I’m looking at doing this soon. The websites say this material will sag from a ceiling if not glued in place. Have you experienced any issues with sagging between the supports? Thanks!
How's that Home Depot stainless steel holding up. I have had really bad luck with non marine SS. Also avoid house grade brass. It will not last long at all in the saltwater
Really nice work you have done! We are just about to finish our 3 years refit on our 44ft trimaran we are doing in Mexico. First of all, the location where to do a refit is as important as choosing the boat. Haha. Southern mexico is not the place to recommend.
Did you simply paint over the varnished wood? What kind of paint did you use? I would love it if you could do a video detailing how you did this. Ive heard some people claim that painting over this type of wood causes problems. Any information you can share would be great. My budget will only allow me to buy an older boat but i find the dark interior of them to be dreary and cramped. The lighter interior of new models is so much more livable. So my only option will be remodeling the interior, again, on a budget. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for watching. We sanded , primed and painted. We used a brand called Coronado it’s polyurethane based paint from Regal , and it is tintable to whatever color you like. We have had it painted for 2 years and it holds up amazing! There are a couple places that need to be retouched but nothing major. And it definitely makes it feel brighter and cleaner ! Thanks for watching our vids! If u have any other questions feel free to reach out
I love the look of your new headliner. However it looked to me like you put it up without first insulating the overhead. You might come to regret that. Best of luck.

How many sqft did you use ?? How much $$$ was the entire project ??? Thanks and please be safe !!!!
We used 5 packages so it came out to around $135, plus the additional trim the total was $160 . Thanks for watching!

Why did you choose to use paint vs Gel Coat? Did you use adhesive along with yhe screws?
What lights did you use in headliner..?
I love
Epic

Thanks Cecil.
The redo looks great, just I would have left it mahogany brown original, stock standard, but yeah everyone's different
Am I mistaken, or you actually haven't used any insulation?
We used it on the sides but you can add it especially if you are in cold areas.
