This flight takes 13 hours and 5 minutes, with lunch served after take off. I had the aisle seat, which was convenient on this long-haul flight to USA. I appreciate the self-service bar, though not as much as the friendly, warm Australian hospitality onboard. Breakfast was hella wholesome and delicious!

Hiya- Dont think that plane has been refurbished as in October only 1 was - VH-OQK John Duigan- they are slow at updating the fleet - the new ones suppose to have bigger TV screens in economy ...good review... try and get a refurbished A380 ...love that plane!..
@@darrenmark5525 hey Darren this flight was on VH-OQK John Duigan on one of the first flights to LAX after refurbishment. I don't think they have replaced the screens but have updated the system.

I've got to say the food presentation in Economy on Qantas looks pleasing to the eye. That fruit plate looks yummy
I think the fruit plate is quite the best breakfast I ever had onboard - in any class! The freshness, sweetness and nice variety of fruits in that dish were well-appreciated!
Unfortunately inflight meal not served on the tray, seem a bit low standard..

I wondered if I miss this video some 2 years ago... But it's funny how just yesterday I was out of the blue asked myself how is Gavin doing and it's scary I stumbled onto your video this afternoon. Qantas inflight meals look ordinary but taste delicious, and the Roos feed their passengers well across the pacific with almost non-stop eating.

Was lucky to fly on Qantas from Dallas Forth Worth to Sydney. Almost 15 hrs and I had to say it wasn't bad at all.

Yes there was a Kiwi gal at the window. Travelling to Mexico. Tough luck. And no, the new entertainment didn't seem to offer camera views. 🙁 thanks for reminding.

What’s the leg room like?
those headsets are a mess. I accidentally broke two as my thigh knocked into them and they disintegrated. They are so flimsy. I used my own and it was good after that.
How is the legroom for Qantas A380?
It was pretty good actually. According to seatguru, it is 31 inches seat pitch, but I found the legwell stretches pretty deep!
Legroom in Economy Class of Emirates & Japan Airlines are among the best in the world.

How was the comfort on your flight for both the seat and general flight? I fly back to Sydney from LAX tomorrow on the A380 but flew over to San Fran on the 747 and was quite bumpy over the tropics and closer to Hawaii
P.s that dessert is so shit ahaha even the flight attendant told us not to eat it before we even got it served to us!! 😂😂

The snack rack is a nice touch but meals look so minimalist - they don't even use a real tray. Delta is better IMHO.
deltas inflight service recently on this route is shocking. you'd have a better experience swimming to the US from Australia.
Thanks for the amazing review! I really enjoy watching your videos. Actually, the IFEs in economy class only received a software upgrade I believe, which is similar to what the newer A330-200s (VH-EBM and later) received. This is because the screens and seat units in economy class were not changed and thus, there is no capacitive touch screen capability like we get with the newer screens on the A330-300s and 787s. The selections are the same though, just that navigating through them gets a little clunky. Have a lovely time in Los Angeles, or wherever you may be headed to, take care. :)

Correct, the economy IFE screens weren't upgraded, only a software change. However, the head-end (server) was changed, likely to the Panasonix ex3 with more content and new route map.

Good video. I’ve flown the previous economy plenty of times and I couldn’t notice much difference with the new one, apart from the mesh footrests and change of back casing behind seat. Did you get through immigration into United States ok?
Thanks Gordon! Appreciate your sharing of your experience. The entertainment system is apparently upgraded - though it lags quite badly. Overall, seems like not very drastic modifications from the previous Economy product - not that it was bad though. I've read horror stories about immigration at notorious LAX but it was really smooth for me - even though there were multiple QF flights landing at that timing in the early morning.
Reasonable flight in economy and I am glad the cabin crew were very good. !!! Excellent review of the Flying Kangaroo !! Well done as always !!

Wonderful seat you had on your flight - right at the front of the Economy section! Happy you had a great experience with Qantas back then too. Service on QF is really good and they feed you so well!
Great to see a comment on row 51 RHS - Qantas blocked 51H on both flights, and I managed to select 51J and 51K for me and my daughter, couldn’t find any useful information on these seats, hopefully same legroom as the 51H.

Great review Thanks for uploading this flight on the upgraded cabin I think the economy class could have had some more loving to be able to fly for the next 10 years as you can still see wear and tears from the back of the seats and arm rests ;)

Yeah, I am curious why Qantas opt not to do a more thorough revamp of the existing Economy Class but then again, its current Economy product is pretty competitive - self-service bars, pretty decent meals and services and product. Shame about lagging entertainment - even though it was upgraded. I would fly on the QF A380 again for sure!

Nice review and great to see the new seats. I fly this route often but have not flown with their new seats yet. I know they are slowly updating all the seats on their A380s for the new product you see on the 787s. Also saw you 747 comment. You should enjoy a flight on one while you can. Have flown QF74 a couple times / SFO-SYD and the seats and experience are quite similar (only a few more weeks and they will start using the 787 on this route as well). I do enjoy the A380 as well for spaciousness. QF teams on these flights always offer great service. So happy to hear you had a good experience as well. Thanks for sharing!!
Hi! Thank you for sharing your views, especially on the B747, happy that the service on Qantas is consistently good. Note that the new A380 seat is a minor revamp from the existing one, and is not quite on par with the B787 seat product. Seems like there is a new cushioning and system upgrade to the entertainment. Nevertheless, since I flew back on in the middle seat on a fully-packed B787 from LAX to Melbourne, I appreciate the massive cabin that is the A380 (as you mentioned, the spaciousness) and probably would choose the A380 over the B787 just for that. The Qantas cabin crew were really great on that 14 hour flight too (Shockingly, just 4 in that 100% full Economy Class). Wishing you a great week ahead!
@@FlightTravels Wow, middle seat, at least the crew were great. Agreed with the B787 vs A380, its a hard choice on those long hauls. I do think I feel a bit more refreshed after a long 787 flight but for me the space of the A380 makes the biggest difference. It encourages me to walk around more and like to be able to go up and down the stairs a couple times, especially when my total travel times are usually 25-30 hours in total (if I get good connections on both ends).

Coming from Singapore with a national carrier that takes pride in a very structured corporate-ish "highly professional" inflight service, I really can appreciate the casual warmth and genuine friendliness of the Qantas cabin crew. I won't ever find that lighthearted teasing about my broken headset onboard Singapore Airlines ever or even SQ crew greeting "Hi!" when enquiring about my meal choice. I think Qantas has got to be one of my favourite airlines! 😃 What is your favourite, out of curiosity?

First of all, thank you for taking your time in responding to every comment, it,s something i really appreciate and that stands you apart from the others :). Regarding your question, my favourite airlines are the asian an middle-east ones. I love flying (and i do whenever i have any opportunity) SQ and EK, even if that means a longer journey or multiple stopovers, because apart from the excellent service the provide and their awesome aircrafts, their hub airports experience is also outstanding. I guess i prefer the old-school flagship carriers. I also really enjoy flying CX, TG and TK. Within two weeks i´m travelling to Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur and will be trying QR for the first time, sooooo excited... I like these airlines because they provide the type and level of service we used to get in european carriers years ago, and i guess i missed that.

Thanks for sharing about your favourite carriers - no surprises on your choice airlines (how awesome)! :) Thanks for bringing up the point on the hub airport experience - that is often overlooked but crucial to the passenger experience (one example that comes to mind is EY and almost bursting AUH). Do update me on your QR experience, if you can (First-timers have the best insights :) ) I have only read glowing reviews about QR and it really should be on my 2020 bucket list to fly them again. I read QR recently also enhanced their Economy products to include sparkling wines and premium mid-flight snacks such as popcorn for flights >7 hours. It looked a bit bumpy during your flight. Really cool video. I had to chuckle when I thought the very same thing you did, "isn't that a French accent"? Rather odd to hear that on a QF flight.. the last time I flew to/ from SYD on Qantas was 22yrs ago on good old 747's!

Nice trip report! Qantas marketed that the refurbishment of a380 would have upgraded entertainment in economy.
Looks like it was a software upgrade. You would have thought they would atleast replace the old low res screens to keep up with the competition.
Qf don't care about economy class.
Not even an inch more pitch on the 380s to bring product in line with 787.
Atleast you still relaxed Aussie service with a bit of personality unlike robotic Asian and gulf carriers.

high quality service i see there...but the breakfast option can be quite unfair to those left with the fruit platter
Personaly, I would prefer the seasonal fruit platter over the warm dish because after a 13 hour night flight and a very early morning arrival, I would like to eat something light and healthy not the "big" hot dish. I think this is quite fair
@@jonasfruhling5266 most other airlines made the fruit platter as special meal so that so called health conscious ppl like you can choose that in advance, general ppl like to have heavy breakfast to get them start the day ahead

My meals aren't that healthy, I guess... 😅 Normally I also eat very heavy but in this situation, I would rather eat the fruit platter than the warm dish. After a 13 hour flight and a arrival at 6am local time (so breakfast would be served at around 4-4.30am) I wouldn't a lot... 😂

hey Irishque, thanks again for watching! Really appreciate it. In my observation on that flight, I think the fruit platter is the "lesser choice" which eventually ran out. If you like hot breakfast, you should be quite safe in receiving your preferred option. I really enjoyed the freshness and sweetness of the cut fruits though (especially the passionfruit!) and definitely won't hesitate to choose the fruit platter again... Ummmm . . . I didn't care for the "tourist trailer" on your video. To be fair, it should have included used needles and the tent cities chocking what used to be a semi-pleasant city.
