Man, I hope you're still on UA-cam... These are some handy legit tutorials. When you first posted these, UA-cam didn't even have nested replies for comments.
I love these videos! They are easy to follow and the finished shirts always make me say "Wow!"
that turned sooooooo cool!!! .......and is soda ash the same as baking soda?
Thanks for all your videos steve they have helped me along tremendously. I just wanted to know if I wanted something similar to the smiley faces eye but much bigger, would I just repeat the same scrunching process or is there another way to go about it. If you must know I am thinking about making a Triforce tie dye and was wondering if you had any advice as to how to do the center triangle/whole process. Thanks for the videos
that turned out really well. do u do it for a living or just for fun?
what kind of dye do you use? I checked out the website that and it has several different types of dye. How do I know which to buy? Also, do you think craft stores would have less expensive dyes, or is the website the best place to shop for that?
What do you do after it is all dried? Do you wash it any special way! And it is probably not. A good idea to wash several at a time right?
you can get soda as at a local arts and crafts store like joanns or michaels. the soda ash should be by where the tie dye kits are. soda ash is what causes the dye to absorb into the fabric. without it very little dye absorbs into the shirt
I was wondering, I was planning on making a shirt similar to this, just with a bass clef in the middle but I was wondering, with the design in the middle, could a do a swirl pattern or any other patterns with it instead of the one you used?
What brand dye do you use? Like if I go on the site you mentioned what is it
If your folding the shirt ans drawing the design on the back is it gonna appear in the front as well ??? @colorfulSteve
This is soo cool! And not so complicated! Thanks!
Where do you buy your dye and how do you prepare it? :) because the dye I buy turns out fine but never usually very dark on the shirts.
you can find it at a local arts crafts store that sells tie dye kits. some kits come with soda ash some you have to buy seperate but it should be in the same area as the tie dye kits
have you tried the dyes out Walmart? If you have do they work?
I really enjoy your videos. Great job !!
@nutellarulz if your dying alot of shirts get it off the website if your just dying one or two shirts you can probably just go to a craft store
I use this stuff at walmart called PHup. . it's found in the pool supply section. . you're just looking for sodium carbonate. . not to be confused with sodium BIcarbonate (baking soda). . you can get it at craft stores too. . called soda ash. . but it's the exact same stuff. ;c) awesome video !!!
@BreakingDawnLover97 yes it would instead of yellow use green
What type/brand of dye are you using?
do you have to use soda ash? the kit that i got doesnt say anything about soda ash.
That was so awesome :D Totally demented freaky smiley face LOL I have a couple of chairs from Ikea w/ white slipcovers that I am looking to tie dye. My teenagers & I are artsy but I don't want to destroy the covers because I was 'flying by the seat of my pants'. If you have any ideas on how I can do it or you can direct me to someone w/ guidance, that would be FAB! Much love
What type of dye do you use?
@kathymcerlain1 rinse it in water. i usually just put it in the washing machine by itself
so dark, can you lighten the colors in the pre-made kits?
yeah the soda ash is what makes the dye react with the fabric
do u use wet shirts or dry shirts.. do u soak in s0da ash
you can get kits with most all the stuff you need at dharma trading company. In the kit I got it came with 6oz of dye powder (yellow, turquoise, and fushia red) urea, soda ash, gloves, dust mask, rubber bands, squeeze bottles and a book. Enough to do 50 shirts for like$75. (They also sell the shirts separately in all sizes)
Thank you so much! You make it look so easy!
@indianapsychrn i use wet shirts soaked in soda ash

@fallenskates1 awesome sound good!
Thanks for sharing
going to feel dumb,but....where do i find soda ash?
okay that's actually pretty sick!!☠❤
@traviswrestles562 no before
Soda ash is sodium carbonate. You can buy a 3 lb 7 oz box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda for $3.97 in the laundry cleaning section of Walmart. It's cheaper than paying 3.97 for 8 oz. of soda ash in the crafts section. Washing soda is 100% soda ash. Don't buy baking soda. lol
Thanks for the awesome tip!! I knew there had to be a more economical way to do this! Thanks again!!!
