I love cold, winter, snow, night, darkness, north, woods, great mountains, neverending landscapes, nordic mithology and nordic music... Definitely, I was born in the wrong place: the south of Spain! (sorry for my english)
I feel the same. Born and raised in the South-East of Spain, in the South of Alicante, dry, scorched-like weeds growing like wildfire as far as the eye can see in the middle of an area where orchards, some wetlands and thousands of pine trees and other, what I call, "non-beautiful" vegetation decorate our landscapes. I came to live in Barcelona and, believe me, the situation doesn't change much. I would very much love to feel around something much more different than this. Snowy steppes, high mountains with whitened tops, houses of wood and stone beautifully built up and the only vegetation were to be deep emerald-coloured lush forests of the evergreen type of trees. So, summarizing, and forgive me for my passionate enthusiasm regarding the topic... Yeah, I understand the feeling😆 P.S. Don't you ever apologize for your English. It's not just that it's good enough already, but at the very least you are one of the only Spaniards who tries his best to speak something different than his own language. Cheers for that, mate!
In the US much has been lost and forgotten, luckily through UA-cam I am able to listen to this and many other artists from my ancestral homelands across northwestern Europe.
I'm a metalhead through-and-through, but I grew up southern so I have a love of old folk music as well. This genre is my go-to when I wanna listen to something a little harder, but still kinda folk-like.
It is always a pleasure to hear incredible music such as this. It's even better that I can buy it and support artists who so clearly love what they do and gift us with their talents. And wow, so much epic storytelling. The bards salute you!
This is truly one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed. You, sir, are a genius. I always listen to this when I really need to get into deep work and focus on what I'm doing.
Antti Martikainen, you have surpassed yourself. What an enthralling and melodious folk metal video you have composed. I will love this until the Gods claim my soul. Cheers from Scandinavia.
Beyond Epic! Your Finnish brothers and sisters in America represent with incredible zeal and ferocity. The West Remembers their Roots! Emme Koskaan Unohda Kotia!
As an official nation it's not old.. but finns/saami are the most ancient culture of europe, even mentioned in roman texts not to mention DNA evidence which clearly shows we are the "indians/aboriginals" of this continent.
@@normoloid Well, you're the aboriginals of the Northern part of the continent. Indo-Europeans (including Germanics, Celts, Italics, Slavs, etc.) are in fact native to Europe as well, albeit the eastern parts of it.
I like to go back to this song every so often. I can feel the nordic power in the song transporting you to a world where you are a character in a greater story. The rawness, the powerfulness, is so majestic, and is honestly your greatest work by far, and what I will remember the creator for. Keep experimenting and making great music my man.
This song truly is epic! The more I listen, the more amazing it becomes. It dominates my mind when I can't listen to music. Quite possibly the best composition I have ever heard. VERY well done, Mr. Martikainen!
This song is fantastic and its crazy nice to hear a metal variety of music that doesn't spend most of the song screaming or half of it cussing. Also you feel taken away to the worlds in the beautiful pictures as shown in this video! Beautiful!
That cussing and screaming thing is more of an american style, in Europe metal is usually combined with other styles, such as folk music or classical music and if bands do have screaming vocals they usually also have clean vocals as well. Other examples of songs like this would be Korpiklaani - With Trees and Ensiferum - Lai Lai Hei.
@@themaster1670 That's a really dumb statement, "The cussing and screaming thing is more an american style". For every "Cussing and Screaming" band in America you could name I could name one from Europe. And no, I'm not American.
I was feeling down in the dumps and just happened across this song on a random recommended and I'm so glad I did. It sounds cheesy but honestly your music in general helps me to get out of depressive episodes and focus on what I need to focus on. Thank you so much.

i've been actively making music for 14 years and there is not much that can give me goosebumps when i listen to it. but your songs definitely do. amazing work!
Who dafuq would downvote such a masterpiece?? Both visually and audio, Antti, you've done an excellent job! A perfect mixture of metal and folk. Just perfect.
@@Mp57navy Every genre of music has its fans. In my opinion, I never downvote for music that I don't like if its made with skills and passion. I just stop listening to it and go on with music I like (or even not, I'm always ready to discover new styles of music). Downvoting is for things that are badly made and sure this is not the case here, so I doubt that real metalheads downvoted this. Maybe fanatic religious people downvoted because it's kind of pagan and it's about a spherical Earth. But no problem, calculated today the downvotes are only 1.34 pct.
Just wanted to say thank you. Your music is how I calm myself after difficult days. A friend of mine put me on to you after I mentioned that I was looking for the soundtrack to a particular game. Thank you for creating such beautiful music.
I listened to this while riding my bike, didn't even realize it was over 25 minutes till it was over. That 25 minutes was definitely not wasted. This was bloody fantastic!
Have a short story from 2021 for you: The song at 18:30 is memorabled forever in my heart... for hours I hiked + ran up to a high mountain in valais ( later listened to this music) and the last 30-40 meters I climbed free solo.. at my mental, emotional and physical limit , I reached the top. The sight + the feels were undescribable!
Last year, I ran the "Rime of the Frostmaiden" adventure for my D&D group, which features a goddess of winter seeking to freeze the world forevermore. During the final battle against Auril, I put this on in the background, and it was perfectly awesome. Thank you!
Thank you for this music... Today is a sunny spring-like day in Switzerland and your music reminds me of the time when I travelled to Finland several times a year :) I used to listen to Ensiferum's Unsung Heroes album in the plane and this sound is stuck to my ears forever ahah In two days I have very important exams for my future profession and your music added to all this light in my kitchen just gave me a lot of mental strength for revisions !! Woohoo
I like the build-up composition, starting with 'everything is fine' to a climax when Earth is in great trouble (Battle for the celestial sphere) with the snow storms, to a moment that everything has calmed down (start of Eternal Bliss at 23:05), but knowing that Earth became powerfull again (the subtle music change with the waterfall at 24:06).
@@toaninh9120 Kalevala literally means Land of Kalev, Kalev was believed to be first king of finns and book of Kalevala tales is about sons of Kalev. I stumbled upon this song randomly and I am so glad I did! Absolute masterpiece! At first I thought this was an album, only to find out it's just a 25 minute long song lol, most epic shit I've ever heard!
Dunno how I got from a finnish man screaming at a black bear to this, but I'm not dissapointed in the results! Nicely done with this whole album, Antti. You're phenomenal at this stuff!

I noticed that it has elements of a bolero but instead of repeating with more added each time, it seems to mirror itself, starting from the beginning going to the end at 5 and then back to the beginning with more added... as if you're revisiting the song more each time you hear it and gaining more perspective of the picture it paints. Beautiful work and brilliantly composed!
I didn't know that Kalevala was a real place before now, I only knew it as a planet in the Mandalore system... I think the Mandalorians should be honoured to have a planet named after such an awesome place!
Its not real place; Its name of story (bit on tongue twist, kalevala if you swap e and a becomes kalavale ,which means exaggerating lie; such as "I caught Thiiiiis big fish" )
It's absolutely brilliant! I actually read the whole Kalevala, and this album gives me back every epic feeling which I felt reading that legendary, beautiful book. Bravo!

Scented from the vines and flowers,
Whispered to me as I followed
Flocks in land of honeyed meadows,
And the many-colored Kimmo.
Many runes the cold has told me,
Many lays the rain has brought me,
Other songs the winds have sung me;
Many birds from many forests,
Oft have sung me lays n concord
Waves of sea, and ocean billows,
Music from the many waters,
Music from the whole creation,
Oft have been my guide and master.

Laid them in a chest of boxes,
Boxes lined with shining copper.
Long they lay within my dwelling
Through the chilling winds of winter,
In my dwelling-place for ages.
Shall I bring these songs together
From the cold and frost collect them?
Shall I bring this nest of boxes,
Keepers of these golden legends,
To the table in my cabin,
Underneath the painted rafters,
In this house renowned and ancient?
Shall I now these boxes open,
Boxes filled with wondrous stories?
Shall I now the end unfasten
Of this ball of ancient wisdom,
These ancestral lays unravel?
Let me sing an old-time legend,
That shall echo forth the praises
Of the beer that I have tasted,
Of the sparkling beer of barley.
Bring to me a foaming goblet
Of the barley of my fathers,
Lest my singing grow too weary,
Singing from the water only.
Bring me too a cup of strong-beer,
It will add to our enchantment,
To the pleasure of the evening,
Northland's long and dreary evening,
For the beauty of the day-dawn,
For the pleasure of the morning,
The beginning of the new-day.
Often I have heard them chanting,
Often I have heard them singing,
That the nights come to us singly,
That the Moon beams on us singly,
That the Sun shines on us singly;
Singly also, Wainamoinen,
The renowned and wise enchanter,
Born from everlasting Ether
Of his mother, Ether's daughter.

Dude Bro totally in agreement.

Same here, this music just puts me in another zone.
i’m far from belonging to finland or even europe but i fell in love with the kalevala and the old mythologies from the north of europe 🤍
00:00 - part 1 the birth
02:45 - an ode to Kalevala
06:07 - the northland trails
08:56 - old mans lament
12:21 - the forger of horizons
16:36 - witch of the abyss
18:31 - battle for the celestial sphere
21:04 - restoring the sun and moon
23:04 - eternal bliss
It has become a daily ritual to listen to great pieces of this song and send myself into a meditative state. I wish you great joy.
The music is good, but the scenery is breathtaking. What I would give to be able to see all of it in person. I am mesmerized.

Downvoting is for things that are badly made and sure this is not the case here, so I doubt that real metalheads downvoted this.

"live" in Kalevala? dude Kalevala is an epic comprised of folklores and mythologies
@@toaninh9120 a village in Russia was named after the epic
