You would never think Rick Steves was only a travel programme maker, however excellent.....this is one of the most informative, intelligent and well thought out programmes on the Renaissance I've ever seen. Extremely impressive.
this is so enjoyable... perfect timing for my re-discovery of fine art and the great masters... Let's do more Rick... take us all the way to Van Gogh..
Wonderful! The story is very well organized and very informative. My many memories of paintings are well sorted and future visits of museums in Europe.
Thank you for keeping the history of art alive and vibrant! My instructor on art history in the late 1060s, Rupert Kilgore. Brought it to life for me! He connected the artists, the times, the influences, society, technology. All of it contributed to the amazing result. When I finally got to see the sculpture of David, La Pieta, the Vatican, the art of Florence, in spite of my knowledge, my jaw dropped. It is all more awesome than we can convey with words. Thank you.
Great to see you back in Florence Rick! 👏🏼 Your travel presentations are unequaled - your warm friendly rapport, plus well scripted and well researched presentations are simply excellent. Thankyou! Your videos bring joy to my day 🙂

Thank you for allowing us to learn more about the artistic heritage of Europe without making things complicated. I love your narrative style and intelligent use of imagery. This really helps me immerse myself in awareness with art before my trip to Europe.
Thank you Rick, for making more of these wonderful informative videos. I really appreciate the effort that you and your team have made to produce these. Please keep making them. You have a loyal fan in me?
Thank you so much for bringing this period of art history to life for us, Rick Steves! I've been fortunate to explore many of these places and witness some of these artistic treasures firsthand. However, your insightful commentary elevates the experience to a whole new level, thereby further enriching my memories!
Thank you so much for making episodes like these, especially from the angle of seeing art in Europe. There are so many books and videos about history, but your way is very easy to understand, and combined with your previous travel videos is wonderful. I always watch your videos to decide where to travel, and how to travel, and of course, I buy your guidebooks too. For the art piece you mentioned in the video, can you tell us where is it in the subtitles?
Remember that of what you call Italy , more than half was part of Spain : Kingdom of Naples ( from Abruzzo all the way down ) , Kingdom of Sicily , Duchies of Parma , Modena and Milano , some ex pontifical little states near Pisa .
So can we say west is more of Greeks Roman civilisation rather than judio Christian, Christian and Jews were not even born in Europe. Look at democracy, tolerance for all faith, multiple gods accepted, story telling, liberalism, architecture, drama, paintings, Socratic method, science. Most are greeeko- Roman ideas.
One major incorrect aspect that stands out in these videos is the consistent mispronunciation of Michelangelo. It's not "MichAelangelo." Getting an obvious thing wrong makes me question the legitimacy of all else that is being taught.
@LukeTRandall OH Ima blast. Especially since I don't have to rely on third grade level insults. When you teach something, you teach it correctly. Otherwise you shouldn't be teaching at all.
One of my favorite period: Renaissance
Quiet everyone! Rick Steves just dropped 3 hours of art history!!!
