Rick Steves is the type of show I dreaded my dad putting on when I was younger. Now I love it and could watch it all day. Funny how that works.

Afraid the youth today, wouldn't even hangout with dad, even if he watched Rick on UA-cam on a 55 inch smart TV. They would choose to isolate themselves with mindless tick tock on their phones. It's sad 😢

Another incredibly good, non elitist, clear, easy to understand, informative, well put together, upbeat, relaxed, first class documentary on art. A masterpiece itself.....and he even plays the piano like a pro.

I wish Rick's scholarly, fun, kindly video-musical-discussions of art and architecture and history had been available to me during my formal education. He nails the essence and spirit everytime, succintly, memorably, sweetly and with kindness and magnaminity every time.
You really should package these on a few DVDs for high school and college humanities and sciences studies.
Whenever I want a break or inspiration or just some positive fun, I'll watch one of Rick's videos or just a few minutes. I know I'll always have an accurate view of reality, clear understanding and a dose of Rick's goodness, humanity and natural spirituality.
    His work is good service.

Great guy all-around. I'd feel relaxed doing psilocybin with him.

Those vivid blues and reds in baroque art are so energizing and beautiful!! I got to go inside the dome of St.Paul's in 1974. You could clear hear the whispered words of someone on the other side of the dome!

I wonder if someone knows who could possibly had crafted, built, decorated with gold, composed, painted and carved all that in just of two centuries.
I mean every single piece must be invented, designed, produced, assembled, delivered and placed beautifully.
I mean every single stage requires equipment, adjustments, tools, materials and energy.
    Etc., etc.
    Very complicated process.

Can anybody tell me why the tourist host talk about the ancient European art and history in the present simple tense when referring to the past, why he chose the simple tense rather than the past simple tense???

    • @orion7763
      @orion7763 3 місяці тому +1

The use of the present simple tense is fully correct in this context. The art may have been created in the past, but much of this art- and all the art shown in this documentary- still exists today. Use the of the simple present tense emphasizes that this art still exists in the modern day and that it is timeless and significant.
Compare "The statue of David stands as a symbol of the Renaissance", which in the present simple tense highlights the timelessness of this statue through the centuries.
with the past simple tense "The statue of David stood as a symbol of the Renaissance", suggesting that the statue may either no longer exist, or if it does, that it's value as a symbol of the Renaissance has diminished over time.

I find it hard to believe that anyone could have a hard time appreciating a baroque cathedral. But there you go, I guess that's your mind on Protestantism.

Napoleon wasn't a ''Tyrant". He was a brilliant defender of France from anty-France coalitions (which it's started before of him as even a general). By his genious reformations France and Europe transformed into much liberal way as never before. Your attandance to Napoleon is unprofessional and ungreatfull. Im regreet i spent time to watch this.
