One of the best videos that I have ever seen about Andalucia, where I lived when retired in 2001 until 2022. I had visited all the cities shown in the video ,some several times. How good to hear and see the 21 years again. Now aged 89 living near Cambridge, U.K..
Get some jellied eels.
watched this 4 times in the last couple of years! Finally, tomorrow I am finally off to Spain to see all these places! Muchas gracias!
Have a fantastic time. I’m going to Spain in four days. I’ll be there for three weeks.
@@wendymeulemans708 Thanks! Good time to go before it gets hot. Ill visit Portugal as well! Have a fantastic time!
Enjoy!
@@rolandkel7696 Thanks! just came back! Was awesome! Beautiful weather was cool and rainy at times!
Spain is the bomb! One of the most beautiful countries on earth, with a great culture, incredible architecture, countless historical and UNESCO World Heritage sites, friendly people, awesome climate, fantastic beaches and incredible food, it's hard to beat.
Went to Madrid in 2019 and fell in love with the country and its' people. I hope to visit again but trek through the southern portion. Sevilla and Granada are on the list.
El 90% de Andalucia es extraordinario. El Flamenco aparte.😂🇪🇸🤗
Sorry but Nowhere beats ITALY and I live in both countries. Of course I love Andalucia as it's one of the places where I have chosen to live ,but I find that Italy has more diversity and lushness about it,not to mention all of the things it's famous for.
@@angelaberni8873Spain Beats Italy by far.
This is your personal opinion. It's not the truth. Spain is an awesome country with amazing landscapes, charming historical cities, delicious food and sexy people. @@angelaberni8873
I am from Puerto Rico and I have visited Spain and it is a beautiful country its where my grandparents are from. Thank you Steve.
Mr.Rick Steves,
First of all,i convey my best wishes and greetings to you on this New Year,2024 !
I appreciate your visit to Andalusia,Spain ! It's a wonderful combination of Muslim and Christian culture,a happy blend of mosque and church ! The beautiful Muslim architecture is definitely a treat to the eyes.Apart from being a historian and tour guide, you seem to have a knack for cooking as well, the way you have narrated the recipe of a certain food,it adds a flavour to it.
Very well said for the Rock of Gibraltar : " The Rock itself seem to represent stability and power!"
Your ability to narrate with such great enthusiasm, encourages the viewers to watch your travel videos with immense pleasure !
Thanks to you for your kind endeavour ! 😊
Thank you. I have long searched where to buy a bottle of Sandeman Sherry which I akways called Sandman. I use to buy it in the 70's as holiday gifts with Biscottis to give away. I do not drink but can now buy a bottle for cake making. Ah, Jerez, thank you. Bravo for all your valued work. You always capture the wonderment and history of each of your destinations.
I visited in 2019, and I was not disappointed. Such a beautiful country, and so much to see, do, and appreciate.
This video was so good i was sad when it ended. I lived there when I was in the Navy. It made me kind of lonesome. Thank you Rick Steves. ❤
Thank you Mr. Steves for this wonderful virtual tour. I am a Filipina and our culture was greatly influenced by Spanish traditions. Our native language incorporates the use of Spanish words. We also celebrate Semana Santa just like they do it there because Philippines is predominantly a Catholic country. Thank you for your efforts to educate us viewers.
Mantones de Manilla 😉
Beautiful Spain! Great country and friendly people...
Well Do not confuse Andalusia with Spain. They are quite different. Andalusia is the oldest kingdom of Europe, nothing to do with Spain.
@@logpiv5890 I am a Spaniard and I tell you Andalucía (beautiful region) is part of Spain...No confusion here at all...Just facts
@@logpiv5890 I don't know where do you get that? Andalucia is one of the 17 autonomous regions of Spain, the people have a distinctive accent, just like most other regions in Spain, but they're proud to be Spaniards.
@@loumcast Andalusia is a colony of Spain. Oficially/legally Andalusía is a Nation into Spanish State. Spain was a poor part of Andalusia. But Andalusia was conquered by Spain. Andalusia is not the same as Spain at all. Andalusia is very badly treated in Spain for that difference. Many many singers in Andalusia have made protest sons against Spain. For example yesterday in the Final of famous Cadiz Carnivals. The winner, the "comparsa oveja negra", literally has sung that Andalusia is a w ho. re for Spain. You can find that video online. In only one day has more than 200.000 visits. It seen that many people knows that. Not only me.
@@logpiv5890 The Cadiz carnival is known for doing those chirigotas, they're not serious, they're made to make fun of people, regional costumes, celebrities, politicians, the government, etc., just because they called themselves wh.r.s, doesn't mean it's true. I have travelled extensively throughout Spain, people like you and the nuts in Catalunya and the Vasque country want to divide the country into tiny states, that is crazy. Spaniards need to stop that BS, Spain is too small to be divided into smaller countries, all the constant name calling and complaining of the different regions it's tearing the country apart. The reason the USA is such a great nation, it's because people are united, it doesn't matter if they're black, white, Asian or Latinos, whether they're from different parts of the world, have different religions or customs, they live peacefully and consider themselves US citizens. Spaniards have a lot to learn from the USA, they copy everything else from North America, why don't they start copying how people behave, and how we all consider ourselves Americans, no matter where we come from or where we are in the country.
Thank you so much for sharing
Nice and detailed video of Spain 🇪🇸
I'll be in Southern Spain by April and Andalucia is part of the itinerary.
Me too!
I visited Madrid in 2019. I loved it! Spaniards are beautiful people. Well dressed, well mannered, friendly, helpful and family oriented.
My wife and I are looking forward to retiring in Cordoba. Love that Beautiful City!!
I live in Granada.
Most of the flamenco shows are tourist traps. I recommend ‘Jardines de Zoraya’.
Sevilla, specifically the Triana district across the river, has awesome flamenco for anyone looking for it! It’s where it is said flamenco started
Thank you for the wonderful virtual tour of Andalusia.
I would love to visit and live in Spain. I love flamenco and many areas of Spain and Portugal
Flamenco is from Andalusia. Not Spain or Portugal.
@@logpiv5890 So Andalusia is a separate country from Spain. Also, I did not write that Flamenco was in Portugal or Spain. I wrote that I loved it.
In fact, Flamenco is performed in the US as well
@@ArtFreeman First, Andalusia legally is a Nation. Spain was a poor part of Andalusia before Castile conquered Andalusia. Flamenco its an traditional Andalusian song. Nothing to do with Spain. It's true that you can ear flamenco in each part of the world but this is proof of its greatness not a loss of identity. Almost every day politicians and tv of Madrid/Barcelona (spain) insult andalusians for their way of living, customs, songs, idiom, and more. You can find a Royal Andalusian Orchesta in Israel or in Holland, because they respect Andalusia and they know that Andalusia is not the same as Spain. Andalusia is a colony of Spain, thats de only relation. Spain govern rename all the andalusian things as spanish. For example andalusian horse is renamed spanish horse,. The same for andalusian guitar, andalusian language. If you like Andalusia, i thought you should to know that.
@@logpiv5890 I would love to live in Andalusia, Spain, or Portugal. The history of this area fascinates me; of course, I love Flamenco. Thank you for the explanation.
@@logpiv5890 You're a radical person and a separatist. The language in Andalucia is Spanish (with a regional accent). Andalucia is an autonomous region of Spain, it's not a colony. No one has renamed the Andalucian horse breed a Spaniard breed, people from Madrid do not insult people in Andalucia, that is lie if anyone insults the people from Andalucia are those that live in Catalunya. Andalucian people consider themselves Spaniards and it has been like that for centuries, ever since the Reconquista.. Stop spreading lies and propaganda. You're giving Andalucia a bad name by making these outlandish comments and only you believe to be true.
Nice to be with you travelling and enjoying culture and...culture. Friendly salutations, thank you so much 🤗
watching from Brazil 🇧🇷
Greek-Spanish painter Goya? Goya was not Greek, I think you are confusing him with El Greco.
Es un guiri anglosajón, no lo puede evitar.
Love from INDIA🇮🇳❤️

Thank you.
Ole! Truly spectacular.
Most impressive in Sevilla was the Setas de Sevilla. Too bad you missed it. Yes, it is modern but gives views of archeological digs beneath, a festival area, and an outlook that juxtaposes old and new Sevilla. Definitely go see it!
Here and in the rest of old Spain what you see is the remnants of one of the greatest empires in the history of Mankind. The Spanish and the Portuguese empires, the first 2 global empires. And the center of the two main global legacies of the spanish empire: the spanish language and christianization of half of the world. There are today 21 countries that have Spanish as their official language, and as many countries that were historically catholic, because of Spain. Of course the legacy of Spain encompasses a lot more in all the fields of human development: sciences, engineering, art, literature, music, etc.
not sure, but this video looks like it was filmed in the late 90s or early 2000s.
It was. It is a compilation of his various travels in that region.
Bien Gracias, nice video.
VIVA ESPANA MY FAMILY PRIDE!!!.
Yum, Moorish Paella😀
Amazing video ❤❤❤
Its wonderful, but you missed out Cadiz! What a shame!
En Andalucia casi todo es Bueno, magnifico y curioso. 😂😂😊
Una aclaración, it Was Spain and Los Reyes Católicos Isabel y Fernando Who recupater Back to Spain.
Last year I went to Gibraltar in July, for one day, Malaga for 8 days, it’s amazing country, beaches, food and everything! This year in July Alicante (Benidorm) again I’m going there!👍👍👍👍👍!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Sorry you chose Benidorm ! Many nice resorts in Alicante.
Reconquista for the win!
What about Cadiz? Does anyone recommend that city?
Granada is sheltered by the Sierra “Nevada” mountain.
Is this a recent video or a re-release of an older video?
Hacienda luisita, chinese... VPO.. TY!
There is the square puzzle video... VPO.. TY!
An der hacienda louisita... German version... VPO.. TY!
La imagenes son ya un poco antiguas ... Andalucia esta super progresada.
Nope, Nothing in me says must visit this area of Spain, although another great video
A cheerful blend of enthusiasm and cheeky irreverence - saving the best until last:

well, the Andalucian history is a clear reminder for all that neither a religion, nor a group of people is better than the others. Everybody has multiple flaws. A group of people that holds a religion cancels the culture, architecture and traditions of the other. No religion is better than the other, so is people. Actually Flemenco has Gypsy(ROMANI) origin.
No Flamenco isn’t of Gypsy origin. It was only influenced by Gypsies. Wheres the Flamenco from other European countries that has large Gypsy communities? All of that violin balkan gypsy music sounds nothing like it.There are also arguments about the origin of certain things from Balkan countries too with regards to Gypsies. If you cant see the obvious roots of Flamenco then you are lost. This is the real cultural appropriation,Stealing Andalusias history along with its culture just because it has some Gypsy influence. The amount of examples that show culture that existed before the Gypsies got there and is part of Flamenco has already been shown a million times yet people like you still push your narrative.
Need to keep out of it and spare us your limited wikipedia knowledge
Granada la ciudad más bella
R these videos copied from rick Steve’s with his permission? These r reruns from old rick Steve’s episode
I was curious too. I looked it up and this channel is associated with PBS whom he had or still has a show it so, yes, I believe it would be with his permission:)
Christ is Risen; 🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀 for Carnevalè!
Time before mobile phones ruined the whole travel experience
Moslem heritage in Spain was great. That is the roots Spain famous in the world.
"Women wear outlandish dresses (to the April Seville fair) that would look clownish all alone". I find that remark ignorant, insensitive and bigoted.
I was surprised he said something like that, myself.
I wasn't too keen on his remarks about Malaga either as I consider it a lovely city that he didn't even bother to visit.
Like from Side
interesting take they dont want to lose their culture just their weather ? erm ?
Yes, to a great degree. They build their own neighborhoods, spend most of their time together speaking their mother language, refusing to learn the local language ... all the while enjoying the gorgeous weather and sea, pretty much the only reason they move to live there! Cheaper cost of living would be another reason.
What culture? Warm Beer.
💙
The way he said the British "Expats"/Immigrants, don't make an effort to learn Spanish or immerse into Spanish society like that was a good thing....LOL
What's your name?

Actually Andalusia is a Islamic empire, comes from Morocco, and then goes on Spain .
Like look the architecture of palaces, it's kind of strange that are same architecture of Moroccans palaces .
En realidad el proceso fue al contrario.
La cultura andalusí enriqueció lo que ahora es Marruecos
The first thing is that those who conquered the peninsula were the Umayyad Caliphate, who came from Syria, Morocco has never been anything, a territory occupied by some and others.
The second thing is that the Alhambra is older than any Moroccan structure, therefore, knowledge traveled in the opposite direction, from Spain to Morocco. In Morocco they have never invented anything.
The Spanish empire christianised their colonies in the America, so is Moor empire! One is not better or worse from the other! It is a historical reminder.
Not a reconquista ! It was a Conquista
It doesnt exist Re-conquest. Andalusia was the first kingdom of Europe. Andalusia never was a part of Spain before Conquest.
It’s not about “Re” due to Spain, the country, but “Re” due to the area being Christian, then Islamic, and the Christian World’s desire to make it Christian again.

The Moors did not conquer all of Iberia, they never conquered Celtic Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia or the Basque Country, from those unconquered lands the Reconquista began. Nor was Spain ever predominately Muslim Steve, the Christian population was conquered but the majority never converted. The Europeans had the same math Steve, how do you think they built the giant cathedrals? Come on Steve, historically you are usually better than this.
Why do English people say paieia. There is no I sound in paella and English people pronounce two. It’s Pa e lla. Three vowel sounds, a e and a and I hear five and only o e consonant sounds when that ll there is a consonant not a vowel. It sounds horrible. Paieia.
Muslims didnt build those building, they ruledthe country at that time but all those beautiful buildings are built by Spanish engineers and workers, they were only getting orders to copy Islamic writings and carves, that why most of the writing in arabic is not readable, excep the word of الله & محمد because its repeated everywhere so it become familier to the Spanish workers to copy it right
The equestrian centre is also a place of cruelty. It is not natural for horses to do those tricks, It is an equestrian circus
I am definitely enjoying this because that's one place I really want to go. BUT I think you misspoke when you said that the slaves who hauled water in Ronda were Christian. WHY wouldn't the slaves be Jewish? AND why would they actually have to use slaves rather than people whose jobs it was to do such type of work which could be Muslims Christians or Jews? Please investigate that and if necessary correct it.
Rick Steves, I don't want to hear from you again. Don't put this on my UA-cam channel, please; I consider this man very offensive and his motives dangerously ulterior.
why?
Traditions dans les génocides et l'histoire continue dites vous que c'est l'humanisme occidental , la comédie à ce jour ...!
I know this name Andalucia only because of Islam
I live in Granada.
Most of the flamenco shows are tourist traps. I recommend ‘Jardines de Zoraya’.
to be honest you can buy flamenco show tickets very affordable in seville and the theater where the show was presented was so close to my hotel, in Madrid and Barcelona, those shows can cost the double,
