I found a mythical creature called the Underwater Panther, which counterbalances the Thunderbird. Underwater Panthers were believed to be helpful and protective guides when crossing lakes or rivers, but were more commonly known as agressive and terrifying beasts, that destroyed any who crossed into it's territory. Their snarls were said to sound like rushing rapids or storms, and they were able to breath and move freely underwater. They had the body of a cougar or lynx, with scales instead of fur, spiny ridges along their backs, and incredibly long tails. They also sometimes had the horns of bison or deer. I've already created an oc of this creature, and i'm currently making a backstory, personality, name, abilities, art etc etc Thanks for the help Ty & Elic!
this is a very interesting concept. I could potentially use this in my own fanfiction AU along with extensive genetic engineering by the chrysalis regime to have each different type of changeling fit a certain role. perhaps the beetle changelings we're used to could be assault troopers, the moth changelings maybe scouts and reconnaissance, termite changelings as construction, spider changelings as defense and combat medics, hornet changelings as more powerful dogfighters, and if I want to get really dark I could have bee changelings with massively accelerated growth. regardless of their role by default, every single one of them can shapeshift, but usually beetles, moths and spiders are used for disguising missions given this idea I'm thinking of making thorax a termite (thorax in my AU was never deployed) and ocellus a spider (a trainee for an elite defense squad) which will have to depend on what I want to write with these 2 characters.
My Non-Pony OC is a zebra named Amarika. She's a magic apprentice who moved to Ponyville for a change of lifestyle. She is likeable, but clumsy and stubborn.
I have an albino reformed changeling as my sona (representative OC with little story). Most of my reasons for making her the way she is are from a youtube-use standpoint. "Why a changeling?" So if I want to discuss a different subject other than MLP, I can do so by shapeshifting for the video without it seeming random and unexplained.(For example, a cat when talking about Warrior Cats, a human when talking about art/drawing, etc.) "Why albino? And why that little thingy behind her ear?" I hated the color scheme of the show's reformed Changelings, so albinism would be a good reason for her to have such a different color pallet. And so she's recognizable in any video, no matter what her form. You see a white red-eyed dragon with a branch on her horn or a white red-eyed warrior cat with a tiny twig behind her ear, you can recognize it as the same character and UA-camr. (Also, story-wise explanation, because albinism is a lack of pigment, she can't shift any pigment around to change colors, whereas black or colorful changelings can. And she just likes the twig to fit her name.) My second choice of sona would be a Hydra, so each head could give a different opinion on the subject being discussed (Almost like collab-ing with myself ^-^) and third choice may have been a Hymasaid, a wolf-based species from an entirely different fandom. So... I guess I'm just not a pony, huh? :P

I have a cat oc, she pretty much STANDS out as much as any non-pony oc in the community, the character design and the backstory is amazing for me. Tyandaga if you are reading this gryphons personally are the most overused non-pony oc.

This is very true. Many things have been based off viking culture which include this same concept for an afterlife. For example the klingons in star trek, and the nords in elder scrolls / skyrim. Each has a similar afterlife where if you die honorably in battle you go to the good place where you can eat and dine for all eternity, and if you desert in battle or die of some other cause you are sent to a bad afterlife where you fight an eternal war for the rest of eternity, constantly dying and being put back into it.

Honestly, I thought about getting a non-pony OC, and I even knew what species and everything, but there was one big factor that convinced me to stay with a pony. See, I'm personally rather fascinated by the people in the real world think differently and have different goals that all somehow works to build a society. In particular, I'm love learning about how a person has, or is in the process of, found themselves and deciphered what they want to do with their lives. So naturally, one of the biggest things that fascinates me about MLP is the concept of cutie marks, so I really want that icon that symbolizes all of that for me in my OC. Since, canonically so far, only ponies can get cutie marks, the choice of staying with a pony OC became obvious to me. However, that does bring another interesting topic. In all technicality, the show hasn't explicitly said that non-ponies can't get cutie marks, only that it hasn't been seen. That's like skirting along the edge of show canon. How far from canon can an OC get and still be considered an MLP OC? Is it even acceptable for an OC to break MLP canon in any way at all?
Sharing Heart, it is possible. It is YOUR OC. YOU can do whatever, like break MLP canon. Like me. I used guns on my character when MLP has a strict restriction on violence, and also, guns do not yet exist in MLP. But look what I did! Breached the boundaries for the MLP canon. I put guns on my OC. What about you? Do anything you want. Don't restrict yourself to not-so-self-imposed borders, express yourself. Let your imagination run wild!

I personally think that non-pony OC's are an incredible way to show off what kind of person you are. I personally have a non-pony OC who is a griffon. After trying to experiment on what I wanted I finally settled on a Griffin and another point that solidifjed it was the episode "Lost Treasure of Griffonstone." so I wante to go outside the norm. So I think non pony OC's are amazing to really express what kibd of person you are
I settled on the changeling mainly because I could decide on what I should be and since changelings can shape shift I could technical be all of those things I thought of being.
The greatest pony OC hybrid of all.....DRAGONPONIES!!! The most glorious hybrids in all of Equestria! Their magnificent wings is those of a dragon's. Same goes with their fiery breath. Their fearsome jaws, as sharp as a sword and hard as a rock! They truly make the greatest leaders of all. They are also endangered and exotic creatures. Yea! I share more dragon traits than pony traits though. The reason my OC is a dragon-pony is because I play Legend of Spyro, and I'm a Spyro fan. I didn't want to draw many representations of myself. I love drawing, but you can get tired of it and want to find a reason to make less OCs.

I'm working on an Enfield oc, Enfields are a type of fox like chimera with the forelegs of a raptor from Irish mythology. I discovered them in William O' Connor's Dracopedia Beastiary.
If you wanna take it strict they aren't. Cake is not bread yet it is a mix between a muffin and bread. You could take it as a grey zone, and I wouldn't argue with that, but strictly spoken "anything that is not a pony" also meaning hybrids. Because hybrids are hybrids not the species they mutated from or got mixed with.
Depends which half is dragon and which is pony? If the front half is pony then is technically a subspecies of pony. or is the front half dragon? Then it is a non pony Oc. I'm going by that Sliverquill's Oc that is consider a non pony Oc ,even though he is a Hippogirff.
Pony/dragon hybrids are *technically* Longmas/Kirins, mythological half-horse, half-dragon creatures that originate from Chinese and Japanese mythologies, respectively. Since Kirins are already canon in the FiM universe and a Longma is a main character in Them’s Fightin’ Herds, a game that was based on FiM (and even has Lauren Faust as its character designer!), you could go for both!
Just one oc? I have a whole species. Allow me to introduce...the Elemental Wolves. These wolves are special wolves that can each control one of the 6 elements listed, Fire, Water, Grass, Rock, Wind, and Lightning. They all live in one big clearing that is protected by a spell much like the one in the canterlot wedding and crystal empire but when hit with enough power, only a small hole will appear. This clearing is called Wolves Nest (mostly cus its similar to a huge nest). This area is more on a island near Equestria called Elemental Valley. Back to the wolves, they are one pack but because theres around 200 wolves, there are 6 different alphas, each controlling one of the six elements. The Fire elements live closer to a big dormant volcano, which only erupts every 1,000 years. The Water elements live near a lake fairly close to the volcano, but far enough to not cause trouble. The Wind and Lightning elements like to be all over the place. The Rock elements live at a rocly patch full of boulders sturdy enough to climb and the Grass elements like to live in a forest near the middle. In the very center there is a clearing where pups train and learn how to control their powers. Each wolf has a unique pattern and color palette and personality also. i know this is long but its worth it :)

For me at first I was indecisive untill I got my very first cosmetic from Team Fortress 2 cosmetic case. It was called the Flamedeer and it was a mask for pyro, at first I just wanted the mask, but then after a while it helped me create my first official OC, Caboose the Flamedeer. A character that is normal but at the same time is unique, Flamedeer isn't just a name in his case.
I went and subscribed to Elicite's channel just because I like his voice a lot. My OC is sort of non-pony ... he's a pony/whitetail deer mix. Not totally a pony, but pretty close.
The mlp version of my oc is a dragon from the mountain range between the Crystal Empire and Yakyakistan. It is a hard to find them because... 1: They live in the deep mountain caves, bearing fur and feathered wings intend of scales to better insulate against the cold and eating crystals that are abundant there. 2: Because they have an innate affinity for illusion magic to hide from the yettis. Not like quite like changeling magic because actually altering form is much more difficult than the more common blending into the background. The story of my oc, Silver Scale, is that she wanted to see the rest of the world, particularly Equestria, so she learned how to take the form of a pony. However, she is not all that good at keeping track of what particular species of pony she is at any given point. She is also very shy and constantly worries that everyone will hate her if they know what she is, especially with the attitude towards changelings when she first visited. And considering that her species of dragon could be mistaken for a draconequus at first glance often doesn't help matters either. She does tend to stick fairly close to Ponyville and does have a good friendship with Zecora. She also liked to visit Golden Oaks, before Terek may it rest in peace, but was terrified of Twilight. Not so much because she thought Twilight would dislike her, Spike being a dragon and all, but because she knew her species was not known to pony kind as a whole and she had seen enough of Twilight's fits of finding something new to know she should probably avoid it. I have quite a bit of the history and my character mostly fleshed out, but I still need to sketch out and colorize my character before I start posting my videos. It isn't just going to be my mlp oc but probaly my main channel characterization for all my videos. And I just realized how long this comment became. O_O Sorry if a rambled too much. XD

My non-pony OC is maned wolf called Orbit. If you've never heard of a maned wolf, search it up, they are like a cross between a fox, wolf and deer and they are pretty cool :)
I have decided on a griffin, but instead of an eagle/lion character it is a baldeagle/cheetah griffin. idk its name or what it looks like, just the species i have decided on. i live in America, and thats where the bald eagle comes from. but i also like cheetahs and thats why its a cheetah not a lion. i was choosing from a cheetah and a wolf.
I just kinda came up with this one off the top of my head, and tbh its most likely been done before, but its a neat idea none the less... Ok so my idea fora non-pony oc is a kind of shadow creature, with the ability to take the shape of any other creature, granted it remains a shadow, and it has very limited ability to interact with its surroundings, depending on how it came to exist, you see the shadow creatures can be created by ponies (granted they must be rather powerful) or by other things (idk yet, again im kinda just making this up as i go) and depending on how powerful the pony (or other thing) was that created it was, will change how powerful the shadow creature is, and of course, over time the creature can become more powerful. They also can't die of old age, but they are rather easy to kill with the right spells. Ok! on to mine personal oc! (that i kinda JUST made up, not gonna be the best, and she wont be representing me) So her name is EchoMoon (idk if this is a name that is already in use) and she is a rather powerful shadow creature, she came from a rather corrupt pony, who made her to help with what ever "evil" things she wanted to do (she was never very good at being evil, yet she was none the less) but echo herself was rather good and did not agree with her master, yet she did not want to betray the person that created her, she felt it was her job to do as told, no matter how she felt. Over time, Echo started to see her masters health decline, ect ect, master dies, she leaves (i dont want this to go on forever lol) so she leaves and sees the magic of the world, something her master never really showed her, she falls in love with the ponies, and wants to be one, so she looks for a way to become one, she finds a spell that can turn her into who she really is, so she uses it, and she does not become a pony, she is still herself, she does not yet know who she really is, she must find that out over time, and maybe then, the spell will work. THE END, good job if you read this wall of text LOL.
Would a hippocampus count as a non-pony OC? It's hard to tell as it is half pony, half fish. She can turn into an earth pony when she comes out of the water though

Warching this again makes me feel so nostalgic. My OC is a reformed changeling, and this genuinely helped me during development. I really wish Tyndaga had talked about the reindeer that appeared in the best gift ever special. Mostly on their designs compared to his, and if there was anything he would change after seeing them.

I have a hippogriff who's themed after a phoenix, a griffon who's a snow leopard + raven hybrid, a draconequues, dragons, changlings, etc.! But man now I'm highkey inspired to look up obscure mythical creatures that we haven't seen in the MLP show to make it into an OC!
Ok so after watching your video I made my wolf OC Sage Lee, my insparation for her came from my love for wolfs, since I was trying to make a tough yet shy character with a sad but natural back story who woudn't be a total emo/evil from hell, a wolf seemed like a great idea! She is a draconequus, and I decided that it would be prefect because I’m constantly defined as “unapologetically myself, and fearlessly being myself” I never did care what others thought about my weird self. I was unique, different and proud so she does share my disorders and mental illness. Since they make me who i am.....So at times she can be found coiled up like a snake, lost to her thoughts and in a melancholy mood from depression. Having a non-pony OC has really allowed me to play around with many different aspects of my character. Especially now that she's a reformed changeling. I wanted something that could be creative, changing, and spontaneously silly to represent myself, so it ended up being perfect in the long run ^-^
My oc is a hibagon, I wanted to be basically a nice big guy trying to live in a small world. He's not as big as discord butt is bigger than celestia. His back story is that he was raised by an earth pony and a unicorn who lived on a farm, and while growing up he had a lot of time to study alchemy, in the sense of making potions, he often times get angry but tries to suppress his tendency to punch the guy who made him angry. He lives in a house in ponyville with pokey pierce as his clumsy but well meaning roommate.
This was great. Got a couple good chuckles out of it. One suggestion though, and keep in mind I don't know how you record for these, but Elicitie was often difficult to understand. At times it seemed as though he was mumbling and I couldn't make out any words. Maybe bring up his track a little more? Or, whatever it is you do with this sort of thing, or even have him enunciate a little more clearly and put more volume to his voice. Project, good sir! Project! Use the diaphragm! That said, I loved it when he went into the spill with that French accent, and your reaction when he explained what his species was and how he came to choosing the color scheme. The interactions between your two characters was enjoyable. Even still, the designs for both your characters are great. The facial expressions are darling. Keep up the awesome work!
mine is just an undead dragon brought back due to a unicorn trying illegal magic. anyways, i find that non-pony oc's can help those who (like me) are still hesitant about proudly excepting the fandom. this helps them ease in a bit, well i think so. love your videos!
I have a dragon oc. instead of the normal bat-like wing most of the dragons have mine has small feathery wings,gems in him forhead and sides,horns that are crystal like that can channel the magical energy around him,and had always had a huge interest in ponies and studdies them for a living his name is Eric.
i never really could think of a OC for mlp. in the past whenever i made on i was unhappy because it didn't scream me. that was until the Kirin's were introduced in the show and now i'm puzzling on how the make a good Kirin OC. this video really helped with that, thx.
I'm currently working on a Chimera OC. In the mlp world the chimera existed as an obsticle for Applebloom but I wanted to change that since the show gave the ponies a map to meet and greet new species of animals, mythical and ordinary. Another factor I wanted to incorporate into the back story was different types of chimeras and how age is perceived in the mlp universe by both species.
I have a what I call a mountain pony she is technically a pony but when in a group of regular ponies she definitely stands out she has 2 sets of wings and very distinctive hoves (like a deer) also shes really fluffy :D
I'm thinking about making my oc into a Kiren (for one soul reason, anger issues), though, the way I draw Kirens in the stick horse style is just a pony with the Kiren horn and back, also how do I change my oc without rebooting the Tooniverse entirely, maybe I could be half changeling because I also like those, and it could explain why I'm normally drawn as an Earth Pony, because there are no other Kiren ocs, lol

I have a Kirin (a.k.a a Quilin) turned Deer ( short story about that) that lives on the edge of the everfree forest and whose front door can accidentally send her around the world of equestria (it causes quiet a bit of confusion all around when it acts up) and I haven't decided on a name for her yet. on a side note Canadian Deer Buddies :)
I have been thinking about making my own non-pony-OC based on the legends of the river-horse (rough translation, its actual name is hard to vocalize in English), a local version of the kelpie that is quite common in the folklore of my country of origin and especially around the area where I was born. This video has convinced me to make it into a reality. Since it is closely tied to water and I live in a country where there are small rivers and streams everywhere, it is a rather good fit for me who loves water. On top of that, I have not seen kelpie-OCs in the MLP-universe so far (feel free to correct me, I am still rather new to the fandom but I have seen plenty of fanart).
I tried your state mythical creature thing, and I found two contenders:Momo the Monster, and the Ozark Howler. I chose the Ozark Howler, a bear-like creature with shaggy grey fur. I made mine one humongous, bigger than the ponies. He's an Ozark Howler named King Cerberus.
I’m also Canadian, but I think a beaver or a Moose would also work as a Canadian animal for your OC. Mine would probably be a Hippogriffe. They are my favorite. Pokémon would also be good for inspiration I think

I have an albino reformed changeling as my sona (representative OC with little story). Most of my reasons for making her the way she is are from a youtube-use standpoint.
"Why a changeling?" So if I want to discuss a different subject other than MLP, I can do so by shapeshifting for the video without it seeming random and unexplained.(For example, a cat when talking about Warrior Cats, a human when talking about art/drawing, etc.)
"Why albino? And why that little thingy behind her ear?" I hated the color scheme of the show's reformed Changelings, so albinism would be a good reason for her to have such a different color pallet. And so she's recognizable in any video, no matter what her form. You see a white red-eyed dragon with a branch on her horn or a white red-eyed warrior cat with a tiny twig behind her ear, you can recognize it as the same character and UA-camr. (Also, story-wise explanation, because albinism is a lack of pigment, she can't shift any pigment around to change colors, whereas black or colorful changelings can. And she just likes the twig to fit her name.)
My second choice of sona would be a Hydra, so each head could give a different opinion on the subject being discussed (Almost like collab-ing with myself ^-^) and third choice may have been a Hymasaid, a wolf-based species from an entirely different fandom.
So... I guess I'm just not a pony, huh? :P

This is very true. Many things have been based off viking culture which include this same concept for an afterlife. For example the klingons in star trek, and the nords in elder scrolls / skyrim. Each has a similar afterlife where if you die honorably in battle you go to the good place where you can eat and dine for all eternity, and if you desert in battle or die of some other cause you are sent to a bad afterlife where you fight an eternal war for the rest of eternity, constantly dying and being put back into it.

Honestly, I thought about getting a non-pony OC, and I even knew what species and everything, but there was one big factor that convinced me to stay with a pony. See, I'm personally rather fascinated by the people in the real world think differently and have different goals that all somehow works to build a society. In particular, I'm love learning about how a person has, or is in the process of, found themselves and deciphered what they want to do with their lives. So naturally, one of the biggest things that fascinates me about MLP is the concept of cutie marks, so I really want that icon that symbolizes all of that for me in my OC. Since, canonically so far, only ponies can get cutie marks, the choice of staying with a pony OC became obvious to me.
However, that does bring another interesting topic. In all technicality, the show hasn't explicitly said that non-ponies can't get cutie marks, only that it hasn't been seen. That's like skirting along the edge of show canon. How far from canon can an OC get and still be considered an MLP OC? Is it even acceptable for an OC to break MLP canon in any way at all?
Sharing Heart, it is possible. It is YOUR OC. YOU can do whatever, like break MLP canon. Like me. I used guns on my character when MLP has a strict restriction on violence, and also, guns do not yet exist in MLP. But look what I did! Breached the boundaries for the MLP canon. I put guns on my OC.
What about you? Do anything you want. Don't restrict yourself to not-so-self-imposed borders, express yourself. Let your imagination run wild!

I personally think that non-pony OC's are an incredible way to show off what kind of person you are. I personally have a non-pony OC who is a griffon. After trying to experiment on what I wanted I finally settled on a Griffin and another point that solidifjed it was the episode "Lost Treasure of Griffonstone." so I wante to go outside the norm. So I think non pony OC's are amazing to really express what kibd of person you are
I settled on the changeling mainly because I could decide on what I should be and since changelings can shape shift I could technical be all of those things I thought of being.

Yea! I share more dragon traits than pony traits though. The reason my OC is a dragon-pony is because I play Legend of Spyro, and I'm a Spyro fan. I didn't want to draw many representations of myself. I love drawing, but you can get tired of it and want to find a reason to make less OCs.

I am a draconequis. Draconequus? Idk how to spell it. But yes I am a strange pony bird dragon deer Phoenix thing. Fantastical creatures are my forte. I absolutely adore fantasy, but I couldn't decide on which amazing creature I wanted to be. So I took all the parts of creatures I loved and made it my character!

Okapi's do sort of look like horses so I think it passes as a pony OC. I'm a dragon-pony, they're underrated.
If you wanna take it strict they aren't. Cake is not bread yet it is a mix between a muffin and bread. You could take it as a grey zone, and I wouldn't argue with that, but strictly spoken "anything that is not a pony" also meaning hybrids. Because hybrids are hybrids not the species they mutated from or got mixed with.

If the front half is pony then is technically a subspecies of pony. or is the front half dragon? Then it is a non pony Oc. I'm going by that Sliverquill's Oc that is consider a non pony Oc ,even though he is a Hippogirff.
Pony/dragon hybrids are *technically* Longmas/Kirins, mythological half-horse, half-dragon creatures that originate from Chinese and Japanese mythologies, respectively. Since Kirins are already canon in the FiM universe and a Longma is a main character in Them’s Fightin’ Herds, a game that was based on FiM (and even has Lauren Faust as its character designer!), you could go for both!

Just one oc? I have a whole species. Allow me to introduce...the Elemental Wolves. These wolves are special wolves that can each control one of the 6 elements listed, Fire, Water, Grass, Rock, Wind, and Lightning. They all live in one big clearing that is protected by a spell much like the one in the canterlot wedding and crystal empire but when hit with enough power, only a small hole will appear. This clearing is called Wolves Nest (mostly cus its similar to a huge nest). This area is more on a island near Equestria called Elemental Valley. Back to the wolves, they are one pack but because theres around 200 wolves, there are 6 different alphas, each controlling one of the six elements. The Fire elements live closer to a big dormant volcano, which only erupts every 1,000 years. The Water elements live near a lake fairly close to the volcano, but far enough to not cause trouble. The Wind and Lightning elements like to be all over the place. The Rock elements live at a rocly patch full of boulders sturdy enough to climb and the Grass elements like to live in a forest near the middle. In the very center there is a clearing where pups train and learn how to control their powers. Each wolf has a unique pattern and color palette and personality also. i know this is long but its worth it :)

For me at first I was indecisive untill I got my very first cosmetic from Team Fortress 2 cosmetic case.
It was called the Flamedeer and it was a mask for pyro, at first I just wanted the mask, but then after a while it helped me create my first official OC, Caboose the Flamedeer. A character that is normal but at the same time is unique, Flamedeer isn't just a name in his case.
I went and subscribed to Elicite's channel just because I like his voice a lot.
My OC is sort of non-pony ... he's a pony/whitetail deer mix. Not totally a pony, but pretty close.

The mlp version of my oc is a dragon from the mountain range between the Crystal Empire and Yakyakistan. It is a hard to find them because...
1: They live in the deep mountain caves, bearing fur and feathered wings intend of scales to better insulate against the cold and eating crystals that are abundant there.
2: Because they have an innate affinity for illusion magic to hide from the yettis. Not like quite like changeling magic because actually altering form is much more difficult than the more common blending into the background.
The story of my oc, Silver Scale, is that she wanted to see the rest of the world, particularly Equestria, so she learned how to take the form of a pony. However, she is not all that good at keeping track of what particular species of pony she is at any given point. She is also very shy and constantly worries that everyone will hate her if they know what she is, especially with the attitude towards changelings when she first visited. And considering that her species of dragon could be mistaken for a draconequus at first glance often doesn't help matters either. She does tend to stick fairly close to Ponyville and does have a good friendship with Zecora. She also liked to visit Golden Oaks, before Terek may it rest in peace, but was terrified of Twilight. Not so much because she thought Twilight would dislike her, Spike being a dragon and all, but because she knew her species was not known to pony kind as a whole and she had seen enough of Twilight's fits of finding something new to know she should probably avoid it. I have quite a bit of the history and my character mostly fleshed out, but I still need to sketch out and colorize my character before I start posting my videos. It isn't just going to be my mlp oc but probaly my main channel characterization for all my videos.

I just kinda came up with this one off the top of my head, and tbh its most likely been done before, but its a neat idea none the less...
Ok so my idea fora non-pony oc is a kind of shadow creature, with the ability to take the shape of any other creature, granted it remains a shadow, and it has very limited ability to interact with its surroundings, depending on how it came to exist, you see the shadow creatures can be created by ponies (granted they must be rather powerful) or by other things (idk yet, again im kinda just making this up as i go) and depending on how powerful the pony (or other thing) was that created it was, will change how powerful the shadow creature is, and of course, over time the creature can become more powerful. They also can't die of old age, but they are rather easy to kill with the right spells.
Ok! on to mine personal oc! (that i kinda JUST made up, not gonna be the best, and she wont be representing me) So her name is EchoMoon (idk if this is a name that is already in use) and she is a rather powerful shadow creature, she came from a rather corrupt pony, who made her to help with what ever "evil" things she wanted to do (she was never very good at being evil, yet she was none the less) but echo herself was rather good and did not agree with her master, yet she did not want to betray the person that created her, she felt it was her job to do as told, no matter how she felt. Over time, Echo started to see her masters health decline, ect ect, master dies, she leaves (i dont want this to go on forever lol) so she leaves and sees the magic of the world, something her master never really showed her, she falls in love with the ponies, and wants to be one, so she looks for a way to become one, she finds a spell that can turn her into who she really is, so she uses it, and she does not become a pony, she is still herself, she does not yet know who she really is, she must find that out over time, and maybe then, the spell will work. THE END, good job if you read this wall of text LOL.

I personally love making non-pony OCs! I have a hippogriff who's themed after a phoenix, a griffon who's a snow leopard + raven hybrid, a draconequues, dragons, changlings, etc.! But man now I'm highkey inspired to look up obscure mythical creatures that we haven't seen in the MLP show to make it into an OC!
Ok so after watching your video I made my wolf OC Sage Lee, my insparation for her came from my love for wolfs, since I was trying to make a tough yet shy character with a sad but natural back story who woudn't be a total emo/evil from hell, a wolf seemed like a great idea! She looked so good at the end so I even drew a mini comic of her!

I actually have a sona/oc Of sorts to represent me in the mlp fandom. Haven’t recently watched the show but I might now that it’s spring break. She is a draconequus, and I decided that it would be prefect because I’m constantly defined as “unapologetically myself, and fearlessly being myself” I never did care what others thought about my weird self. I was unique, different and proud so she does share my disorders and mental illness. Since they make me who i am.....So at times she can be found coiled up like a snake, lost to her thoughts and in a melancholy mood from depression. Or she’s bouncing with excitement from Adhd, or maybe she’s stiming over something she’s super excited about from her autism..She’s no discord that’s for sure, rather quite and reserved and uses her mundane and wacky magic to usually help others or provide herself with comfort

Having a non-pony OC has really allowed me to play around with many different aspects of my character. Especially now that she's a reformed changeling. I wanted something that could be creative, changing, and spontaneously silly to represent myself, so it ended up being perfect in the long run ^-^
My oc is a hibagon, I wanted to be basically a nice big guy trying to live in a small world. He's not as big as discord butt is bigger than celestia. His back story is that he was raised by an earth pony and a unicorn who lived on a farm, and while growing up he had a lot of time to study alchemy, in the sense of making potions, he often times get angry but tries to suppress his tendency to punch the guy who made him angry. He lives in a house in ponyville with pokey pierce as his clumsy but well meaning roommate.
This was great. Got a couple good chuckles out of it. One suggestion though, and keep in mind I don't know how you record for these, but Elicitie was often difficult to understand. At times it seemed as though he was mumbling and I couldn't make out any words. Maybe bring up his track a little more? Or, whatever it is you do with this sort of thing, or even have him enunciate a little more clearly and put more volume to his voice. Project, good sir! Project! Use the diaphragm!
That said, I loved it when he went into the spill with that French accent, and your reaction when he explained what his species was and how he came to choosing the color scheme. The interactions between your two characters was enjoyable.
Even still, the designs for both your characters are great. The facial expressions are darling. Keep up the awesome work!

I have a dragon oc. instead of the normal bat-like wing most of the dragons have mine has small feathery wings,gems in him forhead and sides,horns that are crystal like that can channel the magical energy around him,and had always had a huge interest in ponies and studdies them for a living his name is Eric.
i never really could think of a OC for mlp. in the past whenever i made on i was unhappy because it didn't scream me. that was until the Kirin's were introduced in the show and now i'm puzzling on how the make a good Kirin OC. this video really helped with that, thx.

I'm currently working on a Chimera OC. In the mlp world the chimera existed as an obsticle for Applebloom but I wanted to change that since the show gave the ponies a map to meet and greet new species of animals, mythical and ordinary. Another factor I wanted to incorporate into the back story was different types of chimeras and how age is perceived in the mlp universe by both species.
I have a what I call a mountain pony she is technically a pony but when in a group of regular ponies she definitely stands out she has 2 sets of wings and very distinctive hoves (like a deer) also shes really fluffy :D

I'm thinking about making my oc into a Kiren (for one soul reason, anger issues), though, the way I draw Kirens in the stick horse style is just a pony with the Kiren horn and back, also how do I change my oc without rebooting the Tooniverse entirely, maybe I could be half changeling because I also like those, and it could explain why I'm normally drawn as an Earth Pony, because there are no other Kiren ocs, lol

I have a Kirin (a.k.a a Quilin) turned Deer ( short story about that) that lives on the edge of the everfree forest and whose front door can accidentally send her around the world of equestria (it causes quiet a bit of confusion all around when it acts up) and I haven't decided on a name for her yet. on a side note Canadian Deer Buddies :)
I was inspired by this vid to make a few designs for a few non pony oc's! I have a concept for a thunder bird, and I have a idea for a buffalo oc too!
I have been thinking about making my own non-pony-OC based on the legends of the river-horse (rough translation, its actual name is hard to vocalize in English), a local version of the kelpie that is quite common in the folklore of my country of origin and especially around the area where I was born. This video has convinced me to make it into a reality.
Since it is closely tied to water and I live in a country where there are small rivers and streams everywhere, it is a rather good fit for me who loves water. On top of that, I have not seen kelpie-OCs in the MLP-universe so far (feel free to correct me, I am still rather new to the fandom but I have seen plenty of fanart).

I tried your state mythical creature thing, and I found two contenders:Momo the Monster, and the Ozark Howler. I chose the Ozark Howler, a bear-like creature with shaggy grey fur. I made mine one humongous, bigger than the ponies. He's an Ozark Howler named King Cerberus.

I’m also Canadian, but I think a beaver or a Moose would also work as a Canadian animal for your OC. Mine would probably be a Hippogriffe. They are my favorite. Pokémon would also be good for inspiration I think
Question, Can we have an OC and if we have the right back story or event in their life, could we make our OC's animal species(Like mine for example is a unicorn wolf type thing) have another look? Like my OC species BE another? (I have No Idea As To What Im Saying At This Point) For a (Strange) Example. If Tyandaga's Deer OC was To Be A Wolf, But Still LOOK Similar, Like Traits And Colors.

I'm trying to make a non-pony OC/persona who's a griffon. I've given her the same 'hairstyle' that I draw on my human persona as the feathers but haven't gotten much further than that. This video was somewhat helpful but I'm still kind of lost. Any suggestions?
My oc is wyvern named static scale
He is a storm wing wyvern which means he breathes lightning instead of fire. His color pallete is a co bo of blues
