I agree! It's okay to make up your own stories and your own OCs, but it's a little strange to others unless they hear the whole story and character development on how this pony became an Alicorn.
I don't mind Alicorn oc's as long as they don't have that overbearing "i'm more powerful or i'm better than you" feature. Personally I have made an alicorn oc when i started this fandom without knowing the aftermath on the species. So i gave it some thought on what my alicorn represents and its my dark, overbearing past feeding off my doubts and other things. But i also made Solitaire an oc built around my personality. :| so there's my thoughts on them. x3

Its tiresome coming across them, when your roleplaying or creating a collab story with them. I've had my fair share of coming across these "Likable" Mary Sues and it bugs off the mood so your like, No. Not doing this again. Come back when you have flaws and a Decent Character personality built. xD

I like alicorns, and i dont really care what other people make their ocs. Its to best represent them. My oc is a pegisi-changeling hybrid that is bad at doing magic and, being half pony, can't fully shapesift. Instead, she can only make the parts of her that look like a changeling, like her hooves and wings, look like the rest of her so she looks like a normal pegasi. As for why people dislike alicorn oc's, or Aoc's for short, is probably due to thinking like "hey there's an Aoc. They can do magic, and fly...and they're more powerful than most.....geeze their op." (and most people hate op stuff unless they're the one using it)

That is a really cool character! It kinda reminds me of a Changeling OC that I have that isn't very good at shapeshifting into ponies specifically and as a result keeps throwing in other animal parts that instantly outs him as a changeling. This guy was inspired by the old folktales of fae and other fairytale-creatures that I was told about growing up, in fact the changelings that live in my stories are kind of written to resemble my country's equivalent of fae. Not necessarily evil but not entirely good either.
I agree with Tyandaga. Any OC could be considered OP if it's not well written. My OC struggles with accepting himself because of his mental handicap. He didn't choose to be an alicorn, instead it chose him. The reason why he became an alicorn is so he could inspire others to accept their weaknesses and strive to be better. Note, my OC is based on me. Sharing my traits and weaknesses.
I will make an alicorn oc because alicron fits my actual character well imortal, goddes, indistructable my character is like that to make peace, multiverses, life, and she is made for good if over op characters is made to be good it is concidered to be alright
Precisely. It doesn't mean it's a Mary Sue (Celestia forbid); it's just impossible to choose. My headcanon alicorn OC is like that. She's the Princess of two valuable qualities which I've never heard spoken about in the show: Hope and Wisdom. She doesn't act royal: she usually hesitates to take action or take the lead unless it's a last resort scenario. She's very retiring and normally prefers to stay in the background. She's slightly like Fluttershy in that respect, and she also loves the little woodland creatures, but she usually uses her power to heal and help without making a big deal out of it.

I personally LOVE alicorns, and creating an alicorn oc seemed like a good way to be unique. I soon realized however, that it would not be a good idea for me to create one, so I left any alicorns I made to the sidelines, and came up with a non-pony oc, to sate my need to feel like I had something special.

My MLP Oc is a Unicorn with transparent/see-through wings. This is the representation of my will to be free, to be able to let go of one particular bad and traumatic experience I have. I will make her an Alicorn whenever I have been able to let that experience go, when I have made it something that have made me stronger and not something that is weighing me down.
Thanks for point out how silly the "too many alicorns" argument is. When I created my alicorn, I didnt include everyone else's OC in her background. It's just her and the cannon characters.
I find that the Wings of Fire community have the same problem with animus/fire scales/fire proof/seer/mind reader OCs. Yes, there are five different instances where your dragon could become OP! But in my mind, I just look at it like this. Each person has their own AU for where their characters exist. It doesn't overlap with anyone else's universes unless they roleplay with them. But other than that, each person is their own little bubble.
Liberty Lemont the AU thing is actually very accurate. when you create a oc, you add them to a new world which your brain has created and add your own lore to it that crosses into fanon/au I have a fanon universe for this fandom and a canon universe. and the fanon universe I have is very different from the canon universe. Many of my daydreams when I get the chance to are kept in the fanon universe, and if I think somthing would fit in the canon one I'll add it there because it makes sense. some people have a way of differentiateing this. my way is literally the colour of twilights eyes canon = her regular purple eyes fanon = golden eyes stuffed like literally altering a characters eyes stay in the fanon universe that is never shared out and kept to myself while stuff that'd make sense for the Canon universe is shifted over to said thing and exists in both worlds.

Does she represent everything you dislike about yourself, too? It can't be the healthiest to shove all your likable traits into a character and purposefully leave out the stuff you don't like.
Its not depression if you ever recover. That's not how depression works. You always hate yourself, but you just hate yourself a lot less over time, with support. What you experienced was just prolonged sadness. In fact, many people with depression act happier than people who are experiencing prolonged sadness. But its just an act for us, and it is in part due to not ever really having experiencing happiness and sadness the same way.
Bad alicorn: *I'm 17! I'm a alicorn! I kill people with my highlight skin! I'm the most powerful and most beautiful pony in the world!* Good alicorn ocs: *tells a backstory, not always yelling, they can be powerful but brag about, be powerful but maybe have a few flaws, etc*
@@vibrantgleam I know I'm late I know you didn't ask me and I know this might be an unpopular opinion but I think that's perfectly fine as long as said oc doesn't get so powerful that the universe bends around just to make their powers possible if you write/create an oc for a specific universe I would advise to make that oc believable but then again I would argue that you can make them powerful but if it's for something specific give said powers an explanation in case the oc is for an au(alternative universe) I'd say go to town if the universe you created makes shooting lasers out of your eyes a normal every day thing then it's perfectly fine imo to give your oc such powers then again if you create an oc just for a design or you know you won't use the oc for any other things than to just draw them and fool around imo it isn't important for them to have a backstory or good explanation for their capabilities and so on But this is just my opinion

My friend has an alicorn OC named Whirlwind, it's not an OC created to represent herself, she just thought it was a good idea and I agree. I don't think she's a Mary Sue. Yes, she's supposed to represent the element of wind, but even in roleplays she's never been overpowering or even respected that much due to her sometimes cold personality. Oh, and Whirlwind isn't royalty either. I believe she is a very well thought out OC, not a Sue. And, either way, YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT WITH THE OCS YOU CREATE! If someone doesn't like that, they can shove it in their pantie-hoes and snap it.

@@gamincaimin9954 well there are some videos about it but iirc, chrysalis has a lot of similarities to king sombra in terms of design, and people believe that they were once king and queen of the crystal empire; also their interactions when they briefly met in season 9 seem to suggest that i think in some early concept material she was referred to as an evil pegacorn as well also, some believe that princess celestia showing a lot of remorse while fighting chrysalis in her first appearance (her taking a lot of time before taking action, also when she was fighting her she showed regret upon hearing chissy struggle letting her guard down leading to her defeat) which is pretty similar to her fight against nightmare moon and also the fact Luna seemingly disappeared after having possibly found out about chrysalis' presence just like celestia disappeared upon nightmare moon's return; all of which indicates chrysalis was possibly once close to the two sisters the same way celestia felt about nightmare moon so fans theorize that maybe crysalis is the corrupted form of the crystal queen like nightmare moon is the corrupted form of luna.
I love alicorn OCs. Most people ( like me) only like alicorn OCs when they fit like a puzzle piece into the My Little Pony story. They have to have an origin story that tells how they became an alicorn and why they were chosen to be one.
Welp, it depends on the OC itself. Imo, Alicorn OC's are almost destined to be quite mary-sue-ish. But if it's written well, I don't mind it too much. However, if there is no story-important reason for the OC to be an Alicorn, I always reccomend changing the species.

I don't see why people can't make an alicorn that is just simply a unicorn that can fly. I mean, the royal ones have the most magic, but I don't see why there can be say a subspecies of alicorn that are just unicorns that happen to be able to fly. That's the case with my OC Crowfeather. Tribe of pegasus, he's the medicine pony and thus has magic since the medicine ponies have to have mystical abilities. He's just a unicorn with wings. He's not a god, not a royal. A simple pegasus with a horn to do some magic.

I have an alicorn oc! I’ve had her for many, many years and I have continued to update and add to her story. Alicorn OCs can been awesome as long as there is a reason for their existence. My character has an extensive story, spanning over five arcs. This past arc has been recently developed with a friend to add new characters and flesh out our version of the world (mainly the Crystal Empire). Of course, not every oc needs an extensive backstory! I just think it helps to make the character seem more believable in their world if there is context around their ascension or if they were born as an alicorn.
I have nothing against alicorn ocs, but I have seen several people saying: "I am an alicorn, I am a princess / prince, I am better than you." but if the person who created the alicorn oc does not do that, I don’t see why not.
It's a nice idea, I think, but I don't think a magically weak alicorn is physically possible. Sure, you could be a WEAKER alicorn (like how Cadence is likely inferior to, say, Princess Celestia), but remember, Alicorns are basically a combination of an Earth pony, Pegasus, and a Unicorn. All that power stuffed into one pony makes it basically impossible for the result to be in any way magically weak. Now, physically weak, on the other hand (hoof), is much more likely.
Chrysalis is a changeling. If Chrysalis were an alicorn, then technically you’re saying all of the changelings are alicorns too, since they all have wings and a horn.
My main mlp oc didn't start as an Alicorn. My character StarSong was born an Pegasus princess of one of the cloud kingdoms; though she maybe a princess she doesn't like being treated as Superior to everypony else. In fact she join Princess Luna's Assassins guild; thus becoming secretly a hero to all Equestria. After defeating one of Equestria's greatest foes she earns her unicorn being noticed as a natural born Alicorn. Even though StarSong is seen as another Alicorn Princess of Equestria she still wants/prefers to be seen as equal to anypony else. StarSong goes as far as wearing a cloak with a hood covering her horn to avoid being treated differently because of her being an Alicorn. Unlike most Alicorns StarSong is Unique for her love to protect everypony, and her want to be treated like anypony else (not like she is superior of everypony) Here is StarSong's summarized backstory: StarSong also known as NightStorm is the daughter of NightMareMoon, & King CloudThunder; sister of Dawnfeather, mother of SnowShy, & one of Princess Luna's Assassins. StarSong is Tsavo's mate, & one of the strongest assassins in the guild. She was born a Pegasus, but soon after defeating King Sombra alongside Tsavo; she earned her Unicorn horn, & was recognized as a natural born Alicorn Princess of Equestria. Queen Crystalis a major enemy of StarSong. Queen Crystalis sister of Amber changeling ally of: Tsavo's, StarSong's, & friend as well as companion of the Assassins Guild. StarSong's mother (apart of NightMareMoon that wasn't imprisoned in the Moon) was killed by Queen Crystalis; thus leaving StarSong to live with her Father, & Stepmother in the Cloud Kingdom where she stayed before becoming an Assassin, earning her Cutiemark as she, & Tsavo flew to the Assassin Guild Hall. Not knowing she was gonna be a big savor to The Land of Equestria, & those that live within it.

It's just because it basically has the "I'm royalty" label even if they aren't powerful or amazing. I view OCs that aren't alicorns with traits like "faster than Rainbow Dash/Spitfire" or "more adept in magic than Twilight" far worse.
Okay my OC is an alicorn, I know a lot of people don't usually like them, but I don't care at ALL about the royalty. My only reasons for it is the fact that I've always wanted to fly, which is why I want the wings, and I Love magic, which is for the horn. As a kid I made alicorn OC’S because I wasn’t really “popular” in school if you know what I mean and making a loved, respected and powerful Oc helped me through that time but after seeing the hate on alicorn OC’S I abandoned all and instead made no OC’S at all and now I regret that the hate stopped me and took away something good during that time
My little bro has a unicorn OC, he just has mechanical wings, does that make him a alicorn? I don't think so since they are not real alicorn wings, though he wanted thinks he is a alicorn he is technically a unicorn with robotic wings :/
My OC has titanium-alloy knife-instead-of-feather wings that use tiny rockets underneath to levitate me upwards, enable me to hover and descend at will. Due to the shape of the knives on my OC's wings, they enable me to slash and stab and parry whilst flying or whilst on the ground. Those rockets only engage when I raise my wings. No need to flap em, just extend and the rockets do the rest. Believe it or not, they propel you at extreme speeds of approximately 10 to 357,980 m/ph at will. No autopilot, tho. I also have a LEET horn, but my wings are mechanical. Does that make me an alicorn? My theory is: No. It just compares for my love of military fighter jets. That's why I installed them in the first place; for my OC to resemble a fighter jet. And no, I didn't make my OC for it to be superior above all. As you know, speed compensates for defence in fighter jets. Increased defence does likewise, as it makes the plane larger and heavier and induces drag. So what I am saying is I get to go real FEST, BUT I get dropped pretty easy. Just goes to show that I'm not a selfish asshole!

One of my OCs IS and alicorn, but I've just always been too afraid to say anything about it. My OC isn't super powerful. In fact, most of the time I think of ideas for her, she's an earth pony. The only reason that she's an alicorn, is because she turns into one to fight villains. So, basically she's like a hero with a secret identity, but she isn't SUPER overpowered. I've always really liked super heros and their stories, so I wanted to add a little slice that part of me to my OC

I have made an alicorn over, but she didn’t start out that way. And at the begging of the story she doesn’t really seem all that likable. I tried my hardest not to make her a Mary Sue, she doesn’t actually become an alicorn until the end of the series after twilight. I also tried to not make her seem more important than twilight, because she’s the main character after all.
A few of my friends have alicorn OCs, but the OCs have flaws. The reason why I don't have an Alicorn OC is because I'm rather small in size so I made my OC Malachite to reflect on my size and personality. I did give her her own personality, some traits I don't have like stripes. Malachite is an OC of mine that's not presented in the mlp show any isn't in folklore. She's rather my idea of an animalized zodiac sign that is my Zodiac sign. Edit; I now have an Red and black alicorn OC that’s meant to piss people off {6:10}
I have an October alicorn who is mute because I am a quiet person most of the time. The reason she is an alicorn is because she found a way to share her self with others by unlocking her magic even though she was born a Pegasus she learn to use magic without a horn to speak and communicate so she could live more normal. Never told that story before
How XD you never said that, and alicorns can start as anything you wish. It’s based on oneself so if someone wants to make a Pegasus started Alicorn, Go for it!
My oc is an Alicorn, but his kingdom burnt down, so he’s just stuck as a “prince” and doesn’t want to become king anyways. He just is casual and said he does not want to be treated like royalty and uses his magic for help and protection He’s a gecko/pony mix, the horn and the wings are from the pony DNA and the rest is a gecko, he’s fluffy asf
I can relate to this topic very well. I remember joining the community and how I created my very first Alicorn OC (without really knowing anything about the MlP universe) on Deviantart! I did not expect the harsh treatment in the beginning XD Eventually ppl started to like my story and the ideas behind certain aspects of the appearance of my character. As an example he has a broken horn. Even while the horn was intact my character claimed that both Alicorns and Unicorns overuse magic, which is why he was often seen performing any kind of things without using magic. The broken horn drastically reduced his ability to cast spells. Even if he would use simple spells, like Levitation, the spell COULD become unstable... making casting spells dangerous for him and others around him. Many ppl liked the idea of him not being some kind of God and OP being. One should not judge a book by its cover ;p Instead of throwing hate at Alicorn OCs one should give them a chance to explain things first.
My Alicorn OC was just an earthling Pony who was just born with a Firey heart Cutie Mark, and she struggles from being indifferent from everyone, worrying if she comes off as too overbearing, and when she's stressed, she has a meltdown, and becomes her Alicorn form for a short period before calming down again. I myself, am currently very stressed and quite insecure about myself, so having a character to build off that theme to one day become a powerful element of fire, with control of their emotions, helps me inspire myself to be like my Alicorn/Earth Pony OC
Nowadays any alicorn oc does not have to worry about earning their wings/horn, nor with being a rarity, because, in accordance with cannon G5 lore, skyros exists.
I actually support the Alicorn Ocs because I feel people should create whatever they want! I used to have a Alicorn oc till I changed to Pegasus because I felt Alicorn just isn't right for me even though am from ancient royal decent on my mom's side of the family. I just wish the community felt the same way about people's creativity and respect their choices.
hmmm well it would be technically speaking, since they have the look, that may fool some. heck rainbow dash gets a robo wing anyway. so it shouldnt matter, as long as they work well and are able to pick up ur OC so u can fly around!
Reasons to make Alicorn OCs-----------Reason to hate Alicorn OCs -Feed your ego.=Like you said, "I'm amazing or better than you." -Have very lofty and childish dreams.=Often immersion breaking and looked down upon by more "life experienced" people and adults -Haven't excepted their own flaws.=Often childish and blind -Too focused on a perfect body.=Image isn't everything, it can be insulting if that is all you think about -To express their inner emotions and turmoils.=Often appears as too dramatic, edgy, self-centered, dramatic or chaotic. (usually its with the A typical backstory that is associated with a "bad" or Alicorn OC) -To shoehorn themselves into an area or life of importance or power, even if its just in a fantasy world.=It can be immersion breaking, breaks the head-cannon, ruins your own fantasy versions of the story(ies), and can go against the actual story laid out. I kept it vague or unspecific.
I often find it far more important that characters make sense. That their backstory, personality and motives make sense. I often find Alicorn OC's hard to work with though because they don't really fit in normal pony society without it being really awkward. I also don't like making the alicornhood irrelevant because being an alicorn should have a certain amount of weight to it. If they are just a member of high society then it would make more sense to make them a unicorn. My main OC also has a nearly perfect body in terms of strength but that is because she is a soldier and an extremely dedicated one at that. So it makes sense that one who spends almost all her free time training would have a very impressive physique.

I feel people dislike Alicorn OCs because the person makes it way overpowered, giving other people with Alicorn OCs a bad reputation. I don't generally dislike Alicorn OCs, unless someone does something similar to this.
This is a very insightful analysis, Tyandaga. My OC, Nightstar, is a Unicorn, but even though, originally, you might say my Ponysona (the type of pony/creature I become should I enter Equestria through a portal without the Konami Code) is the exact shape, colours and form of Nightstar. But, actually, I Have seen a LOT of my own insights, wisdoms, even my own actual powers, like a very strong link to our sister dimension, with Creator powers, which I had gradually discovered from as early as childhood, onward. And I have personally astral projected myself and saw myself as my Ponysona; what I would actually become versus my OC. I'd become tall like a princess, since in my human form, I'm 5'11", and my mane colour is more a light cobalt blue, versus Nightstar's teal, and the Big Deal: I would literally become an Alicorn. So, yes, my Ponysona reasoning does match up with what you stated in the video. Our Cutie Marks did match, BUT, during this year's BronyCon, my self-counterpart of Cwcville in our sister dimension, went to Equestria (she became Unicorn with teal mane like Nightstar), but she decided to play with lightning, and she singed her mark, which simultaneously at that instant, I FELT the burn of that Zap on my own flanks, and now between myself and Christine, we each have a lightning bolt in the heart portions of our Cutie Marks. Definitely sets us apart from Nightstar with no lightning in her mark at all. Shame this happened AFTER I had completed Nightstar's book; I drew myself alongside her in my Alicorn form; no lightning in my mark yet. But I digress. If I ever end up making an alicorn oc to represent me personally, it's not that I think of myself highly. In fact, I think of my self quite lowly, and I just want to think of myself as a better and more respectable person than I am...
Personally, I like alicorn OC's for a few reasons. One being that they're fun and good practice for drawing the tall slim body shape of the alicorns. After awhile it can get boring to draw the same 5 things over and over. Heck thats why OC's exist, so people can be creative and make something new. Personally I draw them because they're pretty, and you can do a lot with them. So stop hating the popular kid for being popular dumbos and let us do what we want. Heck you should be happy that these people can draw, or write these characters to life in the first place!
I've always thought if there was any male alicorns that I'd want on the show, it would be a son of Sombra. A Prince of Shadows. Hear me out, Sombra had some pretty messed up magic unlike other unicorns, even his horn (which was curved and smoothed) is unlike others. If anyone could make a male alicorn, it would be him. Secondly, with the fact that it is now definitely possible to have an Alicorn be born from an Alicorn and other pony, Flurry Heart being the main example, it could be possible that he had a child this way. The only problem with this is that there would have to be another Alicorn involved. A different way he could he could be an alicorn, though, is how Twilight got her wings; the son could earn them. Not in the exact way, but maybe more like how Celestia and Luna most likely got their wings; they came with their cutie marks. So maybe if Sombra had a son, he was raised to embrace the darkness and use ponies as slaves, but decided it was the wrong way to live, and tried to go against his own father. Personally, I like to think that he would get his cutie mark and wings during the battle, which would distract him and make him fail, leaving Sombra without a heir and furious that his own son was a alicorn and had a cutie mark (it isn't exactly canon but Sombra is shown without a cutie mark) but not himself. Celestia and Luna would later come to defeat him then, blah blah. I also see him a bit misunderstood, slightly like Discord and Luna (Nightmare Moon). He looks frightening but wants to make friends (though he doesn't know he because he is actually very socially awkward and hopeless at it) and he isn't used to friendly ponies. He is feared due to his heredity but is clumsy and not at all like his father. I like to imagine him getting worked up over simple things like some kid stealing another girl's doll because it isn't nice and he can't figure out why thy would do that, and is very against bullying. Maybe I'm crazy and think about this too much, lol. Just some stray shower thoughts.

This is a pet peeve of mine in the fandom. I don’t care about the character you make if it’s what you want to make and it makes you happy. People just hate them because it’s not what they want in a character and they think that gives em the right to tell people to change the character they like just because they don’t like something about them. It doesn’t matter what you like or don’t like any oc is the artist’s character and there not even cannon to the show so why should it matter anyway. The whole point of this community is to be able to express yourself freely and things you love about the show and characters not spread hate and bring others down just for a character they like to make.
The only alicorn OC i have is a past king of ancient equestra who went to war with ankther kingdom and got damned to the void by the universe for killing another unicorn (thats why even nightmare moon wanted to banish celestia instead of killing her. Because its a universal sin for an alicorn to kill another)
My oc is an alicorn and she's not royalty or has unlimited power. She was born an alicorn and has a lot of power but she does have weaknesses and is not god-like. she wants to be respected yes, but wants people to treat her for who she is, not what she is. she's just a simple alicorn living a somewhat "normal" life. the reason I made myself an alicorn is because I feel different from a lot of people growing up and making myself an alicorn makes me feel different but unique at the same time. personally. I don't hate alicorn ocs. I don't judge them because of what they are. I hate how people are like,"oh look an alicorn oc! kill it with fire!" people should treat alicorns for WHO they are, not WHAT.

You can't just have unicorns and they suddenly get a alicorn that's genetically unreal speaking science wise even for a Magical Pony universe. You can't just have some mixed blood like Pegasi and Unicorn and their blood mix and get a alicorn. Genes don't work that way. So I want to advise you to probably add some sort of random alicorn in her blood line. Because her family having no blood of alicorn that's just physically *impossible.* That's like saying a all white family has a black child. Might want to fix up her family heritage.
Ever since I saw the episode where Twilight became an alicorn there is a story I would be interested in with an alicorn OC. Becoming an alicorn has to be earned with some great deed but someone like Twilight didn't know that all her training was leading her to become an alicorn princess with responsibilities and her world was completely changed. I think it would be interesting if an alicorn was upset about becoming an alicorn just because of their kindness and now their life will never be the same. They will live forever while their loved ones continue to grow old and they watch them slowly die, they're afraid to get close to someone because that friend would grow old and eventually die while they wouldn't age, they have new responsibilities and pressure that came with the royal title they never asked for, and the happiness of others has to be put first while their aren't able to be happy because of how they have to think of others and not think about their own needs. I'm not saying I'd write this but I would find it to be an interesting story to read IF it was done well and it would be a unique take on the alicorn OC. Or maybe it wouldn't... I must admit I haven't read any My Little Pony fanfiction.
I like alicorn ocs because we Temmies are also rare (ish), but if you want to make a pc you want to release your creativity, so if someone wants to be a alicorn it will be okay with me because you want to have creative thoughts with your oc..
My "personal OC", as it were, is a cat. :P That said, I do have several Alicorn OC stories in my head that I haven't written down--much less published--because of the huge community pushback. I think, though, that if someone writes a story with an Alicorn OC, it can still be a good story so long as the Alicorn has a *reason for existing*. Especially if they weren't the main character, that would significantly lessen the crowd of naysayers. For example, you have Alicorns of the sun and moon, so why isn't there, say, an Alicorn of the Earth? What about the ruler of another planet, or a separate kingdom of equines?
why not instead of telling people they have to follow a specific set of rules to make a "good" alicorn oc, you should just let people have fun making ocs, the majority of people making alicorn ocs are KIDS, why do you think it's okay to shame kids for just having fun?
And when everyone is special, noone will be.... I fall in the first complaint area. When you make a OC for a certain fanbom you are in essential adding something to that fandom be it cannon or not. There were only 2 alicorn because they were special, if you just keep adding more it will lose all meaning. A second complain, that i have, is not mentioned in the vid. All alicorn we have seen have great power more so then other ponies. Its would be the MLP way of making everyone a super saiyen.

I think that Alicorn Oc's just think they are special. An Oc is a pony version of you. If youre a Pegasus u might think or just might be fast, a wonderbolt,love adventures,or something to do with a Pegasus, if ur a unicorn, u might be smart, good at tricks, or anything that a unicorn can do. And if you're an earth pony u might be hard working, strong, or anything like that. But if you're all of them then you are talented, but it doesn't mean u are a royal, powerful, the best pony in equestria, related to any cannon pony Alicorn . If youre all of them just simply choose one. Like a unicorn. Maybe you're a unicorn that s fast. Or a Pegasus, maybe you're good at tricks and love adventures. Or an earth pony, you are fast, smart and a good trixter pony. And being an Alicorn means nothing of that. An Alicorn just means your "special" and "everyone loves you because you have wings and a horn" but face it, if u were a type of pony in the human world(an Alicorn pony), u would be stuck up thinking everyone loves you and that s you're royal bc you have more than 1 talent. Well I do respect your opinion as it’s your own and I’m not gonna change that. The ONLY reason my oc that represents me is an alicorn is because of how I have severe problems I want to get throw and I made her the aftermath of me sorting out my problems and making me a better person. I’m in no way self centered or believe I’m special, not at all it’s just how I want to be after my huge struggles. She is the incarnation of how I want be, less sensitive, not to tempered but still has flaws as flaws are something everyone has and I will continue to have. But anyway it’s your opinion and I respect that and you for it nonetheless.

Me personally, my OC is a unicorn with a time related cutie mark (her special ability is to see into the past and future), but I also gave her a few other abilities. She could fly with just magic (which Twilight's mom did, so I'm convinced you don't have to be an uber powerful unicorn to do that) and teleport short distances. I figured since I study a lot irl I'd also make my OC an avid reader, which would allow her to pick up on more advanced spells than the average unicorn, similar to how Twilight and Starlight grew so powerful. My OC was still called a Mary Sue just because she knew advanced magic, and since then I've realized that "Mary Sue" is flung around like candy, and it really lost its meaning. Tbh I stopped caring about alicorn OCs. Almost all of them have terrible/cliche backstories imo, but at the same time, they're also made my kids just having fun, and I don't think it's right to trample on what makes someone happy, especially if they aren't pretentious about it.

I have an OC that is half pony half changling. The story takes place before the changlings are reformed though. So, a Pony (Pink Frost) falls in love with a changling (Bee Hive). The first time they kiss Bee Hive turns into a reformed changling. Eventually, they get married and have a daughter named Pollen Flower (her design is her coat is orangey - yellow her mane is light magenta, the base of her tail is slightly translucent, she has belly plates, and a gem on Her chest, her wings are also translucent) as a filly she was treated very bad and nopony loled her

When doing an mlp transformation of my other two Fursonas, I made them alicorns. I remembered that a pony had to earn their horn or wings by accomplishing something great, so these two basically saved the world. I would share the entire story and lore on my Fursonas, but that would take a looooong time
I have a feeling the reason people hate them is due to the idea. That Alicorn a need some type of status. They need to hold a power, something that makes them so different. That they are a Alicorn. Personally I love Alicorn OCs, specially when their NextGen. Like Twilight and Sunset's Alicorn daughter OC for example. With good writing a Alicorn OC becomes great. Take mine for example, Rosey Rockett, as her name was in the beginning was a random. Normal looking Alicorn. She had no true stand out features. Yet she was a master flyer, and amazing with magic. She was so powerful yet no one knew about her? That made no sense. After years with the OC, she now is a believable character. The second daughter of Princess Cadence following her older sister Skyla, and older then her baby sister Flurry. Yet now, she dyes her mane to express herself. She's bullied by her sister to the point where. Some magic and stress, break her horn. Stunting it's growth, so now she can't really use magic. It's painful to try and using it, spells go bad quickly. Something as simple as picking up a cup will normally go wrong, causing the cup to shatter or go flying across the room. She's depressed and insecure over all her sister's tormenting. Rosey has many pros and cons. I even changed her name to Rosaline Rozeto Rocano Or Rosey Rockett, being named after a childhood friend Shining armor had. Rosey is a character that wants to help others. Yet she's scared to ever tell anyone she's hurt. She doesn't believe anyone cares. See Alicorn OCs can be good as long you know what your doing.

Many people people know they have to add some flaws to the characters so the add a disability or depression (which I something I hate seeing in oc's). She broke her horn in a childhood accident and even though it has healed she isn't that good at using it from the lack of practice. So she mainly uses her wings. So I can barely work it now, so I made her horn like that. Then I decided since everything I had gone through had given me anxiety, trust issues, paranoia, depression, that Rosey should have these things too. It only made since to me, but I loved it because somehow I stay positive and happy. I found Potential in myself. I wanted her to reflect that and my bad parts. I can be negative towards myself, so she can. I dye my hair, so rosey does. Yet I can believe anyone liking me, I can't trust anyone. So she doesn't either.

your right I created an alicorn OS. im proud of it, im not trying to prove im better than anyone else. I want to show what im capable of that my cutie mark shows what I am. Stinger M's Productions shows it has multiple talent and that it one style art doesn't mean all you can do. That's what my OS character means to mean to me. I don't focus on one subject of art, it shows everything, it gives advice. If one style doesn't seem to work out their is always another way. My OS character maybe an alicorn and people might get mad about it, thats thier problem they have there OS character to represent them and I have mine, StingerM of Stinger M's Productions an alicorn of art.
The only reason people hate alicorn OCs is that most of them are created by people who A. Want to create themselves as an all-powerful being, B. Have very bad character writing skills, or C. Are children who are very new to the idea of character traits and development. All of these things amount to a Mary Sue/ Gary Sue character, or at the very least a very badly written one. I think that because a majority of alicorn OCs are like this, it has become a label in the fandom for 'Perfect, badly written and loved by everyone'. This isn't necessarily the case. Most people who have ideas for alicorn OCs have been scared by that label into settling for a pegasus, unicorn, or earth pony, but some traits and character ideas can be symbolized in having an alicorn OC. I don't know. From what I can see when an Alicorn is believable people don't have a problem with it. I also have a friend who has an alicorn OC and he is great with him. He comes from a fairytale and therefore has quite weird ideas. He also resents his origin so he is extremely rational and not very good with faith or deep emotions.
When I make alicorn ocs, they are in the future. Like how celestia made twilight an alicorn. And twilight I’m guessing will make luster dawn one. So far in the future, there will be a princess of knowledge along with princess of emotion. They will be like day and night, logic and emotion, . Yes, although in my honest opinion its most likely that discord is either the last of the draconequus race, or perhaps the only one which would make sense as he is the spirit of chaos and disharmony, which is quite a unique title that is clearly defined by his magical abilities and personality. Although, given what little knowledge we have of discords magic or where it comes from it is also possible that other Draconequus do exist, and that the magic of discord simply doesn't exist in or is extremely weakened in other draconequus and perhaps that discord himself isn't actually a draconequus, but instead he simply prefers to take that form. However, As discord can take any form he desires and seemingly has almost no limits to his magic, if you are to roleplay as a draconequus i suggest limiting magic abilities, as to share the abilities of discord would be to essentially roleplay a god. It is quite obvious that the only reason discord has ever lost a battle is due to his cockiness and inability to predict the outcomes of his actions as well as the outcomes of the actions of others.
I was once in the fandom, and this kept popping into my video watch list. Might as well get this out of the way. Be prepared, for one of my WORST newbie stories. EVER. I first started with a pegasus, basically a recolor of Fluttershy. It had the MS Paint colors, and just looked stupid. I was new to the internet, so I never knew of Sai or Medibang, and was desperate to find people to relate to. Seeing all of these OCs made me wonder "Should I do that?" and learned 3 basic types of ponies. Earth, pegasus, and unicorn. I couldn't choose between pegasus and unicorn, so I went a bit deeper. I discovered alicorns from.. I can't remember, a video on one of the episodes..? I instantly thought "ALICORN. NOW." and took a terrible base online. I drew it based off of myself, and no real meaning to it besides "OH LOOK IT'S ME!" No backstory, no nothing. Oh dear god, what did I create? Burn it with fire FOR CHRISTS SAKE! Now that I know what the FUCK a OC is, I could easily draw one with the help of Medibang and Sai. It's been years since I drew a MLP OC, but I'm sure I could do it much better than that horrible shit. -Maybe a unicorn in a cat sweater, with highlights.. AWW SO CUTE!- But I'm not going to. Why? Because I don't really like the MLP fandom anymore. It's kinda too childish for me, besides I want to slowly stop drawing until I get a drawing tablet. I've been dying for one, but their all too expensive! AGH!! Ok, I'm done. Goodbye. Have a cookie since I wasted your time. シ
Alicorn OCS aren’t bad, you just have to create them the right way. A lot of the community will hear you’re making an alicorn OC and immediately think that you’re making a mary sue. Not you though.

I don't mind Alicorn oc's as long as they don't have that overbearing "i'm more powerful or i'm better than you" feature. Personally I have made an alicorn oc when i started this fandom without knowing the aftermath on the species. So i gave it some thought on what my alicorn represents and its my dark, overbearing past feeding off my doubts and other things. But i also made Solitaire an oc built around my personality. :| so there's my thoughts on them. x3

I like alicorns, and i dont really care what other people make their ocs. Its to best represent them. My oc is a pegisi-changeling hybrid that is bad at doing magic and, being half pony, can't fully shapesift. Instead, she can only make the parts of her that look like a changeling, like her hooves and wings, look like the rest of her so she looks like a normal pegasi. As for why people dislike alicorn oc's, or Aoc's for short, is probably due to thinking like "hey there's an Aoc. They can do magic, and fly...and they're more powerful than most.....geeze their op." (and most people hate op stuff unless they're the one using it)

It kinda reminds me of a Changeling OC that I have that isn't very good at shapeshifting into ponies specifically and as a result keeps throwing in other animal parts that instantly outs him as a changeling. This guy was inspired by the old folktales of fae and other fairytale-creatures that I was told about growing up, in fact the changelings that live in my stories are kind of written to resemble my country's equivalent of fae. Not necessarily evil but not entirely good either.
I agree with Tyandaga. Any OC could be considered OP if it's not well written. My OC struggles with accepting himself because of his mental handicap. He didn't choose to be an alicorn, instead it chose him. The reason why he became an alicorn is so he could inspire others to accept their weaknesses and strive to be better. Note, my OC is based on me. Sharing my traits and weaknesses.

Precisely. It doesn't mean it's a Mary Sue (Celestia forbid); it's just impossible to choose. My headcanon alicorn OC is like that. She's the Princess of two valuable qualities which I've never heard spoken about in the show: Hope and Wisdom. She doesn't act royal: she usually hesitates to take action or take the lead unless it's a last resort scenario. She's very retiring and normally prefers to stay in the background. She's slightly like Fluttershy in that respect, and she also loves the little woodland creatures, but she usually uses her power to heal and help without making a big deal out of it.

I personally LOVE alicorns, and creating an alicorn oc seemed like a good way to be unique. I soon realized however, that it would not be a good idea for me to create one, so I left any alicorns I made to the sidelines, and came up with a non-pony oc, to sate my need to feel like I had something special.
I'm an alicorn (the first guy alicorn) I don't think I'm better than anyone and I don't consider myself royalty. (I mostly chose this because I couldn't decide)

Thanks for point out how silly the "too many alicorns" argument is. When I created my alicorn, I didnt include everyone else's OC in her background. It's just her and the cannon characters.
I find that the Wings of Fire community have the same problem with animus/fire scales/fire proof/seer/mind reader OCs.

But in my mind, I just look at it like this. Each person has their own AU for where their characters exist. It doesn't overlap with anyone else's universes unless they roleplay with them. But other than that, each person is their own little bubble.

when you create a oc, you add them to a new world which your brain has created and add your own lore to it that crosses into fanon/au
I have a fanon universe for this fandom and a canon universe. and the fanon universe I have is very different from the canon universe. Many of my daydreams when I get the chance to are kept in the fanon universe, and if I think somthing would fit in the canon one I'll add it there because it makes sense.

stuffed like literally altering a characters eyes stay in the fanon universe that is never shared out and kept to myself while stuff that'd make sense for the Canon universe is shifted over to said thing and exists in both worlds.

What you experienced was just prolonged sadness. In fact, many people with depression act happier than people who are experiencing prolonged sadness. But its just an act for us, and it is in part due to not ever really having experiencing happiness and sadness the same way.

@@vibrantgleam I know I'm late I know you didn't ask me and I know this might be an unpopular opinion but I think that's perfectly fine as long as said oc doesn't get so powerful that the universe bends around just to make their powers possible if you write/create an oc for a specific universe I would advise to make that oc believable but then again I would argue that you can make them powerful but if it's for something specific give said powers an explanation in case the oc is for an au(alternative universe) I'd say go to town if the universe you created makes shooting lasers out of your eyes a normal every day thing then it's perfectly fine imo to give your oc such powers then again if you create an oc just for a design or you know you won't use the oc for any other things than to just draw them and fool around imo it isn't important for them to have a backstory or good explanation for their capabilities and so on

My friend has an alicorn OC named Whirlwind, it's not an OC created to represent herself, she just thought it was a good idea and I agree. I don't think she's a Mary Sue. Yes, she's supposed to represent the element of wind, but even in roleplays she's never been overpowering or even respected that much due to her sometimes cold personality. Oh, and Whirlwind isn't royalty either. I believe she is a very well thought out OC, not a Sue.
And, either way, YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT WITH THE OCS YOU CREATE! If someone doesn't like that, they can shove it in their pantie-hoes and snap it.

i think in some early concept material she was referred to as an evil pegacorn as well
also, some believe that princess celestia showing a lot of remorse while fighting chrysalis in her first appearance (her taking a lot of time before taking action, also when she was fighting her she showed regret upon hearing chissy struggle letting her guard down leading to her defeat) which is pretty similar to her fight against nightmare moon and also the fact Luna seemingly disappeared after having possibly found out about chrysalis' presence just like celestia disappeared upon nightmare moon's return; all of which indicates chrysalis was possibly once close to the two sisters the same way celestia felt about nightmare moon
so fans theorize that maybe crysalis is the corrupted form of the crystal queen like nightmare moon is the corrupted form of luna.
I love alicorn OCs. Most people ( like me) only like alicorn OCs when they fit like a puzzle piece into the My Little Pony story. They have to have an origin story that tells how they became an alicorn and why they were chosen to be one.

Welp, it depends on the OC itself. Imo, Alicorn OC's are almost destined to be quite mary-sue-ish. But if it's written well, I don't mind it too much. However, if there is no story-important reason for the OC to be an Alicorn, I always reccomend changing the species.

I don't see why people can't make an alicorn that is just simply a unicorn that can fly. I mean, the royal ones have the most magic, but I don't see why there can be say a subspecies of alicorn that are just unicorns that happen to be able to fly. That's the case with my OC Crowfeather. Tribe of pegasus, he's the medicine pony and thus has magic since the medicine ponies have to have mystical abilities. He's just a unicorn with wings. He's not a god, not a royal. A simple pegasus with a horn to do some magic.

I have an alicorn oc! I’ve had her for many, many years and I have continued to update and add to her story. Alicorn OCs can been awesome as long as there is a reason for their existence. My character has an extensive story, spanning over five arcs. This past arc has been recently developed with a friend to add new characters and flesh out our version of the world (mainly the Crystal Empire). Of course, not every oc needs an extensive backstory! I just think it helps to make the character seem more believable in their world if there is context around their ascension or if they were born as an alicorn.

It's a nice idea, I think, but I don't think a magically weak alicorn is physically possible. Sure, you could be a WEAKER alicorn (like how Cadence is likely inferior to, say, Princess Celestia), but remember, Alicorns are basically a combination of an Earth pony, Pegasus, and a Unicorn. All that power stuffed into one pony makes it basically impossible for the result to be in any way magically weak. Now, physically weak, on the other hand (hoof), is much more likely.

My main mlp oc didn't start as an Alicorn. My character StarSong was born an Pegasus princess of one of the cloud kingdoms; though she maybe a princess she doesn't like being treated as Superior to everypony else. In fact she join Princess Luna's Assassins guild; thus becoming secretly a hero to all Equestria. After defeating one of Equestria's greatest foes she earns her unicorn being noticed as a natural born Alicorn. Even though StarSong is seen as another Alicorn Princess of Equestria she still wants/prefers to be seen as equal to anypony else. StarSong goes as far as wearing a cloak with a hood covering her horn to avoid being treated differently because of her being an Alicorn. Unlike most Alicorns StarSong is Unique for her love to protect everypony, and her want to be treated like anypony else (not like she is superior of everypony)
Here is StarSong's summarized backstory:
StarSong also known as NightStorm is the daughter of NightMareMoon, & King CloudThunder; sister of Dawnfeather, mother of SnowShy, & one of Princess Luna's Assassins. StarSong is Tsavo's mate, & one of the strongest assassins in the guild. She was born a Pegasus, but soon after defeating King Sombra alongside Tsavo; she earned her Unicorn horn, & was recognized as a natural born Alicorn Princess of Equestria. Queen Crystalis a major enemy of StarSong. Queen Crystalis sister of Amber changeling ally of: Tsavo's, StarSong's, & friend as well as companion of the Assassins Guild. It's just because it basically has the "I'm royalty" label even if they aren't powerful or amazing. I view OCs that aren't alicorns with traits like "faster than Rainbow Dash/Spitfire" or "more adept in magic than Twilight" far worse.

As a kid I made alicorn OC’S because I wasn’t really “popular” in school if you know what I mean and making a loved, respected and powerful Oc helped me through that time but after seeing the hate on alicorn OC’S I abandoned all and instead made no OC’S at all and now I regret that the hate stopped me and took away something good during that time
My little bro has a unicorn OC, he just has mechanical wings, does that make him a alicorn? I don't think so since they are not real alicorn wings, though he wanted thinks he is a alicorn he is technically a unicorn with robotic wings :/

My OC has titanium-alloy knife-instead-of-feather wings that use tiny rockets underneath to levitate me upwards, enable me to hover and descend at will. Due to the shape of the knives on my OC's wings, they enable me to slash and stab and parry whilst flying or whilst on the ground. Those rockets only engage when I raise my wings.
No need to flap em, just extend and the rockets do the rest. Believe it or not, they propel you at extreme speeds of approximately 10 to 357,980 m/ph at will. No autopilot, tho. I also have a LEET horn, but my wings are mechanical. Does that make me an alicorn? My theory is:
No. It just compares for my love of military fighter jets. That's why I installed them in the first place; for my OC to resemble a fighter jet. And no, I didn't make my OC for it to be superior above all. As you know, speed compensates for defence in fighter jets. Increased defence does likewise, as it makes the plane larger and heavier and induces drag. So what I am saying is I get to go real FEST, BUT I get dropped pretty easy. Just goes to show that I'm not a selfish asshole!

One of my OCs IS and alicorn, but I've just always been too afraid to say anything about it. My OC isn't super powerful. In fact, most of the time I think of ideas for her, she's an earth pony. The only reason that she's an alicorn, is because she turns into one to fight villains. So, basically she's like a hero with a secret identity, but she isn't SUPER overpowered. I've always really liked super heros and their stories, so I wanted to add a little slice that part of me to my OC

I have made an alicorn over, but she didn’t start out that way. And at the begging of the story she doesn’t really seem all that likable. I tried my hardest not to make her a Mary Sue, she doesn’t actually become an alicorn until the end of the series after twilight. I also tried to not make her seem more important than twilight, because she’s the main character after all.
A few of my friends have alicorn OCs, but the OCs have flaws. The reason why I don't have an Alicorn OC is because I'm rather small in size so I made my OC Malachite to reflect on my size and personality. I did give her her own personality, some traits I don't have like stripes. Malachite is an OC of mine that's not presented in the mlp show any isn't in folklore. She's rather my idea of an animalized zodiac sign that is my Zodiac sign.

I have an October alicorn who is mute because I am a quiet person most of the time. The reason she is an alicorn is because she found a way to share her self with others by unlocking her magic even though she was born a Pegasus she learn to use magic without a horn to speak and communicate so she could live more normal. I can relate to this topic very well. I remember joining the community and how I created my very first Alicorn OC (without really knowing anything about the MlP universe) on Deviantart! I did not expect the harsh treatment in the beginning XD
Eventually ppl started to like my story and the ideas behind certain aspects of the appearance of my character. As an example he has a broken horn. Even while the horn was intact my character claimed that both Alicorns and Unicorns overuse magic, which is why he was often seen performing any kind of things without using magic.
The broken horn drastically reduced his ability to cast spells. Even if he would use simple spells, like Levitation, the spell COULD become unstable... making casting spells dangerous for him and others around him. Many ppl liked the idea of him not being some kind of God and OP being.
One should not judge a book by its cover ;p Instead of throwing hate at Alicorn OCs one should give them a chance to explain things first.

My Alicorn OC was just an earthling Pony who was just born with a Firey heart Cutie Mark, and she struggles from being indifferent from everyone, worrying if she comes off as too overbearing, and when she's stressed, she has a meltdown, and becomes her Alicorn form for a short period before calming down again. I myself, am currently very stressed and quite insecure about myself, so having a character to build off that theme to one day become a powerful element of fire, with control of their emotions, helps me inspire myself to be like my Alicorn/Earth Pony OC
Nowadays any alicorn oc does not have to worry about earning their wings/horn, nor with being a rarity, because, in accordance with cannon G5 lore, skyros exists.
I actually support the Alicorn Ocs because I feel people should create whatever they want! I used to have a Alicorn oc till I changed to Pegasus because I felt Alicorn just isn't right for me even though am from ancient royal decent on my mom's side of the family. I just wish the community felt the same way about people's creativity and respect their choices.
You can make it to where the horn is a burden and you no longer wish to use it, thus, making you a Pegasus by your actions.

-To shoehorn themselves into an area or life of importance or power, even if its just in a fantasy world.=It can be immersion breaking, breaks the head-cannon, ruins your own fantasy versions of the story(ies), and can go against the actual story laid out.

I often find it far more important that characters make sense. That their backstory, personality and motives make sense.
I often find Alicorn OC's hard to work with though because they don't really fit in normal pony society without it being really awkward. I also don't like making the alicornhood irrelevant because being an alicorn should have a certain amount of weight to it. If they are just a member of high society then it would make more sense to make them a unicorn.
My main OC also has a nearly perfect body in terms of strength but that is because she is a soldier and an extremely dedicated one at that. So it makes sense that one who spends almost all her free time training would have a very impressive physique.
Not Mary Sue: Twilight going through years of training to become an alicorn.
Mary Sue: Twilight zapping away Nightmare Moon all by herself as an alicorn on the first episode.

I feel people dislike Alicorn OCs because the person makes it way overpowered, giving other people with Alicorn OCs a bad reputation. I don't generally dislike Alicorn OCs, unless someone does something similar to this.
This is a very insightful analysis, Tyandaga. My OC, Nightstar, is a Unicorn, but even though, originally, you might say my Ponysona (the type of pony/creature I become should I enter Equestria through a portal without the Konami Code) is the exact shape, colours and form of Nightstar. But, actually, I Have seen a LOT of my own insights, wisdoms, even my own actual powers, like a very strong link to our sister dimension, with Creator powers, which I had gradually discovered from as early as childhood, onward. And I have personally astral projected myself and saw myself as my Ponysona; what I would actually become versus my OC. I'd become tall like a princess, since in my human form, I'm 5'11", and my mane colour is more a light cobalt blue, versus Nightstar's teal, and the Big Deal: I would literally become an Alicorn. So, yes, my Ponysona reasoning does match up with what you stated in the video. Our Cutie Marks did match, BUT, during this year's BronyCon, my self-counterpart of Cwcville in our sister dimension, went to Equestria (she became Unicorn with teal mane like Nightstar), but she decided to play with lightning, and she singed her mark, which simultaneously at that instant, I FELT the burn of that Zap on my own flanks, and now between myself and Christine, we each have a lightning bolt in the heart portions of our Cutie Marks. Definitely sets us apart from Nightstar with no lightning in her mark at all. Shame this happened AFTER I had completed Nightstar's book; I drew myself alongside her in my Alicorn form; no lightning in my mark yet. But I digress. If I ever end up making an alicorn oc to represent me personally, it's not that I think of myself highly. In fact, I think of my self quite lowly, and I just want to think of myself as a better and more respectable person than I am...
Personally, I like alicorn OC's for a few reasons. One being that they're fun and good practice for drawing the tall slim body shape of the alicorns. After awhile it can get boring to draw the same 5 things over and over. Heck thats why OC's exist, so people can be creative and make something new. Personally I draw them because they're pretty, and you can do a lot with them. So stop hating the popular kid for being popular dumbos and let us do what we want. Heck you should be happy that these people can draw, or write these characters to life in the first place!

I've always thought if there was any male alicorns that I'd want on the show, it would be a son of Sombra. A Prince of Shadows. Hear me out, Sombra had some pretty messed up magic unlike other unicorns, even his horn (which was curved and smoothed) is unlike others. If anyone could make a male alicorn, it would be him. Secondly, with the fact that it is now definitely possible to have an Alicorn be born from an Alicorn and other pony, Flurry Heart being the main example, it could be possible that he had a child this way. The only problem with this is that there would have to be another Alicorn involved. A different way he could he could be an alicorn, though, is how Twilight got her wings; the son could earn them. Not in the exact way, but maybe more like how Celestia and Luna most likely got their wings; they came with their cutie marks. So maybe if Sombra had a son, he was raised to embrace the darkness and use ponies as slaves, but decided it was the wrong way to live, and tried to go against his own father. Personally, I like to think that he would get his cutie mark and wings during the battle, which would distract him and make him fail, leaving Sombra without a heir and furious that his own son was a alicorn and had a cutie mark (it isn't exactly canon but Sombra is shown without a cutie mark) but not himself. Celestia and Luna would later come to defeat him then, blah blah. I also see him a bit misunderstood, slightly like Discord and Luna (Nightmare Moon). He looks frightening but wants to make friends (though he doesn't know he because he is actually very socially awkward and hopeless at it) and he isn't used to friendly ponies. He is feared due to his heredity but is clumsy and not at all like his father. I like to imagine him getting worked up over simple things like some kid stealing another girl's doll because it isn't nice and he can't figure out why thy would do that, and is very against bullying. Maybe I'm crazy and think about this too much, lol. Just some stray shower thoughts.

This is a pet peeve of mine in the fandom. I don’t care about the character you make if it’s what you want to make and it makes you happy. People just hate them because it’s not what they want in a character and they think that gives em the right to tell people to change the character they like just because they don’t like something about them. It doesn’t matter what you like or don’t like any oc is the artist’s character and there not even cannon to the show so why should it matter anyway. The whole point of this community is to be able to express yourself freely and things you love about the show and characters not spread hate and bring others down just for a character they like to make.

My oc is an alicorn and she's not royalty or has unlimited power. She was born an alicorn and has a lot of power but she does have weaknesses and is not god-like. she wants to be respected yes, but wants people to treat her for who she is, not what she is. she's just a simple alicorn living a somewhat "normal" life. the reason I made myself an alicorn is because I feel different from a lot of people growing up and making myself an alicorn makes me feel different but unique at the same time. personally. I don't hate alicorn ocs. I don't judge them because of what they are. I hate how people are like,"oh look an alicorn oc! kill it with fire!" people should treat alicorns for WHO they are, not WHAT.

Ever since I saw the episode where Twilight became an alicorn there is a story I would be interested in with an alicorn OC. Becoming an alicorn has to be earned with some great deed but someone like Twilight didn't know that all her training was leading her to become an alicorn princess with responsibilities and her world was completely changed. I think it would be interesting if an alicorn was upset about becoming an alicorn just because of their kindness and now their life will never be the same. They will live forever while their loved ones continue to grow old and they watch them slowly die, they're afraid to get close to someone because that friend would grow old and eventually die while they wouldn't age, they have new responsibilities and pressure that came with the royal title they never asked for, and the happiness of others has to be put first while their aren't able to be happy because of how they have to think of others and not think about their own needs. I'm not saying I'd write this but I would find it to be an interesting story to read IF it was done well and it would be a unique take on the alicorn OC. Or maybe it wouldn't... I must admit I haven't read any My Little Pony fanfiction.

My "personal OC", as it were, is a cat. :P That said, I do have several Alicorn OC stories in my head that I haven't written down--much less published--because of the huge community pushback. I think, though, that if someone writes a story with an Alicorn OC, it can still be a good story so long as the Alicorn has a *reason for existing*. Especially if they weren't the main character, that would significantly lessen the crowd of naysayers. For example, you have Alicorns of the sun and moon, so why isn't there, say, an Alicorn of the Earth? What about the ruler of another planet, or a separate kingdom of equines?

I fall in the first complaint area. When you make a OC for a certain fanbom you are in essential adding something to that fandom be it cannon or not. There were only 2 alicorn because they were special, if you just keep adding more it will lose all meaning.
A second complain, that i have, is not mentioned in the vid. All alicorn we have seen have great power more so then other ponies. Its would be the MLP way of making everyone a super saiyen.

I think that Alicorn Oc's just think they are special. An Oc is a pony version of you. If youre a Pegasus u might think or just might be fast, a wonderbolt,love adventures,or something to do with a Pegasus, if ur a unicorn, u might be smart, good at tricks, or anything that a unicorn can do. And if you're an earth pony u might be hard working, strong, or anything like that. But if you're all of them then you are talented, but it doesn't mean u are a royal, powerful, the best pony in equestria, related to any cannon pony Alicorn . If youre all of them just simply choose one. Like a unicorn. Maybe you're a unicorn that s fast. Or a Pegasus, maybe you're good at tricks and love adventures. Or an earth pony, you are fast, smart and a good trixter pony. And being an Alicorn means nothing of that. An Alicorn just means your "special" and "everyone loves you because you have wings and a horn" but face it, if u were a type of pony in the human world(an Alicorn pony), u would be stuck up thinking everyone loves you and that s you're royal bc you have more than 1 talent.

Well I do respect your opinion as it’s your own and I’m not gonna change that. The ONLY reason my oc that represents me is an alicorn is because of how I have severe problems I want to get throw and I made her the aftermath of me sorting out my problems and making me a better person. I’m in no way self centered or believe I’m special, not at all it’s just how I want to be after my huge struggles. She is the incarnation of how I want be, less sensitive, not to tempered but still has flaws as flaws are something everyone has and I will continue to have.

Me personally, my OC is a unicorn with a time related cutie mark (her special ability is to see into the past and future), but I also gave her a few other abilities. She could fly with just magic (which Twilight's mom did, so I'm convinced you don't have to be an uber powerful unicorn to do that) and teleport short distances. I figured since I study a lot irl I'd also make my OC an avid reader, which would allow her to pick up on more advanced spells than the average unicorn, similar to how Twilight and Starlight grew so powerful. My OC was still called a Mary Sue just because she knew advanced magic, and since then I've realized that "Mary Sue" is flung around like candy, and it really lost its meaning.
Tbh I stopped caring about alicorn OCs. Almost all of them have terrible/cliche backstories imo, but at the same time, they're also made my kids just having fun, and I don't think it's right to trample on what makes someone happy, especially if they aren't pretentious about it.

I have an OC that is half pony half changling. The story takes place before the changlings are reformed though. So, a Pony (Pink Frost) falls in love with a changling (Bee Hive). The first time they kiss Bee Hive turns into a reformed changling. Eventually, they get married and have a daughter named Pollen Flower (her design is her coat is orangey - yellow her mane is light magenta, the base of her tail is slightly translucent, she has belly plates, and a gem on Her chest, her wings are also translucent) as a filly she was treated very bad and nopony loled her

When doing an mlp transformation of my other two Fursonas, I made them alicorns. I remembered that a pony had to earn their horn or wings by accomplishing something great, so these two basically saved the world. I would share the entire story and lore on my Fursonas, but that would take a looooong time
I have a feeling the reason people hate them is due to the idea. That Alicorn a need some type of status. They need to hold a power, something that makes them so different. That they are a Alicorn.

Rosey Rockett, as her name was in the beginning was a random. Normal looking Alicorn. She had no true stand out features. Yet she was a master flyer, and amazing with magic. She was so powerful yet no one knew about her? That made no sense.
After years with the OC, she now is a believable character. The second daughter of Princess Cadence following her older sister Skyla, and older then her baby sister Flurry.
Yet now, she dyes her mane to express herself. She's bullied by her sister to the point where. Some magic and stress, break her horn. Stunting it's growth, so now she can't really use magic. It's painful to try and using it, spells go bad quickly.
Something as simple as picking up a cup will normally go wrong, causing the cup to shatter or go flying across the room.
She's depressed and insecure over all her sister's tormenting.
Rosey has many pros and cons.

You new story for your of still has some flaws... It's seems like now everyone has an oc which is important, like yours being a daughter of a Canon character and a princess of that. Many people people know they have to add some flaws to the characters so the add a disability or depression (which I something I hate seeing in oc's).
To fix your Oc I have some ideas you could use:
Maybe she could be a princess from another kingdom, and second in line for the throne. She broke her horn in a childhood accident and even though it has healed she isn't that good at using it from the lack of practice. So she mainly uses her wings.

Then I decided since everything I had gone through had given me anxiety, trust issues, paranoia, depression, that Rosey should have these things too.
It only made since to me, but I loved it because somehow I stay positive and happy.
I found Potential in myself. I wanted her to reflect that and my bad parts.

your right I created an alicorn OS. im proud of it, im not trying to prove im better than anyone else. I want to show what im capable of that my cutie mark shows what I am. Stinger M's Productions shows it has multiple talent and that it one style art doesn't mean all you can do. That's what my OS character means to mean to me. I don't focus on one subject of art, it shows everything, it gives advice. If one style doesn't seem to work out their is always another way. My OS character maybe an alicorn and people might get mad about it, thats thier problem they have there OS character to represent them and I have mine, StingerM of Stinger M's Productions an alicorn of art.

The only reason people hate alicorn OCs is that most of them are created by people who A. Want to create themselves as an all-powerful being, B. Have very bad character writing skills, or C. Are children who are very new to the idea of character traits and development. All of these things amount to a Mary Sue/ Gary Sue character, or at the very least a very badly written one. I think that because a majority of alicorn OCs are like this, it has become a label in the fandom for 'Perfect, badly written and loved by everyone'. This isn't necessarily the case. Most people who have ideas for alicorn OCs have been scared by that label into settling for a pegasus, unicorn, or earth pony, but some traits and character ideas can be symbolized in having an alicorn OC. I don't know. From what I can see when an Alicorn is believable people don't have a problem with it. I also have a friend who has an alicorn OC and he is great with him. He comes from a fairytale and therefore has quite weird ideas. He also resents his origin so he is extremely rational and not very good with faith or deep emotions.
There are only 5 Alicorns in Equestria... However many can be found in the place they come from.

Yes, although in my honest opinion its most likely that discord is either the last of the draconequus race, or perhaps the only one which would make sense as he is the spirit of chaos and disharmony, which is quite a unique title that is clearly defined by his magical abilities and personality. Although, given what little knowledge we have of discords magic or where it comes from it is also possible that other Draconequus do exist, and that the magic of discord simply doesn't exist in or is extremely weakened in other draconequus and perhaps that discord himself isn't actually a draconequus, but instead he simply prefers to take that form. However, As discord can take any form he desires and seemingly has almost no limits to his magic, if you are to roleplay as a draconequus i suggest limiting magic abilities, as to share the abilities of discord would be to essentially roleplay a god. It is quite obvious that the only reason discord has ever lost a battle is due to his cockiness and inability to predict the outcomes of his actions as well as the outcomes of the actions of others.

I first started with a pegasus, basically a recolor of Fluttershy. It had the MS Paint colors, and just looked stupid. I was new to the internet, so I never knew of Sai or Medibang, and was desperate to find people to relate to. Seeing all of these OCs made me wonder "Should I do that?" and learned 3 basic types of ponies. Earth, pegasus, and unicorn. I couldn't choose between pegasus and unicorn, so I went a bit deeper. I discovered alicorns from.. I can't remember, a video on one of the episodes..? I instantly thought "ALICORN. NOW." and took a terrible base online. I drew it based off of myself, and no real meaning to it besides "OH LOOK IT'S ME!" No backstory, no nothing.

Now that I know what the FUCK a OC is, I could easily draw one with the help of Medibang and Sai. It's been years since I drew a MLP OC, but I'm sure I could do it much better than that horrible shit. -Maybe a unicorn in a cat sweater, with highlights.. AWW SO CUTE!-
But I'm not going to. Why? Because I don't really like the MLP fandom anymore. It's kinda too childish for me, besides I want to slowly stop drawing until I get a drawing tablet. I've been dying for one, but their all too expensive! AGH!!

Alicorn OCS aren’t bad, you just have to create them the right way. A lot of the community will hear you’re making an alicorn OC and immediately think that you’re making a mary sue. Not you though.
