I had the same problem with sea monkeys when I was a kid. Sad Christmas break. Now I’m on day 9. They seem to be thriving. I still have babies appearing. My situation is so odd to me, because I put tap water in the tank🤦🏻♀️ AND I didn’t know I was supposed to aerate the tank! It’s “crucial” to aerate the tank during the first week, well, I started doing it on day 3/4… my kit didn’t come with an aerator, so I’ve been using a needle-less syringe. I wasn’t too concerned, because they were doing great! I’m only using bottled water, from now on. I fed them on day 5. They began eating right away, even the new babies are eating! I’m seeing new babies almost everyday. I’m crossing my fingers that most (possibly all) of them will survive.🤞🏻I did so many things incorrectly during the first few days. I’m feeling blessed lol. Don’t do what I did! Read the instructions very carefully! My kit is different. My instructions were difficult for ME to read, so don’t be afraid to go to the Sea Monkey website for more information. Make sure to use something safe to aerate the tank by the way! 😊
So it's actually a myth that they appear out of nowhere the two sets of food you're actually doing two sets of eggs but the rare Survivor from the second set is the large one that you see with your eyes who will die of starvation but as he dies the next set has something to feed upon so you get the image of them appearing from nothing but you get the longevity of cannibalistic nature they are born with
This gives any eggs that hatched some time to grow, and when packet number 2 is added with some of the blue colt dye in it, it makes it easier to see them- hence making it look like they just hatched.
@@aqualabcreations I understand that, so really its just a patience thing for kids... but we could technically add pack 2 in at the same time as 1 with no real issues?
I worked at KB Toys in the early 2000s, when Sea Monkey's made their first resurgence. We set up a display, and our experience was very similar. It was the same product, with the three packets. Very few hatched, and what few did hatch didn't survive long. It wasn't a terribly great product demo. I can't remember selling them, outside of Christmas novelty gifts.
What about triops? I had some as a kid. Got to the size of a quarter. Think I over fed as algae took over and they died after 90 days. If they can be moved to a 1 gallon and kept longer that would be awesome. Please make that video. I'd buy more if you could teach me to get longer than 3 months and reproducing colony.
Aqua dragons I bought my son will be 2yrs this Christmas. The have had two die off’s with no signs of life but after a few days they have came back. My mind is blown that these things are still around.
Do you still have to feed your Mars colony? Looks like they have loads of algae in there to eat! :D (I'm new to brine shrimp colonies, so sorry if this is a stupid question.)
@@labella9291 they absolutely do eat the algae. That’s literally what the sea monkey packet food is. They filter the algae. Which is why he said he doesn’t need to put any extra packet food in but once every few weeks. Because they are feeding on the algae grown in the tank.
I want to see " Sea Monkeys " wearing Crowns on their heads, Royal robes and carrying Scepters. Yes, just like I saw them in those Comic Book Ads back when I was a kid in the 60's.
I was 35 when I finally got my Sea Monkeys. As a kid in UK I seen them in ads at the back of American comic mags and was desperate for them. I had quite a few, they were doing great but sadly the tank got knocked over, I was gutted.
Intresting between these 2 it would be aqua dragon its got the led light, the built in bubbler which is vital for hatching brine shrimp which you clearly know 🙂
I have heard they make refill sea monkey sets but how would I use them? because I wouldn't want to add more salt to what's still at the bottom of the dried tank incase it gets too salty for them. thank you.
How did you get your sea monkeys to live for more than a year? Mine always die after about a week even though the conditions are just right for them and I feed them regularly when they reach the feeding stage.
I don’t change the water. I just keep things consistent and top them off with distilled water as they evaporate. I picked the warmest room in my house and only feed about once a week.
I remember when I had sea monkeys back in the day they even had a little booklet they came with that sold all types of toys and different things for them. I would like to see that again
Stupid question as I known nothing about this stuff but how do the eggs survive in the plastic packaging? It could be 30 years before anyone opens it up.
The funny thing is that the animals have almost zero food in most cases and they are simply a mix of the three types of eggs that are naturally produced by the animals. One type hatches immediately a second hatches in a few days and so on up to the thirty day mark. The stuff that is supposed to be the purifying agent is not really that and as a matter of fact they all have eggs and almost zero food if any.
There is a tiny bit of food in package number 3 but not enough to maintain them and there I a die in the various packages that makes them more visible. You won't get a breeding population and they will have a sudden die off in about three months at most. You can try giving them algae as a food source but their not long lived creatures as is and none of the packages have enough potential food to support them or even start a algae colony. You basically need to introduce algae with the first package to have any hope of maintaining their population and even then you have to harvest them every few days. The tiny bit of food that is in package number 3 is mostly there as a coloring agent and not much more. This is a classic example of the corporate abuse of animals that occurs sometimes. I'm not saying that there isn't ever a situation where some companies are actually giving you food for the animals but even when they do it isn't enough to actually feed them or anything more than coloring in most cases. Lastly yes the animals are prone to eating each other but the lack of any real food sorce makes that worse in addition to them not even having a bubbler to help keep the tank oxygenated.
@nowirehangers2815 I'm not I have done lots of research on them and they really don't have much if any food in the packets and it's a trick dealing with dying the animals and the different types of eggs. The animals really produce three different types of eggs and there isn't anything special with the brine shrimp, you don't really need to add the conditioner or anything else like that most of the time because most tap water is already close enough to be able to hatch them and they will live between 14 and 60 day without any need for additional food. I would however like to let you know that you can easily turn them into a food source for other things humans included very easily and you can also use brine shrimp as a kind of water indicator to see if the water you are planning to place aquarium animals into is safe for them. If you want to know more then you can easily find more information about them typically with a few seconds or minutes of searching. Just so you know about it you can find brine shrimp that live up to six months or longer but you will need to look hard. You should also know that most crustaceans are fairly cannibalistic and that is part of the reason why extra food isn't necessary. It is gross but unfortunately very true.
This reminds me of being a kid I absolutely loved my sea monkeys and getting to feed them it was so exciting watching them grow! Might have to get more when I get my own place again lol

We got sea monkeys for the office since we're not allowed to have a fish tank. They all died with in the first week. :( But I will show them your video and maybe we will get Aqua Dragons next ;)
I've had mine for about 2 months now and they are growing and breeding like crazy. Can you give me any tips on how to transfer them into a larger tank? Do I need water additives or salt or anything?
@@SylvieGrimalkin I can! First off, you need to go out and buy some salt, the best kind is Instant Ocean Sea Salt (I checked around), they sell a box with enough mix for 10 gallons. Second, you need a 1 gallon tank, preferably with a light and a sponge filter/water pump. I bought Carefree Fish tank off Amazon, but haven't used it yet. Third, you need a very tiny air pump and air stone, with tubing and little air regulator valves. Artemia Daddy here on youtube has a USB compatible in water heater (a lizard heating mat isn't enough for a gallon sized tank) in his Amazon list. Finally, you need some pipettes if you don't already have an Aqua Leash (the tiny tube with a squeeze bulb handle). I bought a TON of them for 16, and can mail some extra ones to you, I have more than I will ever need. You use these to transfer shrimp around, and suck up debris that the pump might not catch.Oh, and to know how much salt to add, temperature to keep them at (you want to have them on a windowsill for sunlight to grow algae) you should probably pick up the tiny Brine Shrimp book on Amazon. The title is "Sea Monkeys & Brine Shrimp A Keeper's Handbook" by David Franklin. It's useful, but does repeat information needlessly to pad the page count.

I'm honestly surprised none of these companies have ever released a tank with a tiny little aerator/filtration unit built into the base. I suppose they figure the price increase would damage the demand for the product, but... it would be interesting to see.
That would be cool for sure. Some of them do have built in manual air pumps but not a true aerator.
They don't need much. There's a mountain outside El Paso where they live in puddles on the rocks. They're bone dry until it rains, then they have water for a dew days or weeks. They haven't been connected to surface water for millions of years, and they thrive.

@@aqualabcreations thank you for answering my question
So let me ask this question:
Who thought it was a good idea to design a aquarium with LED lights and put the batteries on the bottom?
So you have to lift it up above your head, unscrew the hatch (without dropping the screw or hatch), replace the batteries, single handedly place back the hatch and screw in the screw. All without shaking to much so you do not spill.
Haha good question. I guess it hides anything unsightly than If it was on the sides. But I do believe that they are created with the idea that they wont be getting replaced or used often.
What are the ones on the far right at 11:25? They're huge!
Nevermind I see now, I didn't realize sea monkeys could get that big, that's pretty insane

Have you tried a super market? They should have distilled water. If not spring water will work!
We used arrowhead bottled spring water and it’s working great. It has no added minerals.
It's just any bottled water. Shelf water in the shops. It's already been filtered. Even a bottle of water bought at the shop or restaurant, it's always filtered first so just use that 😋
I had the same problem with sea monkeys when I was a kid. 😊
Well I’m glad it all worked out after all of that trial and error!
So it's actually a myth that they appear out of nowhere the two sets of food you're actually doing two sets of eggs but the rare Survivor from the second set is the large one that you see with your eyes who will die of starvation but as he dies the next set has something to feed upon so you get the image of them appearing from nothing but you get the longevity of cannibalistic nature they are born with

what do you give them when they run out of food
I haven’t really ran out of food. I have plenty of packets for now. You can feed powdered spirulina if you run out.
thanks for the tip love your videos
Considering the fact there's some eggs in packet 1 of the sea monkey kit, why do we need to wait 24hrs before adding packet 2?
This gives any eggs that hatched some time to grow, and when packet number 2 is added with some of the blue colt dye in it, it makes it easier to see them- hence making it look like they just hatched.
@@aqualabcreations I understand that, so really its just a patience thing for kids... but we could technically add pack 2 in at the same time as 1 with no real issues?

Brine shrimp are filter feeders, so they don't eat the algae, unless it's super small and floating in the water.
@@labella9291 they absolutely do eat the algae. That’s literally what the sea monkey packet food is. They filter the algae. Which is why he said he doesn’t need to put any extra packet food in but once every few weeks. Because they are feeding on the algae grown in the tank.
So what is a proper way to rear sea monkeys? There are no filters in these thank to clean the water or anything.

Yes, just like I saw them in those Comic Book Ads back when I was a kid in the 60's.

Are aqua dragons and sea monkeys two different kinds of brine shrimp? Or are they the same thing?
Sea Monkeys are a hybrid species that are designed to withstand harsher climates.

You would have to rinse the tank and start over if you’re using new packets.
or, add the required amount of water on top - if you want a bigger tank
How did you get your sea monkeys to live for more than a year? Mine always die after about a week even though the conditions are just right for them and I feed them regularly when they reach the feeding stage.
Stability is key! Keep them in a warm room and don’t feed any more than once a week when things are established.
How often do you change the water for the sea monkeys on mar or how have you kept them so long ?
I don’t change the water. I just keep things consistent and top them off with distilled water as they evaporate. I picked the warmest room in my house and only feed about once a week.

I just ordered the aqua dragons for my great nephew. He’s 3. I think he’ll be delighted with them.
Wohooo! Good luck with it!
Will duckweed live on the Salt water in the aquadragon setup?
No, unfortunately it would not.
There is eggs in packet 1 and 2. But packet 3 certainly has food.
I don't know much about these creatures but I always assumed there was a lot of cannibalism involved.
@@jedstanaland2897you are wrong about all of that
@nowirehangers2815 I'm not I have done lots of research on them and they really don't have much if any food in the packets and it's a trick dealing with dying the animals and the different types of eggs.

It adds salt to the water. There is also eggs in it.
When I had sea monkeys as a kid it was most important to keep them in the light as much as possible which I didn't see any of in the video, algae is produced by sunlight and brine shimp live in salty pools of water with plenty light, could be the reason for them all dying, like the dragon's though, new one for me 🏴🇺🇦
