They missed an opportunity to make this a little bit more expensive but a lot more impressive by adding a bubbling rock inside the volcano that shoots a stream of bubbles on a timer (say, every 15 minutes), to simulate an eruption while aerating the tank. Or even just making it a button.

This design is such an improvement over the kit I got as a child in the 70's. The designers took the memo about texture aiding in algal growth, they've tweaked the formulas of the food and what comes in the egg packet. I think they've tried to make something that will actually work well. I noticed another commentor mentioned they could have added a bubbling feature which could have taken the tank up a notch, and would work well with the volcano theme, so I guess there's room for a "New and Improved" version. Whatever the case, I'm considering buying this for my grandchildren, so they, or perhaps you, have done a great job!

9:02 Since youtube decided to recommend me this video, I might as well write a comment. Those round egg looking things in the food mixture seemed like decapsuled brine shrimp eggs (i.e. they've been treated with bleach to dissolve the outer shell layer away. Crazy how resilient the dried brine shrimp eggs really are.) They might be there to give kiddos extra excitement when the number of their pets magically increases later on. Observing the changes is exciting after all. Decapsuled eggs will "hatch", or more like start developing, in broader water range of parameters than ,intact eggs with downside of not being as resilient against abrasion and UV light as intact eggs.
Of course my guess might be completely wrong and those globular things are something else. It would be easy to test this hypothesis out in separate container though. This info might be beneficial to anyone who buys this particular kit and something goes awry with the colony soon after the eggs hatch and all they're left with is that packet of food.

Nice video John. I experimented with Auqa Dragons when they first came out. The tank shape was similar to the SM Volcano tank. The population was quite large from the beginning and kept growing. Then one day, with nothing changing it started declining. I think something happened to the water with the large population. You showed that tank and it's features well, makes me want one. I tried the red powder with Sea-Monkeys from your other video that worked well, but I had issues getting more after my initial supply ran out. Keep up the good work, I am enjoying your videos.

I’m always excited to see new tank designs. That seems to be one of the repetitive criticisms of Sea-Monkeys - they don’t switch things up very often. I’m curious what the price point is for this compared to a basic Sea-Monkey set.
Agree about the red food as well. I think it would be a good idea for Sea-Monkeys to add a baby food to their line of supplements. It’s a new gimmick that would also help with the survival rate.
Good to see a new video review, John. Thoughtfully and beautifully done as always.
    Thanks much. - Tod

I think Sea-Monkeys has a great core product lineup with their current tanks, it would just be nice to see some of the more creative tanks like what Exploratoy were doing with the brand in the early 2000s. I believe this Volcano tank sells for around $28 USD which is decent given how large and elaborate the design is.
I love your idea of a "baby food"! It's definitely something worth pitching. I bet you you could make an awesome packet illustration for it too, and I get the feeling it would be quite popular too considering a lot of people seem to have trouble keeping babies alive.

*I live in a warmer location, but I like to keep the inside cool. Would I still be ok to keep these as pets if I use a heater?
*Does it really matter which kit/brand I purchase for a beginner?
*Is indirect sunlight a must? I don't really have a spot for that, would a grow lamp be just as good or worse?

I really hope you're willing to answer questions?
I've seen a lot of bad reviews for aqua dragons. But would you say they are no different to the sea monkey brand or there IS a difference?
Also, as I am wanting to get my hands on a kit again, regarding food...yes, when the tank is full of algae, they have a banquet ..but is it worth giving them some of the actual food too here and there, as a "treat" or really not needed?
    Thank you

A more deluxe version of this tank with a slightly larger capacity, bubbler in the volcano, and motorized fan to create a constant lava flow effect would probably sell pretty darn well.

Just discovered your channel, how fun! I would love to know if you ever plan to branch out into kits like this that are for other critters (like triops, I'm not sure what other tiny animal eggs would be able to be stagnant in a freeze dried packet lol). And I'm curious, do you have other tanks that are bigger/ not marketed specifically for brine shrimp in which you keep them? I went to Toys R Us and bought a Sea Monkey kit when I was I think in my teens, hoping to grow live food for my betta... I'm not sure where I failed because I followed the instructions faithfully but I never saw any shrimp. But you're making me think of trying again. XD

Hey, have you thought of trying a set up that combines the brine shrimp, copepods, tigger pods, or other micro organisms that might flesh out a full ecosystem? I would love to see a video to that effect! I have recently started keeping sea monkeys/ aqua dragons type brine shrimp and have also been binging your channel for info on how to ensure they have the best odds possible. My very first attempt (an Ocean Zoo tank kit that was on special in my local Aldi, an inexpensive grocery store chain in my area that has weekly specials on offer) didn’t survive, possibly due to poor storage conditions. But my inner child was awakened and I had fond memories of keeping sea monkeys as a child. I ended up investing in a one gallon tank, aquarium sand, some fake plants, a mini heater, as well as an air pump along with a replacement set of water purifier, eggs, and food. My new babies seem to be doing great so far as almost 2 weeks old! I greatly credit your videos with my success this time around. But I’m very curious about introducing other species such as copepods etc in an effort to set up a full ecosystem. Fingers crossed that you see this comment and decide to give it a try!

Heat pads are good if you only need to raise the temperature by a few degrees, so I’m sure it’d still work fine for that. The mini aquarium heaters are a much more effective heating option though, so they’re usually my preference these days, especially during the colder months
