I didn't even know you could get them anymore, but now that I do I went and got a kit. I might get your special lid before we go on vacation this summer to keep them warm and aerated.! Great idea!
Great custom 3-D Printed lids to allow for the light and filter/bubbles for air into the water. Cool to see that mother Sea-Monkey eating the algae in that one view. You are right, feeding too much too soon can be bad for the tank and brine shrimp. Good tip about the nursery for the babies. Cool Sea-Monkey Figure too. Great tips as usual, thanks!

Been toying with the idea of getting Sea Monkeys for awhile. Just spend a good bit buying the set and all the accessories to start my Sea Monkey journey at 37 years old. Thank you for the link to your Amazon list with all the accessories. One-stop shop for everything I need.
Good luck, So I was lucky ❤️🙏🏽… Unfortunately, most of my sea monkeys died because they were already old and didn't really have any offspring, so I added a few more eggs. The little ones are now big and I hope to see their offspring soon ❤️🙏🏽.
Love the ingenious lid design! I'd be careful sharing accessories - like the leash - between tanks. They can spread bad things too. Thanks for the great review of the volcano tank!
Absolutely, but that first month or so that it takes to get them to adulthood can be a little tricky, especially if it's your first time. Once that's out of the way, and especially once you have algae established, just feed them and top up the water as necessary. They're probably easier to care for than the average houseplant.
@@questionnaireii1412 Venus fly traps became much easier after I discovered that they both require a winter rest period, and can safely overwinter outdoors in my local climate. After that, they just sat in a bucket of peat on my patio for several years.
Thank you for the advise for a heater. I knew they needed heat but I figured that if I turned up my thermostat that I could make it warm enough for them. It's been a week and I'm still not seeing anything, so I found my way here. I can't put them by a window because all I have are drafty sliding doors and it's winter, which should have been another reason to get a heater.
Back when I was in middle school, I bought a kit and I had the perfect spot. They sat on my desk right in front of my big window and got plenty of sunshine most of the day! When the algae got out of control, I bought 2 tiny little slugs to keep the algae in line and the tank was self sufficient all the way until I hit college. Unfortunately they ended up not making the trip to our new house. Their tank tipped and spilled on the way inside 😢 I found a new kit today, so I just might set them up soon. I bought a much bigger aquarium for them though. Don't know what I'll use their original for.

I'm amazed that you got algae so quickly, it took me a good few months. Once you've got algae established, caring for your Sea-Monkeys becomes a breeze.
When is the best point to add the heater and filter ? I’ve just put my eggs in today October 15th am I best to wiat till they hatch to add them or should I put them both in from the start ?
Is the plastic tank important? We've some really nice glass containers which would make fantastic sea monkey homes (and I can then use the plastic tank as a nursery!) Thanks.

Hey John! Wanted to thank you for all your tips on hatching and raising brine shrimp! Using your advice, I set up a little 7L tank with a little heater and air line (though I needed a bigger heater than the USB one lol!), and now I have dozens of babies swimming happily! I tried with sea monkeys first, but alas, the packets had absorbed moisture and were full of goop, so I ended up getting some artemia salina eggs intended for brine shrimp hatcheries. I have some astaxanthin on the way to feed them too, so hopefully soon they’ll be cute and pink! Thank you for all your advice 🥰🥰🥰 I wanted to ask, do you know if anything can share a tank with them? I know some aquarium snails can tolerate surprisingly high salinities, have you ever seen any in a brine shrimp tank?
That's exciting! Good luck with your new tank. I'd highly recommend trying to culture live microalgae to feed them to increase your chances of success 👍 In my video review of the Sea-Monkeys Big Show tank I show some aquatic snails :) and my video review of the Spongebob Plenty O Plankton set shows copepods which also work as tank mates.
@@pico-cosmos thanks for your advice :) I ended up buying some live microalgae (nannochloropsis- I read that brine shrimp eat it in the wild!) and using that to kick start a culture, since it’s winter here and I can’t really leave the windows open. My sea monkeys seem to be thriving on it, and my culture is looking green as all heck! I’ve set up some purple grow lights to hopefully encourage more algae growth in the tank as well 💖
Would love to see a video on how to raise sea monkeys in a bigger fish tank. I had a whole SM breeding programme as a kid with 7 tanks. Would love to introduce them to my wean but need something less prone to tipping. Love the content.
You might have already answered this somewhere, but what water treatment do you use for setting up a nursery tank or second tank? Do you have to buy more sea monkey water purifier packets, or is there a cheaper way to make the water safe?

Hey how can i get some of the gunk out if the tank my kid never took care of them so i knoe have them in my room with me they had babies and just asking for some help on where to buy the cool stuff for them lol
Thanks for a great video. When you set up a nursery tank, what do you use with the bottled water to make sure that salinity of the water is okay for the youngsters please?
I have a pack of these coming I want to put them in my old fish tank it's not got anything in it but I was wondering can you use fish water conditioner please help
Hi! Question for you, with the aerator, does it come with the mechanism that allows you to control air flow or does that need to be bought separately? Thanks for making this video to help me to teach my son to care for his aquadragons🙂
How does the air pump go to gever? I got the same one as you are using from your site, but it doesn't come with instructions. i can't see how you have attached the white bit you use to lower the setting. Just a photo or explernashan would be grat thank you.
ive never owned sea monkeys and ive always seen them in the little bare tanks so im curious- is it okay to put substrate and/or aquatic plants in with them? or does it need to be completely empty?
I really like your video's!! ❤😊 one question: Can you overfeed with phytoplankton? I've been growing my own phytoplankton and feeding it to some adults I purchased. + I added a small container in the aquarium with the adults as a nursery. I put some eggs in and they hatched almost two weeks ago, so cool. They seem not to progress though, they stay very small. I keep on trying, with your tips I will succeed!🎉
Yes I think you can overfeed with phytoplankton. My recommendation is to feed them enough algae that they can clear in one day 👍 Try adding a heater to increase growth speed
Thank you much for this video. ☺️ I’m getting everything I need to keep the little ones happy. I had the cheap Marine Zoo kit years ago, it didn’t work out. 🥲 I’m feeling much more prepared, and I’m using the much better Ocean Volcano kit. 🌋
So, kinda unusual, but our home has no natural light in it. Would our electric lights be good enough for them? All our windows are blocked off for heating reasons, too cold to put them outside as we are in Alaska. Thanks.
This is a great video! I have a question though! If I don't have a window available (I have mischievous cats that like to push everything off the window sill) would it be okay to only have a grow light?
Can i clean it and im also running out of food there is a lot of algea on the bottom which i dont mind its just the algea on the glass that's annoying cause i cant see into it
Is there a specific distilled/spring water you prefer Tre most over others? I’m genuinely curious since there are so many different brands and just water bottled water in general
I have been getting into trying brine shrimp out but am having a hard time producing algea. I live in a very shaded area so the windows never really get sunlight. I would prefer not to buy a light. would zoo plankton coral food be good for them?
So I got one of the pumps you suggested to buy in your Amazon link and it is way too powerful for my tiny tank with no way to turn it down. I would like to find a pump I can use for the regular volcanic tank. Any suggestions for that? I can restrict the air flow from the pump I bought, I have no idea if that would damage it in the long run. Which I guess doesn't really matter cause I can't return it anyway.
Ours really grew large when we put them into a larger tank and we got toys for them to play with! It was incredible! But they don’t sell toys for them anymore, do you have any tips for toys by any chance?😃
Hi,I’m sorry that I haven’t seen you channel for some time but I will try to keep up with your videos.I still have been thinking if sea monkeys would be a good animal for me to care for.maybe I will soon.have a good day/afternoon/night😁
I used to just grow them in a lunch container cause I use them for live food for my big aquarium sometimes but I just recently bought an actual sea monkey tank!
Thank you very much for the video and the tips. I fed my sea monkeys often, so from the fifth day onwards I fed them a few drops of the liquid food once a day (for example 4 drops in 4 teaspoons of water) and then I put one or two drops in their mouth I've done it in the tank, now I hardly have to feed them at all anymore, I store the finished food in the fridge, mix it with warm water and then put it in the tank, I've also put yeast in it, it really smells now... 🤢🤮 but whatever, They're still doing pretty well, unfortunately I only have brown algae in the water but I'll get rid of them somehow.
Haha I’m glad to hear they’re doing well! Yeah I also have some of that brown algae in one of my tanks, it’s not particularly nice to look at but the sea-monkeys seem to like it 🤷♂️
When I saw this video, I was actually quite surprised. See monkeys are also known as brine shrimp and I use them to feed my pet fish so I had no idea people actually keep them as pets. I thought they were just for feeding fish. 😅😅
So my son got sea monkeys for Xmas. Some hatched but immediately die. I thought I did everything right. Its not overly cold in NZ ATM. I've brought a new set of the packets and gonna try again as haven't seen any in 5 days. I've ordered a heat pad and hoping thats what it is.
@@pico-cosmos attempt two is starting well. Water temp is higher and I've seen 3 babies from just the purified water packet. Will be adding eggs packet in a day. Waiting on a grow light and proper seedling mat. Thank you for your videos they have help so much
I got a grow light for my sea monkeys and it wasn't heating the tank above 75 degrees F and it was keeping it constant but they keep dying, 3rd packet to try now and I went away for a weekend and instead of using the grow light I put them in the window and when I got back I switched back to the grow light and they all died again. I don't understand why
Feed them days after because the eggs have food in it already. If they go to the bottom they are hungry. If they go at the top they need air ❤❤❤❤ correct?
So I was wondering if you could do a video hatching these at different temperatures as an experiment to see witch promotes the best growth health and longevity 🤞🏼🤞🏼 like I mean 104 F• 80F• 90 F• 70F• all the way down to 20F • with the heater
Hi John! I was wondering, if growing algae is essential for a thriving sea monkey colony, can you pre-grow them and then add the eggs later? Would that be viable? What do I do if I live in a place that isn't near the sea at all, I doubt there are any saltwater algae particles in the air here.
I think yes, algae is essential for a healthy Sea-Monkey tank long-term. You could try to grow algae, but tbh the best way is to just set up a Sea-Monkey tank and let it happen naturally. I live very close to the ocean so I don’t have any experience keeping Sea-Monkeys inland. I’d recommend just trying your best to see what happens. You can also purchase live algae online 👍

The Cambridge Dictionary includes definitions such as "to obtain, buy, or earn something," further highlighting the transactional and acquisitive nature of "getting."
By considering these sources, we can conclude that your assessment is largely correct. The word "getting" indeed implies various forms of acquisition and fulfillment, encompassing requests, expectations, entitlements, and settlements in its usage.
How do you aerate the tank without buying all the stuff?
pour the water back and forth between the tank and a bowl abt 5-6 times
When should I first start using a grow lamp? Can I use it right after they hatch?
Yup! I use mine straight away :)
Excellent! Thank you for shooting all the awesome videos.! They're both funny and extremely educational. Nice work!
My tank come with a light that changes color or picking just one color. What color do they like the most?? Purple??
hi may i know how to setup the water for nursery? water parameters?
I just used a second Sea-Monkey kit. If you’re interested in making a DIY tank, I have a brine shrimp culturing guide on my website
Thank you for these tips, cant wait to be able to finally have sea monkeys !
Just set it up as a second Sea-Monkey tank with packets #1 & #2
Hello! Im bought a heater (mini) is the 16 celcius english celcius?
Yeah you want to set the temperature to 26°C
i am just about to buy them and this helped me know what to do.SO EXITED.(:
I have a pack of these coming I want to put them in my old fish tank it's not got anything in it but I was wondering can you use fish water conditioner please help
Hi! Question for you, with the aerator, does it come with the mechanism that allows you to control air flow or does that need to be bought separately? Thanks for making this video to help me to teach my son to care for his aquadragons🙂
The ones I sell on my website come with an air control valve 👍
Would the led growth lights help to warm the tank water temperature at all??
Nah, they give off very little heat
How does the air pump go to gever? I got the same one as you are using from your site, but it doesn't come with instructions. i can't see how you have attached the white bit you use to lower the setting. Just a photo or explernashan would be grat thank you.
Never mind I think im just being slow haha
I have a new tank but I have old food. It's not opened but it's like 2 years old. Is it ok to still feed the new ones that food?
ive never owned sea monkeys and ive always seen them in the little bare tanks so im curious- is it okay to put substrate and/or aquatic plants in with them? or does it need to be completely empty?
A sand + fine gravel substrate works well :) plants are difficult because they need to tolerate the salty water
@@pico-cosmos thanks so much! ive been wanting to start up a dwarf shrimp tank but i live in a dorm so these guys will do haha
Thank you for this video your content is great
🙏
I bought the Handsandrais Aquarium USB Air Pump on your Amazon link and it's too strong. Where do you get an air control valve to lower the bubbles?
Should also be listed in that Amazon link 👌 they’re available at any pet store that sells fish aquarium supplies too 👍
Thank you much for this video. ☺️ I’m getting everything I need to keep the little ones happy. I had the cheap Marine Zoo kit years ago, it didn’t work out. 🥲 I’m feeling much more prepared, and I’m using the much better Ocean Volcano kit. 🌋
I want to keep them in a bigger tank. What water do I need to put in it?
I have a brine shrimp culturing guide on my website :) it has all the info for making a DIY tank
Wonderful video! Love all these tips! Hopefully I'll have some of my own soon too! :3
thank you for the tips! I've got a question.. why are some of my sea monkey's leg black in color?
Sounds like they might have black spot disease 😬 you could try increasing the salinity and adding some more calcium into the tank 👌
is it ok to mix the instant eggs with spoon?! the water turned blue after mixing
Yeah that’s fine :) There’s blue dye in the egg packet - it’s harmless 👍
love your vids!@@pico-cosmos
hi! asking if the sea monkeys make eggs asexually is it only girl seamonkeys?@@pico-cosmos
What about if your room temperature is up to 80 in the summer? would it need to be cooled to maintain temperature?
Anything below 85° is fine, if it gets up to 86° it’d be best to find a way to cool the tank down
So, kinda unusual, but our home has no natural light in it. Would our electric lights be good enough for them? All our windows are blocked off for heating reasons, too cold to put them outside as we are in Alaska. Thanks.
Great video
Are there STL files for the lids so I can print it myself?
Do these tips also work for brine shrimp?
These are brine shrimp. So yes it works.
Will a normal led light help make algae or does it need to be a UV lamp?
Normal led lights will work, just make sure it’s close to the tank
This is a great video! I have a question though! If I don't have a window available (I have mischievous cats that like to push everything off the window sill) would it be okay to only have a grow light?
ive been getting into this and my biggest concern is warmth. i dont have any heat pads and cant buy anything off online so i dont know what to do!
Wait until summer I guess
@@pico-cosmos my sea monkeys just hatched yesterday and are perfectly fine rightnow, actually!
I don’t think it makes a difference
Hi John, can you please tell me how you'd go about cleaning the tanks of their poop?
Thanks!
does the heater work for Triops?
Yup! Though this heater only really works with tanks up to 2 litres (0.5 gal) in size. Anything larger and you’d need a stronger heater
thnks that's about the size i use for grow out tanks@@pico-cosmos
Is filtered water from tap water okay?
This is helpful my teacher got sea monkeys thanks!🐒🐟
My Seamonkeys are 2 weeks old and are dying at a alarming rate, I added a lil tad bit of food since I have been giving them like a quarter of a scoop
Where can i get the small valves only?
If i want to use a more bigger tank. Is it safe to use sand or stones ? Does it require a filter ? Thank you
Im sure it would be just make sure to add salt to the water and probably a sponge filter ❤
Great video! These lids look great, is there any chance of sharing the files? I would be happy to pay for them
I’ve added a link to the STL files on the web page :) let me know how you print comes out!
@@pico-cosmos thanks so much!
Ours really grew large when we put them into a larger tank and we got toys for them to play with! It was incredible! But they don’t sell toys for them anymore, do you have any tips for toys by any chance?😃
How long do they take? I don’t think mine are working? Thinking I might need to start again
Make sure that the first feeding is reeeeally small. The babies need barely any food
@@pico-cosmos thanks I will
@@pico-cosmos attempt two is starting well. Water temp is higher and I've seen 3 babies from just the purified water packet. Will be adding eggs packet in a day. Waiting on a grow light and proper seedling mat. Thank you for your videos they have help so much
@@pico-cosmos well that cold night made the heat pad not do it's thing and they all but one died. Little disheartening.
@shaythellama5200 sorry to hear :/ I’ve found that the mini usb aquarium heaters are more effective than heat pads
Is it actually neccesary to add new salt after some time?
I got a grow light for my sea monkeys and it wasn't heating the tank above 75 degrees F and it was keeping it constant but they keep dying, 3rd packet to try now and I went away for a weekend and instead of using the grow light I put them in the window and when I got back I switched back to the grow light and they all died again. I don't understand why
Feed them days after because the eggs have food in it already. If they go to the bottom they are hungry. If they go at the top they need air ❤❤❤❤ correct?
Can the algae still grow without a grow light
Yup! Sunlight is the best way to get algae to grow
Thank you
Why not get a snail or 2 to passively keep the tank clean?
Finding saltwater snails that can tolerate the heat is difficult :/
You can also purchase live algae online 👍
what happens if you have the air pressure too high, I dont have a way to adjust the pressure and the pump is the only way I can aerate my monkeys.
you should do a hatching on clam shrimps
