  • Everyone knows that teaching classroom routines and procedures is crucial to beginning the school year with success. But I was sick of having to remember year after year exactly what I needed to teach the students. That’s why my colleagues and I created The ULTIMATE Checklist of Back to School Routines and Procedures. This template is fully customizable, so feel free to edit or delete items as you see fit! And if you have any suggestions for items to add, please leave a comment below.

I didn't really teach procedures last year and it caused so much frustration with students not doing things the way I expected or that we needed to keep things running smoothly. Next year, I know I want to do a better job of that and so this list is going to be so helpful! Thanks!

Thank you! I have taught for many years and go through most of these in the first week of school. It is so nice to have them all in one place! Thanks for your great tips and ideas.

Would it be possible to see how one could take a textbook and organize standards vs. the lessons covered in the textbook? I always struggle to figure out how some curriculums line up (or maybe don't and are missing) with the standards. Organizing all the information and figuring out what I'm missing or where to insert lessons that I'm having to supplement. I know that's kind of a large topic but I'm super overwhelmed by it and feel like I'm getting no where and your videos have helped me so much with other areas that I felt lost. Super cute hair cut by the way!

Great question! I've been fortunate in that I've worked for large public school districts who help create these resources for teachers. Since the district adopts the curriculum and textbooks, they often create a pacing guide for each grade level. If you work at a public school in the US, try looking into if you have a Academic Coordinator or Curriculum Director or coach who can help you create your own pacing guide. If you don't have access to those resources, it might be worthwhile to see if anyone else in your grade level at your school has created a pacing guide they'd be willing to share with you. Sometimes textbooks will publish a pacing guide either in the teacher's manual or through some portal on their website (often there are ones for approximately 180 school days and for schools that go year round). With that said, sometimes I've definitely had to modify the guides based on my students' skillset and prior knowledge. Meaning, I don't move on to the next topic unless I feel like the majority of my students have a strong foundation and feel confident on a particular unit. I'm not sure if that fully answered your question, but feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or have ones specific to your situation and grade level, subject, etc. Thanks again for watching and commenting! I appreciate it. 💗
