    I just had my one and only Microtech, a combat troodon from 2017, serviced for the first time. They even re-etched the scratched logo using their new laser machines. They sent it back in new original packaging, fully oiled, with a microtech sticker. It was kind of like getting a new knife. Felt fantastic. Best twenty bucks ever spent. Three week turnaround.

      I personally haven't had to send mine in to MT but I know SEVERAL ppl that have over a span of years and none are LEO\MILITARY and everyone has praised them for their warranty department AND customer service. You may get one new with defects but this is literally the first complaints I have heard. Just saying this so people don't mistake isolated incidents ( that are bound to happen to every business, it's unavoidable) and think that a company that has as a whole worked their collective asses off to get to where they are . BTW I have no stake in this at all from anyone in any form . This is just my observations over a decade hence my purchase . I ONLY carry quality tools . I've been a benchmade carrier for years and have several yet I will certainly purchase more MT'S in the future .

    The reason for not using USPS isn't tracking information, my dude. It's actually related to United States Code Title 15 Chapter 29, often called the Federal Switchblade Act. It's a weird law about transporting them across state lines being illegal situationally even if they're legal in both the states. And the USPS is bound by “injurious and non-mailable” laws, which include switchblades. If you need to mail one, best to go with UPS and FedEx, otherwise it's against federal law.

    I’ve actually been through this process. It was brand new at the time, UTX-70 CA, 2019 run CTS-XH. It stopped working (something internally broken) after a couple of weeks of edc and frequent fidgeting but ZERO abuse.
    I called customer service they pre aproved my claim and started up part of the ticket over the phone but I still filled my ticket out online. They are great people over the phone! The turn around was in the neighborhood of three weeks. It was returned with a brief letter in an unmarked Microtech box with a cool oval patch that has a sword on it.
    I can’t say that I wasn’t pissed when the first knife that I’ve ever paid over the retail for (yes on eBay about $25 over bhq retail as I’d been looking for one for months before I found this one) broke effective immediately! PISSED OFF! But now I am kind of happy that it has been opened up at the shop and fully gone through before it was sent back to me. I have not had the slightest reason to doubt it up to this point and I do carry and use it on occasion.
    It’s a lovely little knife! I’m very fond of it.

      Same exact thing happened to me with my first ultratech. Broke literally with 3 weeks of me owning it with the same amount of use as yours. Glad that the warranty process is quick. I also ran my ultratech's blade into a staple while doing a paper cut test, so I'm also glad that they will sharpen it complementary.

    This question is sort of off topic, but you do talk about shipping a couple times. I hope someone will answer.
    I’m new to knives and collecting. I’ve seen a couple automatic knives that I’d love to have one day (when I can afford it), and I do live in a state where it’s legal to own them. Stores in my area are very limited in what they offer, so I’ll probably want to buy from an online store. BUT when I poke around on their websites, they all seem to have “terms and conditions” that include legal language that APPEARS to say they’re not going to ship an automatic knife to you unless you’re a dealer or somehow involved in the military (maybe also police). It looks like you have to “agree” to those terms before they’ll make the sale. Maybe I’m misunderstanding, though-many of these sites have UA-cam channels where there are videos showing these knives and there’s no mention whatsoever that you can only buy them if you’re one of the above.
    So here’s the obvious question: Can I, an ordinary civilian who has no relationship with the military or police and who is not a dealer, buy an automatic knife online and have it shipped to my home in a state where it’s legal to own such a knife?
    I’ve googled and found sites that supposedly answer the question but I think they’re more confusing than the statute itself, though I gather from one such site that it MIGHT make a difference if the knife is shipped through a private carrier like UPS or FedEx rather than the USPS. I even emailed one store and the reply was, basically, “we’re not lawyers, figure it out for yourself.”
    I’d like one day to add an automatic to my collection but I won’t knowingly break the law. Am I misunderstanding? Is there a workaround?
    Thanks in advance for a HELPFUL response. (Even if this is a dumb question please be kind-everybody was starting out once.)

      Yes automatic knives can ship from any US dealert o any adress in the US there are specific laws about the transportation of automatic knives not beign allowed to cross boarders its all BS these dealers have that atuff on there to protect them legally, but it mostly attes they are not responsible for any laws reguarding the ownership of suck items you the buyer is responsible to know your local laws...Its fine to order and have them shipped, once you gte themk its uop to you to abide by any local laws...places like bladehq has a wide variety of autos as well as many other dealers online that are reputable, for cheapere automatics id suggest their sister site grindworx, all that said some knife companies wont ship a knife directly to a person but instewad an authorized dealer of autos or military or police, but thats only if your getting one direct from the maker or having it sent in for repair, thats a different issue...

    Excellent information. A few days ago I received my first Microtech, a new Combat Troodon 142-12OD, via Fedex from SMKW. Prior to purchasing, I did a lot of research and new that I might need to do a cleaning and was aware of Microtech's suggested way of cleaning and even looked specifically at Microtech's videos for their tips. But damn, the amount of force required to fire and retract the thumb slide is stupidly ridiculous. I wish my pistol trigger scales were strong enough to register the amount of force need to activate my MT Troodon thumb slide. I have cleaned the knife per MT instructions on their website. I have worn my two thumbs into a tinder state over the last few days trying to "break in" the MT thumb slide. I am now wearing thick leather work gloves while trying to break in the thumb slide, but my two thumbs remain very tinder. Operating the thumb slide has not gotten easier by even a gnat hair smidgen. Since you seem to have owned many Microtechs, I wonder if you have any advice for me before I send this Troodon to Microtech for service? And thanks for the video and it's content. Look forward to seeing your update in six weeks or so.

      What you want to do is write your senator and start getting all knives legalized in your state. If you want to legally own one go to the state where they’re legal, purchase one in store. What you do with it after that is up to you. I’ll be looking over there 👀 👉

    • @IncredulousIndividual
      @IncredulousIndividual 3 роки тому

      Realistically the only way you could do that is have it either shipped to a friend/family member out of state then either you pick it up from them or they turn around and ship it to you... that’s how I’ve got them in California.

    • @undergroundexplorer8378
      @undergroundexplorer8378 3 роки тому +3

      There are plenty of sites that will ship autos to any state regardless of legality. That said, I recommend following your state and local laws to the best of your ability. It’s up to you what you think is worth risking.
      Despite what some say, I see knife laws in the US heading in the right direction. That’s thanks in part to the efforts of organizations like Knife Rights and American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI). They’ve gotten the switchblade laws repealed in states like New Hampshire, Alaska, Colorado, Tennessee, Texas, Maine, Missouri, Kansas, etc. over the past decade and they even got the Federal Switchblade Act amended in 2009 to have assisted openers exempted from the federal restrictions on import and interstate commerce. They even got New York to repeal their gravity knife law last year after nearly a decade of litigation and legislative efforts. I think these are organizations US knife owners need to continue to support.

    you always do these send it back to the company but this one seems like you'd be better off not are there any small private people that do this kind of thing why not learn how to fix it yourself if all they are going to do is remove their own logos which anyone could do and charge you for it seems like a waste of money to me

    • @krazykat64
      @krazykat64 3 роки тому +4

      If you disassemble it yourself it voids the lifetime warranty, and there’s really no parts inside you can service or replace yourself anyway. And they only remove the logos if they determine that the knife you sent in is a counterfeit.
