I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my login password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Johnathan Ronnie thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Great explanation! When I was a much younger man I was fascinated by dual-action OTF knives. I'd only ever seen them in movies and they seemed almost magical. I couldn't comprehend how a switchblade/automatic knife could store the energy to both deploy and retract the blade without those forces fighting one another. When I was in Italy in the early 1990s I purchased a cheap one from a knife shop and immediately took it apart. It worked on the same principal as the MUCH more expensive Microtechs. The key is that, unlike a traditional out-the-side automatic or single-action OTF, a dual-action OTF isn't storing energy in a spring when the knife is retracted OR when it's deployed. You are loading the spring as you push the thumb switch which is why it takes a bit of actual effort to activate a dual-action OTF. Almost everyone I hand my Microtech to struggles to actuate it until I explain that you have to use some muscle. I would go so far as to argue that dual-action OTF knives shouldn't be classified as switchblades. Most switchblade laws state that the blade must be under spring tension when stored. That is NOT the case with dual-action OTF knives. They're much more like assisted-openers. But most states are finally beginning to repeal the silly, reactionary anti-switchblade laws of the 1950s.
This was great! I’ve been wondering what’s inside. OTF knives have a cool effect but that’s where it ends. They’re terrible EDC’s. You can’t even eat a piece of fruit with them -but- for a fishing knife they’re perfect!
I used to own a NATO OTF knives. It wasn't nearly as nice as the one you have, but it was a great conversation piece. I find them extremely fascinating for some reason. Great video. Thanks for the tutorial
I watched two other videos like this and it's EXACTLY what you said. They just explained how the knife is assembled and disassembled, but did not really articulate what is really going on inside for this mechanism to work. The rubber band analogy nailed it. Thanks!
From me, you got 1 view, 1 like; you deserved it for being willing to take it apart to show me. I have been very curious but also not willing. What an eloquent combination of thoughtful design and precision machining..
found this gem of a video while researching for my own AC knife design! have you come up with anything to get around the problem of the trigger string only being able to pull and not not being able to compress the switch?
Some great explanation... I wasn't really sure how OTF works I watched bench of videos but I only understood it from this video Thx so much! Great video 🙏👍👌
I’ve been collecting knives for years and always wondered how otfs work and I’ve watched videos and looked at my own and it never clicked until watching this video
Thanks a million, if they would have answered your warranty, you might not have taken this apart and showed us all it’s really pretty simple and microtech otf knives are WAY over priced. Thanks again
if you would watch the 6 part series on how microtechs are made you would understand why they are priced they way they are. 100% usa made, and and a ton of work goes into every knife they make. hand finished and inspected with a fine tooth comb. sure, being manmade eventually something will fail. but they make amazing knives!
Overpriced you say... I think not, considering that each is hand made. Try machining all those bits and pieces to fit precisely with no jamming and still slide freely as it should. Each piece has to fit perfectly to function properly and last a long time. I've had to service a Chinese knockoff for a guy I know a few times already. One of the main problems... The track the blade runs in gets jammed up with gunk from his pockets... I know that knifes internals better than the owner does...
@@Da_Thing_Should_Not_Be there's a ton of money invested in the CNC machines that produce the parts they have to recover, there's time in setting up the raw materials in the jigs and money in the finishing process coating the pieces, I know all that has to be profitable but as far as the manpower that goes into assembling those pieces from parts bins, I doubt it takes more than a minute to assemble. All the parts have individual finishes, there is no "hand fitting " like an old custom 1911 a gunsmith built. I cant fault anyone too much for buying what they like though, I've bought several Randall knives in my time lol.
Awesome video, thank you very much. Not only have I been curious about how these work, I've always been paranoid of that blade shooting out the front in a malfunction. It really eases my mind to know how the device works and seeing how that stop pin prevents anything ridiculous and dangerous from happening. I really appreciate you!
Very informative video.I’m going to try to make one of these with a longer tang and handle but same length blade. You know they say that these type of knives are novelty knife and not really used for self-defense or anything else really. The theory behind the longer handle and tang is that it will be stronger and harder to break.
you can open any item, and not void your warranty, even ones that have "warranty void if opened" stickers. your warranty is only void if you do something that causes damage to the item. Check out The Magnuson moss Warranty Act, for more information.
Also, I just got a new microtech and on the box it says explicitly that opening the knife does not void the warranty unless the function of the knife is altered. I have no experience with their warranty dept. however
Microtech knives are made at 221 old Henderson Rd, Fletcher NC l.. that's a 58 minute drive from me..I live in Greer, thirty minutes from table rock.. beautiful country out here
bought a comb one and took it apart to have a look at the mechanism and couldn't get it back together after the spring pinged off, thanks for the video
Kevin, it appears their service may not be top notch due to him having torn this one apart since he was having warrenty issues saying he could not get a reply from them. I think you are right though about them having a quality built knife by the looks of the insides of one of these.
Nice explanation, even the directions say sharpening by "anyone other than a micro tech armorer" voids the warranty? Right, straight to the the old Buck hard Arkansas
How could you make the button easier to push? I originally was thinking of polishing some internals but wondered if you had any opinions? Thank you for the video!
Does opening a Microtech void the warranty? "We understand that some customers may prefer to maintain their own knives. Sharpening your knife does not automatically void the warranty. The warranty will remain in effect so long as the blade is not improperly sharpened and the handle is not damaged or stripped due to disassembly, determined at our discretion. Sep 7, 2020" MICROTECH So yes you can take it apart as long as you're not an idiot!
I noticed the inside of the frame and metal sliding parts had no lubricant on any parts. Is that by design because if it is, it doesn’t make sense to me.
Also, again, what causes the blade to stop it's outward motion if it contacts an obstruction? I want an OTF that I could theoretically put right up against something and then deploy straight into it, any ideas?
The blade has to make it all the way to the stopping block. The spring is only so strong. If the forward motion of the blade encounters more resistance than the spring can overcome it will stop it from locking in place. Basically it comes down to the strength of the spring. It is not capable of flinging the blade forward with enough force to penetrate objects. Just enough strength to move the blade itself. This is purposely done for obvious reasons. Which is why it is stuoid that they are illegal in many places
The button on mine has gone lose and it don't fire or close now,I'm sure something has broken inside ,I've pulled the blade out and that dont fix it, any ideas whats broke please
Same thing happened to mine and its was the spring that broke. There should be a little loop on each end of the spring, but one snapped off. So I bent the last coil out to act as a loop and it worked again.
If you have a very small hand you will like the knife. It's lightweight and makes for a nice letter opener. That is, if you want to spend over $240. They wouldn't even listen to me when I attempted to return it. Very rude service/sales department.
I worked hard on my blue collar job…and saved up and bought 3 Micro tech Ultratech knifes…I’m sorry??? you said there is no warranty department??? Is this prehapes because you broke the consumer/buyer warranty code???? maybe trying to fix a minor issue but your so cheap on postage you think you have become a Microtech technician over night? Congratulations to you and your brand new OTF company SINCE you did all the LEGWORK and put up all the cash 😂
There's two sides to every story. I have ownder their knives for years and have always had top notch experiences with microtech so im sure there's more to it. I mean he said he couldn't reach them which is impossible if you just go to their site and click contact us. Lol it's as easy as opening a support ticket and then telling them what the issue is. And everytime I've contacted them for servicing in sharpening and cleanings ( never had one break or not work) they typically get back to me within 12hrs at the latest but it's more like an hour or two even at night. So he's not trying or he's not going about it correctly.
Great explanation, very educational. What an amazing piece of engineering.
I watched several videos before finding yours, and you explained it most clearly. Thanks!
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account..?

@Johnathan Ronnie thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out atm.

@Johnathan Ronnie it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you really help me out!
@Kyson Bruce Glad I could help :D

Great video. Thanks for the tutorial
Just bought a Glykon and I LOVE IT, but I was wondering how tf it works! Thanks for the well layed out explanation!
Thanks. This concept had me perplexed for years. Now I see! It flings the blade.
I watched two other videos like this and it's EXACTLY what you said. They just explained how the knife is assembled and disassembled, but did not really articulate what is really going on inside for this mechanism to work. The rubber band analogy nailed it. Thanks!

Best explanation I've seen about micro tech knives
Excellent... best video on the subject. Appreciate it.
Best explained video I’ve watched!
Working on a design of a hidden blade like in assassin's creed series. Your explanation was truly the best I've found so far!
found this gem of a video while researching for my own AC knife design! have you come up with anything to get around the problem of the trigger string only being able to pull and not not being able to compress the switch?
He also sells it if you didn't want to make your own
Some great explanation... I wasn't really sure how OTF works I watched bench of videos but I only understood it from this video
Thx so much! Great video 🙏👍👌
I like the fact you show the internals & how it works but don't think I'll try disassembling any time soon. 🤙🏼
best video with descriptive explanation
I’ve been collecting knives for years and always wondered how otfs work and I’ve watched videos and looked at my own and it never clicked until watching this video
Ohhhh the rubber band explanation actually was what got me to understand 😁👍.
Thanks dude!!!
Thanks for such a thorough description
Well done mate well explained !!!
The rubber band analogy explains it well

You should have gotten WAY MORE VIEWS!!
Great vid!
What broke? Thanks for the vid very thorough.
Microtech makes the best otf knives and there customer service is top notch.
Kevin, it appears their service may not be top notch due to him having torn this one apart since he was having warrenty issues saying he could not get a reply from them. I think you are right though about them having a quality built knife by the looks of the insides of one of these.

Right, straight to the the old Buck hard Arkansas
Nice but a safety lock for the slide switch is a must for these knives
Great video! Does microtech use the same mechanism as other otf brands like guardian tactical or Benchmade?
How could you make the button easier to push? I originally was thinking of polishing some internals but wondered if you had any opinions? Thank you for the video!
Totally awesome thanks so much
Took the magic out of the knife a bit. I wonder if it can be tuned at all. My Ultratech is easily deployed, but a real bear to retract.
Does opening a Microtech void the warranty?

So yes you can take it apart as long as you're not an idiot!
Also! …what screw bit are you using?? Do they sell a bit to take them off?
Can we put a stronger spring to make it come out faster and harder to go into stuff when pressed and opened like the age ole question
So those classic movies showing a push button stiletto popping open popping closed . . . how do they work?
the guy who designed this was like "hold my beer and give me a pencil"
What type of tool did you use to take screws out?
I noticed the inside of the frame and metal sliding parts had no lubricant on any parts. Is that by design because if it is, it doesn’t make sense to me.
I could never trust myself enough to dismantle a knife that is over 500 dollars.
This one is around 300.00
Correct! Only a AVERAGE DAY COMMON IDIOT high on meth woukd try accomplish this task 🎉😂🎉
It’s a lot less complicated than a pistol trigger mechanism. If you’re mechanically inclined you can learn how to do it.
It’s not even that expensive in terms of pocket knives.
Crazy bro went to Thailand in 2017 an brought one for 30bucks an sent it home that same day in a pair of dirty socks lol
NOW I get it, thank you!
Thank you dude
Do these otf companies ,sell replacement springs n such..mechanical stuff wears out on anything ...
Skinny little spring but must be hella strong and rigid to make that fly with the amount of force it does.
please do one of these on the bench made infidel because I can't get mine figured out
thanks bubbles
Nice sir
Good one.
Great Video!
But minor sound level problems at around 5 minutes.

Im able to pull the blade slightly out of the handle when it is in the deployed position. Is that a normal occurence?
did u ever find out?
@@zioqqr4262 normal
Good video thanks!
If you keep the stop pin out and rebuild the knife all the way, when you open it will it shoot the blade out like in the punisher?
It will come out the front, but not with any real force. It kinda just tosses it out pretty slowly.
Respect
I'm surprised the locking mechanism is just a tiny bit of steel.. I've seen videos of ppl hammering these through wood. x.x
EXCELLENT INFO. WELL DONE.
SUBSCRIBED WILL RECOMMEND
So in theory, you could remove the springs and make a gravity knife
The button on mine has gone lose and it don't fire or close now,I'm sure something has broken inside ,I've pulled the blade out and that dont fix it, any ideas whats broke please
Same thing happened to mine and its was the spring that broke. There should be a little loop on each end of the spring, but one snapped off. So I bent the last coil out to act as a loop and it worked again.
which microtech otf is it? Is it a UTX-70?
Добрый день! Сколько стоит сейчас такой нож в США?
I definitely don't speak Russian(?) but whatever you say bro
You'd probably have to most defiantly be John Wick for them to notice you. I wonder if Benchmade is better at parts and support?
Yeah, that was a pretty good video on that subject. I never seen a microtech in-depth dive like that microtech should have that.
genius

cool
Name please
Its so confusing haha. I need to find a plexiglass see thru otf knife.
When you don't know what you're doing but get free knives and wanna look cool
lol totally
I got u b
Great explanation. Every other video just shows how it locks in and out. They never explain how the blade shoots in and out.
Hogue does it better. BM Infidel is hands down the best for blade lock strength.
how does it work?
unable to get any customer support for a 500$ knife...not a good look microtech...smh
There's two sides to every story. I have ownder their knives for years and have always had top notch experiences with microtech so im sure there's more to it.
