When I started sharing my HIV journey online I knew I would encounter stigma.
I knew people would make judgments about me and I didn't come to the decision lightly, as I’ve a family to consider.
But there was something in me that felt compelled to share in the hope of showing others who maybe struggling with their own diagnosis that you can thrive with HIV.
HIV is an easily manageable condition thanks to modern medicine, but the stigma is a completely different beast to manage.
I've experienced stigma myself over the past six months, l've been judged many times for the virus that's now setup camp within my body.
I'm a fairly strong person, but every now and then people's words and judgmental attitudes gets to me.
The other day someone felt the need to express their hatred by telling me (I'm disgusting) it affected the rest of my day, I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Living with HIV has exposed me to how cruel society can be, but it's also connected me to some truly wonderful people and experiences.
There's an old saying that you may of heard. Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.
I wish this was true, but it isn't. Words do have a massive effect on people's lives, and living with HIV has shown me personally how hurtful words can be.
HIV is no longer a deadly disease, but the stigma is devastating lives, and is more deadly than the virus itself.

I like that statement you put at the end of the video about being kind to others. You are right no one knows the battles people are dealing with. I also wanted to say as hurtful the comments people say or write to you, remember the enemy "the deceiver" will use people to attack you spiritually so be strong and keep doing God's will and encourage others

@@Peter.c106 I wondered if you caught HIV as a top (active partner) or bottom (passive partner). Some people say it’s very hard to catch as a top and most bisexual guys are tops. Sorry if too personal a question!
