This channel is an attempt to chronicle my life and adventures since arriving in the Republic of the Philippines on November 26, 2013. This is my first time taking video and editing, so please bear with the process. Hopefully, I will get better over time!! I hope you enjoy the videos and get something out of them. Al is a great example for all foreigners and locals alike to live with sustainability he certainly is a very smart man. For those foreigners and filipinos who are or is already on retirement complaining how expensive it is to live in PI you guys better reassess your own valuation and comfort you should always have a back up plan. Money doesn't grow in a tree but money can come from a tree.

Funny, that's my uncle. He's certainly a one of a kind. Used to visit his cabin in Alaska when I was a kid.

Yeah, that's my mom's brother. I have way too many great stories about him. He had a cabin near May Creek Alaska and I would go visit him during the summer and pan for gold and copper, hunt for food and tool around in his Super Cub plane.
Al is a man's man. He is so cool.
Al is a real gem, a true diamond in the rough. I like to collect characters like him and yourself, stay close to people like that and often amazed by what I learn!

Ron Aaserude YEAH! His works and actions are preventing the longer occurence of Global Warming and Climate Change by planting fruit trees that absorbs CO2 and gives backs oxygen too. These fruit tress also produce foods to feed the hungry world. It's like killing two birds with a single stone that's "AMAZING". People like us living in the modern world produces more CO2 from running our cars and SUV'S.
Really really love this place practical simple living and a paradise hopefully me and Carl will have that kind of place and home in future...wish she plant some colorful flowers that sorrounding....enjoying following him introducing different fruits..This called life ....enjoy guys
Simple living is the best choice. Doing as much as you can with your own hands. And this nipa house is great.
Jean Hougron Wrong ! Nipa Hut are made everything from bamboo product no metal or concrete period. They are practically native Filipino's home.

Al is my hero. Awesome video, Ned and Michell. I dream to have a place like that (with screens) when I retire overseas in order to stay busy with a good woman and keep out of trouble.
Yeah, I learned that I need screens as well. We didn't have them down in Dauin and the bugs in the house were pretty frikken bad.

i guess you have already seen what lanzones looks like by now, it is a very popular fruit during the rainy season from august until november, if my memory serves me right, but it's pretty expensive fruit and you can really make a lot of money growing it.
I like the house, but my wife says no. It’s very comfortable all open and big like that. I don’t think most people would think of that design. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, Al is a very nice guy and those trees produce the most expensive fruit in the world. They will not start producing until next year but it is a legacy that he will eventually be able to leave to his family.

Thanks to all your videos. They're very informative. It give's me a lot of ideas of what to do. I'm originally from Valencia, but been living in Canada for 27 years now. I'm having second thoughts now of not selling my land there. Thanks again.

That was assume, how many sq meters was his place ? Did he say the neighbor pays 30,000 Pesos a year property taxes ? His house is so nice, love the high ceilings and wide open rooms.

Nicely set up Homestead.Really enjoyed this as I am making the move from US to Philippines myself in coming months,life is far to complicated in the states these days. John West Actually, I don't think he spent a whole lot of money on his place. I didn't ask, but his the price of land in his area isn't super high (especially since he bought it over five years ago), and his house is of a simple, but very sturdy, design.
I don't drink beer, but something about Al makes me want to crack a brew with him. Pretty cool guy in my opinion.

I see a guy like Al and I realize how little i have used my brain to absorb or apply any information during my lifetime and im over 1/2 his age so Im not on a good pace to catch up any time soon. :)

I am surprised to read about the lansones fruit . I buy them at markets, when itys the lansones season ( oktober/november) all over the place for between 40 and 60 pesos a kilo. Everybody knows that ..
Also try atis, sineguelas, pico, etc.

Thanks! Al is quite the character and definitely a self-made man. The taxes were in USD, yes. When we were in Dauin, we were in a nipa/wood native house. It was nice and cool, but living without any types of screens were kind of a bummer.
Philippine Dreams Al didn't mention anything about mosquitos, with no screens. Maybe a mosquito net over the bed would help.

i think those trees are what we call lychee with a brown soft outer skin and a white very sweet white flesh and stone inside. Native of Thailand.
I think so - all I know is that Al will be making bank once they start fruiting next year. Gotta stay on his good side.....

How many Hectar's is the farm, I own a small call center in Makati, my honey loves farming and would love to own a place like this. For me cooler air is critical so I would want something in the coolest part of PH. How much was his farm. And is that realistic that he will make 2 million or so peso a year from 100 trees? A 500 tree farm would give you a nice 200 to 300k dollar income per year. Then whats the cost to turn raw land into a producer in 6 years vs. just buying a producing farm.

I think it can be spelled a few ways. Longkong actually seems used more. Regardless, at 450-600 pesos a kilo, it's a durn expensive fruit! I would feel guilty eating it. :)
